Redragon K681-SP / K681SP-RGB-PRO Gaming Keyboard: driver, software, Bluetooth, 2.4 GHz, and RGB lighting

Redragon K681-SP / K681SP-RGB-PRO is a 75% wireless mechanical keyboard with USB-C, 2.4 GHz, and Bluetooth connectivity. A separate proprietary Redragon driver is not required for normal operation. After the keyboard is connected, Windows automatically uses the standard HID keyboard driver.

For advanced configuration, official Redragon software version 2.0 is available. It is designed for remapping supported keys, creating macros, working with profiles, and more detailed RGB lighting configuration. The software does not need to be installed for connecting the keyboard and normal text input.

Important: K681-SP belongs to the same software family as K681MG-RGB-PRO. The verified K681SP-RGB-PRO Setup V2.0 and K681MG-RGB-PRO Setup V2.0 installers are completely identical. Therefore, using the common V2.0 software for K681-SP is normal and does not mean that software for the wrong model has been downloaded.

Does the Redragon K681-SP need a driver?

A separate Redragon driver is not required for basic operation.

This applies to all main connection methods:

  • wired connection via USB-C;
  • 2.4 GHz wireless connection;
  • Bluetooth.

After a successful connection, Windows automatically detects the keyboard as an HID device and installs the required system components.

If the keyboard types normally, there is no need to search for or install an additional system driver.

The Redragon software is an additional configuration utility and does not replace the standard Windows HID driver.

Official K681-SP software

It is recommended to download the software through the official Redragon download center:

The verified version for K681-SP was distributed under the following name:

Redragon_K681SP-RGB-PRO_Setup_v2.0_20240429.exe

The software version is 2.0.

Testing showed that this installer is completely identical to Redragon_K681MG-RGB-PRO_Setup_v2.0_20240429.exe. This is because the K681-SP and K681MG-RGB-PRO variants use the same software platform.

Do not install software for just any other K681 model simply because the name is similar. Redragon has separate regional and hardware variants, including K681GB-PRO-DE. For your K681-SP, go to the download through the page specifically for this model.

K681-SP feature: side-printed key legends

One of the features of K681-SP is Side Printed Keycaps — the legends are printed on the sides of the keycaps.

This is a design feature of this version and does not affect driver installation, Bluetooth operation, 2.4 GHz connectivity, or compatibility with the V2.0 software.

How to install the Redragon software

  1. First connect the keyboard and make sure it works normally without the proprietary software.
  2. Download the software through the official K681-SP page.
  3. For initial configuration, it is recommended to connect the keyboard via USB-C.
  4. Close any Redragon software intended for other keyboards.
  5. Run the K681-SP V2.0 installer.
  6. Complete the installation.
  7. Launch the software and check whether the keyboard is detected.

If you only need normal text input, wireless connectivity, and built-in RGB effects, you do not need to install the software.

Microsoft Defender SmartScreen warning

The verified K681-SP Setup V2.0 installer does not have an Authenticode digital signature. Therefore, Windows 10 or Windows 11 may display a Microsoft Defender SmartScreen warning or an unknown publisher message.

Continue with the installation only if the file was downloaded directly from the official Redragon page for K681-SP. It is not recommended to bypass the SmartScreen warning for a file obtained from an unknown source.

If Windows displays “Windows protected your PC” and you are sure you are using the official installer, click “More info”, then “Run anyway”.

Wired USB-C connection

Wired mode is convenient for initial keyboard testing, charging, and diagnosing wireless connection problems.

  1. Set the keyboard switch to OFF.
  2. Connect the USB-C cable to the keyboard.
  3. Connect the other end of the cable directly to a USB port on the computer.
  4. Wait a few seconds.
  5. Open a text editor and test typing.
The OFF position is used for wired mode when the USB-C cable is connected. If the switch is set to OFF but the cable is not connected, the keyboard should not work as a wireless device.

If K681-SP works normally over USB, the standard Windows HID driver is installed correctly.

Connecting via 2.4 GHz

The included USB receiver is used for 2.4 GHz mode.

