The Canon TS9500 Series printer may not be detected during installation, may stop printing after the router is restarted, or may appear in Windows with the status Offline. The problem is usually caused by the Wi-Fi settings, a changed IP address, or an incorrectly created network port.
This guide applies to the following models:
- Canon PIXMA TS9540;
- Canon PIXMA TS9540A;
- Canon PIXMA TS9541C;
- Canon PIXMA TS9550;
- Canon PIXMA TS9550A;
- Canon PIXMA TS9551C;
- Canon PIXMA TS9551CA.
All the models listed above belong to the Canon TS9500 series and use the same network applications and MP Drivers package.
First, determine when the problem started
If the printer has never been connected to your network, start with the Reconnect the Printer to Wi-Fi section.
If the printer worked previously but now appears to be disconnected, start with the basic checks and network connection diagnostics.
Method 1: Perform a Basic Restart
This method may help if the printer worked previously but suddenly became unavailable.
- Turn off the printer using the power button.
- Turn off the computer.
- Unplug the router from the power outlet.
- Wait approximately 30 seconds.
- Plug the router back into the power outlet.
- Wait until the Internet connection is fully restored. This usually takes one to three minutes.
- Turn on the printer.
- Wait approximately one minute.
- Turn on the computer.
- Try printing a document.
If the printer is still not detected, continue troubleshooting.
Method 2: Check the Network on the Computer
Step 1: Check the Wi-Fi Network Name
- Click the network icon in the lower-right corner of the Windows screen.
- Check the name of the network to which the computer is connected.
- Remember or write down this name.
The computer and printer must be connected to the same router and the same home or office network.
Do not use a network with any of the following words in its name:
- Guest;
- Public;
- Hotspot;
- Mobile;
- Direct.
A guest network often prevents connected devices from communicating with each other. Internet access may work, but the computer will not detect the printer.
Step 2: Temporarily Disable the VPN
If a VPN is being used on the computer:
- Open the VPN application.
- Click Disconnect.
- Search for the printer again.
You can enable the VPN again after setup is complete.
Step 3: Check the Windows Network Profile
Windows 11
- Open Start.
- Click Settings.
- Open Network & internet.
- Click Wi-Fi.
- Click the name of the connected network.
- Under Network profile type, select Private network.
Windows 10
- Open Start.
- Click Settings.
- Open Network & Internet.
- Select Wi-Fi.
- Click the name of the connected network.
- Select the Private network profile.
On a private network, Windows allows printers and other devices to be discovered.
Method 3: Check the Printer’s Wi-Fi Connection
Check the network icon on the printer’s touchscreen.
- If the Wi-Fi icon appears normally, the printer is connected to the wireless network.
- If the icon is crossed out or missing, the connection to the router has been lost.
- If the Wireless Direct icon is displayed, the printer may be connected directly to a phone or computer rather than to the home router.
Wireless Direct and standard Wi-Fi are different connection methods
For regular printing from several computers and phones, it is recommended that you connect the printer to your home or office router. Wireless Direct should be used only for a temporary direct connection without a router.
Method 4: Reconnect the Printer to Wi-Fi
Use this method if:
- the printer is being installed for the first time;
- the router was replaced;
- the network name was changed;
- the Wi-Fi password was changed;
- the printer no longer shows a network connection.
Step 1: Enable Easy Wireless Connect
- Turn on the printer.
- Wait for the Home screen to appear.
- Tap the network icon on the touchscreen.
- Open Wi-Fi.
- Tap Wi-Fi setup.
- Select Easy wireless connect.
- Confirm that you want to start the setup.
A message will appear indicating that setup must be completed on a computer or mobile device.
Step 2: Run the Canon Installer on the Computer
If the MP Drivers package is not installed yet, download it:
Download Canon TS9500 series MP Drivers Ver. 1.06
File name:
md__-win-ts9500-1_06-ea34_2.exe
- Open the Downloads folder.
- Right-click the md__-win-ts9500-1_06-ea34_2.exe file.
- Select Run as administrator.
- If the User Account Control window appears, click Yes.
- Click Next.
- Accept the license agreement.
- Select the Wi-Fi connection method.
- Allow Canon applications to access the network if a firewall notification appears.
