Installing the HP LaserJet P2014 and P2014n Driver in Windows 11 and Windows 10

The HP LaserJet P2014 and P2014n can be used in Windows 11 and Windows 10, but it is important to select the correct driver and connection method for these printers. The P2014 is normally connected via USB, while the P2014n also has an Ethernet network port.

Below are separate instructions for Windows 11 and Windows 10, along with solutions for situations in which the installer does not detect the printer, Windows reports “Driver is unavailable,” the USB001 port is missing or a network-connected P2014n appears offline.

Important for Windows 11 ARM64. HP does not provide a separate ARM64 driver for the P2014/P2014n. First try adding the printer using the standard Windows tools. If Windows does not offer a compatible driver, reliable installation on ARM64 may not be possible.

Installing the HP LaserJet P2014 or P2014n in Windows 11 via USB

HP does not list Windows 11 as a supported operating system for these models. Therefore, it is recommended that you first install the signed Class Driver available through Windows Update. It provides basic printing functions and does not require you to run the old HP program, ljP2010-HB-pnp-win64-en.exe.

Step 1. Let Windows detect the USB printer

Turn on the printer and wait for the Ready state.
Connect the USB cable directly to the computer.
Wait 1–2 minutes.
Open Start → Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
Check whether the HP LaserJet P2014 or P2014n appears. If there is no error message next to the printer, open its properties and print a test page.

Step 2. Add the Class Driver manually

If Windows detected the device but displays the “Driver is unavailable” message, install the driver manually.

Open Start → Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
Click Add device.
Wait for the search to finish. Then click Add manually next to the “The printer that I want isn’t listed” message.
Select Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings and click Next.
Select Use an existing port.
For a USB connection, select the USB001 port. If several USB ports exist, first select the port created after the printer was connected.
In the manufacturer and model selection window, click Windows Update.
Wait for the list to update. Downloading may take 5–10 minutes; do not close the wizard.
In the left column, select HP.
For the P2014, select HP LaserJet P2014 Class Driver; for the P2014n, select HP LaserJet P2014n Class Driver.
If Windows offers to replace the driver that is already installed, first select Replace the current driver if the previous installation failed.
Enter a clear printer name and complete the wizard.
Open Printer properties and click Print Test Page.

If the test page prints correctly, the driver installation is complete. If you encounter problems, continue reading.

Windows 11: installing the Host Based driver

Use this option if the Class Driver is not listed, does not print or does not provide the required settings.

Remove the non-working P2014/P2014n queue from “Printers & scanners”.
Disconnect the printer’s USB cable from the computer.
Open Start → Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
Select the P2014/P2014n or a non-working printer instance with a similar name.
Click Remove and confirm the removal.
Restart the computer.
Right-click ljP2010-HB-pnp-win64-en.exe and select Run as administrator.
Confirm the User Account Control prompt.
Wait for the files to be extracted and the HP wizard to start.
Accept the license agreement and click Next.
Do not connect the USB cable beforehand. Connect it only when prompted by the installer.
Wait for the printer to be detected and for setup to finish.
Restart the computer and print a test page.

If the wizard waits indefinitely for the printer to be connected, do not reconnect it repeatedly. Close the installer, disconnect the cable and proceed to the “The installer asks you to connect the printer but does not detect it” section.

Network installation of the HP LaserJet P2014n in Windows 11

This section is only for the P2014n with built-in Ethernet. The automatic Plug and Play installer in the provided file does not perform a network installation, so the printer must be added by its IP address.

Step 1. Find the P2014n’s IP address

Connect the Ethernet cable to the printer and the router or switch.
Make sure that the link indicator on the printer’s network port lights up.
Wait until the Ready indicator remains steadily lit.
Press and hold the green Go button for approximately 5 seconds. There must be no jobs in progress in the queue.
Find the IP address on the printed configuration page, for example 192.168.1.25.
Enter this address in the browser’s address bar. If the embedded HP web page opens, the network connection is working.

