Redragon K636GLR is a wired gaming keyboard with a compact 94-key layout and support for programmable functions. A separate Redragon system driver is not required for normal operation in Windows. After connection, Windows detects the keyboard as an HID device and uses the standard operating system driver.
The proprietary Redragon program is required for additional settings, including supported programmable functions and macros.
Do you need to install a driver for Redragon K636GLR?
A special Redragon driver is not required for text input and normal keyboard operation.
- Connect the keyboard directly to a USB port on the computer.
- Wait a few seconds while Windows detects the device.
- Open any text editor.
- Test the letter keys, numbers, Enter, Backspace, Space, and other main keys.
If the keyboard types and the main keys work, the standard driver has already been installed automatically by Windows.
There is no need to look for a separate universal keyboard driver, install drivers for another Redragon model, or use third-party driver update programs.
What the Redragon program is used for
The proprietary software is an additional configuration utility, not a required system driver.
For K636GLR, the manufacturer specifies support for programmable macro editing. Other settings provided for this keyboard may also be available in the program. The available settings should be determined directly from the installed K636GLR program, not from the interface of programs for similar models.
If advanced settings are not required, the keyboard can be used without installing the proprietary program.
Where to download the program for Redragon K636GLR
It is recommended to download the software from the page intended specifically for K636GLR:
Redragon K636GLR Gaming Keyboard software
At the time of verification, this page provides the following installer:
Redragon_K636GLR-Software.exe
Verification of this installer confirms that it is a Redragon program for Windows. This EXE file is not required for normal keyboard operation — it should only be installed when additional configuration functions are needed.
Redragon_K636GLR-Software.exe file obtained from the K636GLR page.Preparing to install the program
Before installation, it is recommended to first make sure that the keyboard itself works correctly without the proprietary program.
- Connect K636GLR directly to a USB port on the computer.
- Wait for Windows to install the standard HID device.
- Test text input.
- Close Redragon programs intended for other keyboards or mice if they are running.
- If software for K636GLR-R, K636CLO, K636LGR-KR, or another similar keyboard was previously installed and is not needed for a separate device, it is recommended to uninstall it before installing the K636GLR program.
For the initial test, it is better to connect the keyboard directly to the computer without using a USB hub, docking station, USB switch, or long extension cable.

- Follow the installer steps until the installation is complete.
- After installation, launch the Redragon program while K636GLR is connected.
During the initial installation, it is recommended not to connect several similar Redragon keyboards at the same time. This makes it easier to verify whether the program correctly detects K636GLR specifically.
If Windows shows a warning when launching the installer
The verified K636GLR installer may not contain a publisher digital signature, so Windows or Microsoft Defender SmartScreen may display an additional warning.
In this situation, you should not disable SmartScreen or Windows protection.
- Close the warning if the file was obtained from an unknown source.
- Download the installer again from the official K636GLR page.
- Make sure the file name matches:
Redragon_K636GLR-Software.exe
- Only after verifying the source should you continue the installation if Windows provides this option.
It is not recommended to disable antivirus protection to install keyboard software.
First launch of the program
Launch the program while K636GLR is connected.
After opening the program, first make sure it has detected the keyboard and allows you to change the available settings. Do not start by changing a large number of settings at the same time.
It is more convenient to use the following sequence:
- Open the program.
- Select one function that you need to change.
- Change only one setting or one key assignment.
- Save or apply the change using the command provided in the program.
- Check the result on the keyboard.
- After a successful test, proceed to the next settings.
Section and button names may depend on the program version. Do not use instructions for another keyboard just because the program looks similar.
How to create and test macros
K636GLR supports programmable macro editing through the proprietary software.
When configuring a macro, it is recommended to first create a short test sequence. This allows you to verify whether the program correctly transfers the setting to the keyboard.
- Open the section intended for macros in the program.
- Create a new macro.
- Record a short key sequence.
- If necessary, configure the available delays between actions.
- Assign the macro to a supported key.
- Apply the change.
- Test the macro in a safe application, such as a text editor.
Only after testing a short macro is it recommended to create more complex sequences.
The Redragon program does not detect the keyboard
It is possible that K636GLR types normally in Windows, but the proprietary program reports that no supported device was found or does not provide configuration options.
If normal input works, this usually means that the standard Windows HID driver is already installed. Reinstalling the keyboard driver should not be the first step in this situation.
Follow these steps:
- Close the Redragon program.
- Check the label on the underside of the keyboard. It should say K636GLR.
- Make sure the installed program came from the
Redragon_K636GLR-Software.exefile. - Disconnect the keyboard from USB.
- Connect it directly to another USB port on the computer.
- Wait a few seconds.
- Test normal text input.
- Launch the program again.
If a USB hub or docking station is being used, temporarily remove it from the connection for troubleshooting.
Check whether software for K636GLR-R is installed
K636GLR and K636GLR-R have very similar designations, so it is easy to download the wrong installer.
If the file name you used contains:
K636GLR-R K636LGR-R
this is not the package that was verified for K636GLR without the -R suffix.

