OKI MC332, MC362 and MC562: Firmware Update Tool Does Not Detect the Device — How to Safely Update the Firmware

Last Updated on 07.08.2026 by DriverNew

If Firmware Update Tool does not find the OKI MC332, MC362 or MC562, do not rush to download a random firmware file or look for a way to update from a USB drive. First enter the MFP’s IP address manually and check SNMP. If network discovery still does not work, test using a direct USB connection.

Working printing, scanning, ping commands or the built-in web page does not necessarily mean that the update program will be able to detect the device. For network discovery, it uses separate communication methods, including SNMP. Therefore, the MFP may be fully accessible for normal use but still be missing from the Firmware Update Tool list.

Quick solution if the device is not found

Find the MFP’s IPv4 address, then in Firmware Update Tool select Network > Environment setting > Device communications > Network search range, add the IP address using the Add button and repeat Start search. If the device still does not appear, enable SNMP under SETTING > Admin Setup > Network Menu > Network Setup > Network Setting > SNMP > Enable. Then close and restart the program.

Models This Guide Applies To

The update and troubleshooting procedure described here applies to the following models:

  • OKI MC332dn;
  • OKI MC342dn and MC342dw;
  • OKI MC352dn;
  • OKI MC362dn and MC362w;
  • OKI MC562dn, MC562w and MC562dw;
  • OKI ES3452 MFP;
  • OKI ES5462 MFP and ES5462dw MFP;
  • OKI MPS2731mc.

The names of some menu items may differ slightly depending on the model, control panel language and firmware version. This article uses the English names found in the manuals and program interface.

When a Firmware Update Is Actually Required

You should update the firmware if the new version is intended to fix the problem you are experiencing, addresses a security issue, or if technical support recommends the update. An update may also be required when the device works unreliably with a modern operating system or network service and a fix has been released for that problem.

Do not start with a firmware update if the cause is clearly elsewhere:

  • Windows does not detect the USB cable or the MFP’s network interface;
  • the print or scanner driver is not installed;
  • the wrong IP port is selected in the print queue;
  • the shared folder, e-mail or account is configured incorrectly;
  • there is a paper jam, the toner has run out, or a hardware error is displayed.

A firmware update does not replace fixing these causes. If Firmware Update Tool reports that the latest version is already installed, forcing another update is usually unnecessary.

Firmware Update Tool and a firmware file are not the same thing

FWUP_020002_0_322775.exe is the Windows update utility. During a normal online update, it identifies the exact model and downloads the appropriate firmware package from the server. Do not rename .bin files, do not select firmware for a similar model, and do not use files from third-party websites.

Step 1. Record the Device Information

Before starting the program, write down the exact model, serial number, component versions and IP address. This information will help you select the correct device on the network and will be required if the update ends with an error.

Serial Number and CU and PU Versions

  1. On the MFP control panel, press SETTING.
  2. Open View Information.
  3. Select System Information.
  4. Write down the Serial No., CU Version and PU Version values.

CU Version and PU Version refer to the main device components. Wireless Information > Firmware Version shows the wireless module version and does not replace this information.

IPv4 Address

  1. Press SETTING.
  2. Open View Information > Network.
  3. Write down the IPv4 Address value, for example 192.168.1.40.

If the IPv4 address is missing or is 0.0.0.0, first connect the MFP to the network and obtain a valid address. A manual search for a nonexistent address will not help.

Print the Configuration

  1. On the control panel, press SETTING.
  2. Select Reports and press OK.
  3. Select Configuration and press OK.
  4. Confirm printing.

Keep the report until the update is complete. If the device is used for network scanning, sending e-mail or faxing, also save the current network settings, address book and speed-dial list. Do not perform a factory reset before the update.

Step 2. Check the MFP Administrator Password

The program will ask for the administrator password of the device itself. This is not the Windows password, the computer sign-in PIN, the Wi-Fi password or the e-mail password.

  1. On the control panel, open SETTING > Admin Setup.
  2. Enter the known administrator password.
  3. If the menu opens, you can use this password in Firmware Update Tool.

For this family of devices, the original factory password is aaaaaa. It will work only if it was not changed during device setup. In the web interface, the factory administrator name is root.

Do not reset the MFP just because the password is unknown

A reset may remove network, e-mail, fax and other working settings. If aaaaaa is not accepted, ask the administrator or the organization that maintains the device for the current password.

