Redragon K636 series keyboards have similar names and appearance, but different variants use different versions of the proprietary software. Therefore, before installing the program, you need to identify the exact keyboard model.
This guide is intended for the following models:
- Redragon K636GLR;
- Redragon K636GLR-R;
- Redragon K636LGR-R;
- Redragon K636CLO / K636CLO-RGB;
- Redragon K636LGR-KR.
These keyboards do not require a separate Redragon system driver for normal text input. After connection, Windows uses standard HID drivers. The proprietary Redragon program is only required for additional functions available for the specific variant.
Which program to install for your K636
| Model | Verified installer | Note |
|---|---|---|
| K636GLR | Redragon_K636GLR-Software.exe |
Do not use the K636GLR-R package just because the name is similar. |
| K636GLR-R | Redragon_K636GLR-R_K636LGR-R_Setup_V1.0_20230724.exe |
Shared package for K636GLR-R and K636LGR-R. |
| K636LGR-R | Redragon_K636GLR-R_K636LGR-R_Setup_V1.0_20230724.exe |
It is normal for both model names to appear in the installer. |
| K636CLO / K636CLO-RGB | Redragon_K636CLO-RGB_Setup_V1.6.7_20220918.exe |
Version 1.6.7. Do not use software for GLR or LGR. |
| K636LGR-KR | Redragon_K636LGR-KR_Setup_V1.0_20250506.exe |
The official page may also use the name Redragon_K636LGR-KR_Software.exe. |
Does Redragon K636 need a separate driver?
A separate Redragon driver is not required for normal keyboard operation.
The correct procedure after the first connection:
- Connect the keyboard directly to a USB port on the computer.
- Wait a few seconds.
- Windows will automatically detect the USB device and install the standard HID components.
- Open any text editor.
- Test letters, numbers, Enter, Backspace, Space, and the numeric keypad.
If normal input works, there is no need to look for another system driver.
The standard Windows HID driver and the proprietary Redragon program are separate components.
The HID driver provides basic keyboard operation. Redragon Software is used only for additional features of the specific model.
Where to download the software
Use the official Redragon software catalog:
Redragon software and downloads
Separate download pages are also available for some K636 models:
- Redragon K636GLR Gaming Keyboard;
- Redragon K636GLR-R Gaming Keyboard;
- Redragon K636CLO Gaming Keyboard;
- Redragon K636LGR-KR Gaming Keyboard.
If the file name on the manufacturer’s website has changed, first make sure that the download is located specifically on the page for your model. Do not replace it with software for another K636 variant just because the old file name does not match the new one.
Redragon K636GLR
K636GLR uses separate software.
Verified file:
Redragon_K636GLR-Software.exe
This model officially supports programmable functions and macros.
Redragon K636GLR-R and K636LGR-R
These two designations use the same verified installer:
Redragon_K636GLR-R_K636LGR-R_Setup_V1.0_20230724.exe
If you have K636GLR-R and the installer name also contains K636LGR-R, this alone does not mean that the wrong file was downloaded.
Likewise, for K636LGR-R, the presence of K636GLR-R in the name of this shared package is normal.
Do not use this installer for the standard K636GLR without -R if a separate package is available for it.
Redragon K636CLO / K636CLO-RGB
This variant uses its own software version:
Redragon_K636CLO-RGB_Setup_V1.6.7_20220918.exe
The verified version is 1.6.7.
The K636CLO-RGB designation in the official installer name is normal for the K636CLO covered here.
K636CLO officially supports programmable functions, including macros and lighting settings.
Redragon K636LGR-KR
A newer installer has been verified for K636LGR-KR:
Redragon_K636LGR-KR_Setup_V1.0_20250506.exe
Its name includes version V1.0 and the date 2025-05-06.
A different download name may also appear on the separate official page for this model:
Redragon_K636LGR-KR_Software.exe
If the file is downloaded directly from the K636LGR-KR page, a different name does not automatically mean that the software is intended for another model.
Do not confuse K636LGR-KR with K636LGR-R. These are different designations and you should not automatically use the same installer for both.
How to install Redragon software in Windows 11
First identify the exact model and select the corresponding installer from the table above.
- Connect the keyboard directly to a USB port on the computer.
- Check that normal input works without the Redragon program.
- Download the software for your model from the official website.
- Close Redragon programs intended for other keyboards.
- Run the corresponding EXE file.
- If Windows asks for permission to make changes, check the file name and model again.
- Complete the installation.
- Launch the program while the keyboard is connected.
- Check whether the device is detected.
If the keyboard works in Windows but the Redragon program does not detect it, this usually does not mean that the HID driver is missing.
How to install Redragon software in Windows 10
- Connect the keyboard to a USB port on the computer.
- Wait for Windows to detect the device.
- Test normal text input.
- Download the program intended specifically for your K636 variant.
- Close other Redragon device configuration programs.
- Run the installer.
- Complete the installation.
- Launch the program while the keyboard is connected.
If Windows shows a warning when launching the installer
Some verified Redragon programs for the K636 family may not appear in Windows as applications with a standard digital signature from a verified publisher.
Therefore, Windows or Microsoft Defender SmartScreen may display an additional warning.
Do not disable SmartScreen, Microsoft Defender, or antivirus protection just to install the keyboard program.
Before continuing:
- make sure the file was obtained from the official Redragon website;
- check the model designation in the installer name;
- do not use files with the same name from unknown websites;
- do not install another K636 package just to bypass a Windows warning.
How to use the proprietary program
The set of functions depends on the specific K636 variant and software version.
Therefore, you should not copy the names of tabs, buttons, and available settings from the program for one K636 model into instructions for another.