- Install
Redragon_K636GLR-Software.exe.
Windows 10
- Open Settings → Apps → Apps & features.
- Find the Redragon program.
- Select it.

The general Redragon catalog offers a different file
Redragon has both separate model pages and a general download catalog. For the K636 family, it contains several similar entries.
If a search for K636GLR offers an installer whose name contains K636GLR-R, do not install it automatically.
For K636GLR without -R, open the separate page for this model and use:
Redragon_K636GLR-Software.exe
This approach reduces the risk of installing software for a neighboring variant.
The keyboard works, but the program does not launch after installation
If normal text input works but the program does not open or closes immediately, the problem is not related to a missing standard keyboard driver.
Try a clean reinstallation of the program.
- Uninstall the Redragon program through the Windows Apps section.
- Restart the computer.
- Delete the previously downloaded copy of the installer if you are unsure of its source.
- Download
Redragon_K636GLR-Software.exeagain from the official K636GLR page. - Connect the keyboard directly to a USB port.
- Close other Redragon keyboard management programs.
- Repeat the installation.
How to check the keyboard in Windows 11
If you are unsure whether Windows detects the device, open Device Manager.
- Right-click the Start button.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Keyboards.
- Also check Human Interface Devices.
A USB keyboard may appear under a standard system name. The absence of the word Redragon in the device name is not an error by itself.
If text input works and there are no warning icons next to the devices, there is no need to look for a separate HID driver.
How to check the keyboard in Windows 10
- Right-click the Start button.
- Open Device Manager.
- Check Keyboards.
- Check Human Interface Devices.
If the keyboard works as an input device, the standard Windows driver is already doing its job.
If K636GLR does not work at all after connection
If the keyboard does not type and Windows does not respond when it is connected, installing the proprietary program should not be the first step. First, check the USB connection.
- Disconnect the keyboard.
- Connect it to another USB port on the computer.
- Do not use a USB hub or docking station for testing.
- Restart the computer and reconnect the keyboard.
- If the problem persists, test the keyboard on another computer.
If K636GLR is not detected on another computer either, installing a different version of the Redragon program usually does not solve this problem.
A yellow warning icon appears in Device Manager
If Windows detects an error specifically for the device that appears when K636GLR is connected, you can make the operating system detect it again.
- Disconnect the keyboard.
- Open Device Manager.
- Find the device associated with the problematic connection.
- Right-click it.
- Select Uninstall device.
- Restart Windows.
- After the system starts, connect K636GLR directly to a USB port.
Windows will reinstall the standard system component for the device.
Keys work incorrectly after installing the program
If the problem appeared specifically after changing key assignments or creating a macro, first check the settings in the proprietary program.
- Open the K636GLR program.
- Check the modified key assignments.
- Disable or delete the recently created macro.
- Restore the modified key to its normal assignment if the program allows you to do so.
- Apply the changes.
- Test the keyboard in a text editor.
Do not install software for another model as a way to reset the settings.
Settings are different after restarting the computer
If some settings differ from the saved values after a restart, first launch the proprietary program and check whether the required set of parameters is selected.
You should not automatically assume that all settings are necessarily stored in the keyboard’s internal memory. The behavior of a specific function depends on the capabilities of K636GLR and the installed program.
Therefore, after each important setting, it is recommended to:
- apply the change in the program;
- check keyboard operation;
- close the program;
- check the setting again;
- if necessary, restart Windows and check whether the result was preserved.
Can Redragon K636GLR be used without the proprietary program?
Yes. A separate Redragon program is not required for normal operation. Windows uses the standard HID driver.
The proprietary program only needs to be installed when supported additional settings are required, such as key programming or macros.
If you are satisfied with the keyboard’s current settings, you do not need to install additional software.
