Redragon K552-KRS: software installation, Bluetooth, 2.4 GHz, and configuration in Windows 11/10

Redragon K552-KRS is a compact 87-key TKL mechanical keyboard with three connection modes: USB-C, 2.4 GHz, and Bluetooth. A separate Redragon system driver is not required for normal operation: Windows automatically uses standard HID drivers.

Redragon Software is required for additional functions: changing supported lighting settings, remapping keys, and configuring macros.

Part 1. Installing and connecting Redragon K552-KRS

Is a separate driver required?

No. A separate Redragon system driver is not required for normal text input.

1. Connect the keyboard to the computer via USB-C.
2. Wait a few seconds.
3. Windows will automatically detect the HID keyboard.
4. Open any text editor.
5. Check letters, numbers, Space, Enter, and Backspace.

If the keyboard types normally, the standard Windows driver is already installed.

There is no need to look for a separate universal “K552-KRS driver” or use third-party automatic driver installation programs.

Which software to install

For K552-KRS, the official Redragon website provides the installer:

A shorter name is used on a separate download page:

Testing showed that both files are completely identical: their size, SHA-256 hash, and byte-for-byte contents match.

There is no need to install both files.

Verified installer

For the verified official package:

If Windows displays signer information, the company name may differ from the Redragon brand name. This is normal for this official file.

Connection modes

Connecting via USB-C

1. Switch the keyboard to wired mode.
2. Connect the USB-C cable.
3. Connect the other end directly to the computer.
4. Wait for Windows to detect the device.
5. Check normal text input.

Wired mode is recommended for the initial Software installation and for troubleshooting.

Connecting via 2.4 GHz

1. Switch the keyboard to 2.4 GHz mode.
2. Connect the included USB receiver to the computer.
3. Wait a few seconds.
4. Check text input.

If the keyboard and receiver are already paired, the connection is usually established automatically.

If 2.4 GHz does not work

1. Fully charge the keyboard.
2. Disconnect and reconnect the included receiver.
3. Use a USB port directly on the computer.
4. Do not use a USB hub during diagnostics.
5. Try another USB port.
6. Turn 2.4 GHz mode off and on again.
7. Check the keyboard via USB-C.
8. Check Bluetooth.

Bluetooth and multiple devices

K552-KRS supports Bluetooth and can use multiple saved wireless connections. Before the first connection, switch the keyboard to Bluetooth mode and activate the required Bluetooth channel according to the markings on the keys of your specific keyboard.

Then in Windows:

1. Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices.
2. Turn on Bluetooth.
3. Click Add device.
4. Select Bluetooth.
5. Select the keyboard from the list of detected devices.
6. Complete pairing.

Bluetooth does not connect

1. Check the keyboard battery level.
2. Make sure Bluetooth mode is selected.
3. Try another saved Bluetooth channel.
4. Remove the previous keyboard entry from Windows.
5. Put the selected channel into pairing mode again.
6. Add the keyboard again.

Bluetooth connects to an old device

If the selected Bluetooth channel was previously used with another computer, phone, or tablet, the keyboard may try to restore the previous connection.

1. Turn off Bluetooth on the old device.
2. Select another Bluetooth channel or clear the old pairing.
3. Remove the previous K552-KRS entry from Windows.
4. Perform pairing again.

Bluetooth works, but Software displays Device not detected

If the keyboard types normally via Bluetooth but Redragon Software does not detect it, change the connection mode first.

1. Close Redragon Software.
2. Switch to USB-C or 2.4 GHz.
3. Wait for Windows to detect the device.
4. Check normal input.
5. Start Redragon Software again.

Installing the software in Windows 11

1. Connect K552-KRS via USB-C or 2.4 GHz.
2. Check normal keyboard operation.
3. Download the official Software.
4. Close Redragon programs for other devices.
5. Run the installer EXE.
6. Complete the installation.
7. Keep the keyboard connected.
8. Start Redragon Software.

Installing the software in Windows 10

1. Connect the keyboard via USB-C or 2.4 GHz.
2. Wait for Windows to automatically install the HID device.
3. Check text input.
4. Run the official installer.
5. Complete the installation.
6. Start Software while the keyboard is connected.

The software does not detect K552-KRS

1. If Bluetooth is being used, switch to USB-C or 2.4 GHz.
2. Close the software.
3. Connect the keyboard directly to the computer.
4. Try another USB port.
5. Do not use a USB hub.
6. Make sure that Software specifically for K552-KRS is installed.
7. Close Redragon programs for other keyboards and mice.
8. Start Software again.

Reinstalling the software in Windows 11

1. Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
2. Find the Redragon program.
3. Click the three-dot button.
4. Select Uninstall.
5. Restart the computer.
6. Connect K552-KRS via USB-C.
7. Install the official Beta 1.0.4.6 package again.

Reinstalling the software in Windows 10

1. Open Settings → Apps → Apps & features.
2. Find Redragon Software.
3. Click Uninstall.
4. Restart the computer.
5. Connect the keyboard via USB-C.
6. Install the official package again.

Part 2. Configuring and troubleshooting Redragon K552-KRS

K552-KRS backlighting

K552-KRS has multicolor Rainbow backlighting with several built-in effects. The official specification lists 19 modes and adjustable speed and brightness.

It is important to distinguish Rainbow backlighting from full per-key RGB configuration. For this model, you should not expect an arbitrary individual color for each key unless such a mode is confirmed by the software or documentation for your specific keyboard.

