OKI B432, MB472 and MB562 Request Paper in MP Tray: How to Disable Manual Feed in Windows 10 and Windows 11

If an OKI B432, MB472 or MB562 asks you to load paper in the MP Tray and confirm the feeding of every sheet instead of printing normally from the main cassette, first check the manual feed mode in the driver. When manual feed is enabled, the device intentionally stops before every page. Paper may already be loaded in the multipurpose tray, but printing will still start only after confirmation on the control panel.

To fix the problem, cancel the old job, disable manual feed in the OKI driver, and send the document again. If the request appears only when printing from Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, or a browser, you also need to correct the paper source in that application.

Models covered by this guide

This guide applies to the following monochrome printers and MFPs:

• OKI B412dn, B432dn, B432dnw and B512dn;
• OKI ES4132dn and ES5112dn;
• OKI MB472dn, MB472dnw, MB492dn and MB562dnw;
• OKI ES4172LP MFP, ES4192 MFP, ES5162 MFP and ES5162LP MFP.

The location of the settings depends on the installed driver: PCL6, PS, or XPS. The PS driver is not available for some models, including the OKI B412. In that case, use the instructions for PCL6 or XPS.

In different language and software versions of the OKI driver, the wording of some items may vary. Therefore, the exact English name of a setting is given so that it can be found in any driver version.

How to tell whether manual feed is enabled

Message or behavior	Cause and required action
Paper request on MP Tray	The job is waiting for manual feeding from the MP Tray. On an OKI MB472, select Print and press OK to print the current sheet, then disable manual feed in the driver.
Feed print job manually	Manual feed is enabled on the OKI MB492 and MB562. For the current sheet, press Start, then Yes, and correct the driver setting afterward.
The printer stops before every page	This is typical behavior when Use MP tray as manual feed is enabled.
Paper MP Tray is empty. Set [MEDIA_SIZE]	The job specifies the MP Tray, but the device does not detect paper in it. Load paper or select Tray 1 in the driver.
Please change [MEDIA_SIZE] [MEDIA_TYPE] in MP Tray	The paper size or type in the job does not match the MP Tray settings. Match the settings in the application, driver, and tray.
Error 460, 461, or 462	Check the selected tray, paper size, and paper type. These errors cannot be fixed simply by disabling manual feed.

Step 1. Cancel the old job or allow the current sheet to print

Where the actions are performed: on the printer or MFP control panel.

If the document is no longer needed, it is better to cancel it in the Windows print queue. If you need to finish printing the current page, follow the instructions for your model group.

OKI B412, B432, B512, ES4132 and ES5112

1. Open the MP Tray and load a sheet with the print side facing up.
2. Move the side guides against the edges of the sheet. The guides must not bend the paper.
3. Press the ONLINE button on the control panel.
4. If the document contains multiple pages, the request will appear again before each following sheet.

OKI MB472 and ES4172LP MFP

1. Load paper in the MP Tray.
2. When the request appears on the display, use the arrow buttons to select Print.
3. Press OK.
4. Repeat the confirmation only if you need to finish the current job.

OKI MB492, MB562, ES4192 and ES5162

1. Load paper in the MP Tray.
2. On the touch panel, press Start.
3. If a confirmation appears, press Yes.
4. After the current sheet prints, proceed to the driver settings.

Do not turn off the device instead of canceling the job. The document may remain in the Windows print queue and be sent to the printer again after it is turned back on.

Step 2. Determine which driver is being used

Where the actions are performed: in Windows printer properties.

1. Press Win + R.
2. Enter shell:PrintersFolder and press Enter.
3. Right-click the OKI print queue used to print the document.
4. Select Printer properties.
5. Open the Advanced tab.
6. Check the name in the Driver field. It will usually include PCL, PCL6, PS, or XPS.

If the field shows Microsoft IPP Class Driver, Microsoft PCL6 Class Driver, or another system driver, the manufacturer-specific manual feed settings may be unavailable. In that case, install the OKI PCL6 driver appropriate for your model, then repeat the configuration.

The scanner driver, ActKey, and firmware update utility are not required to disable manual feed.

Step 3. Disable manual feed in the OKI PCL6 driver

Where the actions are performed: in the OKI PCL6 driver printing preferences window.

