Redragon K565 is a wired mechanical gaming keyboard with RGB lighting and support for programmable functions. A separate Redragon system driver is not required for normal text input: after connection, Windows automatically uses standard HID drivers.
The proprietary Redragon program is required for additional settings. At the same time, different software packages are available for K565 depending on the keyboard layout.
Which program to install for Redragon K565
| Model | Layout | Correct installer |
|---|---|---|
| K565-US | US, 104 keys | Redragon_K565-RGB_Setup_V1.6.6_20220819_ed8e3efb-9635-44b1-b38d-dd448387d8a2.exe |
| K565-UK | UK, 105 keys | Redragon_K565-RGB_UK_Setup_V1.6.6_20230407.exe |
| K565-DE | DE / QWERTZ, 105 keys | Redragon_K565-RGB_UK_Setup_V1.6.6_20230407.exe |
How to identify your K565 version
Before installing the program, check the keyboard layout and, if possible, the designation on the label on the underside of the case.
Main differences:
- K565-US — US layout, 104 keys;
- K565-UK — UK layout, 105 keys;
- K565-DE — German QWERTZ layout, 105 keys.
If the keyboard has a German layout, do not install the US version of the program just because its name does not contain UK.
Does Redragon K565 need a separate driver?
A separate Redragon driver is not required for normal operation.
- Connect the keyboard directly to a USB port on the computer.
- Wait a few seconds.
- Windows will automatically detect the USB keyboard.
- Open any text editor.
- Test letters, numbers, Enter, Backspace, Space, and the numeric keypad.
If the keyboard types, the standard HID driver is already installed and working.
There is no need to look for a universal K565 driver or use third-party automatic driver update programs.
The Windows driver and the Redragon program are different components
The standard Windows HID driver provides normal keyboard operation.
The proprietary Redragon program is intended for additional functions, including supported programmable keys, macros, and RGB lighting settings.
Therefore, K565 can be used without installing Redragon Software if additional settings are not required.
Where to download Redragon K565 software
Use the official Redragon software catalog:
Find the option that matches your keyboard:
- K565-US — for the US version;
- K565-UK/DE — for the British and German versions.
Both verified installers have version 1.6.6, but they are different builds. They differ in date, file size, and internal contents.
Installing the K565-US program
For the US version, use:
Redragon_K565-RGB_Setup_V1.6.6_20220819_ed8e3efb-9635-44b1-b38d-dd448387d8a2.exe
- Connect K565-US directly to a USB port on the computer.
- Make sure the keyboard works without additional software.
- Download the K565-US version from the official Redragon website.
- Close Redragon programs intended for other keyboards.
- Run the installer EXE file.
- Follow the steps provided by the installer.
- After installation, leave the keyboard connected.
- Launch the Redragon program.
- Check whether the device is detected.
Installing the K565-UK and K565-DE program
The British and German versions use the same package:
Redragon_K565-RGB_UK_Setup_V1.6.6_20230407.exe
- Connect the keyboard directly to the computer.
- Test normal text input.
- Download the K565-UK/DE version from the official website.
- Close configuration programs for other Redragon keyboards.
- Run the installer file.
- Complete the installation.
- Launch the program while K565 is connected.
If you have K565-DE, the presence of UK in the name of this official installer does not mean that the wrong package was selected.
Installation in Windows 11
K565 supports operation in Windows 11. The standard system HID driver is used for normal connection.
- Connect the keyboard to a USB port.
- Test text input without the Redragon program.
- Identify whether you have the US or UK/DE version.
- Download the corresponding installer.
- Run it.
- Complete the installation.
- Launch the Redragon program while the keyboard is connected.
If normal input works but the proprietary program does not detect K565, first check whether the correct software version was selected rather than troubleshooting the system HID driver.
Installation in Windows 10
- Connect K565 to a USB port on the computer.
- Wait for Windows to detect the device.
- Test text input.
- Identify the keyboard layout.
- Download K565-US or K565-UK/DE.
- Close other Redragon programs.
- Run the corresponding EXE file.
- Complete the installation and launch the program.
Windows shows a warning when launching the installer
The verified K565 installers may not appear in Windows as programs with a standard digital signature from a verified publisher. Therefore, Microsoft Defender SmartScreen or another Windows protection feature may display an additional warning.
Do not disable Microsoft Defender, SmartScreen, or antivirus protection just to install the K565 program.
Before continuing:
- make sure the file was downloaded from the official Redragon website;
- check the K565 designation in the file name;
- verify the US or UK/DE version;
- do not use installers from unknown websites.
The program shows Device is disconnected
If K565 types normally but the program shows Device is disconnected or does not open the settings, this does not necessarily indicate a Windows driver problem.
First, check whether the correct program is installed.
- Close Redragon Software.