After the first launch, it is recommended to proceed gradually:
- make sure the program detects the keyboard;
- change only one setting;
- apply the change;
- check the result;
- after a successful test, proceed to other settings.
Configuring programmable keys
On models and software versions where key reassignment is available, use the following general procedure:
- Launch the Redragon program.
- Select the key you want to configure.
- Select one of the available actions.
- Apply the change using the command provided in the program.
- Check the operation of the key.
For the first test, it is better to choose a key whose original assignment can easily be restored.
Configuring macros
If the software for your K636 variant supports macros, first create a short test sequence.
- Open the macro section.
- Create a new macro.
- Record several key presses.
- If the program provides this option, configure the required delays.
- Assign the macro to a supported key.
- Apply the changes.
- Check the result in a text editor or another safe application.
After a successful test, you can create more complex sequences.
Configuring the lighting
K636 variants have lighting, but the available configuration methods may differ.
If the software for your model provides lighting control:
- open the corresponding section of the program;
- select an available effect or setting;
- apply the change;
- check the result on the keyboard.
Do not use key combinations from instructions for another K636 variant unless they have been confirmed for your model.
The keyboard works, but the Redragon program does not detect it
This is one of the situations where it is important to distinguish between the system HID driver and the proprietary program.
If K636 types normally, Windows is already communicating with the keyboard. Check the program first.
- Close Redragon Software.
- Check the exact model designation on the underside of the keyboard.
- Compare it with the name of the installed software package.
- Disconnect the keyboard.
- Connect it directly to another USB port on the computer.
- Do not use a USB hub, docking station, or USB switch for testing.
- Wait for Windows to detect the device again.
- Test normal text input.
- Launch the Redragon program again.
Check that the correct program is installed
If the program reports that the device is not connected, compare the full model designation with the installer name.
K636GLR:
Redragon_K636GLR-Software.exe
K636GLR-R / K636LGR-R:
Redragon_K636GLR-R_K636LGR-R_Setup_V1.0_20230724.exe
K636CLO / K636CLO-RGB:
Redragon_K636CLO-RGB_Setup_V1.6.7_20220918.exe
K636LGR-KR:
Redragon_K636LGR-KR_Setup_V1.0_20250506.exe
If the installed program name corresponds to another row, uninstall it and install the correct package.

- Open Settings → Apps → Apps & features.
- Find the Redragon program.
- Select it.
- Click Uninstall.
- Restart the computer.
- Install the correct program for your K636.
The program does not launch
If the keyboard works normally but the program does not open or closes immediately after launch, first reinstall the proprietary software.
- Uninstall the installed Redragon program.
- Restart the computer.
- Identify the exact keyboard model again.
- Download the correct installer from the official website.
- Connect the keyboard directly to a USB port.
- Close other Redragon programs.
- Repeat the installation.
Do not replace a non-working program with a package for another K636 model.
How to check the keyboard in Windows 11
If the keyboard does not work as a normal input device, check it in Device Manager.
- Right-click the Start button.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Keyboards.
- Also check Human Interface Devices.
K636 may appear under a standard system HID keyboard name. The absence of the word Redragon in the name is not an error by itself.
How to check the keyboard in Windows 10
- Right-click the Start button.
- Open Device Manager.
- Check Keyboards.
- Check Human Interface Devices.
If text input works and there are no warning icons next to the devices, reinstalling the standard driver is usually unnecessary.
If the keyboard does not work at all
If Windows does not respond to the connection and K636 does not type even without the Redragon program, the proprietary software should not be the first troubleshooting step.
- Disconnect the keyboard.
- Connect it to another USB port.
- Do not use a USB hub for testing.
- Restart the computer.
- Connect the keyboard again.
- If the problem persists, test it on another computer.
If the keyboard is not detected on another computer either, installing software for another K636 variant usually does not solve the problem.
A yellow icon appears in Device Manager
If you have determined that the error is specifically related to the connected K636, you can make Windows detect the device again.
- Disconnect the keyboard.
- Open Device Manager.
- Find the device with the error associated with K636.
- Right-click it.
- Select Uninstall device.
- Restart the computer.
- After Windows starts, connect the keyboard directly to a USB port again.
Windows should reinstall the standard device components.
Keys started working incorrectly after configuration
If the problem appeared after changing assignments or creating a macro, first check the settings in the Redragon program.
- Launch the program for your K636.
- Find the recently changed assignment.
- Delete or disable the recently created macro.
- Restore the key’s original assignment if the program provides this option.
- Apply the change.
- Test the keyboard in a text editor.
Do not install software for another model as a way to reset the settings.
Settings were not preserved after restarting
You should not assume that all settings for every K636 variant are necessarily stored in the keyboard’s internal memory.
After changing an important setting, check it in sequence:
- apply the change in the program;
- check that it works;
- close the program;
- check the keyboard again;
- restart Windows;
- check whether the result was preserved.
This makes it possible to determine which settings are stored by the keyboard and which may depend on the software being running.
Do not install firmware for another K636
A normal configuration program and device firmware are not the same thing. Installing incorrect firmware may cause the keyboard to be detected incorrectly or stop working properly.
If the program does not detect the device, the lighting works incorrectly, or key assignments changed after configuration, first check that the correct software package is installed and review the settings. Do not proceed to firmware for a related model.
Can Redragon K636 be used without the proprietary program?
Yes. If you only need the keyboard for normal input and you are satisfied with its current settings, you do not need to install the Redragon program.
For basic operation, Windows uses standard HID drivers.
The proprietary software is required only for additional features supported by the specific K636 variant and its software.