1. In the application from which you are printing, open File → Print.
2. Select the required OKI PCL6 queue. If several identical models are listed, check the full queue name.
3. Click Printer Properties, Properties, or Preferences. The button name depends on the application.
4. In the OKI driver window, open the Setup tab.
5. In the Source field, select Auto or Tray 1.
6. Click Paper Feed Options.
7. Clear the Use MP tray as manual feed check box.
8. If the first page is configured to feed from a separate tray, set the same source for the first and remaining pages: Auto or Tray 1.
9. Click OK to close the additional settings, then click OK again.
10. Do not print the old job yet. First clear the queue as described below.

Multipurpose Tray and manual feed do not mean the same thing. You can print several sheets in succession from the MP Tray without confirming every page. The additional Use MP tray as manual feed check box is what causes the printer to stop before every sheet.

Step 4. Disable manual feed in the OKI PS driver

Where the actions are performed: in the OKI PS driver printing preferences window.

1. In the application, open File → Print.
2. Select the OKI queue whose name contains PS.
3. Open Printer Properties or Preferences.
4. Go to the Paper/Quality tab.
5. In Paper Source, select Automatically Select or Tray 1.
6. Click Advanced. In some driver versions, this button is on the Layout tab.
7. Find Multipurpose tray is handled as manual feed.
8. Set it to No.
9. Click OK in all open windows.

Step 5. Disable manual feed in the OKI XPS driver

Where the actions are performed: in the OKI XPS driver printing preferences window.

1. Open File → Print and select the OKI XPS queue.
2. Open Printer Properties or Preferences.
3. On the Setup tab, open the Source list.
4. Select Auto or Tray 1.
5. Click Options.
6. Clear the Use MP tray as manual feed check box.
7. Save the change by clicking OK.

Step 6. Save the corrected settings in Windows 11

Where the actions are performed: in the Windows 11 Settings app and the OKI driver.

A change made through File → Print may apply only to the current document. To prevent new jobs from using manual feed by default, save the setting for the printer queue.

1. Click Start and open Settings.
2. Select Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
3. Click the name of the OKI printer you use.
4. Open Printing preferences.
5. In the PCL6 or XPS driver, select Source → Auto or Tray 1.
6. Open Paper Feed Options or Options and disable Use MP tray as manual feed.
7. In the PS driver, select Paper Source → Automatically Select or Tray 1, and set Multipurpose tray is handled as manual feed to No.
8. Click Apply, then OK.

If the Windows 11 window does not contain Printing preferences, press Win + R, enter shell:PrintersFolder, and press Enter. Then right-click the required printer and select Printing preferences.

Step 7. Save the corrected settings in Windows 10

Where the actions are performed: in the Windows 10 Settings app and the OKI driver.

1. Click Start → Settings.
2. Open Devices → Printers & scanners.
3. Click the name of the required OKI printer.
4. Click Manage.
5. Open Printing preferences.
6. In the PCL6 or XPS driver, select Auto or Tray 1 and disable Use MP tray as manual feed.
7. In the PS driver, select Automatically Select or Tray 1 and set manual handling of the MP Tray to No.
8. Click Apply, then OK.

If several users share the printer

Where the actions are performed: in the Windows print queue properties. Administrator rights may be required.

1. Press Win + R, enter shell:PrintersFolder, and press Enter.
2. Right-click the OKI queue and select Printer properties.
3. Open the Advanced tab.
4. Click Printing Defaults.
5. Select Auto or Tray 1 and disable manual feed using the method appropriate for the installed driver.
6. Click Apply, then OK.

If the printer is connected through a print server and the setting returns after you sign in, the setting must be changed on the server. Reinstalling the driver locally on one computer will usually not preserve the result in this situation.

Step 8. Remove the old job from the Windows print queue

Where the actions are performed: in the Windows print queue.

A job sent before the driver setting was changed already contains the manual feed command. Therefore, it may continue to request the MP Tray even after the setting has been corrected.

Windows 11

1. Open Start → Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
2. Select the OKI printer.
3. Click Open print queue.
4. Right-click the problematic job and select Cancel.
5. Wait until the document disappears from the list.

Windows 10

1. Open Start → Settings → Devices → Printers & scanners.
2. Select the OKI printer and click Open queue.
3. Right-click the problematic job and select Cancel.
4. Wait until the document is removed.

If the job cannot be removed

1. Close the application from which the document was sent to print.
2. Press Win + R.
3. Enter services.msc and press Enter.
4. In the Services window, find Print Spooler.
5. Right-click the service and select Restart.
6. Open the queue again and check whether the job has disappeared.