  1. Set the keyboard switch to 2.4G.
  2. Connect the included USB receiver directly to the computer.
  3. Wait a few seconds.
  4. Test typing.

If the pairing between the receiver and keyboard is saved, the connection should be restored automatically.

Re-pairing with the 2.4 GHz USB receiver

If the keyboard works via USB or Bluetooth but no longer connects through the included receiver:

  1. Make sure the keyboard is charged.
  2. Set the switch to 2.4G.
  3. Disconnect the USB receiver from the computer.
  4. Press and hold FN + 4 for approximately 3 seconds.
  5. Wait until the indicator starts flashing rapidly.
  6. Connect the included USB receiver to the computer.
  7. Place the keyboard close to the receiver during pairing.
  8. Wait for the connection to complete and test typing.
Use the included K681-SP receiver. USB receivers from different Redragon models may look identical, but this does not guarantee compatibility.

Connecting K681-SP via Bluetooth

The keyboard supports three Bluetooth profiles.

Shortcut Profile
FN + 1 Bluetooth 1
FN + 2 Bluetooth 2
FN + 3 Bluetooth 3

A short press is used to switch between already saved profiles. To pair a new device, press and hold the selected shortcut for approximately 3 seconds until the indicator starts flashing rapidly.

In the list of Bluetooth devices, the keyboard may appear as BT3.0 Keyboard or BT5.0 Keyboard.

Bluetooth in Windows 11

  1. Set the keyboard switch to BT.
  2. Press and hold FN + 1, FN + 2, or FN + 3 for approximately 3 seconds.
  3. Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices.
  4. Turn on Bluetooth.
  5. Click Add device.
  6. Select Bluetooth.
  7. Select the keyboard from the list of detected devices.
  8. Wait for pairing to complete.

Bluetooth in Windows 10

  1. Set the keyboard switch to BT.
  2. Press and hold FN + 1, FN + 2, or FN + 3 for approximately 3 seconds.
  3. Open Settings → Devices → Bluetooth & other devices.
  4. Turn on Bluetooth.
  5. Select Add Bluetooth or other device.
  6. Click Bluetooth.
  7. Select the keyboard from the list.
  8. Complete the pairing process.

Switching between Bluetooth devices

After the initial pairing, you can save several devices and quickly switch between them:

  • FN + 1 — first profile;
  • FN + 2 — second profile;
  • FN + 3 — third profile.

Use a short press to switch. Pressing and holding the shortcut starts a new pairing process.

If Bluetooth no longer connects

If K681-SP remains in the list of saved Windows devices but no longer connects, remove the old pairing and create it again.

Windows 11

  1. Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Devices.
  2. Find the keyboard.
  3. Open the device menu and select Remove device.
  4. Set the keyboard to BT mode.
  5. Press and hold the required shortcut: FN + 1, FN + 2, or FN + 3.
  6. Add the keyboard again.

Windows 10

  1. Open Settings → Devices → Bluetooth & other devices.
  2. Select the saved keyboard.
  3. Click Remove device.
  4. Start pairing mode on K681-SP.
  5. Select Add Bluetooth or other device → Bluetooth.
  6. Connect the keyboard again.

Removing the old Bluetooth pairing does not remove the standard Windows HID driver and does not affect 2.4 GHz mode.

Controlling RGB lighting without software

The proprietary software is not required to use the built-in RGB effects.

Shortcut Function
FN + INS Switches between built-in RGB effects.
FN + ENTER Changes the color in supported modes.
FN + ↑ Increases brightness.
FN + ↓ Decreases brightness.
FN + → Increases the speed of the dynamic effect.
FN + ← Decreases the speed of the dynamic effect.
FN + SPACE Turns the RGB lighting off or on.
If the lighting unexpectedly turns off: first press FN + SPACE, then press FN + ↑ several times. There is no need to install or reinstall the software.

Custom lighting without software

K681-SP allows you to create a custom lighting profile directly from the keyboard.

Use the following shortcut:

FN + Backspace

  1. Switch to custom mode.
  2. Press and hold FN + Backspace to start configuration.
  3. Configure the colors of the required keys.
  4. When finished, use FN + Backspace again to save.