Configuring the backlight through Software

1. Connect the keyboard via USB-C or 2.4 GHz.
2. Start Redragon Software.
3. Open the lighting section.
4. Select an available effect.
5. If the corresponding settings are available, change the brightness and speed.
6. Apply the changes.

The backlight does not change

1. Make sure the software detects K552-KRS.
2. Do not use Bluetooth when troubleshooting Software.
3. Switch to USB-C.
4. Change only one setting.
5. Apply the change.
6. Close and restart the software.

Hardware lighting key combinations

K552-KRS allows several functions to be controlled directly from the keyboard. However, markings and key combinations may differ between different K552 models.

For hardware switching of lighting modes, speed, and brightness, refer to the secondary markings printed on the keys of your specific K552-KRS.

Configuring macros and keys

If the corresponding function is available in the installed version of Software:

1. Connect K552-KRS via USB-C or 2.4 GHz.
2. Start the software.
3. Open the key assignment or macro section.
4. Create a short test macro.
5. Record several keystrokes.
6. If necessary, configure the available delays.
7. Assign the action to a supported key.
8. Apply the changes.
9. Check the result in a safe application.

A key performs the wrong action after configuration

1. Connect the keyboard via USB-C.
2. Start Redragon Software.
3. Check recently changed assignments.
4. Delete the problematic macro.
5. Restore the key’s default action.
6. Apply the changes.
7. Close the software and check the keyboard again.

The keyboard flashes and does not connect

If K552-KRS starts flashing continuously and at the same time stops working properly over a wireless connection:

1. Fully charge the keyboard.
2. Turn it off and on again.
3. Connect it via USB-C.
4. Check operation without Redragon Software.
5. Disconnect the included 2.4 GHz receiver and reconnect it.
6. Remove the old Bluetooth pairing and create a new one.
7. Test the keyboard on another computer.

Individual user reports describe cases where K552-KRS starts flashing white and stops connecting, but there is not enough data to consider this a common model-wide defect.

The keyboard turns off the backlight by itself

In wireless mode, automatically reducing backlight activity or entering sleep mode may be used to save battery power.

If the device wakes immediately after a key is pressed and continues working, first rule out normal power-saving behavior rather than a HID driver malfunction.

The keyboard discharges quickly

1. Fully charge the keyboard.
2. Reduce the backlight brightness.
3. Turn off the backlight for testing.
4. Use only one wireless mode.
5. Compare battery life with and without backlighting.
6. Try another known-good USB-C cable.

One key misses or duplicates keystrokes

K552-KRS supports hot-swap for compatible 3-pin mechanical switches. Therefore, after ruling out a software-related cause, you can check the switch.

First:

1. Close Redragon Software.
2. Test the key in a regular text editor.
3. Test the keyboard on another computer.
4. If key assignments or macros were changed, restore the default settings.
5. Only then check the mechanical switch.

How to check a switch using hot-swap

1. Turn off the keyboard.
2. Disconnect the USB-C cable.
3. Remove the keycap from the problematic key.
4. Carefully remove the switch using a suitable tool.
5. Inspect the three switch contacts.
6. If a contact is bent, do not force the switch into place.
7. Swap the switch with a known-good compatible 3-pin switch.
8. Turn on the keyboard and test both positions.

If the problem moves with the switch, the switch is likely faulty.

If the problem remains in the same position, there may be a problem with the hot-swap socket or circuit board.

How to check the keyboard in Windows 11

1. Right-click the Start button.
2. Select Device Manager.
3. Check the Keyboards section.
4. Check Human Interface Devices.
5. If you have Bluetooth problems, also open the Bluetooth section.

K552-KRS may appear as a standard HID keyboard. The absence of the Redragon name in Device Manager does not by itself indicate an error.

How to check the keyboard in Windows 10

1. Right-click the Start button.
2. Open Device Manager.
3. Check the Keyboards and Human Interface Devices sections.
4. For Bluetooth, also check the Bluetooth section.

A yellow icon appeared in Device Manager

If you have been able to determine exactly that the device with the error is related to K552-KRS:

1. Disconnect the keyboard.
2. Open Device Manager.
3. Find the related entry with the warning icon.
4. Right-click it.
5. Select Uninstall device.
6. Restart the computer.
7. Connect K552-KRS via USB-C.
8. Wait for Windows to automatically install the device again.

Do not install Software or firmware from another K552

The K552 series includes many keyboards with different hardware. For example, K552-KRS is a tri-mode mechanical model, while other K552 models may be wired-only or use completely different electronics.

If K552-KRS does not work at all

1. Switch to wired mode.
2. Connect the USB-C cable.
3. Try another USB port.
4. Try another known-good data-capable cable.
5. Allow the keyboard to charge.
6. Restart the computer.
7. Close Redragon Software.
8. Test the keyboard on another computer.

If the keyboard works via USB-C, troubleshoot 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth separately.

If K552-KRS is not detected via USB-C even on another computer, reinstalling Redragon Software usually does not resolve this type of hardware problem.

Can K552-KRS be used without Redragon Software?

Yes. Redragon Software is not required for normal text input.

K552-KRS can work via USB-C, 2.4 GHz, and Bluetooth using standard operating system features. Redragon Software is mainly required for supported additional lighting settings, key remapping, and macros.
