Important

This is a software update for the computer. It is not a printer firmware update.

You do not need to update the printer firmware to address CVE-2026-1585. You need to install the new MP Drivers package in Windows.

Which Versions of IJ Scan Utility Need to Be Updated

The vulnerability is present in the following versions of IJ Scan Utility for Windows:

Versions 1.1.2 through 1.5.0, inclusive

After the update, the following version should be installed:

Version 1.6.0 or later

Versions 2.0, 2.1, 2.2, and other versions with higher numbers are also newer than version 1.6.0.

Canon assigned the vulnerability a base severity score of 8.4 out of 10 and recommends installing the latest MP Driver.

What This Vulnerability Means

The issue is related to how IJ Scan Utility registers one of the Windows services. Under certain conditions, a malicious file could be executed with elevated privileges.

Having an older version of IJ Scan Utility does not mean that the computer is already infected. However, it is recommended that you update the application even if printing and scanning are working normally.

How to Check the Installed Version of IJ Scan Utility

  1. Close IJ Scan Utility if it is open.
  2. Press Windows + R on the keyboard.
  3. Enter the following command:
    appwiz.cpl
  4. Click OK.
  5. The Programs and Features window will open.
  6. Find Canon IJ Scan Utility or IJ Scan Utility in the list.
  7. Check the number in the Version column.

If the Version column is not visible, maximize the window or increase its width.

An update is required if the installed version is between 1.1.2 and 1.5.0.

If IJ Scan Utility is not listed, the application may not have been installed correctly, or Windows may be using only a standard printer driver. In this case, it is also recommended that you install the complete MP Drivers Ver. 1.06 package.

  5. Restart the computer after the process is complete.

  1. After restarting, do not connect the USB cable.
  2. Run the md__-win-ts9500-1_06-ea34_2.exe file as an administrator.
  3. Complete the installation.
  4. For a USB connection, connect the cable only after the installer displays a prompt.
  5. Restart the computer again after the installation is complete.
  6. Check the IJ Scan Utility version.

Uninstalling IJ Scan Utility does not delete the user’s scanned documents, photos, or PDF files.

Do I Need to Update the Driver If I Do Not Use IJ Scan Utility?

Yes. If IJ Scan Utility is installed on the computer and its version is between 1.1.2 and 1.5.0, Canon recommends updating MP Drivers.

Even if you scan using another application, the vulnerable component may remain installed in Windows.

Do I Need to Update the Driver on Every Computer?

If one printer is used with several computers, the update must be installed separately on every Windows computer that has an older version of IJ Scan Utility installed.

Updating the application on one computer does not update it on the other computers.

What If the Printer Is Used Only for Printing?

You can uninstall IJ Scan Utility and keep only the printer driver. However, for an inexperienced user, it is easier to install the latest MP Drivers Ver. 1.06 package. This will make both printing and scanning available.