- Wait for the printer to be detected.
- Select Canon TS9500 series.
- Click Next.
- Select the name of your home or office Wi-Fi network.
- Enter the Wi-Fi password.
- Wait while the settings are transferred to the printer.
The password is case-sensitive. Do not confuse the number 0 with the letter O, or the number 1 with the letters I and l.
After the printer connects successfully, the installer will continue installing the printer and scanner drivers.
If the Router Uses Both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Networks
Use the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network to set up the printer.
On some routers, the networks have different names, for example:
Home_WiFi Home_WiFi_5G
In this example, select Home_WiFi for the printer, not Home_WiFi_5G.
If both frequency bands use the same network name:
- Move the printer closer to the router.
- Repeat the Easy wireless connect procedure.
- If the printer does not connect, temporarily separate the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks in the router settings.
- Connect the printer to the 2.4 GHz network.
The names of the sections in the router settings vary by manufacturer. If you are not sure how to separate the networks, refer to the router’s instructions.
Method 5: Use Wi-Fi Connection Assistant
Wi-Fi Connection Assistant checks:
- whether the computer is connected to the router;
- whether the printer is detected on the network;
- whether the Wi-Fi signal strength is sufficient;
- whether the printer port matches the current IP address;
- whether the network connection can be repaired automatically.
In older Canon guides, this application may be called IJ Network Device Setup Utility. This is the former name of Canon’s network utility.
How to Run the Diagnostics
- Turn on the printer.
- Connect the computer to your home or office network.
- Disable the VPN.
- Open the Start menu.
- Find the Canon Utilities folder.
- Start Wi-Fi Connection Assistant.
- If a User Account Control prompt appears, click Yes.
- In the application window, select Diagnose and Repair.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
- If the application offers to repair the network port, confirm the repair.
After the diagnostics are complete, close the application and try printing again.
If Wi-Fi Connection Assistant Is Not Installed
Download the latest version of the application from the official Canon support page for your model.
The installation file name may look like this:
ndsu-win-1_70_0-ea34_2.exe
- Close all Canon applications.
- Run the downloaded file as an administrator.
- Accept the license agreement.
- Complete the installation.
- Open Start → Canon Utilities → Wi-Fi Connection Assistant.
Method 6: Disable Use Printer Offline
Sometimes the printer is connected to the network, but Windows continues to show the Offline status.
Windows 11
- Open Start.
- Click Settings.
- Open Bluetooth & devices.
- Click Printers & scanners.
- Select Canon TS9500 series.
- Click Open print queue.
- Open the Printer menu.
- If Use Printer Offline is selected, clear the checkbox.
- If Pause Printing is selected, clear the checkbox.
Windows 10
- Open Start.
- Click Settings.
- Open Devices.
- Click Printers & scanners.
- Select Canon TS9500 series.
- Click Open queue.
- Open the Printer menu.
- Clear the Use Printer Offline and Pause Printing checkboxes if they are selected.
Method 7: Clear a Stuck Print Queue
- Open the Canon TS9500 series print queue.
- Right-click each stuck print job.
- Select Cancel.
- If the jobs cannot be removed, press Windows + R.
- Enter:
services.msc
- Click OK.
- Find the Print Spooler service.
- Right-click it.
- Select Restart.
- Close the Services window.
- Try printing again.
Method 8: Remove Duplicate Printer Entries
After several installation attempts, different devices may appear in Windows:
- Canon TS9500 series;
- Canon TS9500 series Copy 1;
- Canon TS9500 series WS;
- Canon TS9500 series Network;
- Canon TS9500 series with a different status or port.
Documents may be sent to an old or disconnected printer entry.
- Open Settings.
- Open Printers & scanners.
- Find all Canon TS9500 series entries.
- Open each entry and check its status.
- Keep the device that is shown as ready.
- Remove old copies that constantly show the Offline status.
- Select the working printer.
- Set it as the default printer.
If you are not sure which entry works, print a test page from each copy first.
Method 9: Add the Printer by IP Address
This method is useful if the printer is connected to the network and visible in Wi-Fi Connection Assistant, but Windows cannot find it automatically.
