Some modern Windows 11 laptops do not use a standard Intel or AMD processor, but an ARM processor instead. For example, these may include certain Microsoft Surface, Samsung Galaxy Book, ASUS, Lenovo, HP, and other Snapdragon-based devices.

On such a laptop, a Ricoh, Savin, Lanier, infotec, or Gestetner printer or MFP may not install with a regular driver. The installer may not start, Windows may report that the driver is incompatible, the printer may not print, or only basic functions may work.

This article explains in simple terms why this problem occurs and which solutions you can try.

Which Devices This Guide Applies To

This guide is suitable for many printers and MFPs from the following brands:

  • Ricoh;
  • Savin;
  • Lanier;
  • infotec;
  • Gestetner.

These brands often use a common Ricoh driver and software base. However, exact compatibility should always be checked for the specific device model. In different countries, the same device may be sold under different names.

Why a Regular Driver May Not Work

Windows 11 on an ARM laptop is different from Windows 11 on a regular x64 computer. Therefore, a driver that works with regular Windows 11 64-bit is not always suitable for Windows 11 on ARM.

If the manufacturer’s website lists Windows 11 64-bit, this usually means the Windows version for Intel and AMD processors, not Windows on ARM.

Regular Ricoh printer drivers are not designed for Windows on ARM. Therefore, on an ARM laptop, you usually need to use another connection method:

  • the built-in Windows driver;
  • network printing via IPP;
  • Mopria compatibility;
  • RICOH Print Support Application;
  • workarounds if the model is old.

How to Understand That the Problem Is Related to Windows 11 ARM

The problem may be related to Windows 11 ARM if you see one or more of the following signs:

  • the Ricoh, Savin, or Lanier driver installer does not start;
  • the driver installation fails with an error;
  • Windows reports that the driver is incompatible;
  • the printer is visible on the network but does not print;
  • printing works only with basic settings;
  • additional Ricoh print settings do not appear;
  • the scanner in the MFP is not detected;
  • an old USB printer does not install.

Before You Start, Check the System Type

First, you need to check whether you really have Windows 11 ARM.

  1. Click the Start button.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Go to System.
  4. Open About.
  5. Find the System type line.

If this line shows ARM64, you have Windows 11 on an ARM processor. In this case, a regular Windows x64 driver may not work.

If this line shows x64, the problem is not related to ARM. In that case, check the usual causes: cable, network, printer IP address, print queue, print service, and whether the correct driver is selected.

Important: You Do Not Need to Try All Methods in a Row

Different solutions are listed below. You do not have to perform all of them.

If the printer can be connected to the network, start with Method 1 and Method 2. If Windows does not find the printer automatically, use Method 3. If printing already works but some settings are missing, go to Method 5. If the problem is only with the scanner, go directly to Method 8.

Method 1. Connect the Printer or MFP to the Same Network as the Laptop

For Windows 11 ARM, it is better to use a network connection instead of an old USB driver.

You can connect the device in one of the following ways:

  • using an Ethernet cable connected to the router;
  • via Wi-Fi, if the printer or MFP supports a wireless network;
  • through an office local network.

It is important that the ARM laptop and the printer are on the same network. For example, the laptop is connected to the router’s Wi-Fi network, and the printer is connected to the same router by cable.

If the printer is currently connected only via USB, connect it to the network if possible. For many Ricoh, Savin, Lanier, infotec, and Gestetner devices, this is the easiest way to get printing working on Windows 11 ARM.

Method 2. Add the Printer Through Windows Settings

After connecting the printer to the network, add it in the standard way through Windows 11.

  1. Click the Start button.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Go to Bluetooth & devices.
  4. Open Printers & scanners.

The IP address usually looks similar to this: 192.168.1.25 or 192.168.0.40.

How to Add a Printer by IP Address

  1. Click the Start button.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Go to Bluetooth & devices.
  4. Open Printers & scanners.
  5. Click Add device.
  6. Wait a few seconds.
  7. If the required printer is not found, click Add manually.
  8. In the window that opens, select Add a printer using an IP address or hostname. In some versions of Windows, this item may be called Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname.
  9. Click Next.
  10. In the Hostname or IP address field, enter the printer’s IP address.
  11. Click Next and wait for the search to finish.

If Windows offers to use a built-in driver, agree. For Windows 11 ARM, this is usually better than trying to install an old x64 driver.

After installation, print a test page.

Method 4. Check Mopria Support

Mopria is a printing and scanning standard that does not require installing old manufacturer drivers. For Windows 11 ARM, this is one of the most important compatibility options.

  1. Open the Mopria Certified Products page.
  2. In the search field or manufacturer filter, enter Ricoh.
  3. If you have Savin, Lanier, infotec, or Gestetner, also try searching by the exact device model.
  4. Enter the model without extra words. For example: IM C3000, MP C3004, P 501.
  5. If the model is found, the device can most likely be used through built-in Windows printing.