Restarting the Print Spooler temporarily interrupts processing of jobs for all printers on this computer. After clearing the queue, send a new one-page document.

If the MP Tray request appears only in Microsoft Word

Where the actions are performed: in Microsoft Word page settings, then in the OKI driver.

Word can store the paper source inside a document separately for the first page and the remaining pages. Therefore, one file may continue to select the MP Tray even though new documents print from Tray 1.

1. Open the problematic document in Microsoft Word.
2. Go to the Layout tab. In older versions of Word, it may be called Page Layout.
3. In the Page Setup group, click the small dialog box launcher in the lower-right corner.
4. In the window that opens, go to the Paper tab.
5. For First page, select Default tray or an automatic selection option.
6. Set the same value for Other pages.
7. In Apply to, select Whole document. If the document is divided into sections, check the paper source in each section.
8. Click OK.
9. Open File → Print, select the required printer, and click Printer Properties.
10. Make sure Auto or Tray 1 is selected and manual feed is disabled.
11. Save the document and resend only one page.

If a blank Word document prints correctly but the original file requests the MP Tray again, the problem is in that file or its template rather than in the printer.

If the MP Tray request appears only when printing a PDF

Where the actions are performed: in the Adobe Acrobat or Acrobat Reader print window, then in the OKI driver.

1. Open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat or Acrobat Reader.
2. Select Menu → Print or File → Print.
3. Select the correct OKI queue.
4. Click Properties.
5. In the driver, select Auto or Tray 1 and disable manual feed.
6. Click OK to return to the Acrobat print window.
7. Clear Choose paper source by PDF page size. When this option is enabled, Acrobat may select the MP Tray for pages whose size differs from the paper in the cassette.
8. If the PDF needs to be printed on standard A4 or Letter paper, select Fit in the sizing section.
9. If necessary, click Page Setup and set the actual paper size.
10. For testing, print only one page.

If the same PDF prints from another program without requesting the MP Tray, check the Acrobat settings. If the request appears from every program, check the permanent driver settings again and remove the old job from the queue.

If the request appears when printing from a browser

Where the actions are performed: first in the browser, then in the Windows system print dialog and the OKI driver.

The simplified Chrome or Microsoft Edge print window may not show all settings provided by the manufacturer’s driver.

1. Open the print dialog in the browser.
2. Press Ctrl + Shift + P to open the Windows system print dialog. In some browser versions, you can also select Print using system dialog.
3. Select the required OKI queue.
4. Click Preferences or Properties.
5. In the driver, select Auto or Tray 1 and disable manual feed.
6. For testing, print one page.

Configure MP Tray usage on the device control panel

Where the actions are performed: on the printer or MFP control panel.

The MP Tray usage setting determines whether the device can select this tray automatically. It does not override an explicit manual feed command sent by the driver. Therefore, always configure the driver first.

OKI B412, B432, B512, ES4132 and ES5112

1. Use the arrow buttons to open MENUS.
2. Go to TRAY CONFIG → MP TRAY CONFIG → TRAY USAGE.
3. For normal operation, leave WHEN MISMATCHING selected. This is the factory setting for this group of models.
4. Select NORMAL TRAY only if the MP Tray should participate in automatic selection on the same basis as the cassettes.
5. Confirm the value by pressing OK.

OKI MB472 and ES4172LP MFP

1. Press SETTING on the control panel.
2. Open Paper Setup → MP Tray → MP Tray Usage.
3. If the multipurpose tray should not be selected automatically, leave Do Not Use. This is the factory setting.
4. If the MP Tray should be used when the paper in the main cassette does not match the job, select When Mismatching.
5. Press OK.

OKI MB492, MB562, ES4192 and ES5162

1. On the touch panel, open Device Settings.
2. Go to Paper Setup → MP Tray → MP Tray Usage.
3. If the MP Tray should not participate in automatic selection, select Do Not Use.
4. If it should be used as a normal paper source, select Normal Tray.
5. Save the setting.

If normal documents should always print from the main cassette, the most predictable option is to select Tray 1 in the driver. Auto allows the device to search other available trays for suitable paper.

If a paper size or type error appears after manual feed is disabled

Where the actions are performed: on the device control panel, in the OKI driver, and, if necessary, in the application.

A message asking you to change Media Size or Media Type means that the manual feed command is no longer the only cause. The device compares the job settings with the selected tray settings and detects a mismatch.

