Redragon K636GLR-R is a wired mechanical keyboard with a compact 94-key layout, RGB lighting, and support for key programming and macros. A separate Redragon driver is not required for normal text input: after the keyboard is connected, Windows automatically uses standard HID drivers.
A separate Redragon program is only required for advanced keyboard configuration.
Does Redragon K636GLR-R need a driver?
A special Redragon system driver is not required for basic keyboard operation.
- Connect the included USB cable to the keyboard’s USB-C port.
- Connect the other end of the cable directly to a USB port on the computer.
- Wait a few seconds while Windows detects the new device.
- Open any text editor and test text input, the numeric keypad, and the main keys.
If the keyboard works, there is no need to look for a separate driver on the Internet or install drivers for another model.
The Windows driver and the Redragon program are separate components. The standard HID driver provides normal keyboard operation. The Redragon program is intended for changing additional settings.
Redragon K636GLR-R software
Separate Windows software is available for K636GLR-R. It can be downloaded from the manufacturer’s page:
Redragon K636GLR-R Gaming Keyboard software
The verified archive is named:
Redragon_K636GLR-R_K636LGR-R_Setup_V1.0_20230724.zip
It contains the following installer:
Redragon K636GLR-R K636LGR-R Setup V1.0 20230724.exe
What the Redragon program is used for
The proprietary program is used for additional keyboard functions, including configuring supported key assignments, macros, profiles, and RGB lighting.
If you do not need these functions, installing the program is optional. The keyboard should continue to work as a standard input device through the standard Windows HID driver.
How to install the program in Windows 11 and Windows 10
- Make sure you are using Redragon K636GLR-R.
- Connect the keyboard directly to a USB port on the computer.
- First check that Windows detects the keyboard and that it types without the Redragon program installed.
- Download the software archive from the K636GLR-R page.
- Fully extract the ZIP archive to a separate folder. Do not run the installer directly from the ZIP archive window.
- Open the extracted folder.
- Run:
Redragon K636GLR-R K636LGR-R Setup V1.0 20230724.exe
- Confirm the installer launch if Windows asks for permission.
- Follow the steps provided by the installer.
- After the installation is complete, launch the Redragon program while the keyboard is connected.
If the program detects the device immediately, you can proceed to configure keys, macros, and lighting.
Windows 11: how to check whether the keyboard is detected
If there is no response after connection or the Redragon program does not detect the device, first check whether Windows itself detects the keyboard.
- Right-click the Start button.
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Keyboards.
- Also check Human Interface Devices.
It is normal for a USB keyboard to appear as a standard HID device. A standard device name instead of Redragon K636GLR-R does not by itself indicate an incorrect installation.
Windows 10: how to check the keyboard
- Right-click the Start button.
- Select Device Manager.
- Check Keyboards and Human Interface Devices.
- If there is no yellow warning icon next to the devices and the keyboard types, the system driver is installed correctly.
There is no need to download additional universal keyboard drivers.
The Redragon program reports that the keyboard is not connected
One of the most common problems with gaming keyboard software is that Windows detects the device and text input works, but the proprietary program reports that no supported device was found.
First, check the exact model designation.
K636GLR-R, K636GLR, K636CLO, and K636LGR-KR should not automatically be treated as the same model. The Redragon download page provides separate software packages for some of them.
If you have K636GLR-R, follow these steps:
- Close the Redragon program.
- Disconnect the keyboard.
- Connect it directly to another USB port on the computer, without using a USB hub, docking station, or extension cable.
- Wait for Windows to detect the device again.
- Test text input.
- Launch the Redragon program again.
If Redragon programs for other keyboards are installed, temporarily close them. Using several utilities for different models at the same time is not recommended.
What to do if software for another K636 model is installed
If software for K636GLR, K636CLO, K636LGR-KR, or another model was previously installed and it does not detect K636GLR-R, uninstall the incorrect program.
Windows 11
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Find the previously installed Redragon program.
- Click the three-dot button next to it.
- Select Uninstall.
- Restart the computer.
- Connect K636GLR-R and check normal keyboard operation.
- Install the program intended specifically for K636GLR-R.
Windows 10
- Open Settings → Apps → Apps & features.
- Find the installed Redragon program.
- Select it and click Uninstall.
- After uninstalling it, restart the computer.
- Install the correct program for K636GLR-R.
The keyboard works, but the Redragon program does not launch
If the keyboard types, the problem is not caused by a missing Windows HID driver. Check the installation of the proprietary program itself.
- Uninstall the installed Redragon program.
- Restart Windows.
- Extract the original ZIP archive again to a normal folder.
- Make sure you are running the file for K636GLR-R/K636LGR-R, not an installer for another model.
- Repeat the installation.
It is not recommended to download modified versions of the program from unknown websites just to resolve a device detection error.
If Redragon K636GLR-R does not work at all in Windows
If even normal text input does not work after connection, do not start by reinstalling the Redragon program. The proprietary program is not a driver required for basic keyboard operation.
Check the connection:
- Disconnect the USB-C cable at both ends and reconnect it.
- Try another USB port on the computer.
- Do not use a USB hub for testing.
- If you have a suitable known-good USB cable that supports data transfer, test the keyboard with it.
- Connect the keyboard to another computer.
If the device does not work on another computer either, the problem is unlikely to be caused by a Windows software installation error.
If a yellow icon appears in Device Manager
If there is a USB device detection error, you can make Windows detect the device again.
- Disconnect the keyboard.
- Open Device Manager.
- Find the device with the warning icon that appears when K636GLR-R is connected.
- Right-click it and select Uninstall device.
- Restart the computer.
- After Windows starts, reconnect the keyboard directly to a USB port.
Windows should reinstall the standard device driver.
Configuring keys, macros, and lighting
After proper installation, the Redragon program provides access to the advanced features of K636GLR-R. Depending on the selected function, you can change supported key assignments, create macros, work with profiles, and configure RGB lighting.
Before changing a large number of settings, it is recommended to test one setting first. For example, change one supported setting, apply it, and make sure the keyboard responds correctly. You can then continue configuring the remaining functions.
If the result after changing settings differs from what you expected, do not install software for a similar model. First restore the settings in the K636GLR-R program or reapply the required profile.
Can K636GLR-R be used without the Redragon program?
Yes. The program is only required for supported additional settings. Normal typing and standard keyboard operation use the system HID driver.
Therefore, if you are completely satisfied with the keyboard’s factory settings, you do not need to install the Redragon program.
Using the keyboard with macOS and Linux
K636GLR-R itself can be used as a standard USB keyboard with other supported operating systems. However, the proprietary software download for this model on the Redragon page is intended for Windows.
Therefore, you should not expect all configuration functions available through the Windows program to be available in macOS or Linux.
