EPSON L3250 driver does not install: how to install the printer and scanner in Windows 11/10

If you have already tried to install the drivers for EPSON L3250 but the installation ended with an error, especially when installing the scanner, it is not recommended to simply run the installers again. It is better to first remove the previous failed installation, restart the computer, and then install the printer driver and scanner driver separately.

Below is the procedure for Windows 11 and Windows 10 64-bit. The primary connection method is USB. It is convenient for troubleshooting installation errors because it lets you first verify that the driver itself works without adding possible Wi-Fi network configuration problems.

Important: if EPSON L3250 is already connected to the computer with a USB cable, turn off the multifunction printer and disconnect the USB cable before removing the old drivers. Connect it again only when the printer driver installer asks you to do so.

Which drivers are required for EPSON L3250

For normal operation of the multifunction printer, two main packages are required:

  • printer driver — required for printing;
  • Epson Scan 2 scanner driver — required for scanning.

For the 64-bit systems covered here, the following installation files are used:

The driver version on the Epson website may change over time. If you download the files again, select the driver specifically for Windows 11 64-bit or Windows 10 64-bit and download it from the official EPSON L3250 support page.

The additional Epson ScanSmart software is not required for basic scanning. Epson Scan 2 is installed together with the scanner driver. This program is usually sufficient for scanning documents and photos.

1. Remove the previous failed installation

If the driver has already been installed and the installation ended with an error, it is better to perform the new installation after removing the old components. Epson also recommends uninstalling and reinstalling the software when similar problems occur.

If another Epson device is used on the computer, do not remove programs and drivers related to that device. Remove only the EPSON L3250 and Epson Scan 2 components that need to be reinstalled.

Windows 11

  1. Turn off the EPSON L3250 and disconnect the USB cable from the computer.
  2. Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
  3. If EPSON L3250 Series is listed, open it and remove the device.
  4. Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
  5. Find Epson Scan 2 and uninstall it.
  6. Uninstall the installed EPSON L3250 printer software if it is present in the list.
  7. If Epson ScanSmart was installed only for this multifunction printer and is not needed, it can also be uninstalled. It is not required for further operation.

Windows 10

  1. Turn off the EPSON L3250 and disconnect the USB cable from the computer.
  2. Open Settings → Devices → Printers & scanners.
  3. Select EPSON L3250 Series and click Remove device.
  4. Open Settings → Apps → Apps & features.
  5. Find Epson Scan 2 and uninstall it.
  6. Uninstall the installed EPSON L3250 printer software if it is present.
  7. If Epson ScanSmart was used only with this multifunction printer and is not needed, it can also be uninstalled.

If the previous installation was interrupted and the device remains in Device Manager

This step is not always necessary. Perform it if the installation has already failed several times or Windows continues to detect an old Epson device after the software has been removed.

  1. Right-click the Start button and open Device Manager.
  2. Open View → Show hidden devices.
  3. Check the Imaging devices, Print queues, and Other devices sections.
  4. If EPSON L3250 Series or an Epson device associated with the failed installation remains there, right-click it and select the option to uninstall the device.
  5. If Windows also offers to remove the driver for this device, confirm the removal.
Do not remove unknown USB controllers, system devices, or drivers for other hardware. In Device Manager, remove only the device that clearly belongs to EPSON L3250.

After removal, restart the computer. The EPSON L3250 USB cable must remain disconnected until the new installation begins.

2. Additional check in Windows 11

Windows 11 includes Windows protected print mode. If it is enabled, Windows uses its own modern printing mechanism and does not allow conventional third-party printer drivers to be installed.

If the EPSON L3250 driver does not install, check this setting before reinstalling it.

  1. Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
  2. Scroll down to the printer settings.
  3. If the Windows protected print mode section is displayed and the mode is enabled, turn it off.
  4. If Windows has already automatically added EPSON L3250 with a Microsoft universal driver, remove this printer from the list before installing the Epson driver.

If this setting is not present in your version of Windows 11 or is already disabled, you do not need to change anything.

For Windows 10, this section can be skipped.

3. Install the EPSON L3250 printer driver

After removing the previous installation, install the printer driver first.

  1. Make sure the EPSON L3250 USB cable is still not connected to the computer.
  2. Right-click the L3250_STD_WW_38005_W64.exe file and select Run as administrator.
  3. If a Windows User Account Control prompt appears, allow the program to run.
  4. Select the required installer language and continue the installation.
  5. Read the license agreement, select the option to accept it, and continue.
  6. Make sure EPSON L3250 Series is selected in the list.

You can choose to set the printer as the default printer if desired. Automatic software updates are not required for the driver installation itself.

After the installation begins, the program will prepare the driver and proceed to device detection.

Connect the USB cable only after the installer prompts you to do so. Turn on the EPSON L3250, connect the USB cable directly to a USB port on the computer, and wait until the program detects the device and automatically configures the port.