Step 2. Create a Standard TCP/IP port

Open Start → Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
Click Add device, wait for the search to finish and select Add manually.
Select Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings.
Select Create a new port.
In the list of port types, select Standard TCP/IP Port.
Enter the IP address from the configuration page. You can leave the port name suggested by Windows unchanged.
Wait for the network device to be detected. If Windows asks you to select a device type, use Generic Network Card.
Click Windows Update and, after the list is updated, select HP → HP LaserJet P2014n Class Driver.
Complete the wizard and print a test page.

Installing the HP LaserJet P2014 or P2014n in Windows 10 via USB

For Windows 10 x64, the main option is the Host Based Plug and Play driver (ljP2010-HB-pnp-win64-en.exe). Its installer is designed for a USB connection.

Step 1. Remove the unsuccessfully installed device

If the printer has not previously been connected to this computer, start with the next step. If the USB cable has already been connected and Windows attempted to install the printer automatically, first remove the queue it created.

Disconnect the USB cable from the computer.
Open Start → Settings → Devices → Printers & scanners.
Select the HP LaserJet P2014, P2014n or a similar non-working instance.
Click Remove device and confirm the action.
Remove any other non-working duplicates of the HP LaserJet P2014 or P2014n that appeared after previous attempts.
Restart the computer with the USB cable disconnected.

Step 2. Install the driver

Disconnect the USB cable from the computer. The printer can remain turned on.
Close any programs used for printing.
Right-click the driver file and select Run as administrator.
Click Yes in the User Account Control window.
Wait for the installation files to be extracted.
Accept the terms of the license agreement.
Click Next and follow the wizard’s instructions.
When prompted to connect the printer, connect the USB cable directly to the computer.
Wait for device detection to finish. Do not turn off the printer or disconnect the cable.
Complete the installation and restart the computer.

Step 3. Test printing in Windows 10

Open Start → Settings → Devices → Printers & scanners.
Select the HP LaserJet P2014 or P2014n.
Click Manage → Printer properties.
On the General tab, click Print Test Page.

If the test page prints correctly, the driver installation is complete. If you encounter problems, continue reading.

Windows 10: installation through Windows Update

Use this method if the old installer does not start or does not detect the USB printer.

Connect the powered-on printer via USB and wait 1–2 minutes.
Open Start → Settings → Devices → Printers & scanners.
Click Add a printer or scanner.
After the search is complete, select The printer that I want isn’t listed.
Select Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings.
Specify the existing USB001 port.
Click Windows Update and wait for the list to update completely.
Select HP as the manufacturer and the exact model: HP LaserJet P2014 Class Driver or HP LaserJet P2014n Class Driver.
Complete the wizard and print a test page.

Network installation of the HP LaserJet P2014n in Windows 10

Connect the printer to the router or switch with an Ethernet cable.
With the Ready indicator lit, hold the Go button for approximately 5 seconds.
Find the IP address on the configuration page and check it in a browser.
Open Start → Settings → Devices → Printers & scanners.
Click Add a printer or scanner, and then click The printer that I want isn’t listed.
Select the option to add a local or network printer manually.
Create a new Standard TCP/IP Port.
Enter the P2014n’s IP address.
Click Windows Update and select HP LaserJet P2014n Class Driver.
Complete the installation and print a test page.

Troubleshooting installation and printing problems

The installer asks you to connect the printer but does not detect it

Close the installer and disconnect the USB cable.
Turn off the printer for 10 seconds, then turn it on again and wait for the Ready state.
Restart the computer.
Run the driver as an administrator while the USB cable is disconnected.
Connect the cable only when prompted by the wizard.
If the printer is not detected, try another USB port and another working cable.
Do not use a USB hub, a keyboard port, a monitor with USB ports or a docking station.
If the installation stops again, use the Class Driver through Windows Update.

Windows reports “Driver is unavailable”

Disconnect the USB cable.
Remove the non-working printer from “Printers & scanners”.
Press Win+X → Device Manager.
Check the Printers, Print queues and Other devices sections.
Remove only the HP LaserJet P2014/P2014n or the unknown device with a warning icon that appeared after this printer was connected. Do not remove the other USB controllers.
Restart the computer.
Install the exact Class Driver through Windows Update or repeat the Host Based driver installation with the cable disconnected.

