OKI B432dnw, MB472dnw and MB562dnw Cannot Connect to Wi-Fi: WPS, SSID and Connect Failed Error

If an OKI B432dnw, MB472dnw or MB562dnw cannot connect to Wi-Fi, first restore the connection between the device and the router. Reinstalling the driver on the computer will not fix an incorrect network password, an incompatible WPA3 mode, a hidden SSID, or a disabled wireless module.

This guide will help in situations where the device cannot find the required network, displays Connect Failed, loses the connection after a restart, or stops printing after the router, Wi-Fi name, or password has been changed. First configure the wireless connection on the printer or MFP itself, then check the IP address and print port in Windows.

Disconnect the network cable before configuration

Devices in this series cannot use wired and wireless networking at the same time. If a LAN cable is connected to the Ethernet port, turn off the device, disconnect the cable, and turn the device on again. A USB cable does not interfere with this, but it is not required for testing Wi-Fi.

Models covered by this guide

The main procedures apply to the following devices:

  • OKI B432dnw;
  • OKI MB472dnw;
  • OKI MB562dnw;
  • OKI ES5162dnw.

The same configuration is available on the following models only if an optional Wireless LAN module is installed and enabled:

  • OKI B412dn, B432dn and B512dn;
  • OKI ES4132dn and ES5112dn;
  • OKI ES4172LP MFP and ES5162LP MFP.

MB472dn, MB492dn and ES4192 MFP models without a wireless module cannot be connected to Wi-Fi by installing software or a driver. Use Ethernet or USB for these models. The letter w in the model name usually indicates built-in wireless network support, but you should confirm the presence of the module in the device menu or on a printed configuration page.

The built-in module in these models operates in Infrastructure mode using IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n standards. Its settings support WPA2-PSK and WPA2-EAP. Therefore, a network configured as WPA3 only may not be displayed correctly or may fail to connect. For a typical home or small-office network, the most compatible option is WPA2-Personal (WPA2-PSK) with AES.

Programs and files you need

No files are required to connect to the router from the printer control panel. Do not reinstall the PCL driver, Scanner Driver, ActKey, or Configuration Tool until the antenna icon appears on the control panel and the device receives an IP address.

After a successful connection, you may need the previously installed PCL6 Printer Driver if the printer has not yet been added to Windows. Firmware Update Tool is required only if the connection remains unstable after the router has been configured correctly and the device has old firmware. Do not update firmware over an unstable Wi-Fi connection: use USB or Ethernet during the update according to the instructions for the selected package.

Step 1. Prepare the router

Before changing the printer settings, check the access point configuration. If the router has a separate guest or IoT network, the computer and printer must be able to communicate with each other on the local network.

  1. Make sure Wi-Fi works on a phone or laptop near the printer.
  2. Write down the exact network name SSID and password. Uppercase and lowercase letters are different.
  3. For the first test, enable the 2.4 GHz band and compatibility with IEEE 802.11n. This band usually provides better coverage through walls.
  4. In the security settings, select WPA2-Personal, WPA2-PSK, or an equivalent option, and AES encryption.
  5. If WPA3 only is currently selected, create a separate WPA2 network for the printer or temporarily select a compatible WPA2/WPA3 mode. If mixed mode does not help, use WPA2-PSK/AES.
  6. Do not select WEP, TKIP, or an open network without a password. These options are outdated and reduce network security.
  7. Disable AP Isolation, Client Isolation, or wireless client isolation for the network the printer will use. Otherwise, the device may obtain internet access and an IP address, but the computer will not be able to send jobs to it.
  8. Make sure the router’s DHCP server is enabled.
  9. If the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands use the same name, temporarily assign them different SSIDs for troubleshooting. Connect the OKI to the 2.4 GHz network and restore band steering only after stable printing has been confirmed.
  10. If the SSID is hidden, you do not need to make it visible just to connect: the name can be entered using Manual Setup. However, making the SSID temporarily visible can simplify initial troubleshooting.

You do not have to use WPS

WPS is disabled on many modern routers. This does not indicate a printer fault. It is more reliable to select the SSID on the control panel and enter the password manually. WPS is convenient only when the feature is actually enabled in the access point settings.

Step 2. Restart the network before configuring it again

  1. Turn off the printer or MFP.
  2. Disconnect the LAN cable from the device.
  3. Restart the router and wait until Wi-Fi and internet access are fully restored.
  4. Place the device a few meters from the router. There should be no metal cabinet, reinforced concrete wall, microwave oven, or cordless phone base between them.
  5. Turn on the OKI and wait until it is ready.
  6. If the device was previously connected to another network, do not wait for it to reconnect automatically: open Wireless Setting and save the current SSID and password again.

