If the OKI MC332, MC362 or MC562 is detected on a Mac but the job stops with the message Filter failed, simply reinstalling the old PS driver is not enough. For macOS 10.15–26, first install the main OKI driver version 2.1.3, then install the separate update version 15.0.4. After the update, the old printer queue must be removed and created again.
For normal network printing, there is a simpler option — AirPrint. It does not require driver installation and often allows you to quickly restore printing after a macOS update. However, some OKI-specific settings may be unavailable when using AirPrint. Both methods are described separately below, followed by solutions for the Stopped — “Filter failed” error, a missing printer, USB printing that does not work, and missing color or tray settings.
First choose the appropriate method
AirPrint is recommended for simple printing over a wired or wireless network. Choose the OKI PS driver for a USB connection or when you need OKI-specific color, media, tray and other device settings. Do not create several identical queues at the same time: first configure and test one.
Models This Guide Applies To
The main PS driver 2.1.3 and update 15.0.4 support the following models:
- OKI MC332dn;
- OKI MC342dn and MC342dw;
- OKI MC352dn;
- OKI MC362dn and MC362w;
- OKI MC562dn, MC562w and MC562dw;
- OKI ES3452 MFP;
- OKI ES5462 MFP and ES5462dw MFP;
- OKI MPS2731mc.
The queue and driver names will correspond to the specific model, for example OKI MC362(PS) or OKI MC562(PS). The steps for network and USB connections are different, so do not use instructions from the other subsection.
Identify the Cause by the Message or Symptom
| What Happens | What to Check First |
|---|---|
| Stopped — “Filter failed” or Stopped — “Filter failed” | Whether update 15.0.4 is installed and whether the queue was recreated after the update |
| The error appeared after a macOS update or after migrating data to a new Mac | The old queue and migrated driver components; create a new queue after the complete installation |
| The printer is in the list, but jobs remain in the queue | Queue status, a failed job, IP address accessibility and the selected driver type |
| The printer does not appear in the Add Printer window | Whether the Mac and MFP are on the same network, whether AirPrint is enabled and whether Bonjour works; if necessary, add it by IP address |
| Printing works, but color, duplex printing or tray selection is unavailable | What is selected in the “Use” field: AirPrint, generic PostScript or the exact OKI driver |
| Network printing works, but USB does not | USB cable, direct connection without a hub, whether the device appears in System Information, and the PS driver |
| The error occurs only in one application or when printing one PDF | Check the same file in Preview and print a simple document from TextEdit |
What to Prepare Before Setup
- the Mac administrator password;
- the exact macOS version;
- the connection type: network or USB;
- for a network connection — the MFP’s IPv4 address;
- two OKI installation files for macOS 10.15–26;
- a simple document for test printing.
How to Check the macOS Version
- Open Apple > About This Mac.
- Write down the version number, for example macOS 15, macOS 14 or macOS 13.
- If the version is from 10.15 to 26, use the main driver 2.1.3 and update 15.0.4.
- If macOS 10.9–10.14 is installed, go to the separate section for older systems at the end of the article. A different update is used for them.
How to Find the MFP’s IP Address
- On the MFP control panel, press the SETTING button.
- Open View Information > Network > IPv4 Address.
- Write down the address consisting of four groups of numbers, for example
192.168.1.40. - On the Mac, open a browser and enter the MFP address:
http://192.168.1.40
If the built-in OKI web page opens, the network connection to the MFP is working. If the page does not open, fix the network problem first: reinstalling the driver will not restore an unavailable connection.
Method 1. Configure AirPrint Without a Driver
AirPrint works only over the network. The MFP can be connected to the router by Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi, while the Mac can be connected by cable or Wi-Fi. A USB connection is not suitable for this method.
It is more convenient to choose AirPrint first if you only need normal document and PDF printing. If you later need missing OKI-specific settings, you can remove the AirPrint queue and install the PS driver using the second method.
Step 1. Check the Network and AirPrint on the MFP
- Make sure the Mac and MFP are connected to the same home or work network.
- Do not use a guest Wi-Fi network: devices are often isolated from each other on such networks.
- After turning on the MFP, wait 2–3 minutes for the device to connect fully to the network.
- On the control panel, press SETTING.
- Open AirPrint.
- If AirPrint is disabled, select Enable and save the change.
Step 2. Add AirPrint in macOS 13–26
- Open Apple > System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
- Click Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax.
