Redragon K629-RGB Phantom is a wired 84-key mechanical keyboard with USB-C connectivity and RGB lighting. A separate proprietary Redragon driver is not required for normal operation in Windows. After the keyboard is connected, the operating system automatically uses the standard HID keyboard driver.
For more advanced configuration, the official Redragon K629-RGB Setup V1.6.6 software is available. It is an additional utility and is required only for supported software-based settings. Built-in RGB modes, brightness, effect speed, and the Windows key lock can be controlled directly from the keyboard.
Does the Redragon K629-RGB need a driver?
A separate Redragon driver is not required for basic operation.
- Connect the USB-C cable to the keyboard.
- Connect the other end of the cable directly to a USB port on the computer.
- Wait a few seconds.
- Windows will automatically detect the keyboard and install the standard HID driver.
- Open a text editor and test typing.
If the keys work, there is no need to search for or install an additional system driver.
K629-RGB Setup V1.6.6 does not replace the standard Windows HID driver. It is intended for additional keyboard settings.
Official K629-RGB software
The software can be downloaded from the official Redragon page:
At the time of verification, the official archive is named:

Despite the date in the filename, this is the package Redragon continues to distribute for the standard K629-RGB.
Redragon_K629RGB_DE_Setup_V1.6.6_20241106.exe. These installers are not identical. How to install K629-RGB Setup V1.6.6

If Windows displays “Windows protected your PC” and you are sure you are using the official K629-RGB file, click “More info”, then “Run anyway”.
Can K629-RGB be used without the software?

What the proprietary software is used for
The official K629-RGB software is intended for more advanced keyboard configuration.
Depending on the functions available for the specific version, the software can be used for:
- supported key assignments;
- macros;
- profiles;
- RGB lighting and additional effect settings.
If the built-in RGB modes and standard keyboard functions are sufficient, installing the software is optional.
If the Redragon software does not detect K629-RGB
The keyboard may work normally in Windows while the proprietary software does not detect the device.
- Make sure the installed software is specifically for K629-RGB.
- Do not use K629-RGB-DE Software for the standard K629-RGB.
- Do not use software for other Redragon keyboards.
- Connect the keyboard directly to a USB port on the computer.
- Do not use a USB hub or docking station during testing.
- Try another USB port.
- Check the USB-C cable and make sure it is fully inserted into the keyboard connector.
- Close the Redragon software and launch it again.
- Restart Windows.
If the keys type incorrect characters after installing the software
Do not install software for other Redragon models “to test compatibility.” Utilities for programmable keyboards can change key assignments and save device settings.
If, after installing incompatible software, the keys start entering incorrect characters, launching commands, or performing unexpected actions:
- Close the Redragon software.
- Uninstall the software intended for another model.
- Disconnect K629-RGB from the computer.
- Reconnect the keyboard.
- Perform a hardware reset using FN + ESC.
- Restart Windows.
- After the system starts, first test the keyboard without the proprietary software.
- Open a text editor and test letters, numbers, and the main function keys.
- Only after normal operation has been restored, install the official K629-RGB Setup V1.6.6 if necessary.
Removing the wrong software in Windows 11
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Find the Redragon software intended for another keyboard.
- Open the menu next to the software name.
- Select Uninstall.
- Complete the uninstallation.
- Restart Windows.
- Perform FN + ESC on K629-RGB and test it without the software.
Removing the wrong software in Windows 10
- Open Settings → Apps → Apps & features.
- Find the incompatible Redragon software.
- Select it and click Uninstall.
- Complete the uninstallation.
- Restart Windows.
- Perform FN + ESC and test the keyboard.
Removing the proprietary software does not remove the standard Windows HID keyboard driver.
If the keyboard disconnects intermittently
K629-RGB uses a detachable USB-C cable, so if it disconnects intermittently, check more than just the software.
- Insert the USB-C plug firmly into the keyboard.
- Connect the other end of the cable directly to the computer.
- Try another USB port.
- Do not use a USB hub or extension cable for testing.
- If you have a suitable known-good data cable, test the keyboard with it.
- Test K629-RGB on another computer.
If the keyboard disconnects on several computers and with a known-good cable, installing another version of the software usually will not fix the problem.
If Windows does not detect K629-RGB at all
If the lighting and keys do not work or Windows does not respond when the keyboard is connected:
- Disconnect the keyboard.
- Reconnect the USB-C cable to the keyboard.
- Connect the cable to another USB port on the computer.
- Do not use a USB hub.
- Restart Windows.
- If possible, test the keyboard on another computer.
If K629-RGB works on another computer, you can force Windows to detect the HID device again.
Re-detecting the keyboard in Windows
- Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
- Expand Keyboards.
- If several identical HID keyboards are listed, do not remove all of them.
- Disconnect K629-RGB from USB and identify which entry disappears.
- Reconnect the keyboard and make sure that entry appears again.
- Right-click the specifically identified device.
- Select Uninstall device.
- Disconnect the keyboard for a few seconds.
- Connect it again.
Windows will automatically reinstall the standard HID driver.
If the keyboard is not detected even on another computer, installing K629-RGB Setup V1.6.6 or other Redragon software will usually not solve the problem. In this case, check the USB-C cable, the connector, and the keyboard itself.
Using third-party software for RGB
Third-party RGB control programs are available for K629-RGB, but they should be used with caution.
