Redragon K636CLO: driver, software, and keyboard setup in Windows 11/10

Last Updated on 18.09.2026 by DriverNew

Redragon K636CLO is a wired mechanical gaming keyboard with a compact 94-key layout, numeric keypad, RGB lighting, and support for key programming and macros. A separate Redragon system driver is not required for normal operation: after connection, Windows uses standard HID drivers.

The proprietary Redragon program is only required for additional keyboard settings.

Important: before installing the program, check the full model designation on the label on the underside of the keyboard. This guide is intended for Redragon K636CLO, also designated by the manufacturer as K636CLO-RGB. Do not use software or firmware for K636GLR, K636GLR-R, K636LGR-KR, or other similar models.

Does Redragon K636CLO need a driver?

A separate Redragon driver is not required for text input, use of the numeric keypad, or normal USB keyboard operation.

  1. Connect the keyboard directly to a USB port on the computer.
  2. Wait a few seconds while Windows detects the device.
  3. Open any text editor.
  4. Test the letter keys, numbers, Enter, Backspace, Space, and the numeric keypad.

If the keyboard works, the standard HID driver has already been installed automatically.

There is no need to install universal keyboard drivers or use third-party driver update programs.

What the Redragon program is used for

The proprietary software is intended for advanced configuration of K636CLO. The model officially supports programmable keys, macros, and RGB lighting configuration.

The Redragon program is an additional utility, not a required system driver.

If you are satisfied with the keyboard’s current settings, installing the program is optional.

Where to download the program for Redragon K636CLO

It is recommended to download the software from the page intended specifically for this model:

Redragon K636CLO Gaming Keyboard software

At the time of verification, the official installer is named:

Redragon_K636CLO-RGB_Setup_V1.6.7_20220918.exe

The verified program version is 1.6.7.

The date included in the installer name is:

2022-09-18

File verification confirms that this is a Windows installer for Redragon software.

In this case, K636CLO and K636CLO-RGB refer to the same model covered by this guide. The presence of -RGB in the official installer name does not mean that software for another keyboard was downloaded.

Software compatibility with Windows 11 and Windows 10

On the Redragon model page for K636CLO-RGB, the supported operating systems listed include earlier versions of Windows up to Windows 10. Windows 11 is not listed separately.

This does not mean that the keyboard does not work in Windows 11. Normal USB keyboard operation is provided by the standard Windows HID driver and does not depend on the proprietary Redragon program.

However, for program version 1.6.7, the manufacturer does not list Windows 11 separately on the model page. Therefore, in Windows 11, it is recommended to first check normal keyboard operation and only then install the additional software.

Installation in Windows 11

  1. Connect K636CLO directly to a USB port on the computer.
  2. Wait for Windows to detect the device.
  3. Test text input without the Redragon program.
  4. Download Redragon_K636CLO-RGB_Setup_V1.6.7_20220918.exe from the official K636CLO page.
  5. Close other Redragon programs intended for keyboard configuration.
  6. Run the installer.
  7. If Windows displays a security warning, first check the file name and download source again.
  8. Follow the steps provided by the installer.
  9. After installation, launch the program while K636CLO is connected.
  10. Check whether the keyboard is detected and whether its settings are available.

If the program does not work in Windows 11 but the keyboard itself types normally, do not reinstall the system HID driver unnecessarily. In this situation, the problem is primarily related to compatibility of the proprietary program.

Installation in Windows 10

  1. Connect K636CLO directly to a USB port on the computer.
  2. Wait a few seconds while Windows installs the standard HID device.
  3. Test normal text input.
  4. Download the official K636CLO installer.
  5. Close other Redragon keyboard management programs.
  6. Run:
    Redragon_K636CLO-RGB_Setup_V1.6.7_20220918.exe
  7. Complete the installation.
  8. Launch the Redragon program while the keyboard is connected.

Windows displays a warning when launching the EXE file

The verified installer does not contain a standard Authenticode digital signature, so Windows may display an additional warning when it is launched.

This is not a reason to disable Microsoft Defender, SmartScreen, or antivirus protection.

If a warning appears:

  1. check that the file was downloaded from the official K636CLO page;
  2. verify its name:
    Redragon_K636CLO-RGB_Setup_V1.6.7_20220918.exe
  3. do not run files with the same name downloaded from unknown websites;
  4. do not disable Windows protection just to install the keyboard program.

First launch of the program

It is recommended to launch the proprietary program only after Windows has already detected the keyboard and normal input works.

  1. Connect K636CLO.
  2. Launch the Redragon program.
  3. Make sure the program has detected the device.
  4. Change only one setting first.
  5. Apply the setting.
  6. Check the result.

It is not recommended to immediately change a large number of assignments or create complex macros. If a problem occurs, step-by-step configuration makes it easier to identify the cause.

Configuring programmable keys

K636CLO supports key programming through the proprietary software.

The exact names of sections and buttons may depend on the program version, so use the interface of the installed version 1.6.7 as your reference.

General configuration procedure:

  1. Launch the program while K636CLO is connected.
  2. Select the key whose assignment you want to change.
  3. Select an available action.
  4. Confirm the change.
  5. Apply the settings.
  6. Check the operation of the key.

For the first test, choose a key whose original assignment can easily be restored.

Creating macros

The K636CLO software supports programmable macros.

It is recommended to create a simple test macro first.

  1. Open the section of the program intended for macros.
  2. Create a new sequence.
  3. Record several key presses.
  4. If necessary, configure the available delays.
  5. Assign the created macro to a supported key.
  6. Apply the changes.
  7. Test the macro in a text editor or another safe application.
Tip: start with a short test macro. After checking that it works, you can create more complex sequences.

