On the OKI support page for a single MFP, you may find four print drivers: PCL XL, PCL5, PS and XPS. They are intended for different tasks. Choosing the wrong one may result in missing settings, printing errors in certain programs, or a situation where an older installer does not detect the MFP.
This guide explains which driver is suitable for normal office printing, graphics programs and XPS documents. It also provides two installation methods: the standard OKI installer and manual installation from an INF file. The manual method is useful if automatic detection cannot find the device over USB or the network.
Quick answer
For normal printing in Windows 11, first use the model-specific PCL5 Printer Driver 1.0.7: OKI officially lists Windows 11 for this driver. In Windows 10 x64, you can choose PCL XL 1.0.4 or PCL5 for normal documents. The PS driver is mainly needed for PostScript, EPS and professional graphics programs. Choose XPS only for applications and workflows that specifically require the XPS format.
Models This Guide Applies To
The OKI model-specific packages covered in this guide are intended for the following devices:
- OKI MC332dn;
- OKI MC342dn and MC342dw;
- OKI MC352dn;
- OKI MC362dn and MC362w;
- OKI MC562dn, MC562w and MC562dw;
- OKI ES3452 MFP;
- OKI ES5462 MFP and ES5462dw MFP;
- OKI MPS2731mc.
PCL XL, PCL5, PS or XPS: Which Driver to Choose
| Driver | Suitable Tasks | Windows 11 Listed on the OKI Page |
|---|---|---|
| PCL5 1.0.7 | Regular documents, spreadsheets, accounting software and compatibility with older software | Yes |
| PCL XL 1.0.4 Listed on the website as PCL Printer Driver | Office documents in Windows 10 x64; the modern PCL XL language, which is often called PCL6 | No; Windows 10 is listed |
| PS 1.0.3 | PostScript fonts, EPS, Adobe and other graphics workflows that require PS | Yes |
| XPS 1.0.3 | Printing from XPS applications and workflows specifically built around XPS | Yes |
Do not automatically choose PCL XL just because it is called PCL6
On the current OKI page, the model-specific PCL XL 1.0.4 lists Windows 10 x64, but Windows 11 is not listed. Windows 11 is listed for PCL5 1.0.7, PS 1.0.3 and XPS 1.0.3. PCL XL may install in Windows 11, but for this version of Windows it cannot be considered an officially supported choice.
PCL is recommended for normal office documents, PS for PostScript fonts and EPS, and PCL XPS for XPS applications. The XPS driver has an additional limitation: it cannot be used for the user access control function. Therefore, XPS should not be chosen as a universal option.
Which Files Are Needed
The following packages are used for this group of models:
| Type | File | INF File Inside the Package |
|---|---|---|
| PCL5 | OKW3C04O107_40145.exe | Driver\OKW3C04O.INF |
| PCL XL | OKW3X04O104x64_40160.exe | Drivers\OKW3X04O.INF |
| PS | OKW3S04O103_40140.exe | Driver\OKW3S04O.INF |
| XPS | OKW3D04O103_40164.exe | Driver\OKW3D04O.INF |
Official download pages:
- PCL5 Printer Driver 1.0.7;
- PCL Printer Driver, PCL XL 1.0.4;
- PS Printer Driver 1.0.3;
- XPS Printer Driver 1.0.3.
Download only one primary driver unless you have a reason to install several. Installing PCL5, PCL XL and PS at the same time is allowed, but several similar print queues will appear in Windows. The user may accidentally select the wrong queue.
Before Installation: Three Important Checks
1. Check the System Type
Open Settings > System > About and find System type. The PCL XL file marked x64 is intended for 64-bit Windows on Intel or AMD processors. It is not an ARM64 driver.
Windows 11 on ARM
Older model-specific OKI packages do not contain an ARM64 driver. Microsoft also warns that manufacturer installers may not work on ARM-based computers. First add the printer using Windows. Manually selecting an x64 INF file does not turn the driver into ARM64 and does not solve the architecture incompatibility.
2. Check Windows Protected Print Mode
If Windows protected print mode is enabled in Windows 11, the system removes third-party print drivers and prevents the use of such model-specific packages. Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, scroll down to the printer settings section and check the status of this mode.
If you need the OKI driver settings, you will have to disable protected print mode and then reinstall the printer. If the mode is enabled by an organization policy, contact your administrator. Do not disable protection on a work computer without permission.
3. Determine the Connection Type
- USB: for the initial installation, do not use a docking station or USB hub.
- Network: determine the device’s current IPv4 address in advance. On the OKI control panel, open SETTING > View Information > Network. You can also print the SETTING > Reports > System > Network Information report.
Method 1. Standard Installation Using the OKI Package
Installation with a USB Connection
- Disconnect the USB cable from the computer. You can connect the cable to the USB connector on the rear of the MFP in advance, but do not connect the other end to the computer.
- Run the selected EXE file. Confirm the User Account Control prompt.
- Select the language, accept the license agreement and start the driver installation.
- Select the USB connection if the installer offers a choice.
- Connect the USB cable to the computer and turn on the MFP only when the installer asks you to do so.
- Wait for the device to be detected and complete the installation.
- If you are prompted to replace an older driver version, choose the new driver. If the installer requires a restart before continuing, restart the computer.
- If Windows displays the Program Compatibility Assistant window but the installation completed without an error, select This program installed correctly.
If the cable was connected beforehand, Windows may have created a queue using a universal driver, and the OKI installer may not associate that queue with its own driver.
Installing a Network Printer
- Connect the MFP and computer to the same accessible network.
- Write down the MFP’s IPv4 address.
- Run the selected OKI package and choose the network connection.
- Wait for the device search to complete.