For more advanced lighting configuration, you can use the V2.0 software.

Multifunction control knob

K681-SP is equipped with a multifunction rotary control knob.

In normal mode:

  • turning it clockwise increases the volume;
  • turning it counterclockwise decreases the volume;
  • pressing it mutes or unmutes the sound.

Press and hold the knob for approximately 3 seconds to switch it to RGB lighting control.

In lighting mode:

  • turning the knob changes the brightness;
  • pressing it switches between lighting effects.

To return to volume control, press and hold the knob again for approximately 3 seconds.

If the knob stops changing the volume, it may be in RGB mode. Press and hold it for about 3 seconds and test again.

Switching between Windows and macOS

The keyboard supports different system modes.

For Windows:

FN + W — hold for approximately 3 seconds.

For macOS:

FN + A — hold for approximately 3 seconds.

If the Win, Alt, or some system functions unexpectedly behave differently in Windows, first switch back to Windows mode using FN + W. There is no need to reinstall the HID driver.

Checking the battery level

To check the battery level, use:

FN + ALT

The keyboard displays the approximate battery level using the lighting of the number row.

If the battery level is low, connect the USB-C cable.

Sleep mode

In wireless mode, the keyboard automatically saves battery power during periods of inactivity.

  • after approximately a few minutes of inactivity, the lighting may turn off;
  • after a longer period, the keyboard enters a deep power-saving mode.

To wake the keyboard, press any key and wait for the wireless connection to be restored.

The lighting turning off automatically during inactivity does not necessarily indicate a malfunction. This is part of the wireless keyboard’s power-saving mode.

Resetting K681-SP to factory settings

If the keyboard does not work correctly after configuring macros, lighting, or the proprietary software, perform a hardware reset.

Press and hold:

FN + ESC

Hold the shortcut for approximately 3 seconds.

After the reset, select the required connection mode again and first test the keyboard without launching the Redragon software.

The reset restores the default settings and may delete saved custom settings and macros.

What the K681-SP V2.0 software is used for

The proprietary software is intended for advanced configuration.

The supported functions available through the software include:

  • key remapping;
  • macro creation;
  • working with profiles;
  • advanced RGB configuration.

The software is not required for connecting via USB-C, Bluetooth, or 2.4 GHz.

Creating macros

  1. Launch the Redragon software.
  2. Open the macro section.
  3. Create a new macro.
  4. Record the required key sequence.
  5. If necessary, configure the delays.
  6. Save the macro.
  7. Assign it to a supported key.
  8. Apply the changes.
  9. Test the result.
When using macros in games, follow the rules of the specific game. Some types of automation may be prohibited.

If the Redragon software does not detect K681-SP

If the keyboard works normally but the proprietary software does not detect it:

  1. Make sure you are using the official package for K681-SP.
  2. Do not remove the software just because it is identical to K681MG-RGB-PRO V2.0 — this is normal for this hardware family.
  3. Set the keyboard switch to OFF.
  4. Connect the keyboard directly to the computer with a USB-C cable.
  5. Do not use a USB hub or docking station.
  6. Try another USB port.
  7. Close Redragon software for other devices.
  8. Close the K681-SP software and launch it again.
  9. If necessary, restart Windows.
If the keyboard types normally over USB, the standard Windows HID driver is already working. If the proprietary software does not detect the device, do not remove the HID driver as the first troubleshooting step.

If software for another Redragon device was previously installed

Before installing the correct software, it is recommended to remove the incompatible program.

Windows 11

  1. Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
  2. Find the incompatible Redragon software.
  3. Open the menu next to its name.
  4. Select Uninstall.
  5. Restart Windows.
  6. If necessary, perform a FN + ESC reset.
  7. Test the keyboard without the software.
  8. Then install the correct K681-SP V2.0 package.

Windows 10

  1. Open Settings → Apps → Apps & features.
  2. Find the incompatible Redragon software.
  3. Select it and click Uninstall.
  4. Restart Windows.
  5. If necessary, perform FN + ESC.
  6. Test the keyboard without the proprietary software.

Removing the proprietary software does not remove the standard Windows HID driver.