- Identify the keyboard layout.
- For K565-US, check that the K565-US package is installed.
- For K565-UK or K565-DE, check that the K565-UK/DE package is installed.
- Connect the keyboard directly to another USB port.
- Do not use a USB hub or docking station for testing.
- Wait a few seconds.
- Test normal text input.
- Launch the program again.
If the wrong software version is installed
For example, if the US version was installed for K565-UK or K565-DE, uninstall it and install the UK/DE package.
Windows 11
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Find the Redragon program.
- Click the three-dot button next to it.
- Select Uninstall.
- Restart the computer.
- Make sure K565 works as a normal keyboard.
- Install the correct program version.
Windows 10
- Open Settings → Apps → Apps & features.
- Find the Redragon program.
- Select it and click Uninstall.
- Restart the computer.
- Install the correct package for your K565.
The program does not launch
If the keyboard types but Redragon Software does not open or closes immediately after launch, first reinstall the proprietary program itself.
- Uninstall the installed program.
- Restart Windows.
- Identify the exact K565 variant.
- Download the correct installer again from the official website.
- Connect the keyboard directly to a USB port.
- Close other Redragon programs.
- Repeat the installation.
If normal input works, do not remove the system HID drivers unnecessarily.
Configuring programmable keys
K565 supports programmable functions through the proprietary software.
The names of sections and buttons may differ between program builds, so use the interface of the installed version as your reference.
General procedure:
- launch the Redragon program;
- select the key whose assignment you want to change;
- select an available action;
- apply the change;
- test the key.
For the first test, it is recommended to change only one key. This makes it easier to undo the change if the result differs from what you expected.
Configuring macros
If the macro editor is available in the program for your K565, first create a short test sequence.
- Open the macro section.
- Create a new macro.
- Record several key presses.
- If necessary, configure the available delays.
- Assign the macro to a supported key.
- Apply the changes.
- Check the result in a text editor or another safe application.
After a successful test, you can create more complex macros.
Configuring RGB lighting
K565 has built-in RGB lighting and several preset effects. Therefore, the proprietary program is not required for normal use of the lighting.
If Redragon Software provides additional RGB settings:
- open the lighting section;
- select an available effect or setting;
- apply the change;
- check the result on the keyboard.
Do not use key combinations or instructions for another Redragon model just because the devices look similar.
Keys started working incorrectly after configuration
If the problem appeared after changing assignments or creating a macro:
- launch the correct program for your K565;
- find the recently changed assignment;
- delete or disable the problematic macro;
- restore the key to its standard action if the program provides this option;
- apply the changes;
- test input in a text editor.
Do not install software for another model to restore normal operation.
How to check the keyboard in Windows 11
- Right-click the Start button.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Keyboards.
- Also check Human Interface Devices.
K565 may appear under a standard system HID keyboard name. The absence of the word Redragon in the name is not an error by itself.
If the keyboard types and there are no warning icons next to the devices, there is no need to look for a separate system driver.
How to check the keyboard in Windows 10
- Right-click the Start button.
- Open Device Manager.
- Check Keyboards.
- Check Human Interface Devices.
If text input works, the standard HID driver is already doing its job.
If K565 does not work at all
If Windows does not respond when the keyboard is connected and the keyboard does not type, first check the USB connection.
- Disconnect K565.
- Connect it to another USB port on the computer.
- Do not use a USB hub for testing.
- Restart the computer.
- Connect the keyboard again.
- If the problem persists, test K565 on another computer.
If the device is not detected on another computer either, installing a different version of Redragon Software usually does not solve this problem.
A yellow icon appears in Device Manager
If you have determined that the error is specifically related to K565, you can make Windows detect the device again.
- Disconnect the keyboard.
- Open Device Manager.
- Find the device with the error associated with K565.
- Right-click it.
- Select Uninstall device.
- Restart the computer.
- After Windows starts, connect the keyboard again.
Windows will reinstall the standard device component.
Do not install software or firmware for another model
The proprietary program may interact with internal keyboard functions. Software or firmware for another model may be incompatible even if the devices look similar.
If the program does not detect K565, first check:
- whether it is the US or UK/DE version;
- whether the correct 1.6.6 package is installed;
- whether the keyboard works without the program;
- whether it is connected directly to a USB port.
Do not proceed to firmware for another model.
Can Redragon K565 be used without the proprietary program?
Yes. Redragon Software is not required for normal text input and standard keyboard functions.
Windows uses the standard HID driver, and the main built-in K565 functions work independently of the program.
The proprietary software is only required when additional supported settings are needed, such as programmable keys, macros, or advanced RGB configuration.
If necessary, the next step can be to check the next Redragon model in the same way, first using official materials and the installer, and then prepare a publication-ready HTML article.