Step 3. Download Firmware Update Tool for Windows

For Windows 10 and Windows 11, use the following file:

FWUP_020002_0_322775.exe

This is Firmware Update Tool version 2.0.2. The specified file size is 3,522,272 bytes. The file is available on the Firmware update tool for Windows page. The interface of this version supports Brazilian Portuguese, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish.

If a newer version has already been published on the page, use the newer file from the same official page. Do not download an older copy simply because its name matches the one in this article.

  1. Wait until the download has finished completely.
  2. Make sure the file has the .exe extension and its name matches the one shown on the download page.
  3. Do not extract the contents of the self-extracting file and do not replace any components inside it. Run the original .exe file.

Step 4. Prepare the MFP and Computer

Prepare the Device

  1. Finish all printing, copying, scanning and faxing.
  2. Remove any remaining jobs from the print queue.
  3. Clear paper jams, toner warnings and other errors.
  4. Wait until the device is ready.
  5. If a fax telephone line is connected to the MFP, disconnect the telephone cable. Do not disconnect the power cable.
  6. Ask other users not to access the device until the update is complete.

Prepare the Computer

  1. Connect the laptop to AC power.
  2. Close printing, scanning and other applications.
  3. Disconnect the VPN during a network update.
  4. Do not start the update through a remote session that may disconnect.
  5. Do not allow the computer to enter sleep mode.

Disable Sleep in Windows 11

  1. Open Start > Settings > System > Power & battery.
  2. Expand Screen and sleep.
  3. For sleep while plugged in, temporarily select Never.

Disable Sleep in Windows 10

  1. Open Start > Settings > System > Power & sleep.
  2. Under Sleep, temporarily select Never for plugged-in operation.

After a successful update, you can restore the previous sleep timeout.

Step 5. Choose the Most Reliable Connection

ConnectionWhen to Use ItWhat to Avoid
Wired networkThe MFP already works reliably over Ethernet and has a permanent IPv4 addressVPN, guest network, client isolation and an unstable cable
Wi-FiThe signal is stable and wired or USB connection is unavailableWeak signal, switching between access points and restarting the router
USBNetwork discovery does not work or the network is managed by an organizationUSB hub, docking station, monitor, damaged or excessively long cable

If the MFP normally works over Wi-Fi but is temporarily connected by Ethernet for the update, you will need to restore the previous network connection method afterward.

Step 6. Perform a Normal Online Update

  1. Double-click the FWUP_020002_0_322775.exe file.
  2. If the User Account Control window appears, click Yes.
  3. Select the preferred interface language and click OK.
  4. Read the license agreement. If you accept it, select I agree and click Next.
  5. Read the warnings and click Next.
  6. Select The latest version of the firmware will be downloaded from the server and updated automatically.
  7. Click Next.
  8. In the Access Point field, select Network or USB.
  9. Click Start search.
  10. In the upper list, select the exact model.
  11. In the lower list, select the check box next to the serial number of the required device.
  12. Click Next.
  13. Enter the MFP administrator password.
  14. Click Start update.
  15. When confirmation that the update has started appears, click OK.
  16. Do not use the computer or MFP until the completion message appears and the device restarts automatically.

After clicking Start update, do not disconnect the power

Do not turn off the MFP using its power button, unplug it from the outlet or disconnect the power cable. Do not disconnect the USB or network cable, restart the computer or close the program even if the progress indicator does not change for some time.

If Firmware Update Tool Does Not Detect the MFP over the Network

Step 1. Check the IP Address in a Browser

  1. Make sure the computer and MFP are connected to the same normal local network.
  2. Disconnect the VPN.
  3. Do not use a guest Wi-Fi network where devices are isolated from each other.
  4. Enter the recorded IP address in the browser address bar:
http://192.168.1.40

If the OKI web page opens, a network connection exists. If the page does not open, check the address again, the Ethernet cable, Wi-Fi connection, subnet mask and gateway. Do not proceed with the update until the connection is stable.

Successfully opening the web page or receiving a ping reply is only a basic check. Firmware Update Tool may still fail to find the device if its IP address is outside the search range or SNMP is disabled.

Step 2. Add the IP Address Manually

  1. In Firmware Update Tool, select Network in the Access Point field.
  2. Click Environment setting.
  3. Open the Device communications tab.
  4. Find the Network search range section.
  5. Enter the MFP’s IPv4 address, for example 192.168.1.40.
  6. Click Add.
  7. Make sure the address appears in the search range list.
  8. Click OK.
  9. In the main window, click Start search.