Step 1: Find the Printer’s IP Address
You can view the IP address in Wi-Fi Connection Assistant or print the network information from the printer’s menu.
An IP address usually looks like this:
192.168.1.25
Write down the address. You will need it in the next step.
Step 2: Add the Printer Manually
Windows 11
- Open Settings.
- Open Bluetooth & devices.
- Click Printers & scanners.
- Click Add device.
- Wait for the search to finish.
- Next to The printer that I want isn’t listed, click Add manually.
- Select Add a printer using an IP address or hostname.
- Click Next.
- In the Device type field, select TCP/IP Device.
- In the Hostname or IP address field, enter the printer’s IP address.
- Click Next.
- After the printer is detected, select the Canon TS9500 series driver.
- Complete the printer setup.
Windows 10
- Open Settings.
- Open Devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Click Add a printer or scanner.
- Wait for the search to finish.
- Click The printer that I want isn’t listed.
- Select Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname.
- Enter the printer’s IP address.
- Select the Canon TS9500 series driver.
- Complete the installation.
A connection through a standard TCP/IP port is usually more stable than an automatically created WSD port.
Method 10: Check Windows Firewall
- Open the Start menu.
- Enter Windows Security.
- Open the application found in the search results.
- Open Firewall & network protection.
- Click Allow an app through firewall.
- Click Change settings.
- Find Canon, IJ Network, or Wi-Fi Connection Assistant applications.
- Allow them to communicate on private networks.
- Click OK.
If you use third-party antivirus software with its own firewall, temporarily pause its network protection and search for the printer again. Be sure to enable the protection again after the test.
After Replacing the Router or Changing the Wi-Fi Password
The old network settings remain stored in the printer’s memory. Reinstalling only the driver on the computer will not resolve the problem.
You need to:
- Connect the printer to the new network using Easy wireless connect.
- Run the MP Drivers installer or Wi-Fi Connection Assistant.
- Select the new network name.
- Enter the new password.
- Wait for the connection to be completed successfully.
- If necessary, remove the old printer entry from Windows.
- Add the device again.
If the Printer Becomes Unavailable Again Periodically
The router is probably assigning a different IP address to the printer from time to time. Windows continues to use the old address and shows the Offline status.
For a permanent solution, you can reserve the printer’s IP address in the router settings. This feature may be called:
- DHCP Reservation;
- Address Reservation;
- Static Lease;
- IP-MAC Binding.
After the address is reserved, the printer will receive the same IP address each time.
If you are not sure how to configure the router, first use the Diagnose and Repair feature in Wi-Fi Connection Assistant.
Method 11: Reset Only the Printer’s Network Settings
Use the reset only after the other methods have failed. After the reset, the printer will forget the network name and Wi-Fi password.
- Turn on the printer.
- Open Setup on the touchscreen.
- Open Device settings.
- Select Reset setting.
- Select the option to reset the LAN or network settings.
- Confirm the reset.
- Wait for the operation to finish.
- Reconnect the printer using Easy wireless connect.
Do not select a complete reset of all settings if you only need to remove the old Wi-Fi settings.
Using Ethernet Instead of Wi-Fi
If the wireless connection is unstable, you can connect the printer to the router using an Ethernet network cable.
- Turn off the printer.
- Connect the Ethernet cable to the network port on the back of the printer.
- Connect the other end of the cable to a LAN port on the router.
- Turn on the printer.
- Wait approximately one minute.
- Run the MP Drivers installer.
- Select a wired LAN connection.
- Select the detected Canon TS9500 series printer.
- Complete the installation.
A wired Ethernet connection and a standard Wi-Fi connection cannot be used at the same time. When you switch to Ethernet, the printer’s wireless connection is disabled.
How to Check the Result
- Open Settings.
- Open Printers & scanners.
- Select Canon TS9500 series.
- Open Printer properties.
- Click Print Test Page.
Then test scanning:
- Open the Start menu.
- Find IJ Scan Utility.
- Start the application.
- Select Canon TS9500 series Network if several devices are available.
- Place a document on the scanner glass.
- Click Document or Auto.
If printing works but IJ Scan Utility cannot detect the scanner, this is a separate network scanning configuration issue. You do not need to reset Wi-Fi again or reconfigure the router.
