Redragon K629-RGB Phantom: driver, software, RGB lighting, and keyboard configuration

Last Updated on 13.09.2026 by DriverNew

Redragon K629-RGB Phantom is a wired 84-key mechanical keyboard with USB-C connectivity and RGB lighting. A separate proprietary Redragon driver is not required for normal operation in Windows. After the keyboard is connected, the operating system automatically uses the standard HID keyboard driver.

For more advanced configuration, the official Redragon K629-RGB Setup V1.6.6 software is available. It is an additional utility and is required only for supported software-based settings. Built-in RGB modes, brightness, effect speed, and the Windows key lock can be controlled directly from the keyboard.

Important: install software specifically for K629-RGB. For the German K629-RGB-DE version, Redragon distributes a separate installer. The newer file date of K629-RGB-DE does not mean that it should be used for the standard K629-RGB.

Does the Redragon K629-RGB need a driver?

A separate Redragon driver is not required for basic operation.

  1. Connect the USB-C cable to the keyboard.
  2. Connect the other end of the cable directly to a USB port on the computer.
  3. Wait a few seconds.
  4. Windows will automatically detect the keyboard and install the standard HID driver.
  5. Open a text editor and test typing.

If the keys work, there is no need to search for or install an additional system driver.

K629-RGB Setup V1.6.6 does not replace the standard Windows HID driver. It is intended for additional keyboard settings.

Official K629-RGB software

The software can be downloaded from the official Redragon page:

Redragon K629-RGB Software

At the time of verification, the official archive is named:

Redragon_K629-RGB_Software.zip

It contains the installer:

K629-RGB Setup V1.6.6 20220820.exe

Despite the date in the filename, this is the package Redragon continues to distribute for the standard K629-RGB.

Do not install K629-RGB-DE Setup instead of the standard K629-RGB software. For the German layout, Redragon provides the separate file Redragon_K629RGB_DE_Setup_V1.6.6_20241106.exe. These installers are not identical.

How to install K629-RGB Setup V1.6.6

  1. Download Redragon_K629-RGB_Software.zip from the official Redragon page.
  2. Extract the ZIP archive completely.
  3. Connect K629-RGB directly to a USB port on the computer.
  4. Close other Redragon keyboard configuration programs.
  5. Run K629-RGB Setup V1.6.6 20220820.exe.
  6. Complete the installation.
  7. Launch the software and check whether the keyboard is detected.

For normal text input, there is no need to install the software in advance. It is recommended to first test the keyboard without the proprietary software and install the utility only if additional settings are required.

Microsoft Defender SmartScreen warning

The verified K629-RGB V1.6.6 installer does not have a modern Authenticode digital signature. Therefore, Windows 10 or Windows 11 may display a Microsoft Defender SmartScreen warning.

Continue with the installation only if the file was downloaded directly from the official Redragon page for K629-RGB. The absence of a digital signature does not by itself mean that the official file is malicious, but it is not recommended to install a similarly named EXE file from an unknown source.

If Windows displays “Windows protected your PC” and you are sure you are using the official K629-RGB file, click “More info”, then “Run anyway”.

Can K629-RGB be used without the software?

Yes. The proprietary software is not required for most basic functions.

Without K629-RGB Setup, you can:

  • type and use the keyboard in games;
  • switch between built-in RGB effects;
  • adjust the lighting brightness;
  • change the speed of dynamic effects;
  • turn the lighting off and on;
  • lock the Windows key;
  • use multimedia keyboard shortcuts;
  • restore the hardware settings to their defaults.

Controlling RGB lighting without software

K629-RGB has built-in RGB lighting modes. They are controlled using shortcuts with the FN key.

Shortcut Function
FN + PgDn Switches between built-in RGB effects.
FN + ↑ Increases brightness.
FN + ↓ Decreases brightness.
FN + → Increases the speed of the dynamic effect.
FN + ← Decreases the speed of the dynamic effect.
FN + Space Turns the lighting off or on.

The keyboard supports up to 20 built-in RGB lighting effects. They can be switched without installing software.

If the lighting suddenly turns off: first press FN + Space, then press FN + ↑ several times. The lighting may have been turned off or the brightness may have been reduced.

Resetting K629-RGB settings

If the keyboard does not work correctly after changing the lighting, key assignments, or using the software, first perform a hardware reset.

Press:

FN + ESC

After the reset, test the keyboard in a regular text editor before launching the proprietary software.

Locking the Windows key

For gaming mode, you can lock the Windows key:

FN + WIN

Pressing it again unlocks the key.

If the Windows key suddenly stops opening the Start menu, first press FN + WIN. There is no need to install or reinstall the driver for this.

Multimedia keyboard shortcuts

Shortcut Function
FN + F1 Open This PC.
FN + F2 Open the home page.
FN + F3 Open Calculator.
FN + F4 Open the media player.
FN + F5 Previous track.
FN + F6 Next track.
FN + F7 Play / pause.
FN + F8 Stop playback.
FN + F9 Mute or unmute.
FN + F10 Decrease volume.
FN + F11 Increase volume.
FN + F12 Open the email app.