Enter the address of the MFP itself, not the router, computer or network port from the print queue if that port points to an old address.

Step 3. Enable SNMP on the MFP Control Panel

  1. Press SETTING.
  2. Select Admin Setup.
  3. Enter the administrator password and confirm the sign-in.
  4. Open Network Menu.
  5. Select Network Setup.
  6. Open Network Setting.
  7. Find SNMP.
  8. Set it to Enable.
  9. Save the change. If the device asks to restart its network functions, wait until it returns to the ready state.
  10. Close Firmware Update Tool, start it again, add the IP address again and click Start search.

Enable SNMP Through the Web Page

If using the control panel is inconvenient, you can check the setting in a browser:

  1. Open http://MFP-IP-address.
  2. Sign in as an administrator. For unchanged factory settings, use the name root and password aaaaaa.
  3. Open Admin Setup > Network > Security > Protocol ON/OFF.
  4. Set SNMP to Enable and click Submit.
  5. Wait for the network subsystem to restart and repeat the search by IP address.

Do not change the SNMP version, community name or SNMPv3 settings unless necessary. To resolve this problem, it is usually enough to restore the main SNMP setting to Enable.

Step 4. Check Network Restrictions

  • During the search, connect the computer to the same access point or network segment as the MFP.
  • Do not perform the update through a guest network.
  • If the network is divided into VLANs, communication between segments may be blocked even when printing is allowed by a separate rule.
  • On a managed network, ask the administrator to allow Firmware Update Tool to communicate with the MFP’s IP address and to allow SNMP.
  • Do not completely disable the firewall or antivirus software. If an organization policy blocks the program, use an approved exception or a direct USB connection.

If the MFP Is Not Detected over USB

Step 1. Reconnect the Device Directly

  1. Before firmware transfer begins, close Firmware Update Tool.
  2. Remove jobs from the print queue and close scanning applications.
  3. Disconnect the USB cable from the computer and MFP.
  4. Connect the cable directly to a USB port on the computer. Do not use a hub, docking station, monitor or extension cable.
  5. If possible, use a short, known-good data cable.
  6. Wait until the MFP is ready and Windows reacts to the connection.
  7. Start Firmware Update Tool again.
  8. In the Access Point field, select USB and click Start search.

Step 2. Check Detection in Windows

  1. Right-click the Start button.
  2. Open Device Manager.
  3. Expand Printers, Software devices and Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  4. Find OKI, the model name or an unknown USB device that appears after connecting the cable.
  • If nothing appears when the cable is connected, replace the cable and try another USB port. Reinstalling Firmware Update Tool will not fix a missing physical connection.
  • If an unknown device or yellow warning icon is displayed, disconnect the cable, restart Windows and the MFP, then connect the cable to another port.
  • If Windows detects the OKI and USB printing works but the update program still does not find the device, make sure the MFP is not busy, close all OKI programs and repeat the search after restarting the computer.

Removing a working print queue or repeatedly reinstalling the normal driver rarely fixes Firmware Update Tool detection. First rule out the cable, port, device busy state and errors on the control panel.

Administrator Password Error

The Administrator password authentication error message means that communication with the device has already been established, but the entered password was rejected.

  1. Do not enter the Windows, Wi-Fi or e-mail account password.
  2. Check the keyboard layout and Caps Lock state.
  3. Try opening SETTING > Admin Setup on the control panel using the same password.
  4. When checking through a browser, use the name root and the current device password.
  5. If the password has never been changed, try aaaaaa.
  6. If the password is unknown, stop trying random passwords and ask the administrator or service organization for it.

Do not perform a factory reset before the update: losing the network settings may also prevent the program from communicating with the MFP.

Firmware download error: The Program Cannot Download the Firmware

This error occurs before firmware transfer to the MFP and is usually related to the computer’s access to the server.

  1. Check whether normal websites open in a browser.
  2. Close Firmware Update Tool and download the current version of the program from the official page.
  3. Check the Windows date and time.
  4. If a corporate proxy server is used, ask the administrator to allow the program Internet access.
  5. Start the program again and once more select automatic download of the latest version from the server.

Do not replace the online update with a random Firmware Suite file. An offline update is acceptable only with a firmware package intended for the exact model and obtained from its official page or technical support.

Device connection error or Firmware send error

Device connection error means that the program could not establish normal communication with the device. Firmware send error appears when transfer has already started but did not complete. In the second case, first look at the MFP display and do not turn it off.

