EPSON L18050: how to remove the old driver, install the printer via Wi-Fi or USB, and fix installation errors

If EPSON L18050 was previously installed but the new driver now fails to install, Windows does not show the printer for removal, or the installer reports that drivers currently in use must be removed, it is better not to run the installer over and over again. First remove the old print queues and the EPSON L18050 driver, restart the computer, and then perform a clean installation.

Below is the procedure for Windows 11 and Windows 10 64-bit. Wi-Fi installation is covered first because EPSON L18050 is often used as a network printer. The USB installation method is described afterward.

Download the EPSON L18050 driver

For Windows 11 and Windows 10 64-bit, you can use the official Epson installation package:

The file is named epson673947eu.exe. This is the official Epson package for EPSON L18050 Series.

If you have already tried to install the driver and the installation ended with an error, first remove the old driver by following the instructions below. Do not install the new driver over a damaged or incomplete installation.

1. Do you need to disable Wi-Fi on the printer itself?

If EPSON L18050 is already connected to your home Wi-Fi network, you do not need to reset the printer’s network settings to remove and reinstall the driver.

For the removal process, it is enough to turn off the EPSON L18050. After cleaning up Windows, you can turn the printer back on, run the installer, and select a network connection. If the printer is still connected to the same Wi-Fi network, the installer will be able to find it again.

A complete network settings reset is only necessary if you want to stop using the previous Wi-Fi network or configure the connection from the beginning.

2. Remove the old EPSON L18050 from Windows

Before removing the driver, turn off the EPSON L18050.

Windows 11

  1. Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
  2. Find EPSON L18050 Series.
  3. Open the printer and click Remove.
  4. If there are several L18050 instances in the list, for example the regular printer and a copy of it, remove all instances of this model.

Windows 10

  1. Open Settings → Devices → Printers & scanners.
  2. Select EPSON L18050 Series.
  3. Click Remove device.
  4. If several L18050 instances are present, remove all of them.

If EPSON L18050 is not in this list at all, proceed to the next section. The driver itself may remain in Windows even after the printer has been removed.

3. If the printer is not listed but the old driver remains

This is one of the most common reasons why the Epson installer reports that the old driver is in use or must be removed.

  1. Press Win + R.
  2. Enter the command:
printui /s /t2
  1. Press Enter.
  2. The Print Server Properties window will open on the Drivers tab.
  3. Find EPSON L18050 Series.
  4. Select it and click Remove.
  5. If Windows offers a choice, select the option to remove the driver and driver package.
Do not remove drivers for other working printers. If HP, Canon, Brother, another Epson, or any other device is used on the computer, leave its drivers unchanged. To reinstall the L18050, remove only the driver related to EPSON L18050.

4. Windows reports that the driver is in use

If a message appears during removal stating that the EPSON L18050 driver is being used by one or more printers, this means that a print queue associated with this driver still remains in Windows.

First, check the printer list again and remove all EPSON L18050 instances.

If they are not displayed or the driver still cannot be removed, restart the printing service.

  1. Press Win + R.
  2. Enter:
services.msc
  1. Press Enter.
  2. Find the Print Spooler service.
  3. Right-click it and select Restart.
  4. Run the following command again:
printui /s /t2

Repeat the removal of EPSON L18050 Series.

If print jobs remain in the queue

An old print job can also prevent removal.

  1. Open EPSON L18050 under Printers & scanners if it is still displayed.
  2. Open the print queue.
  3. Delete all remaining jobs.
  4. Restart the Print Spooler service.
  5. Try removing the driver again.

After successfully removing the old driver, restart the computer.

5. Additional check in Windows 11

In Windows 11, the Epson driver may fail to install if Windows protected print mode is enabled.

If the installation fails again after removing the old driver:

  1. Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
  2. Scroll down the page.
  3. Find Windows protected print mode if this setting is available.
  4. If the mode is enabled, turn it off before installing the Epson driver.

If this setting is not available or is already disabled, no changes are required.

In Windows 10, you can skip this section.