- Open the default printer addition tab and wait for the OKI device to appear.
- Select the row with your model. For a network device, the connection type usually shows Bonjour or AirPrint.
- In the Use field, select AirPrint. Do not select OKI MC562(PS) if you are currently configuring an AirPrint queue.
- Click Add and wait for setup to finish.
Step 2. Add AirPrint in macOS 10.15–12
- Open Apple > System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Click the + button below the printer list.
- Select the MFP on the Default tab.
- Make sure AirPrint is shown in the Use field.
- Click Add.
Step 3. Test Printing
- Open the TextEdit app.
- Create a short document containing a few lines.
- Select File > Print or press Command-P.
- Select the newly created OKI AirPrint queue.
- Click Print.
If a simple document prints but the problematic PDF does not, open the PDF in Preview and try printing it again. This helps distinguish a queue problem from an error in a specific application or a damaged file.
If AirPrint Cannot Find the Printer
- Check whether the MFP’s IP address opens in a browser.
- Restart the MFP, wait 2–3 minutes and open the Add Printer window again.
- Check whether the Mac is connected to a guest network, VPN or another router.
- If the Mac can open the MFP’s web page but Bonjour does not detect it, try adding the device by IP address as described below.
Add AirPrint by IP Address
- Open System Settings > Printers & Scanners > Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax.
- Go to the IP tab.
- In the Address field, enter the MFP’s IPv4 address.
- In the Protocol field, select AirPrint if this option is available.
- Leave the Queue field empty.
- In the Use field, make sure AirPrint is selected.
- Click Add.
If AirPrint is not available in the protocol list, use the OKI PS driver and add the network printer by IP. Do not select a random model from the software list.
Method 2. Complete Installation of the OKI PS Driver in macOS 10.15–26
This method consists of two installations. Update 15.0.4 is not a standalone driver: it fixes the already installed main package. Therefore, the order of the files must not be changed.
| Order | File | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | MC562-PS-MX-DRV-213_31115.dmg | Main PS driver 2.1.3 with model descriptions and OKI settings |
| 2 | PS_OSX_150004_298034.dmg | Update 15.0.4 required for macOS 10.15–26 |
Both files are available on your model’s download page. The main package can be opened on the PS Printer Driver 2.1.3 for OKI MC332, MC362 and MC562 page. After that, download Printer Driver Updater 15.0.4.
The installer interface is available in the following languages: Japanese, English, Brazilian Portuguese, French, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, Italian, German, Spanish and Portuguese. If the macOS language is not supported, the installer may open in English.
Do not install only the first file
The main package contains an older print filter that, without the update, is incompatible with the requirements of macOS 10.15 and later versions. Reinstalling only MC562-PS-MX-DRV-213_31115.dmg does not fix Filter failed. The second file and recreating the queue are required.
Step 1. Install the Main PS Driver 2.1.3
- If you are using USB, disconnect the USB cable from the Mac. You do not need to disconnect the network cable.
- Close any open print queue windows.
- Double-click the
MC562-PS-MX-DRV-213_31115.dmgfile. - In the disk image that opens, double-click the OKI installer icon.
- Click Continue.
- Review the terms, click Continue, then Agree.
- Click Install.
- Enter the macOS administrator name and password or confirm the action using Touch ID.
- Wait for the successful installation message and close the installer.
- If a restart is requested, restart the Mac. Do not add the printer yet.
Step 2. Install the Required Update 15.0.4
- Double-click the
PS_OSX_150004_298034.dmgfile. - In the disk image that opens, run Printer Driver Updater.pkg.
- Click Continue.
- Click Install.
- Enter the macOS administrator password or confirm the action using Touch ID.
- Wait for the successful installation message.
- If the installer asks you to restart the Mac, restart it. Otherwise, continue to removing the old queue.
If the Mac asks you to install Rosetta
On a Mac with Apple silicon, click Install in the Rosetta system dialog and enter the macOS user password. Rosetta works automatically; you do not need to search for a separate application or enter Terminal commands found on the Internet. Continue installing OKI software only after the Rosetta system installation is complete.
If macOS Blocks the OKI Installer
Follow these steps only for a file downloaded from the OKI page specified above. Do not disable Gatekeeper completely and do not use commands that remove protection for all applications.
- Try to open the installer once and close the warning.
- Open Apple > System Settings > Privacy & Security.
- Scroll down to the Security section.
- Next to the message about the blocked installer, click Open Anyway.