Configuring RGB lighting

K636CLO is equipped with RGB lighting. Some of its settings can be changed through the proprietary software.

After launching the program, open the available lighting settings, select the required mode or other supported options, and apply the changes.

Do not use software instructions for another K636 model just because the keyboards or programs look similar.

The program says that the device is not connected

It is possible for the keyboard to work normally in Windows while the Redragon program does not detect it.

If text input works normally, this means that the standard HID driver is already working. There is no need to look for an additional system driver.

Follow these steps:

  1. Close the Redragon program.
  2. Check the keyboard label.
  3. Make sure you have K636CLO/K636CLO-RGB.
  4. Check that the K636CLO version is installed, not software for K636GLR or K636GLR-R.
  5. Disconnect the keyboard.
  6. Connect it directly to another USB port on the computer.
  7. Do not use a USB hub or docking station for testing.
  8. Wait for Windows to detect the device again.
  9. Launch the program again.

Check whether software for another model is installed

The K636 family includes several similar keyboards, but their software should not be considered interchangeable.

For K636CLO, use:

Redragon_K636CLO-RGB_Setup_V1.6.7_20220918.exe

Do not use installers whose names contain:

K636GLR
K636GLR-R
K636LGR-R
K636LGR-KR

If the wrong program is already installed, uninstall it before installing the K636CLO package.

Windows 11

  1. Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
  2. Find the Redragon program.
  3. Click the three-dot button next to it.
  4. Select Uninstall.
  5. Restart the computer.
  6. Connect K636CLO and test normal input.
  7. Install the correct version 1.6.7 program.

Windows 10

  1. Open Settings → Apps → Apps & features.
  2. Find the installed Redragon program.
  3. Click Uninstall.
  4. Restart the computer.
  5. Install the program for K636CLO.

Do not install firmware for other K636 models

Especially important: do not use firmware or firmware update utilities intended for another K636 variant, even if the keyboards look identical.

Firmware operates at a lower level than ordinary configuration software. Incompatible firmware may cause the device to stop being detected or functioning correctly.

If there is a problem with lighting, macros, or device detection, do not try to fix it using firmware for K636GLR, K636GLR-R, or another similar model.

The keyboard works, but the program does not launch

If K636CLO works normally as an input device but the program does not open or closes after launch, there is no need to reinstall the standard HID driver first.

Try reinstalling the proprietary program itself:

  1. Uninstall the Redragon program.
  2. Restart Windows.
  3. Download the official K636CLO installer again.
  4. Connect the keyboard directly to a USB port.
  5. Close other Redragon programs.
  6. Repeat the installation.

In Windows 11, keep in mind that the proprietary software was released earlier and Windows 11 is not listed separately by the manufacturer for this version.

How to check the keyboard in Windows 11

  1. Right-click the Start button.
  2. Open Device Manager.
  3. Expand Keyboards.
  4. Also check Human Interface Devices.

K636CLO may appear under a standard HID keyboard name. The absence of the word Redragon in the device name does not mean that the wrong driver is installed.

If the keyboard types and there is no warning icon next to the device, basic Windows operation is configured correctly.

How to check the keyboard in Windows 10

  1. Right-click the Start button.
  2. Select Device Manager.
  3. Open Keyboards and Human Interface Devices.
  4. Check for warning icons.

If the device works normally, a separate Redragon system driver is not required.

If the keyboard does not work at all

If even normal text input does not work after connecting K636CLO, do not start by installing the proprietary program. Check the physical USB connection first.

  1. Disconnect the keyboard from the computer.
  2. Connect it to another USB port.
  3. Do not use a USB hub.
  4. Restart the computer.
  5. Connect the keyboard again.
  6. If the problem persists, test it on another computer.

If the keyboard is not detected on another computer either, installing another version of the Redragon program usually does not solve this problem.

A yellow icon appears in Device Manager

If the error appears specifically for the device associated with K636CLO, you can make Windows detect it again.

  1. Disconnect the keyboard.
  2. Open Device Manager.
  3. Find the device with the error that is associated with the K636CLO connection.
  4. Right-click it.
  5. Select Uninstall device.
  6. Restart the computer.
  7. After Windows starts, connect the keyboard directly to a USB port.

Windows should reinstall the standard device component.

Do not uninstall random HID devices. This section may display a mouse, keyboard, multimedia buttons, and other devices. Remove an entry only after you have determined that it is associated with the problematic K636CLO.

Keys started working incorrectly after configuration

If the problem appeared after changing assignments or macros, first check the program settings.

  1. Open the Redragon program for K636CLO.
  2. Find the recently changed assignments.
  3. Delete or disable the created macro.
  4. Restore the changed key to its original function if the program allows it.
  5. Apply the changes.
  6. Test the keyboard in a text editor.

Do not install software or firmware for another model as a way to reset the settings.

Settings changed after restarting

You should not automatically assume that all program settings are necessarily stored in the keyboard’s internal memory.

After changing important settings, it is recommended to check them in sequence:

  1. apply the setting;
  2. check that it works;
  3. close the program;
  4. check the keyboard again;
  5. restart the computer;
  6. check whether the result was preserved.

This makes it possible to determine which settings work independently of the program and which require it to be running.

Can Redragon K636CLO be used without the program?

Yes. The proprietary program is not required for normal use.

Windows automatically uses the standard HID driver, so the keyboard should work as a normal input device without installing Redragon Software.

Program version 1.6.7 is only required when you need to use supported advanced functions: key programming, macros, and additional RGB lighting settings.