If Firmware Transfer Has Not Started Yet

  1. Make sure the MFP is turned on and in the ready state.
  2. Clear paper jams, toner errors and other error messages.
  3. Cancel printing, copying, scanning and faxing.
  4. Check the USB cable or network connection.
  5. Restart the program and repeat the search.

If Transfer Has Already Started

  1. Do not turn off the device.
  2. Check what message is displayed on the control panel.
  3. If Maintenance in progress is displayed, wait until the device returns to the ready state and only then repeat the update.
  4. If Firmware update error is displayed, follow the steps in the next section.

What to Do If Update timeout Appears

A timeout message does not always mean that the update has stopped. The program may have lost communication while the MFP itself continues writing the firmware. The correct action depends on the message shown on the control panel.

What the MFP DisplaysWhat to Do
Maintenance in progressThe update is still in progress. Do not press anything or disconnect the power, and wait for the automatic restart. After the device returns to the ready state, reconnect the program and check the versions.
Firmware update errorWithout turning off the MFP, start Firmware Update Tool again and repeat the update. If the second attempt also fails, stop and contact service support.
The MFP restarted automatically and shows the ready stateReconnect to the device, check CU Version and PU Version, then perform a test print. Do not start the update again until you have checked the result.
The screen does not change, the device does not restart and it is unclear whether writing is still in progressDo not unplug the device from the outlet. Record the message and indicator status, then contact service support for instructions for this model.

The most dangerous mistake is turning off the MFP during Maintenance in progress

Even if the program window on the computer reports a timeout, follow the status of the device itself. While maintenance or updating is shown on the control panel, the power must not be disconnected.

Update error 1: The Device Is Not Ready for the Update

This error is usually related to the MFP’s current state or an incorrectly selected firmware package.

  1. Cancel all printing, copying and scanning jobs.
  2. Clear paper jams, toner errors and other error messages.
  3. Disconnect the fax telephone cable.
  4. Wait until the device is ready.
  5. If Maintenance in progress is displayed on the control panel, wait until maintenance is complete.
  6. Start the update again and select automatic download of the latest version from the server.

If a local Firmware Suite was selected previously, the cause may be a damaged file or firmware for a different model. Do not try to repair such a file and do not continue updating with it.

Update error 2: Lost Connection or Device Error

This error may occur because of data loss during transfer, a hardware fault or a damaged firmware package.

  1. Do not turn off the MFP.
  2. If Firmware update error is shown on the control panel, start Firmware Update Tool again.
  3. Use a reliable direct USB or wired network connection.
  4. Select automatic firmware download from the server and repeat the update.
  5. If the error occurs again, do not perform any more updates and contact service support.

If a Very Old Device Is Not Detected over Either Network or USB

Sometimes the MFP prints, scans and opens its web page, but a modern Firmware Update Tool cannot establish communication with it. After checking the manual IP address, SNMP and a direct USB connection, continuing to try random programs becomes unsafe.

  1. Write down the exact model and serial number.
  2. Write down CU Version, PU Version and the NIC Program Version value under SETTING > View Information > Network.
  3. Record the Firmware Update Tool version and connection method.
  4. Save a screenshot of the program message.
  5. State that manual IP search, SNMP and USB have already been checked.
  6. Provide this information to technical support or an authorized service center.

Very old firmware may require an intermediate version or a service tool. The correct option must be determined from the exact model and installed versions. Do not use a utility for a similar OKI model, do not copy an unknown .bin file to a USB drive and do not use service key combinations found on the Internet.

Check After a Successful Update

  1. Wait for the automatic restart and the ready state.
  2. Open SETTING > View Information > System Information.
  3. Write down CU Version and PU Version again.
  4. Compare the values with those recorded before the update.
  5. Print one test page.
  6. If the scanner is used, perform a simple scan from the computer.
  7. Check the network IP address and make sure the MFP’s web page opens.
  8. If Wi-Fi was temporarily replaced by a wired connection for the update, restore the previous connection method.
  9. Reconnect the fax telephone line.
  10. Restore the previous Windows sleep settings.

If Printing or Network Access Disappears After the Update

  1. Compare the current IPv4 address with the address in the saved configuration.
  2. If the address changed, correct the printer port in Windows or restore the device’s previous permanent address.
  3. Check whether the MFP remained in wired network mode after temporarily switching from Wi-Fi.
  4. Open the web page using the current IP address.
  5. Test printing before reinstalling any drivers.

Do not perform a factory reset just because the print queue stopped working. First restore the connection method and IP address using the saved configuration report.