- If the MFP is found, compare the IP address shown in the window with the address on the device control panel and continue the installation.
- If the device is not found, repeat the search. Then select search by Printer name/IP Address and enter the IP address manually.
- Complete the installation and print a test page.
Automatic discovery may not work on a guest Wi-Fi network, between different VLANs, or when client isolation is enabled. In this situation, installation using the exact IP address is more reliable than broadcast discovery.
Method 2. Manual Installation from an INF File
Use this method if the EXE file extracts successfully but the installer cannot find the device or closes before creating a print queue.
Step 1. Extract the Package
- Create a separate folder for the downloaded EXE file.
- Run the EXE file. The self-extracting package will create a folder containing the driver files.
- If the installer opens automatically after extraction, close only the installer. Do not delete the extracted folder.
- Check that the required INF file from the table above is present.
For manual installation, you do not need to convert the EXE file to ZIP. What matters is the extracted folder, the INF file and all accompanying driver files. Do not copy only the INF file: during installation, Windows will require catalogs, DLL files and other files from the same package.
Step 2. Open the Add Printer Wizard
- In Windows 11, open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners. In Windows 10, open Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
- Click Add device or Add a printer or scanner.
- Wait for the search to finish.
- Next to the message indicating that the printer you want is not listed, select Add a new device manually. In Windows 10, click The printer that I want isn’t listed.
- Select Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings.
Step 3A. Select a Port for USB
- Connect the powered-on MFP directly to the computer.
- In the wizard, select Use an existing port.
- Select USB001 (Virtual printer port for USB). If several USB printers have previously been connected, the port may be named USB002 or have another number.
- Continue to the driver selection step.
If no USB port is listed, Windows has not yet detected the printer’s USB interface. Do not create a random COM or FILE port. Check the cable, try another USB connector on the computer and check for an unknown device in Device Manager. After the device is detected again, return to the wizard.
Step 3B. Create a Port for a Network Connection
- In the wizard, select Create a new port.
- In the port type field, select Standard TCP/IP Port.
- Enter the MFP’s current IPv4 address. Use a static address or DHCP reservation so that the address does not change after the router restarts.
- If the option to automatically detect the driver is available, clear it. The driver will be selected manually in the next step.
- If the wizard does not detect the device type, select a standard network card and continue.
After installation, open Printer properties > Ports, select the created port and click Configure Port. Normal direct printing uses the RAW protocol and port number 9100. This is the standard value for the Windows TCP/IP port monitor.
Step 4. Specify the INF File
- In the manufacturer and printer selection window, click Have Disk.
- Click Browse.
- Open the extracted folder and select the INF file for the required driver type.
- Select the exact name of your OKI model from the list.
- Confirm the installation. If Windows asks which version to use when reinstalling the same driver, choose to replace the current driver.
- Enter a clear queue name, for example OKI MC562 PCL5 TCP-IP or OKI MC332 PS USB.
- Do not enable printer sharing unless the printer needs to be shared with other computers through this PC.
- Print a test page.
How to Check Which Driver Is Installed
- Open Settings > Printers & scanners.
- Select the required OKI queue.
- Open Printer properties.
- On the Advanced tab, check the Driver field.
- On the Ports tab, check the selected port: USB001 for USB or the IP address for a direct network connection.
- On the General tab, click Print Test Page.
If Microsoft IPP Class Driver is listed instead of a model-specific driver, Windows has installed a modern built-in driver. It may print without errors, but some OKI settings may be unavailable. If you need the features of the model-specific PCL5 or PS driver, install the OKI package manually and check the Driver field again.
Why Windows is increasingly choosing IPP
Since July 1, 2026, Microsoft has changed the selection priority: the built-in Windows IPP driver is given priority over third-party drivers in Windows Update. This does not prevent you from installing the OKI package downloaded from the manufacturer’s website. If you need additional settings, install it separately.
If the Installer or Windows Does Not Detect the OKI Device
| Symptom | Likely Cause | What to Do |
|---|---|---|
| USB printer does not appear | The cable was connected too early, is faulty or is connected through a hub | Disconnect the cable, restart the installation and connect it only when prompted; try another cable and port |
| USB001 is not available | Windows has not detected the printer’s USB interface | Check the power, cable and Device Manager; wait for detection, then repeat the printer setup |
| Network search cannot find the MFP | Different network segment, guest Wi-Fi, changed IP address or discovery being blocked | Check the IPv4 address and manually create a Standard TCP/IP Port |
| The printer is installed, but some settings are missing | Microsoft IPP Class Driver or a universal driver is being used | Check the Advanced tab and install the model-specific PCL5, PCL XL or PS driver |
| The package does not install in Windows 11 ARM | The package is intended for x86/x64, not ARM64 | Use Windows to add the printer; do not try to manually select an x64 INF file |
| Windows removes the driver or prevents installation | Windows protected print mode is enabled | Check the status of the mode; disable it only when necessary and with administrator permission |
| The network queue shows “Offline,” but the MFP web page opens | Incorrect port or SNMP status detection failure | Check the IP address and RAW 9100. Disable SNMP only as a diagnostic test |
Clean Driver Reinstallation
A clean reinstallation is required if Windows keeps restoring the wrong driver, the installation is interrupted, or several corrupted queues remain in the system.
- Open Settings > Printers & scanners and remove only the queues for the required OKI device.
- Press Win + R, enter
printui.exe /s /t2and press Enter. - On the Drivers tab, find the specific OKI driver for this series.
- Make sure that no other queues on the computer are using this driver.
- Click Remove and choose to remove the driver and driver package if this option is available.
- Restart the computer.
- Install the selected package again. For USB, leave the cable disconnected at first. For a network connection, write down the IP address in advance.
