Why a Xerox Printer or MFP Does Not Work on an ARM Laptop with Windows 11 and How to Fix It

Last Updated on 30.06.2026 by DriverNew

Some modern Windows 11 laptops do not use a standard Intel or AMD processor, but an ARM processor instead. For example, these may include certain Microsoft Surface, Samsung Galaxy Book, ASUS, Lenovo, HP, and other Snapdragon-based devices.

On such a laptop, a regular Xerox driver for Windows 11 x64 may not install or may work incorrectly. This problem is especially common when a Xerox printer or MFP is connected via USB cable.

The good news is that Xerox has released special drivers for Windows 11 ARM64. Therefore, in many cases, the problem can be solved by installing Xerox Global Print Driver ARM64.

Why the Problem Occurs

Windows 11 on an ARM laptop is different from Windows 11 on a regular computer with an Intel or AMD processor. A regular Windows x64 driver is not always suitable for Windows 11 ARM64.

If the manufacturer’s website lists Windows 11 64-bit, this does not always mean Windows 11 ARM support. An ARM laptop needs a driver that supports the ARM64 architecture.

For Xerox printers and MFPs, the main working options are:

  • installing Xerox Global Print Driver ARM64 for a USB connection;
  • installing Xerox Global Print Driver ARM64 for a network connection;
  • adding the printer through the built-in Microsoft IPP Class Driver;
  • using Xerox Print and Scan Experience for compatible devices;
  • scanning to email, to a network folder, or through the MFP’s own functions.

How to Tell That the Problem Is Related to Windows 11 ARM

The problem may be related to Windows 11 ARM if you see one or more of the following signs:

  • the regular Xerox driver for Windows 11 x64 does not install;
  • the driver installer closes with an error;
  • Windows reports that the driver is incompatible;
  • the printer is connected via USB but is not detected as a printer;
  • the printer appears in Windows but does not print;
  • printing works only with basic settings;
  • additional Xerox settings do not appear;
  • scanning on the MFP does not work.

Before You Start, Check the System Type

First, make sure that you really have Windows 11 ARM.

  1. Click the Start button.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Go to System.
  4. Open About.
  5. Find the System type line.

If this line shows ARM64, you have Windows 11 on an ARM processor. In this case, a regular x64 driver may not work.

If this line shows x64, the problem is not related to ARM. In that case, check the usual causes: cable, USB port, network, printer IP address, print queue, and whether the correct driver is selected.

Important: You Do Not Need to Try All Methods in a Row

Different solutions are listed below. You do not have to perform all of them.

If the printer is connected via USB, start with Method 1. If the Xerox device is connected to a network or Wi-Fi, use Method 2. If the Xerox driver did not work or you only need basic printing, try Method 3. If the problem is related to scanning, see the section about the MFP and scanner.

Method 1. Install Xerox Global Print Driver ARM64 for a USB Connection

Try this method first if the Xerox printer or MFP is connected to the ARM laptop with a USB cable.

Xerox Global Print Driver ARM64 supports Windows 11 ARM64 and can be used to install supported Xerox devices through a USB port. This is an important difference between Xerox and many other manufacturers that do not provide a separate ARM64 driver.

Official driver download page:

Download Xerox Global Print Driver for Windows 11 ARM64

Two main driver options are available on this page:

  • UNIV_5.1076.4.0_PCL6_ARM64 — PCL6 driver;
  • UNIV_5.1076.4.0_PS_arm64 — PostScript driver.

A newer driver version may appear on the Xerox website over time. This is normal. The main thing is to select the Windows 11 ARM64 platform, not regular Windows 11 x64.

Which Driver to Choose: PCL6 or PostScript

If you do not know which option to choose, try PCL6 first. This is a common option for regular office and home printing.

You can try PostScript if PCL6 does not work correctly, if PDF files are distorted, if documents print with errors, or if your organization normally uses a PostScript driver.

Important: The Driver Is Installed Manually Through an INF File

Xerox Global Print Driver ARM64 is downloaded as a ZIP archive. Such an archive may not contain a regular setup.exe installation file that the user can run by double-clicking.

This is normal. This type of driver is installed manually through an INF file.

For manual installation, use the following INF files:

  • for PCL6x3UNIVX.inf;
  • for PostScriptx3UNIVP.inf.

Do not select ntprint.inf and do not manually run service EXE files from the driver folder. For manual installation through Windows, you need the Xerox INF file.

  28. If Windows asks about printer sharing, for home use select Do not share this printer.
  29. Click Next.
  30. Click Print a test page.
  31. If the test page prints, click Finish.

If the USB Port Does Not Appear in the List

Sometimes the USB001 port or a similar USB port does not appear immediately. In this case:

  • make sure the printer is turned on;
  • try another USB port on the laptop;
  • try another USB cable;
  • disconnect the USB cable and connect it again;
  • restart the printer and the laptop;
  • after that, open the Add Printer wizard again.

If the USB port appears, repeat the installation through Have Disk and select the Xerox INF file.