1. Check the size of the loaded paper. A4 and Letter look similar but have different dimensions.
2. Check which tray actually contains the paper: Tray 1, Tray 2, or MP Tray.
3. On the OKI B412/B432/B512, open MENUS → TRAY CONFIG and select the tray being used.
4. On the OKI MB472, open SETTING → Paper Setup.
5. On the OKI MB492/MB562, open Device Settings → Paper Setup.
6. For the selected tray, set the actual Paper Size, Media Type, and Media Weight.
7. Open the OKI driver printing preferences and set the same size, type, and weight.
8. Check the page size in Word, Acrobat, or another application. It must also match the paper.
9. Cancel the old job and send a new one-page test.

For standard office paper, the usual settings are A4 or Letter, plain paper, and medium weight. Do not automatically use these values for envelopes, labels, cards, or heavy paper — specify the characteristics appropriate for the material actually loaded.

If the printer should automatically switch to another tray

Where the actions are performed: on the device control panel and in the OKI driver.

Automatic switching works only between trays registered with the same paper size, type, and weight.

On the device control panel

• OKI B412/B432/B512: MENUS → TRAY CONFIG → AUTO TRAY SWITCH → ON;
• OKI MB472: SETTING → Paper Setup → Auto Tray Switch → ON;
• OKI MB492/MB562: Device Settings → Paper Setup → Auto Tray Switch → ON.

In the OKI PCL6 driver

1. Open Setup → Paper Feed Options.
2. For OKI B412/B432/B512, enable Auto in the paper feed options.
3. For OKI MB472/MB492/MB562, enable Auto Tray Change. In some driver versions, this setting is shown as Tray Change → Auto.
4. Make sure Use MP tray as manual feed is disabled.
5. In the Source field, select Auto.

In the OKI PS driver

1. Open Layout → Advanced.
2. Set Tray Switch → On.
3. On the Paper/Quality tab, select Automatically Select.
4. Set Multipurpose tray is handled as manual feed to No.

Do not use automatic switching between plain paper and envelopes, labels, or heavy media. For special media, explicitly select the MP Tray and specify its actual type and weight.

If manual feed becomes enabled again

Where the actions are performed: in Windows, the OKI driver, and the application from which you are printing.

1. Check whether another queue for the same model is selected. Windows may contain PCL6, PS, XPS, WSD, and IPP queues at the same time.
2. Open File → Print in the problematic application and note the full name of the selected printer.
3. Change the settings for that specific queue, not another copy of the OKI printer.
4. Delete any saved driver profile or printing preset in which the MP Tray is selected.
5. If the problem occurs in one Word document, check the paper source stored in the document.
6. If the problem occurs only in Acrobat, disable paper source selection by PDF page size.
7. If the queue comes from a print server, ask the administrator to check the default printing settings on the server.
8. After every change, cancel the old job and create a new one.

A test that identifies the source of the problem

Where the actions are performed: in Windows and the Notepad app.

1. Remove all old jobs from the OKI print queue.
2. In the permanent driver settings, select Auto or Tray 1 and disable manual feed.
3. Open Notepad.
4. Enter one short line of text.
5. Print one page on plain paper from Tray 1.

• If the page prints without an MP Tray request, the printer and permanent driver settings are working correctly. Check the application or the specific document.
• If the request also appears from Notepad, check the selected queue and its printing preferences again.
• If a paper size or type message appears instead of the manual feed request, match Paper Size, Media Type, and Media Weight.
• If the device cannot feed paper even when printing a configuration page from the control panel, the cause is not related to the driver. Check paper loading, guide positions, feed rollers, and the message on the display.

When manual feed should not be disabled

Manual feed is useful when each sheet needs to be inserted and confirmed separately, for example when printing on a single sheet of letterhead, an envelope, a label, or special media. In that case:

1. In the OKI driver, select Multipurpose Tray.
2. Enable Use MP tray as manual feed.
3. Set the actual media size, type, and weight.
4. Load the sheet in the MP Tray with the print side facing up.
5. Move the guides against the edges of the sheet.
6. Confirm printing on the device control panel.
7. After the special job, disable manual feed again if subsequent documents should print without confirming every sheet.

For normal printing from the main cassette, set the source in the driver to Auto or Tray 1, disable Use MP tray as manual feed, and make sure the paper size in the job matches the paper in the tray. Then be sure to remove the previously sent document from the queue and send it again.