For the initial installation and troubleshooting, it is not recommended to connect the multifunction printer through a USB hub, docking station, or long extension cable.

If the installer does not detect EPSON L3250

First, wait for a while after connecting the powered-on multifunction printer. If the device is still not detected:

  1. Make sure the EPSON L3250 is turned on.
  2. Disconnect the USB cable and reconnect it.
  3. Try another USB port on the computer.
  4. If possible, test another USB cable.
  5. Do not use a USB hub or docking station.

If automatic detection still does not work, you can open Setup in the installer, select USB connection, and continue the installation manually.

After the device is detected, wait until the installation is fully completed. If the program asks you to restart the computer, restart it.

4. Install the scanner driver and Epson Scan 2

After installing the printer driver, the scanner components must be installed separately.

Use the file:

EpsonScan2_L3250_67810_41_Signed.exe

  1. Make sure the EPSON L3250 is turned on and connected to the computer.
  2. Right-click the EpsonScan2_L3250_67810_41_Signed.exe file.
  3. Select Run as administrator.
  4. Allow the program to run if Windows displays a User Account Control prompt.
  5. Accept the license agreement.
  6. Wait for the installation to complete.

The Epson Scan 2 program is installed together with the scanner driver. Its features are usually sufficient for basic scanning of documents and photos. You do not need to install the additional Epson ScanSmart software just for simple scanning.

After the installation is complete, open the Start menu, find Epson Scan 2, and launch the program.

Place a document or photo on the scanner glass and perform a test scan.

5. What to do if Epson Scan 2 still does not install

If the error occurs specifically during installation of the scanner driver, downloading the same file in another browser usually does not solve the problem. The cause may be remnants of the previous installation, temporary Windows files, or an already installed corrupted driver.

Uninstall Epson Scan 2 again

Open the list of installed Windows apps and check whether Epson Scan 2 appeared there after the failed installation. If it did, uninstall it and restart the computer.

Run the installer from a simple local folder

Create the following folder on the system drive:

C:\Epson

Copy the EpsonScan2_L3250_67810_41_Signed.exe file into it, then right-click the file and select Run as administrator.

This helps rule out problems caused by running the installer from the browser’s temporary folder, a network drive, or a synchronized folder.

Clear temporary installer files

  1. Press Win + R.
  2. Enter:

  1. Press Enter.
  2. Close running programs.
  3. Delete the contents of the folder that Windows allows you to delete.
  4. Skip files that are in use by the system and cannot be deleted.
  5. Restart the computer.
  6. Run the Epson Scan 2 installer again from the C:\Epson folder as administrator.

Check whether an old scanner device remains

If the installation fails again:

  1. Disconnect the EPSON L3250 USB cable.
  2. Open Device Manager.
  3. Select View → Show hidden devices.
  4. Check the Imaging devices and Other devices sections.
  5. If an old EPSON L3250 or an Epson device with a warning icon remains there, remove only that device.
  6. Restart Windows.
  7. Connect the multifunction printer and install Epson Scan 2 again.

Check Windows Security

If the installation suddenly stops for no clear reason, open Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Protection history and check whether an Epson file or component was blocked.

It is not recommended to completely disable Windows protection just to install the driver. If there are no messages about Epson being blocked in the protection history, leave the protection enabled.

If third-party antivirus software is being used and it displays a specific message that the Epson installer has been blocked, first make sure that you are using the original installation file. Then allow the trusted file to run using the antivirus software’s own controls.

6. Epson Scan 2 is installed, but the scanner is not detected

If Epson Scan 2 was installed without errors but the program does not detect the scanner, this is no longer a driver installation error. First check the USB connection.

  1. Make sure the EPSON L3250 is turned on.
  2. Connect it directly to a USB port on the computer.
  3. Do not use a USB hub or docking station.
  4. Try another USB port.
  5. If possible, test another USB cable.
  6. Restart the EPSON L3250 and the computer.
  7. Launch Epson Scan 2 again.

If the printer is already printing but Epson Scan 2 still does not detect the scanner, open Device Manager and check whether there is a warning icon next to the Epson device.

If such a device is present, remove it, disconnect the USB cable, restart the computer, and reinstall Epson Scan 2.

If the initial Wi-Fi installation ended with an error, for driver troubleshooting it is preferable to first get printing and scanning working properly over a direct USB connection. After that, the network connection can be configured separately. This makes it easier to determine whether the problem is related to the driver or to the network configuration.

7. Check printing and scanning

After the installation is complete, both multifunction printer functions should be tested separately.

Printing: open any small document or page and send it to EPSON L3250 Series.

Scanning: launch Epson Scan 2, place a document on the scanner glass, and perform a test scan.

If EPSON L3250 prints and Epson Scan 2 scans successfully, the required drivers are installed correctly. Additional Epson software is not required for basic printing and scanning.