If the Test Page Does Not Print

If the test page does not print, try the following:

  • check that the printer is turned on and is not showing an error on its display;
  • check the USB cable;
  • try another USB port;
  • remove the created printer and install it again;
  • if PCL6 was installed first, try PostScript;
  • if PostScript was installed first, try PCL6.

Method 2. Install Xerox Global Print Driver ARM64 for a Network Printer

This method is suitable if the Xerox printer or MFP is connected to a router, Wi-Fi, or an office network.

For network installation, you need to know the printer’s IP address. The IP address usually looks similar to this: 192.168.1.25 or 192.168.0.40.

You can find the IP address:

  • on the printer or MFP display in the network settings;
  • on the configuration page that can be printed from the device control panel;
  • in the router settings;
  • from the system administrator if the printer is on an office network.

How to Install the Xerox Driver by IP Address

  20. Click Open.
  21. Click OK.
  22. In the model list, select Xerox Global Print Driver PCL6 or Xerox Global Print Driver PS.
  23. Complete the installation and print a test page.

If printing by IP address does not work, check that the laptop and printer are on the same network. Also make sure that the IP address is entered correctly.

Method 3. Add Xerox Through Microsoft IPP Class Driver

If Xerox Global Print Driver ARM64 did not work, you can try the built-in Windows driver — Microsoft IPP Class Driver.

This method does not require downloading a Xerox driver. It is especially useful for modern Xerox network printers and MFPs that support IPP or Mopria.

How to Add an IPP Printer

  1. Connect the Xerox printer or MFP to the same network as the laptop.
  2. Click the Start button.
  3. Open Settings.
  4. Go to Bluetooth & devices.
  5. Open Printers & scanners.
  6. Click Add device.
  7. If Windows finds your printer, click Add device next to it.
  8. If the printer is not found, click Add manually.
  9. Select Add a printer using an IP address or hostname.
  10. Click Next.
  11. In the Device type field, select IPP Device, if this option is available.
  12. In the Hostname or IP address field, enter the printer’s IP address.
  13. Click Next and wait for the installation to finish.

If your version of Windows does not have the IPP Device option, try the regular search through the Add device button. If the printer supports IPP or Mopria, Windows may install it automatically.

After installation, print a test page.

Method 4. Check Mopria Support

Mopria is a printing and scanning standard that does not require installing old manufacturer drivers. For Windows 11 ARM, this is one of the important compatibility options.

You can check support on the official Mopria website:

Open the Mopria Certified Products list

How to Check a Xerox Model

  1. Open the Mopria Certified Products page.
  2. In the manufacturer search field, enter Xerox.
  3. Enter the exact device model. For example: AltaLink C8130, VersaLink C405, WorkCentre 6515.
  4. If the model is found, the device can most likely be used through built-in Windows printing.

If the model is not found, this does not always mean that printing is impossible. However, the likelihood of problems is higher, especially if the device is old and requires only a classic driver.

Do You Need to Install Mopria on Windows?

Usually, no. You do not need to look for Mopria for Windows as a separate driver.

On Windows 11 ARM, a compatible printer is added through Printers & scanners, and Windows uses its built-in printing tools.

If you found the Mopria app for Android while searching, you do not need it for a Windows laptop. It is intended for Android phones and tablets.

Method 5. Install Xerox Print and Scan Experience

Xerox Print and Scan Experience is a Xerox app from Microsoft Store. It supports ARM64 on Windows 11 22H2 and later.

The app can add additional printing and scanning features for compatible Xerox devices. It is especially useful if the printer is installed through IPP or Universal Print, but the standard Windows features are not enough.

Xerox app page:

Open the Xerox Print and Scan Experience page

App page in Microsoft Store:

Open Xerox Print and Scan Experience in Microsoft Store

How to Install the App

  1. First, add the printer through Windows.
  2. Open Microsoft Store.
  3. In the search bar, enter Xerox Print and Scan Experience.
  4. Open the app page.
  5. Click Get or Install. The button name may differ depending on the Microsoft Store version.
  6. Wait for the installation to finish.
  7. Open a document and click Print.
  8. Select your Xerox printer.
  9. Open Printing preferences and check whether additional settings have appeared.

In some cases, Windows installs Xerox Print and Scan Experience automatically after a compatible printer is added. This may take a few minutes.

If the app does not see the printer or does not add features, your model may not be supported by this app or the printer may have been installed in an unsuitable way.

Method 6. If Scanning Does Not Work on a Xerox MFP

It is important to understand: Xerox Global Print Driver ARM64 is a print driver. It can solve printing problems over USB or a network, but it does not guarantee scanner operation in an MFP by itself.

Old Xerox TWAIN and WIA scanner drivers are not supported on Windows 11 ARM64. Therefore, you should not repeatedly install an old Windows x64 scanner driver.

Also, the old Windows Fax and Scan app may be unavailable on Windows 11 ARM. Therefore, it is better to use other scanning options.