If neither Bluetooth nor 2.4 GHz works

First test the device in wired mode.

  1. Set the switch to OFF.
  2. Connect the USB-C cable.
  3. Test typing.

If K681-SP works over USB:

  1. fully charge the keyboard;
  2. check the switch position;
  3. repeat the 2.4 GHz pairing process using FN + 4;
  4. remove the old Bluetooth pairing and create it again;
  5. try another USB port for the wireless receiver.

If wired mode works correctly, the problem is usually not related to the basic Windows HID driver.

If the 2.4 GHz connection drops intermittently

  1. Fully charge the keyboard.
  2. Connect the receiver directly to the computer.
  3. Do not use a USB hub.
  4. Try another USB port.
  5. Move the keyboard closer to the receiver.
  6. Move the receiver away from sources of strong radio interference.
  7. If necessary, repeat the pairing process using FN + 4.

If Bluetooth disconnects intermittently

  1. Check the keyboard battery level.
  2. Make sure the correct Bluetooth profile is selected.
  3. Move the keyboard closer to the computer.
  4. Remove the old pairing and add the device again.
  5. Test K681-SP with another computer or another Bluetooth device.

If the keyboard works reliably over USB and 2.4 GHz but Bluetooth disconnects only on one computer, also check that computer’s Bluetooth adapter and its driver.

If one key does not work

K681-SP supports replaceable mechanical switches. Therefore, if one key is faulty, first check the switch itself.

  1. Turn off the keyboard.
  2. Disconnect the USB-C cable.
  3. Remove the keycap from the problematic key.
  4. Carefully remove the switch using a suitable switch puller.
  5. Check the metal contacts on the switch.
  6. Install a known-good compatible switch.
  7. Turn on the keyboard and test it again.

If the problem moves with the switch, the switch itself is faulty.

If the same position still does not work with a known-good switch, there may be a problem with the hot-swap socket, PCB, or another hardware component of the keyboard.

If a key registers twice

If a single keypress sometimes enters two identical characters:

  1. Test the key in a standard text editor.
  2. Close the Redragon software and repeat the test.
  3. Switch the keyboard to wired mode.
  4. If the problem persists, turn off K681-SP.
  5. Replace the suspected switch with a known-good one.
  6. Repeat the test.

If the double input moves with the switch, the problem is in the switch. If it remains in the same position, the hot-swap socket or PCB may be faulty.

Before replacing a switch, turn off the keyboard and disconnect the USB-C cable. Install the new switch carefully so that its metal contacts do not bend.

If the lighting for one key does not work

If the key itself registers presses but its RGB LED does not work:

  1. switch between several RGB effects;
  2. increase the brightness using FN + ↑;
  3. check the custom RGB profile;
  4. check the settings in the proprietary software;
  5. perform a FN + ESC reset;
  6. test the keyboard after restarting it.

If the LED for one key position does not work in any mode but the key itself works correctly, the RGB LED may have a hardware fault. Replacing the mechanical switch usually does not fix this problem.

If Windows does not detect K681-SP at all

For troubleshooting, use a wired connection:

  1. set the switch to OFF;
  2. connect the USB-C cable directly to the computer;
  3. try another USB port;
  4. do not use a USB hub;
  5. if possible, test another known-good USB-C cable that supports data transfer;
  6. restart Windows;
  7. test the keyboard on another computer.

If K681-SP works on another computer, you can force Windows to detect the HID device again.

Re-detecting the keyboard in Windows

  1. Connect K681-SP via USB.
  2. Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
  3. Expand Keyboards.
  4. If several HID keyboards are listed, do not remove all of them.
  5. Disconnect K681-SP and identify which entry disappears.
  6. Reconnect the keyboard and make sure the corresponding entry appears again.
  7. Right-click the specifically identified device.
  8. Select Uninstall device.
  9. Disconnect the keyboard for a few seconds.
  10. Connect it again.

Windows will automatically reinstall the standard HID driver.

If K681-SP is not detected in wired mode even on another computer, installing different Redragon software will usually not help. In this case, check the USB-C cable, the connector, and the keyboard itself.