The result of launching individual applications depends on Windows settings and the programs selected as defaults.

What the proprietary software is used for

The official K629-RGB software is intended for more advanced keyboard configuration.

Depending on the functions available for the specific version, the software can be used for:

  • supported key assignments;
  • macros;
  • profiles;
  • RGB lighting and additional effect settings.

If the built-in RGB modes and standard keyboard functions are sufficient, installing the software is optional.

If the Redragon software does not detect K629-RGB

The keyboard may work normally in Windows while the proprietary software does not detect the device.

  1. Make sure the installed software is specifically for K629-RGB.
  2. Do not use K629-RGB-DE Software for the standard K629-RGB.
  3. Do not use software for other Redragon keyboards.
  4. Connect the keyboard directly to a USB port on the computer.
  5. Do not use a USB hub or docking station during testing.
  6. Try another USB port.
  7. Check the USB-C cable and make sure it is fully inserted into the keyboard connector.
  8. Close the Redragon software and launch it again.
  9. Restart Windows.
If K629-RGB types normally but the software does not detect it, the standard Windows driver is already working. There is no need to reinstall the HID driver as the first troubleshooting step. First check that you are using the correct proprietary software and verify the USB connection.

If the keys type incorrect characters after installing the software

Do not install software for other Redragon models “to test compatibility.” Utilities for programmable keyboards can change key assignments and save device settings.

If, after installing incompatible software, the keys start entering incorrect characters, launching commands, or performing unexpected actions:

  1. Close the Redragon software.
  2. Uninstall the software intended for another model.
  3. Disconnect K629-RGB from the computer.
  4. Reconnect the keyboard.
  5. Perform a hardware reset using FN + ESC.
  6. Restart Windows.
  7. After the system starts, first test the keyboard without the proprietary software.
  8. Open a text editor and test letters, numbers, and the main function keys.
  9. Only after normal operation has been restored, install the official K629-RGB Setup V1.6.6 if necessary.
Do not start by removing multiple HID keyboards in Device Manager. If the problem appeared immediately after using incompatible Redragon software, first uninstall that software and perform a hardware reset of K629-RGB.

Removing the wrong software in Windows 11

  1. Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
  2. Find the Redragon software intended for another keyboard.
  3. Open the menu next to the software name.
  4. Select Uninstall.
  5. Complete the uninstallation.
  6. Restart Windows.
  7. Perform FN + ESC on K629-RGB and test it without the software.

Removing the wrong software in Windows 10

  1. Open Settings → Apps → Apps & features.
  2. Find the incompatible Redragon software.
  3. Select it and click Uninstall.
  4. Complete the uninstallation.
  5. Restart Windows.
  6. Perform FN + ESC and test the keyboard.

Removing the proprietary software does not remove the standard Windows HID keyboard driver.

If the keyboard disconnects intermittently

K629-RGB uses a detachable USB-C cable, so if it disconnects intermittently, check more than just the software.

  1. Insert the USB-C plug firmly into the keyboard.
  2. Connect the other end of the cable directly to the computer.
  3. Try another USB port.
  4. Do not use a USB hub or extension cable for testing.
  5. If you have a suitable known-good data cable, test the keyboard with it.
  6. Test K629-RGB on another computer.

If the keyboard disconnects on several computers and with a known-good cable, installing another version of the software usually will not fix the problem.

If Windows does not detect K629-RGB at all

If the lighting and keys do not work or Windows does not respond when the keyboard is connected:

  1. Disconnect the keyboard.
  2. Reconnect the USB-C cable to the keyboard.
  3. Connect the cable to another USB port on the computer.
  4. Do not use a USB hub.
  5. Restart Windows.
  6. If possible, test the keyboard on another computer.

If K629-RGB works on another computer, you can force Windows to detect the HID device again.

Re-detecting the keyboard in Windows

  1. Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Keyboards.
  3. If several identical HID keyboards are listed, do not remove all of them.
  4. Disconnect K629-RGB from USB and identify which entry disappears.
  5. Reconnect the keyboard and make sure that entry appears again.
  6. Right-click the specifically identified device.
  7. Select Uninstall device.
  8. Disconnect the keyboard for a few seconds.
  9. Connect it again.

Windows will automatically reinstall the standard HID driver.

If the keyboard is not detected even on another computer, installing K629-RGB Setup V1.6.6 or other Redragon software will usually not solve the problem. In this case, check the USB-C cable, the connector, and the keyboard itself.

Using third-party software for RGB

Third-party RGB control programs are available for K629-RGB, but they should be used with caution.

Do not use software for other Redragon keyboards or third-party tools with unverified compatibility just for experimentation. Different Redragon devices may have similar hardware identifiers but use different control commands. For configuring K629-RGB, it is safer to first use the built-in keyboard shortcuts or the official software specifically for this model.