Option 1. Xerox Print and Scan Experience

  1. Make sure the Xerox MFP is connected to the network or installed in Windows as a compatible device.
  2. Install Xerox Print and Scan Experience from Microsoft Store.
  3. Open the app.
  4. Check whether the app sees your MFP.
  5. If the device is displayed, try scanning.

This option is not suitable for all models, but it is worth trying first if you need scanning through Windows 11 ARM.

Option 2. Scan to Email

Many Xerox MFPs can send scans to email. In this case, scanning is performed from the MFP’s own control panel, and a scanner driver on the laptop is not required.

This method is usually configured through the device web interface. In an office, this setup is often performed by a system administrator.

Option 3. Scan to Network Folder

If the MFP supports scan to network folder, you can set up a folder on the computer or server and send scans there from the MFP control panel.

For a home user, this method may be more difficult. In an office, it is usually configured by a system administrator.

Option 4. Scan to USB Flash Drive

Some Xerox MFPs support scanning to a USB flash drive. In this case, you can insert a USB flash drive into the MFP, scan the document, and then open the file on the laptop.

The availability of this function depends on the MFP model and administrator settings.

Option 5. MFP Web Interface

  1. Find out the MFP’s IP address.
  2. Open Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, or another browser.
  3. Enter the MFP’s IP address in the address bar. For example: http://192.168.1.25.
  4. Press Enter.
  5. If the device page opens, check the scanning, address book, and network folder sections.

If scanning through Windows does not work, but the MFP can send scans to email, to a network folder, or to a USB flash drive, use these functions. They often do not require installing a scanner driver on an ARM laptop.

If Windows Does Not Allow You to Install the Xerox Driver

Newer versions of Windows 11 may include Windows protected print mode.

This mode is designed for modern printing without old third-party drivers. If it is enabled, installing a classic Xerox driver through an INF file may be unavailable or may not work correctly.

You can check this mode here:

  1. Click the Start button.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Go to Bluetooth & devices.
  4. Open Printers & scanners.
  5. Find Windows protected print mode or a similar item, if it is available in your version of Windows.

If you need to install Xerox Global Print Driver ARM64 through an INF file, but Windows does not allow you to select a third-party driver, try turning this mode off and repeating the installation. After changing the mode, you may need to remove the previously created printer and add it again.

If you are using the printer through IPP/Mopria and printing already works, you usually do not need to turn this mode off.

If Xerox Is Used in an Office Through a Print Server

If the Xerox printer is in an office and connects through a print server, the problem should be handled by the system administrator.

The print server may have only a regular x64 driver installed. A Windows 11 ARM laptop may need a separate Xerox ARM64 driver.

What to tell the administrator:

  • you have a Windows 11 ARM64 laptop;
  • the regular x64 driver may not work;
  • Xerox provides Xerox Global Print Driver for Windows 11 ARM64 on its website;
  • for PCL6, the x3UNIVX.inf file is used;
  • for PostScript, the x3UNIVP.inf file is used;
  • for sharing through a server, adding the ARM64 driver as an additional driver may be required.

Do not change office print server settings yourself if you do not have administrator rights.

What You Should Not Do

When solving the problem, it is not recommended to:

  • run the old Xerox x64 driver many times in a row;
  • download drivers from unverified websites;
  • choose a random similar printer model;
  • manually run service EXE files from the driver folder;
  • select ntprint.inf instead of the Xerox INF file;
  • expect old TWAIN/WIA scanner drivers to work on ARM64;
  • assume that if printing works, scanning will also definitely work.

What to Try First

If you do not know where to start, use this short checklist:

  1. Check that SettingsSystemAbout shows ARM64 as the system type.
  2. Download Xerox Global Print Driver for Windows 11 ARM64 from the official Xerox website.
  3. Try the PCL6 driver first.
  4. If the printer is connected via USB, install the driver through the USB001 port or a similar USB port.
  5. If the printer is connected to a network, install the driver by IP address.
  6. When installing through Have Disk, select x3UNIVX.inf for PCL6 or x3UNIVP.inf for PostScript.
  7. If PCL6 does not work correctly, try the PostScript driver.
  8. If the Xerox driver did not work, add the printer through the built-in Microsoft IPP Class Driver.
  9. If you need additional features, install Xerox Print and Scan Experience.
  10. If the scanner does not work, use Xerox Print and Scan Experience, scan to email, scan to a network folder, or scan to a USB flash drive.

Conclusion

Xerox printers and MFPs can work on an ARM laptop with Windows 11, but not always through a regular x64 driver.

The main advantage of Xerox is that the manufacturer has released special ARM64 drivers. Therefore, if you have problems installing a printer on Windows 11 ARM, you should first try Xerox Global Print Driver ARM64.

For PCL6, you need the x3UNIVX.inf file. For PostScript, you need the x3UNIVP.inf file. These drivers can be used both for USB connections and for network installation of supported Xerox devices.

If the Xerox driver does not work, you can try built-in Windows printing through IPP/Mopria and the Xerox Print and Scan Experience app. However, old TWAIN/WIA drivers for scanning usually do not work on Windows 11 ARM64.