If the model is not found, this does not always mean that printing is impossible. However, the likelihood of problems is higher. This is especially true for older models that require only the classic Ricoh, Savin, or Lanier driver.

Do You Need to Install Mopria on Windows?

Usually, no. You do not need to look for Mopria for Windows as a separate driver.

On Windows 11 ARM, a compatible printer is added through Printers & scanners, and Windows uses its built-in printing tools.

If you found the Mopria app for Android while searching, you do not need it for a Windows laptop. It is intended for Android phones and tablets.

Method 5. Install RICOH Print Support Application

If the printer has already been added to Windows and basic printing works, but additional Ricoh settings are missing, try installing RICOH Print Support Application.

This is an official Ricoh app for modern printing. It supports Windows on ARM and can add advanced print settings for compatible models.

How to Install the App

  1. First, add the printer through SettingsBluetooth & devicesPrinters & scanners.
  2. Open Microsoft Store.
  3. In the search bar, enter RICOH Print Support Application.
  4. Open the app page.
  5. Click Get or Install. The button name may differ depending on the Microsoft Store version.
  6. Wait for the installation to complete.
  7. Open a document and click Print.
  8. Select your Ricoh, Savin, Lanier, infotec, or Gestetner printer.
  9. Open Printing preferences and check whether additional settings have appeared.

If the application does not see the printer or does not add new settings, your model may not be supported. In this case, only basic printing through the built-in Windows driver may be available.

Method 6. Check Windows Protected Print Mode

Newer versions of Windows 11 include Windows protected print mode.

This mode is designed for modern Mopria-compatible printers. If the mode is enabled, Windows may use only modern built-in printing tools and not use third-party drivers.

For newer Mopria-compatible devices, this may be useful. For older Ricoh, Savin, Lanier, infotec, or Gestetner models, this mode may sometimes interfere with printing.

How to Check This Mode

  1. Click the Start button.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Go to Bluetooth & devices.
  4. Open Printers & scanners.
  5. Find Windows protected print mode, if it is available in your version of Windows.

If you have a modern Mopria printer, this mode can remain enabled.

If you have an older model and the printer stopped working after this mode was enabled, try turning the mode off and adding the printer again. However, it is important to understand that turning this mode off does not make an old x64 driver compatible with Windows 11 ARM.

Method 7. If the Printer Is Connected Only by USB

A USB connection on an ARM laptop can be problematic, especially for older models.

If the printer or MFP is connected by USB and does not install, first check whether the device has a network connection.

  1. Disconnect the USB cable from the laptop.
  2. Check whether the printer has an Ethernet port or Wi-Fi.
  3. If it has Ethernet, connect the printer to the router with a cable.
  4. If it has Wi-Fi, connect the printer to the same Wi-Fi network as the laptop.

How to Open the MFP Web Interface

  1. Find out the MFP’s IP address.
  2. Open Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, or another browser.
  3. Enter the MFP’s IP address in the address bar. For example: http://192.168.1.25.
  4. Press Enter.
  5. If the device page opens, check the scanning and address book sections.

If the MFP can send scans to email or to a network folder, this method is often better than installing an old scanner driver on an ARM laptop.

Method 9. Update the Printer or MFP Firmware

Sometimes, after a firmware update, the device works better with modern printing.

Firmware is the built-in software of the printer or MFP itself. It should be updated carefully.

  1. Find out the exact device model.
  2. Open the official Ricoh support website or the support website for your regional brand.
  3. Find the page for your model.
  4. Check whether a firmware update is available.
  5. Read the manufacturer’s instructions.
  6. Do not turn off the device during the update.

If you are not sure, it is better not to update the firmware yourself and to contact a specialist.

If you have a Savin, Lanier, infotec, or Gestetner device, the model may have an equivalent under the Ricoh brand.

Do not install a driver from a similar model at random. Similar names do not always mean full compatibility.

What You Should Not Do

When solving the problem, it is not recommended to:

  • install the old x64 driver many times in a row;
  • download drivers from unverified websites;
  • choose a random similar printer model;
  • disable Windows security features without understanding the reason;
  • update the device firmware without the manufacturer’s instructions;
  • assume that if printing works, scanning will also definitely work.

If Nothing Helped

If the device does not support Mopria, does not work through IPP, is not supported by RICOH Print Support Application, and requires only an old driver, there may be no complete solution for Windows 11 ARM.

In this case, you can use workarounds:

  • print from another computer with regular Windows x64;
  • transfer documents to a computer where the printer is already installed;
  • use an office print server if it is configured correctly;
  • use printing through the web interface or a corporate printing system, if this function is available;
  • for scanning, use scan to email or scan to a network folder from the MFP control panel;
  • replace the old device with a model that supports Mopria/IPP.

What to Try First

If you do not know where to start, use this short checklist:

  1. Check that SettingsSystemAbout shows ARM64 as the system type.
  2. Connect the printer or MFP to the same network as the laptop.