Method 1. Connect using WPS

This method is suitable only for a router with WPS-PBC enabled. Do not press WPS simultaneously on several access points or Mesh nodes.

OKI B432dnw, B412, B512 and compatible ES printers

  1. Use the scroll buttons on the control panel to find WIRELESS SETTING and press OK.
  2. Enter the current administrator password and press OK. On devices in this series with unchanged factory settings, aaaaaa is often used.
  3. Open WPS SETUP.
  4. Select WPS-PBC and press OK.
  5. Select YES and confirm the action.
  6. While the printer is searching, press and hold the WPS button on the router for several seconds.
  7. Do not press any buttons on the control panel until the procedure is complete.
  8. After the successful completion message appears, proceed to checking the IP address.

OKI MB472dnw and ES4172LP MFP

  1. Press the physical SETTING button.
  2. Select Wireless Setting and press OK.
  3. Enter the administrator password, select Enter, and press OK.
  4. Open Automatic Setup (WPS).
  5. Select WPS-PBC.
  6. Select Yes and press OK.
  7. Within the time shown on the display, press and hold the WPS button on the router for several seconds.
  8. Wait for the completion message. The antenna icon at the top of the screen confirms the connection.

OKI MB562dnw, ES5162dnw and ES5162LP MFP

  1. On the touch screen, press Device Settings.
  2. Press Wireless Setting.
  3. Enter the current administrator password and press OK.
  4. Press Automatic Setup (WPS).
  5. Select WPS-PBC.
  6. Press Yes.
  7. Within approximately two minutes, press and hold the WPS button on the router.
  8. Wait until setup is complete. If an antenna icon appears in the upper-right corner, the connection has been established.

If WPS reports Connect Failed or Overlap

  • Connect Failed means that the access point did not respond or could not negotiate the settings. Check whether WPS is enabled in the router’s web interface and try again near the router.
  • Overlap means that two or more access points responded to the request at the same time. Wait a few minutes, do not start WPS on other Mesh nodes, and try again.
  • If the error appears again, do not reset the device. Proceed to selecting the SSID manually.

Method 2. Select the network from the list and enter the password

This is the main method for routers without WPS. Before starting, check the password again on a phone or laptop: the router web-interface password and the Wi-Fi password are different values.

OKI B432dnw and other printers with a button-based control panel

  1. Open WIRELESS SETTING.
  2. Enter the administrator password.
  3. Select WIRELESS SELECTION and press OK.
  4. Wait until the search is complete.
  5. Select the exact SSID of your network and press OK.
  6. When ENTER WPA KEY appears, enter the Wi-Fi password. This value is also called the Pre-shared Key or Network Key.
  7. Check every character. On a button-based control panel, it is easy to confuse 0 with O, 1 with l, or forget to switch the character case.
  8. Confirm the password.
  9. Make sure the confirmation screen shows the correct SSID and WPA2-PSK, then select YES.
  10. Wait until the connection is complete.

OKI MB472dnw

  1. Press SETTING.
  2. Open Wireless Setting and enter the administrator password.
  3. Select Wireless Network Selection.
  4. Wait until the list of networks appears.
  5. Select the required SSID and press OK.
  6. Enter the Pre-shared Key, select Enter, and press OK.
  7. Compare the displayed network name with the SSID you wrote down.
  8. Select Yes and wait until the procedure is complete.

OKI MB562dnw

  1. On the Home screen, press Device Settings.
  2. Open Wireless Setting and enter the administrator password.
  3. Press Wireless Network Selection.
  4. Wait for the list of detected access points.
  5. Press the required SSID, then Select.
  6. Enter the Wi-Fi password and press OK.
  7. On the confirmation screen, check the SSID and press Yes.
  8. After completion, look for the antenna icon. It may temporarily be hidden on some main screens, so also check the IP address.

Method 3. Manually connect to a hidden network

Use Manual Setup if the required SSID is not in the list but the network is definitely working. The hidden network name must be entered in full and with the correct character case.

