Redragon K599-KRS, also known as DEIMOS K599, is a compact 70-key mechanical keyboard that can operate via a USB cable or a 2.4 GHz wireless receiver. A separate Redragon system driver is not required for normal text input: Windows uses standard HID drivers.
The proprietary Redragon program is only required for additional settings. K599-KRS has one important feature: the program should be used while the keyboard is connected by cable.
Does Redragon K599-KRS need a driver?
A special Redragon driver is not required for basic operation.
You can test the keyboard before installing the proprietary program:
- Connect K599-KRS to the computer with a USB-C cable.
- Wait a few seconds.
- Windows will automatically detect the new HID device.
- Open any text editor.
- Test letters, numbers, Space, Enter, Backspace, and other main keys.
If the keyboard types, the standard Windows driver is already working.
There is no need to look for a separate universal keyboard driver or install automatic driver update programs.
Two ways to connect K599-KRS
K599-KRS supports two operating modes:
- wired connection via USB cable;
- 2.4 GHz wireless connection through the included USB receiver.
Bluetooth is not used on this version of K599.
It is important to distinguish between normal keyboard operation and operation of the proprietary program. You can type and play using either the cable or 2.4 GHz. Wired mode is recommended for configuration through Redragon Software.
How to connect K599-KRS by cable
- Connect the USB-C connector of the cable to the keyboard.
- Connect the USB connector of the cable to the computer.
- Wait for Windows to detect the device.
- Test the keyboard.
The wired connection works on a Plug & Play basis. There is no need to install a separate driver before the first connection.
The built-in battery also charges while the keyboard is connected by cable.
How to connect K599-KRS via 2.4 GHz
- Turn on the keyboard with the power switch.
- Remove the included 2.4 GHz USB receiver.
- Connect the receiver directly to an available USB port on the computer.
- Wait a few seconds while Windows detects the receiver and keyboard.
- Test text input.
Installing the Redragon program is not required for normal wireless connection.
What to do if the keyboard does not connect to the USB receiver
If the receiver is connected but K599-KRS does not transmit key presses, first try the re-pairing procedure provided in the manufacturer’s manual.
- Make sure the keyboard battery is charged.
- Disconnect the USB receiver from the computer.
- Turn on the keyboard.
- Press the key combination:
Fn + K
- After pairing mode starts, connect the USB receiver to the computer.
- Do this within approximately 20 seconds after starting pairing.
- Wait for the keyboard to connect to the receiver automatically.
- Test text input.
If 2.4 GHz still does not work
Check the wireless connection step by step:
- Connect the USB receiver to another USB port on the computer.
- Do not use a USB hub or docking station for testing.
- Charge the keyboard through the cable.
- Repeat pairing with
Fn + K. - Test K599-KRS using the cable.
If the keyboard works over the cable but not through the receiver, this helps separate a wireless connection problem from a general keyboard malfunction.
Official Redragon K599-KRS program
Separate Redragon software for Windows is available for K599-KRS.
It can be downloaded from the manufacturer’s official section:
K599/DEIMOS is also available in the separate software and manuals section:
Two names of the official installer have been verified for this model:
Redragon_K599-KRS_Mechanical_Keyboard_1.0.0.0_Setup.exe
and:
Redragon_K599-KRS_Software.exe
These are the same installer. The verified files are completely identical and contain program version 1.0.0.0.
The internal program name is:
Redragon K599-KRS Mechanical Keyboard
Redragon_K599-KRS_Software.exe, there is no need to specifically download the older file with the longer name. The verified variants contain the same version 1.0.0.0 program.What the Redragon program is used for
The proprietary program is an additional configuration utility, not a required keyboard driver.
It is used for the available programmable functions and additional K599-KRS settings.
If you are satisfied with the current keyboard settings, you do not need to install the program. The main functions and built-in lighting modes are available without it.
Before installing the program
It is recommended to first test K599-KRS without additional software.
- Connect the keyboard to the computer with a cable.
- Make sure it types.
- Close Redragon programs for other keyboards if they are running.
- Download the K599-KRS program from the official website.
Installing the program in Windows 11
- Connect K599-KRS to the computer with a cable.
- Test normal text input.
- Download the installer from the official Redragon website.
- Run:
Redragon_K599-KRS_Software.exe
or the official file with the full version 1.0.0.0 name.
- If Windows asks for permission to make changes, check the name of the file being launched.
- Follow the installer steps.
- After installation, keep the keyboard connected by cable.
- Launch the Redragon program.
- Check whether K599-KRS is detected.
If the keyboard works but the program does not detect it, first check the connection mode. For this model, installing another HID driver is usually not required.
Installing the program in Windows 10
- Connect K599-KRS with the USB cable.
- Wait for Windows to detect the keyboard.
- Test text input.
- Download the official K599-KRS installer.
- Close configuration programs for other Redragon keyboards.

- Complete the installation.
- Launch the program while the keyboard is connected by cable.
Windows 11 considerations
The official K599 manual was released before Windows 11 became widely used and lists Windows versions up to Windows 10.
This does not mean that the keyboard cannot work in Windows 11. Normal operation uses the standard Windows HID mechanism.
However, the proprietary program version 1.0.0.0 is an older software package. Therefore, if the keyboard works in Windows 11 but Redragon Software causes an error, first check the program itself and the connection method rather than replacing the system driver.