- Confirm the launch with the user password or Touch ID.
If the name of the blocked file is different from the downloaded OKI installer, cancel the launch and download the required file again from the official page.
Step 3. Remove the Old Queue After the Update
Removal is required even if the old printer is still displayed and has the correct name. A queue created before the update may continue using the previous configuration.
macOS 13–26
- Open Apple > System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
- Click the old OKI printer.
- Click Remove Printer and confirm the removal.
- If there are several old queues for the same model, remove them one at a time.
macOS 10.15–12
- Open Apple > System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Select the old OKI queue.
- Click the − button below the list and confirm the removal.
- Remove any other duplicate queues for this model.
At this stage, do not reset the entire printing system. Simply removing one or more OKI queues does not affect other installed printers.
Step 4. Add the Network Printer with the Exact PS Driver
- Make sure the MFP is turned on and connected to the same network as the Mac.
- Open Printers & Scanners.
- In macOS 13–26, click Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax. In macOS 10.15–12, click +.
- On the default addition tab, select your OKI model with the Bonjour connection type.
- Open the Use field.
- Select the exact name of your model ending in (PS), for example OKI MC562(PS).
- If the required name is not available, do not select a similar model. Close the window and reinstall both packages in the correct order.
- Click Add.
- While the Setting up the device message is displayed, do not click Configure. Wait for the setup to finish automatically.
- If an installable options window appears, check whether the second tray and other actually installed hardware are present, then save the settings.
After adding the printer, open its information. The type field should show the exact name, for example OKI MC562(PS), not Generic PostScript Printer.
If Bonjour Cannot Find the MFP: Add the PS Driver by IP
- Find the MFP’s IPv4 address and check it in a browser.
- Open the Add Printer window and go to the IP tab.
- In the Address field, enter the MFP’s IP address.
- In the Protocol field, first select HP Jetdirect — Socket. This option uses port 9100 supported by the device.
- Leave the Queue field empty.
- Enter a clear name, for example
OKI MC562 PS. - In the Use field, select Select Software.
- In the search field, enter the model, for example
MC562. - Select the exact name OKI MC562(PS) and click OK.
- Click Add and wait for setup to finish without clicking Configure.
If port 9100 is blocked by work network rules, create a queue using the Line Printer Daemon — LPD protocol. Leave the Queue field empty at first. Do not change protocols randomly if printing is controlled by the organization’s administrator.
To prevent the IP queue from stopping after the router restarts, reserve the MFP’s current address in the router’s DHCP settings. Do not assign an arbitrary static address on the control panel until the DHCP range, subnet mask and gateway address have been checked.
Step 4. Add the Printer When Connected by USB
- After installing both packages, connect the USB cable directly to the Mac.
- Do not use a USB hub, docking station or long extension cable during the first test.
- Turn on the MFP and wait until it reaches the ready state.
- Open Printers & Scanners and click the Add Printer button.
- Select the device with the USB connection type.
- In the Use field, select the exact PS driver for your model.
- Click Add and wait for automatic setup to finish.
If the USB device is missing from the Add Printer window, hold the Option key and open Apple > System Information > USB. If the OKI name is also missing there, replace the cable or try another port. Reinstalling the driver will not fix a physically missing USB connection.
Step 5. Print a Simple Test Document
- Open TextEdit and create a document containing a few lines.
- Select File > Print.
- Select the new OKI queue ending in (PS).
- Make sure the selected paper size matches the paper loaded in the tray, for example A4.
- Click Print.
Test a complex PDF, duplex printing and special media only after a simple document prints successfully. This prevents a driver problem from being confused with an incorrect paper size or file-specific settings.
How to Fix “Stopped — Filter failed”
This message means that macOS could not process the job using one of the print queue components. It does not indicate that toner is missing and is usually not fixed by restarting the MFP itself.
Step 1. Clear the Failed Job and Check the Queue
- Open Print Center through Spotlight or click the printer icon in the Dock.
- Select the failed job and click Delete Job.
- Delete any other jobs that remain before the test document.
- If the queue is paused, click Resume.
- Send a simple document from TextEdit to print.
If the error immediately occurs again, do not send the same job repeatedly. Continue to checking the queue type.
Step 2. Check Which Driver the Queue Uses
- Open System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
- Select the faulty queue.
- Open Options & Supplies or the printer information.
- Check the type or driver name.
- If OKI MC562(PS) or the name of another exact model is shown, completely reinstall the driver and update, then recreate the queue.