B432, B412 and B512 printers

  1. Open WIRELESS SETTING > WIRELESS SELECTION.
  2. After the search, select MANUAL SETUP.
  3. Open SSID and enter the exact network name.
  4. Open SECURITY and select WPA2-PSK.
  5. Under WPA ENCRYPTION TYPE, select AES.
  6. Open WPA PRE-SHARED KEY and enter the Wi-Fi password.
  7. Select EXECUTE and confirm the connection.
  8. Wait about 30 seconds. If CONNECT FAILED appears again, check the SSID, security mode, and password again.

MB472dnw MFP

  1. Open SETTING > Wireless Setting > Wireless Network Selection.
  2. After the search, select Manual Setup.
  3. Enter the SSID, select Enter, and press OK.
  4. For security, select WPA2-PSK.
  5. For encryption, select AES.
  6. Enter the Pre-shared Key and confirm it.
  7. Check the displayed settings and select Yes.
  8. Wait until the connection is complete.

MB562dnw MFP

  1. Open Device Settings > Wireless Setting > Wireless Network Selection.
  2. Press Manual Setup.
  3. Enter the exact SSID and press Next.
  4. Select WPA2-PSK and press Next.
  5. Select AES and press Next.
  6. Enter the Pre-shared Key and press Next.
  7. Check the settings and press Yes.
  8. Wait about 30 seconds and check the antenna icon.

WPA2-EAP is used in corporate networks with an authentication server. It cannot be configured like a normal home WPA2-PSK network. For WPA2-EAP, open the device web page and go to Admin Setup > Network > Wireless Setting > Manual Setup. The organization’s administrator must provide the certificates, EAP method, user name, and server requirements.

If Wireless Setting is missing

A missing menu item cannot be restored by reinstalling the Windows driver.

  1. Check the full model name on the label or in Configuration. A model without w may not have built-in Wi-Fi.
  2. On B412dn, B432dn, B512dn, ES4132dn and ES5112dn, the optional module must be physically installed.
  3. For these printers, open BOOT MENU and set WIRELESS MODULE > ENABLE.
  4. Turn off the printer using its normal power button, wait until shutdown is complete, and turn it on again.
  5. Check CONFIGURATION > NETWORK. A WIRELESS INFO section should appear.
  6. On ES5162LP MFP, open Device Settings > Admin Setup > User Install > Wireless Module, select ENABLE, return to the Home screen, and restart the MFP.

Do not disassemble the device simply because the menu is missing. First determine whether the wireless module was installed. The optional module may not be supplied or sold in some countries.

If the network does not appear in the list

  1. Check whether a phone near the OKI can see this network.
  2. Temporarily move the printer closer to the router.
  3. Enable a separate 2.4 GHz network in a mode compatible with 802.11n.
  4. If the router is set to Wi-Fi 6/802.11ax only or Wi-Fi 5/802.11ac only, enable a mixed mode that supports 802.11n.
  5. Temporarily set a fixed channel of 1, 6, or 11 and a width of 20 MHz for 2.4 GHz. This is a diagnostic setting: after testing, you can choose a less congested channel.
  6. Disable SSID hiding or use Manual Setup.
  7. Make sure MAC address filtering is not blocking the device. The Wireless LAN MAC address is listed in the configuration.
  8. Search for the network again.

If the 5 GHz access point does not always appear, first establish a stable connection on the 2.4 GHz band. After that, you can test 5 GHz separately. Availability of 5 GHz channels depends on the country, router settings, and the regional version of the wireless module.

If Connect Failed appears after entering the password

  1. Remove any accidental space at the beginning or end of the SSID and password.
  2. Check the case of every letter.
  3. Make sure you are entering the Wi-Fi password, not the router administrator password.
  4. Set the router to WPA2-PSK/AES. Disable WPA3-only, WEP, and TKIP.
  5. If a long password with symbols is used, temporarily create a separate secured network with a password made of Latin letters and numbers. Do not make the password short or obvious.
  6. Connect a phone to this network. If the phone also cannot connect, the problem is in the router settings.
  7. Repeat Manual Setup on the OKI.
  8. If the connection works with the temporary network, the problem was related to the original SSID, security method, or password entry. Correct one setting at a time.

Restart the wireless connection without entering the password again

If the SSID and password have not changed but the connection was lost after a router failure, first perform Wireless reconnection.

OKI MB472dnw

  1. Press SETTING.
  2. Open Admin Setup and enter the administrator password.
  3. Select Network Menu > Network Setup > Wireless Setting.
  4. Select Wireless reconnection.
  5. Wait until the antenna icon appears again.