6. Installing EPSON L18050 via Wi-Fi

This method is suitable if the printer is already connected to your home or office Wi-Fi network.

If EPSON L18050 previously printed over Wi-Fi and the router settings have not changed, you usually do not need to configure the printer’s wireless network again. It is enough to reinstall the driver on the computer.
  1. Turn on the EPSON L18050.
  2. Make sure the computer is connected to the same home or office network as the printer.
  3. Right-click the epson673947eu.exe file.
  4. Select Run as administrator.
  5. If Windows displays a User Account Control prompt, allow the program to run.
  6. Select the required language.
  7. Accept the license agreement.
  8. Make sure EPSON L18050 Series is selected.
  9. Continue the installation.

The installer will copy the required driver files. After a while, it will ask how the printer is connected.

Select:

Yes: Network connection

and click OK.

The program will begin searching for EPSON L18050 on the local network and automatically configure the network port.

Do not turn off the printer during the search.

7. What to do if the installer cannot find L18050 on the network

If the search takes a long time or the printer is not found, first check the most common causes:

  1. Make sure the EPSON L18050 is turned on.
  2. Make sure Wi-Fi is active on the printer.
  3. Check that the computer is connected to the same local network.
  4. If the computer is connected by Ethernet cable to the same router, that is fine — the computer does not have to use Wi-Fi.
  5. Restart the printer.
  6. If necessary, restart the router and run the search again.

If the Search Options button is available in the installer, you can use it to perform an additional search for the network printer.

Do not reset the printer’s Wi-Fi settings just because the installer did not find it on the first attempt. First make sure that the printer and computer are actually on the same local network.

8. How to disconnect the old Wi-Fi connection

If your goal is only to reinstall the driver, you can skip this section.

If you want to completely stop using the old Wi-Fi network and configure the network connection from the beginning, you can reset the EPSON L18050 network settings.

After the reset, the printer will forget the previous Wi-Fi settings. To use network printing again, you will need to configure the connection again.

Do not reset the network unless necessary. It is not required for normal driver removal in Windows.

9. Installing EPSON L18050 via USB

If you do not want to use Wi-Fi or want to first check the printer with a direct connection, you can install it via USB.

Before starting the installation, turn off the printer and do not connect the USB cable to the computer in advance.

  1. Run epson673947eu.exe as administrator.
  2. Select the language.
  3. Accept the license agreement.
  4. Make sure EPSON L18050 Series is selected.
  5. Continue the installation.

When the installer asks:

“Is the printer connected via a network?”

select:

No: USB port connection

and click OK.

The installation will continue. When the window prompting you to connect the printer appears:

  1. Turn on the EPSON L18050.
  2. Connect the USB cable directly to a USB port on the computer.
  3. Wait for the installer to detect the device.
  4. Wait for the port to be configured automatically and for the installation to complete.

For the initial check, it is not recommended to connect the printer through a USB hub, docking station, or long USB extension cable.

10. If EPSON L18050 is not detected via USB

If the installer continues waiting for the printer after it has been connected:

  1. Check that the printer is turned on.
  2. Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable.
  3. Try another USB port on the computer.
  4. If possible, use another USB cable.
  5. Do not connect the printer through a USB hub.

After connecting it, wait for a while: Windows may first detect the new device and then pass it to the Epson installer.

11. Check which driver is installed

After the installation is complete, open the printer list.

Windows 11

Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners → EPSON L18050 Series

Windows 10

Settings → Devices → Printers & scanners → EPSON L18050 Series

It is recommended to make sure that EPSON L18050 Series installed by the Epson driver package appears in the system, rather than only an automatically created Windows universal network printer.

12. Perform a test print

Open a small document or image and select EPSON L18050 Series in the print dialog.

If Wi-Fi is used, the printer should print without a USB cable.

If USB is used, leave the cable connected directly to the computer and perform a test print.

If the old EPSON L18050 driver has been removed, the new driver installs without errors, and the test page prints successfully, there is no need to remove drivers for other printers.