USB001 port is missing

USB001 is created after Windows correctly detects the connected printer. Do not create an arbitrary USB port manually.

Make sure that the printer is turned on and the Ready indicator is steadily lit.
Connect the cable directly to another USB port on the computer.
Wait at least one minute.
Open Device Manager and check whether a new device appears when the cable is connected.
If no device appears, replace the USB cable.
After the device appears, open the printer addition wizard again and check the port list.

The model is missing after clicking “Windows Update”

Make sure that the computer is connected to the internet.
Click Windows Update again and wait 5–10 minutes.
If the list does not update, close the wizard and restart the computer.
Open Control Panel → Devices and Printers.
Open Print server properties → Drivers → Add.
Select the computer architecture and click Windows Update.
Add the exact HP LaserJet P2014 Class Driver or P2014n Class Driver.
After adding the driver, return to “Printers & scanners” and create the queue on USB001 or a Standard TCP/IP Port.

If necessary, you can check driver availability in the Microsoft Update Catalog. Select a package only for your computer’s architecture.

Device Manager displays code 10 or an unknown USB device

Disconnect the printer.
Remove only the non-working device with code 10.
Do not install the P2015 driver or select a random HP model.
Restart the computer.
Try another USB cable and port.
In Windows 11, install the Class Driver first. In Windows 10, first run the Host Based installer and connect the cable when prompted.

The old driver stopped working after a Windows update

Remove the non-working printer queue.
Open Settings → Apps and find HP LaserJet P2010 Series.
If the program is present and is used only by this printer, uninstall it.
Restart the computer.
In Windows 11, install the Class Driver through Windows Update.
In Windows 10, reinstall the provided package.

Do not disable Windows security features. If the system blocks the old driver, do not disable SmartScreen, digital signature verification or “Memory integrity.” Use the HP LaserJet P2014/P2014n Class Driver through Windows Update.

Jobs remain in the queue

Open the printer queue and cancel all stuck documents.
Press Win+R, enter services.msc and press Enter.
Find the Print Spooler service.
Right-click it and select Restart.
Open Printer properties → Ports.
USB001 must be selected for a USB connection, while a Standard TCP/IP Port with the correct IP address must be selected for a network-connected P2014n.
Click Apply and print the test page again.

P2014n appears offline

Print a configuration page and check the current IP address.
Press Win+R, enter cmd and press Enter.
Enter ping IP address, substituting the printer’s address.
If there are no replies, check the network cable, port indicators, router and IP address.
If there are replies, open Printer properties → Ports.
Select the Standard TCP/IP Port with the printer’s actual address. Do not use a WSD port.
Click Configure Port. The RAW protocol and port 9100 are normally used for direct network printing.
If printing works but Windows continues to show the “Offline” status, clear the SNMP Status Enabled check box and test again.

The configuration page shows the IP address 0.0.0.0

Check the Ethernet cable connection at both ends.
Make sure that the network indicators on the printer’s port are lit or flashing.
Connect the cable to another port on the router or switch.
Turn off the printer for at least 10 seconds, and then turn it on again.
After two minutes, print the configuration page again.

Resetting the P2014n network settings. If the printer still does not obtain an address, turn it off, press the Go and Cancel buttons simultaneously, and hold them for approximately 10 seconds while turning it on. This returns the network settings to their factory defaults and deletes the previously configured static IP address. After the printer returns to the Ready state, wait two minutes and print the configuration page again.

Incorrect characters or blank pages are printed

Check the name of the installed driver.
Remove any queue created with the HP LaserJet P2015 driver, HP Universal Print Driver or another incorrect model.
Install the exact HP LaserJet P2014 Class Driver, P2014n Class Driver or the provided Host Based driver.
Assign the correct USB or TCP/IP port to the queue.
Print a test page, and then print a document from the program in which the error occurred.

After successful installation, check both a Windows test page and a regular document from a text editor or browser. If both pages print correctly, the driver and port have been selected correctly.