- If Generic PostScript Printer is shown, remove the queue and add it again using the exact OKI driver.
- If AirPrint is shown, the OKI-specific filter is not used by this queue. Check the network and try removing and adding the AirPrint queue again.
Step 3. Perform a Complete Reinstallation Instead of Installing Over the Existing Queue
- Install
MC562-PS-MX-DRV-213_31115.dmg. - Immediately after it, install
PS_OSX_150004_298034.dmg. - If the installer requests a restart, restart the Mac.
- Remove the old OKI queue.
- Add the printer again and select the exact driver ending in (PS).
- After clicking Add, wait for setup to finish and do not click Configure.
Even if the main driver has already been installed, repeat both installers in the specified order. The presence of a file or model name in the list does not prove that the updated filter has been applied to the existing queue.
Step 4. Disable Print Dialog Extensions for Testing
If the error appears when opening the print dialog, selecting OKI-specific settings or only from certain applications, a print dialog extension may be the cause.
- Open System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
- Select the printer and click Options & Supplies.
- Select Use Generic Printer Features.
- Click OK.
- Close and reopen the application you are printing from.
- Print a simple document.
If printing works after this change, you can leave generic printer features enabled or remove the PS queue and use AirPrint. Some OKI-specific settings may not be displayed in this case.
Step 5. Create a Separate AirPrint Queue for Testing
This option is suitable only for a network connection.
- Without temporarily removing the PS queue, add the same model again.
- In the Use field, select AirPrint.
- Name the new queue, for example
OKI MC562 AirPrint. - Print a document from TextEdit.
If AirPrint prints successfully but the PS queue immediately shows Filter failed, the network and printing mechanism are working correctly. The problem is in the installed PS driver or its queue. You can temporarily use AirPrint or perform the complete installation of both packages again.
If the Printer Periodically Becomes Unavailable
- Check whether the MFP still has the same IPv4 address.
- Enter this address in a browser on the Mac.
- If the web page does not open, check the Ethernet cable, Wi-Fi connection and router status.
- If the address has changed, reserve it for the MFP in the router’s DHCP settings.
- Remove the non-working queue and add it again using the reserved IP address.
- For a work network, ask the administrator whether Bonjour/mDNS, port 9100 or LPD is allowed between the network segments being used.
Do not completely disable the router or Mac firewall. First determine which protocol the created queue uses and whether the MFP itself is accessible by IP address.
If Color, Duplex Printing or the Second Tray Is Missing
- Open System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
- Select the queue and open Options & Supplies.
- Check that the exact model driver is selected, not Generic PostScript Printer.
- Open the options tab and select only the additional hardware that is actually installed.
- If AirPrint is being used, create an OKI PS queue: some special settings may not be available with AirPrint.
- If Use Generic Printer Features is selected, temporarily clear it and reopen the print dialog. If Filter failed returns, enable generic printer features again.
Reset the Printing System Only as a Last Resort
Resetting will remove all printers from the Mac
Not only the OKI queues but also all other printers, completed job information and saved print presets will be removed. First remove only the OKI queue normally, install both packages and try AirPrint.
If the other methods did not help:
- Write down the settings of all printers that will need to be added again.
- Open Apple > System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
- Hold the Control key and click any printer in the list or an empty area of the list.
- Select Reset printing system.
- Confirm the action.
- Restart the Mac.
- First add one OKI queue: either AirPrint or the exact PS driver after installing both packages.
- Print a test document and only then add the other printers.
Separate Installation for macOS 10.9–10.14
Do not use update 15.0.4 in macOS 10.14 or earlier. Update 1.2.0 is intended for macOS 10.9–10.14.
- Install the main package
MC562-PS-MX-DRV-213_31115.dmg. - Download Printer Driver Updater 1.2.0 for macOS 10.9–10.14.
- Check the file name:
OKI PS Printer Driver Updater OSX_010200_270714.dmg. - Install update 1.2.0 after the main driver.
- Restart the Mac.
- Remove the old queue using the − button.
- Add the printer again using the + button and select the exact driver ending in (PS).
- After clicking Add, wait for setup to finish and do not click Configure.
For Mac OS X 10.3–10.8, the main driver 2.1.3 is installed without update 15.0.4 or 1.2.0. The names of windows and the printer addition procedure in these systems differ significantly from modern macOS, so the steps for macOS 10.15–26 should not be used for them.