Windows shows a warning when launching the installer
The verified installer may not appear as a standard application with a digital signature from a verified publisher. Therefore, Windows or Microsoft Defender SmartScreen may display an additional warning.
Do not disable Microsoft Defender, SmartScreen, or antivirus protection just to install the program.
Instead:
- check that the file was obtained from an official Redragon page;
- verify the K599-KRS designation in the file name;
- do not run K599 installers from unknown websites;
- do not install software for another model just to bypass the warning.
The program says that the device was not found
If a message such as No Device Detected appears while the keyboard works normally via 2.4 GHz, the most important thing to check is the connection method.
- Close the Redragon program.
- Connect K599-KRS to the computer with a USB cable.
- Wait a few seconds.
- Make sure Windows accepts input from the keyboard.
- Launch the program again.
For K599-KRS, the manufacturer specifically indicates that the software should be used in wired mode.
Therefore, the device not appearing in the program while the keyboard is operating only through the USB receiver should not immediately be considered a driver malfunction.
The program does not detect the keyboard even over the cable
If K599-KRS is connected by cable and types, but the program still does not detect it:
- close the program;
- connect the cable directly to another USB port on the computer;
- do not use a USB hub or docking station;
- make sure the package installed is specifically for K599-KRS;
- close other Redragon programs;
- launch the program again.
If this does not help, perform a clean reinstallation of the program.
How to reinstall the program in Windows 11
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Find the Redragon K599-KRS program.
- Click the three-dot button.
- Select Uninstall.
- Restart the computer.
- Connect K599-KRS with the cable.
- Check normal keyboard operation.
- Download the official installer again.
- Repeat the installation.
How to reinstall the program in Windows 10
- Open Settings → Apps → Apps & features.
- Find the Redragon K599-KRS program.
- Select it and click Uninstall.
- Restart the computer.
- Connect the keyboard with the cable.
- Install the official K599-KRS package again.
Lighting can be used without the program
K599-KRS has built-in RGB lighting controls, so the program is not required for using the main lighting effects.
The official manual provides several groups of built-in effects, brightness, speed and animation direction adjustments, as well as a custom lighting mode.
Therefore, if the proprietary program is temporarily not working, this does not mean that the keyboard lighting is completely unavailable.
Custom lighting mode
K599 allows you to configure custom lighting directly from the keyboard.
Use the following key combination to enter the mode:
Fn + Tab
After entering configuration mode, the indicator for the corresponding key begins flashing. You can then select keys and set the supported lighting options. After configuration is complete, use Fn + Tab again to save the changes.
If custom mode is not required, you do not need to install the program just to use the normal built-in effects.
How to restore the keyboard to factory settings
If a problem appears after changing built-in functions or custom lighting, the official K599 manual provides a hardware reset:
Fn + ScrLk
This key combination returns the keyboard settings to their factory state.
If some keys work incorrectly after configuration
If the problem appeared after changing settings in the program:
- connect the keyboard by cable;
- launch the K599-KRS program;
- check recently changed assignments;
- undo the problematic change if this option is available;
- apply the settings;
- test the keyboard in a text editor.
If the problem is related to built-in keyboard settings and cannot be undone normally, you can use the confirmed K599 reset Fn + ScrLk.
How to check K599-KRS in Windows 11
- Right-click the Start button.
- Select Device Manager.
- Check Keyboards.
- Also check Human Interface Devices.
K599-KRS may appear under a standard HID keyboard name. The absence of the word Redragon in the device name does not by itself indicate an incorrect installation.
How to check K599-KRS in Windows 10
- Right-click the Start button.
- Open Device Manager.
- Check Keyboards and Human Interface Devices.
- Check for warning icons.
If text input works and there are no warning icons, there is no need to look for an additional system driver.
If the keyboard is not detected at all
If K599-KRS does not work either by cable or via 2.4 GHz, first rule out connection problems.
- Connect the keyboard directly to the computer with a cable.
- Try another USB port.
- Allow the battery to charge.
- Restart the computer.
- Test the keyboard on another computer.
If wired mode works but wireless mode does not, repeat pairing with Fn + K.
If the keyboard is not detected even with a wired connection on another computer, installing another version of Redragon Software usually does not solve this problem.
If a yellow icon appears in Device Manager
If you have determined that the error belongs specifically to the connected K599-KRS:
- disconnect the keyboard;
- open Device Manager;
- find the device with the error associated with K599-KRS;
- right-click it;
- select Uninstall device;
- restart the computer;
- connect the keyboard with the cable and wait for Windows to detect it again.
Do not install software or firmware for another K599
When searching for software, pay attention to the full K599-KRS designation.
Do not use software or firmware for other Redragon variants just because the name contains K599 or the keyboard looks similar.
It is especially not recommended to experiment with firmware as a way to fix a 2.4 GHz problem or a No Device Detected message. First use the wired connection, re-pair the receiver, and use the correct K599-KRS program.
Can K599-KRS be used without the Redragon program?
Yes. The proprietary program is not required for normal use.
K599-KRS can work as a standard keyboard through a USB cable or the 2.4 GHz wireless receiver. The main lighting modes are also available directly from the keyboard.
Redragon Software version 1.0.0.0 is only required for the additional settings that the user wants to configure through the program.