OKI MB562dnw

  1. Press Device Settings.
  2. Open Admin Setup > Network Menu > Network Setup.
  3. Open Wireless (Infrastructure) Setting.
  4. Press Wireless reconnection.
  5. Check the antenna icon and the new IP address.

If the router, SSID, password, or security type has changed, Wireless reconnection will not correct the old saved settings. In this case, repeat network selection or Manual Setup.

Check whether the printer received an IP address

The antenna icon confirms a connection to the access point, but a valid IPv4 address is required for printing.

  1. Print Configuration or Menu Map from the device control panel.
  2. Find the Wireless section and the IPv4 Address value.
  3. A normal home-network address usually starts with 192.168., 10., or is in the range from 172.16.x.x to 172.31.x.x.
  4. An address such as 169.254.x.x means that the device did not receive network settings from the DHCP server.
  5. If 169.254.x.x is shown, restart the router and OKI, check DHCP, and make sure the device is not blocked by MAC address filtering.
  6. On a computer connected to the same network, open a browser and enter the device IP address, for example:

  1. If the OKI web page opens, the wireless connection and local network access are working.
  2. If the page does not open, disable the VPN on the computer, make sure the computer is on the same local network, and check Client Isolation on the router.

The printer is connected to Wi-Fi, but Windows shows Offline

After the router is replaced, the OKI often receives a different IP address while the installed Windows print queue continues sending jobs to the old address. In this case, you do not need to configure Wi-Fi again.

  1. Write down the new IPv4 address from Configuration.
  2. On the computer, press Win + R.
  3. Enter the following command and press Enter:

  1. Right-click the required printer and select Printer properties. Do not open Properties, which applies only to the device.
  2. Open the Ports tab.
  3. If an old Standard TCP/IP Port is selected, click Configure Port and compare the address.
  4. If the address cannot be changed or WSD is being used, click Add Port.
  5. Select Standard TCP/IP Port and click New Port.
  6. Enter the new OKI IP address.
  7. Complete the wizard, select the new port, and click Apply.
  8. Open the General tab and print a test page.

To prevent the problem from recurring after the router restarts, reserve the current address for the OKI MAC address using DHCP Reservation on the router. Do not assign a random static address only on the device control panel: it may fall within the range that DHCP assigns to another device.

  1. Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  2. Click Add device.
  3. After the search is complete, click Add manually.
  4. Select Add a printer using an IP address or hostname.
  5. In Device type, select TCP/IP Device.
  6. Enter the OKI IPv4 address.
  7. If automatic detection hangs or selects an unsuitable class driver, clear the option for automatically querying the device and then select the installed OKI PCL6 driver.
  8. Complete the wizard and print a test page.

Wi-Fi connects but regularly drops

  1. Compare operation near the router and in the permanent location. If the connection is stable near the router, the cause is related to signal strength or interference.
  2. Do not place the printer behind a metal cabinet, near a microwave oven, cordless phone, or a strong source of electromagnetic interference.
  3. For 2.4 GHz, check channels 1, 6, and 11. Select the least congested one.
  4. Reserve the IP address using DHCP Reservation.
  5. Check whether a Mesh node is restarting or whether the router is moving the device between bands that use the same SSID.
  6. Separate the SSIDs for the bands and keep the OKI on the more stable network.
  7. Perform Wireless reconnection.
  8. Check whether newer firmware is available for the exact model.
  9. If the connection continues to drop regularly even near the router, temporarily connect the device via Ethernet. Stable operation over a cable confirms that the driver and print queue are working correctly and that the wireless module, its firmware, or the router should be checked.

What not to do

  • Do not perform a full Factory Reset only because of a Connect Failed error. The reset will delete IP settings, the address book, scan profiles, SMTP settings, and other parameters.
  • Do not reinstall the driver until the antenna icon appears and the device has a valid IP address.
  • Do not leave WPA3-only enabled if the wireless module supports WPA2 but does not specify WPA3 support.
  • Do not connect a LAN cable while trying to use Wireless LAN.
  • Do not update firmware through a connection that repeatedly drops.
  • Do not disable Wi-Fi security for an extended period just for testing. For troubleshooting, use a separate WPA2-PSK/AES network.

If, after all checks, the device can see other networks but not yours, the cause is almost always in the router settings: band, channel, 802.11 mode, hidden SSID, or security. If the OKI cannot see any network even when it is close to a working access point, check whether the Wireless LAN Module is installed and enabled, restart the device, and only then consider a fault in the wireless module.
