If the OKI MFP prints but the scanning software does not detect the device, this usually does not mean that the scanner is faulty. Printing and scanning use different drivers. Windows may automatically install the print driver but not install the OKI scanner driver. For a network connection, you also need to select the correct scanning method and check the device’s IP address.
Below is a step-by-step guide for USB and network connections. First, identify which problem applies to you, and then follow only the corresponding section.
Quick solution
Install the separate Scanner Driver, not another PCL, PS or XPS print driver. For network scanning, use TWAIN or WSD. To start scanning with a button on the MFP, install ActKey and configure the scanner events.
Models This Guide Applies To
The main part of this guide applies to the following models:
- OKI MC332dn;
- OKI MC342dn and MC342dw;
- OKI MC352dn;
- OKI MC362dn and MC362w;
- OKI MC562dn, MC562w and MC562dw;
- OKI ES3452 MFP;
- OKI ES5462 MFP and ES5462dw MFP.
Why the Printer Works but the Scanner Is Not Detected
There are several different causes of this problem:
- Only the print driver is installed. PCL5, PCL XL, PS and XPS drivers do not add the scanner.
- An unsuitable interface is selected. WIA, TWAIN and WSD work differently. In particular, the OKI WIA driver does not provide normal network scanning over TCP/IP.
- The MFP’s IP address has changed. Printing may continue to work through another port or WSD, while Network Configuration continues to search for the scanner at the old address.
- Network TWAIN or WSD Scan is disabled on the MFP.
- Scanning from the computer works, but the SCAN button on the MFP does not start the program. In this case, ActKey and scanner events are usually not configured.
What You Need to Download
For 64-bit Windows 10 and the MC332, MC342, MC352, MC362, MC562, ES3452 MFP and ES5462 MFP models, the following files are used:
| File | Purpose | When It Is Needed |
|---|---|---|
MC5(3)x2ES5(3)4x2_ScannerDriver64_102_40135.exe | Scanner Driver 1.0.2: TWAIN and WIA, USB and network connections | Required for the scanner to be detected by Windows programs and TWAIN applications |
AKY_ALL_011200_0_290392.exe | ActKey 1.12 and Network Configuration | Required for scan buttons, network computer registration and starting jobs from the MFP control panel |
Download the files from the support page for your model. On the OKI website, you must accept the license agreement before the download button becomes available.
Windows 11 note
The official OKI page for Scanner Driver 1.0.2 lists Windows 10 x64, but does not list Windows 11. Windows 11 is officially listed for ActKey 1.12. Therefore, on Windows 11, check WSD Scan first. You can try installing the older TWAIN/WIA driver, but it cannot be considered officially guaranteed to work with every Windows 11 build.
Computers with ARM processors
The Scanner Driver x64 file is intended for Intel and AMD processors. It is not an ARM64 driver. On a computer with Windows 11 ARM, use WSD Scan or another scanning method supported by the system and the MFP.
Quick Diagnostics
| Symptom | Most Likely Cause | Section to Use |
|---|---|---|
| Printing works, but the scanner is not available in applications | Scanner Driver is not installed | Installing the driver and checking USB |
| Scanning works over USB but not over the network | Old IP address, Network TWAIN is disabled, or WIA is selected | Configuring network scanning |
| Windows Scan does not detect the network MFP | WSD Scan is disabled or the device has not been added as a WSD scanner | Checking WSD Scan |
| Scanning from the computer works, but the button on the MFP does not | ActKey and events are not configured | Configuring ActKey |
| The scanner disappeared after restarting the router | The MFP received a new IP address | Changing the address in Network Configuration |
Method 1. Install the Scanner Driver and Check the USB Connection
Step 1. Remove the Incomplete Installation
If Scanner Driver has already been installed but the scanner did not appear, perform a clean reinstallation:
- Disconnect the USB cable from the computer.
- Close ActKey, Windows Scan and other scanning programs.
- In Windows 11, open Settings > Apps > Installed apps, or in Windows 10, open Settings > Apps > Apps & features.
- Uninstall OKI MC5(3)x2/ES5(3)4×2 Scanner if this component is present.
- Restart the computer.
Step 2. Install the Correct Package
- Right-click the
MC5(3)x2ES5(3)4x2_ScannerDriver64_102_40135.exefile and select Run as administrator. - Confirm the User Account Control prompt.
- Follow the installer instructions.
- Do not connect the USB cable before the installer prompts you to do so. This requirement is specified in the OKI manual.
- When prompted, connect the MFP directly to a USB port on the computer. Do not use a USB hub or docking station for the initial test.
- Complete the installation and restart the computer.
Step 3. Check Whether the Scanner Is Detected
- In Windows 11, open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners. In Windows 10, open Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the OKI device. If Windows has detected the scanning function of the MFP, the scanner function will be available in the device settings.
- Open the Windows Scan app and perform a test scan from the platen glass.
If the app is not installed, install Windows Scan from Microsoft Store.
If the USB Scanner Is Still Not Detected
- Press Win + X and open Device Manager.
- Check the Imaging devices, Cameras and Other devices sections.
- If there is a yellow icon next to OKI or an unknown USB device, uninstall that device, disconnect the USB cable, restart the computer and reinstall Scanner Driver.
- Press Win + R, enter
services.mscand press Enter. - Find the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service. Start it and set the startup type to Automatic if the service is stopped.
- Try another USB port and a known-good cable.
Method 2. Configure Network Scanning
For network scanning, first determine the MFP’s IP address:
- On the OKI control panel, press SETTING.
- Open View Information > Network.
- Write down the IPv4 Address value.
The computer and the MFP must be on the same accessible network. A guest Wi-Fi network, client isolation or separate VLANs may allow printing through a server while blocking direct scanning.
Add or Correct the Address in Network Configuration
Network Configuration is installed together with ActKey.
- Install
AKY_ALL_011200_0_290392.exe. - Find Network Configuration using Windows Search and start the program.
- To add a scanner, open Scanner > Add Scanner and select the network scanner driver.
- If the device is already in the list but its IP address has changed, select Scanner > Edit Scanner.
- Enter the MFP’s current IP address. Do not change the port number unless necessary.
For the computer to appear in the Scan To Computer menu on the MFP, select the required scanner in Network Configuration, then open Scanner > Properties > Register. Check the IP address of the computer’s network adapter and click Register. If the computer’s address changes, registration must be performed again.
Enable Network TWAIN on the MFP
- On the device control panel, press SETTING.
- Open Admin Setup and enter the administrator password.
- Open Scanner Setup > TWAIN Setup > Network TWAIN.
- Select ON and confirm the setting by pressing OK.
Older OKI manuals specify the factory administrator password as aaaaaa. Use it only if the password has not previously been changed.
Why Windows Scan Does Not Detect the Network Scanner
The OKI driver includes WIA and TWAIN, but the manufacturer’s manual explicitly states: WIA does not support normal network scanning. WIA works over USB or through WSD Scan. Therefore, the absence of the network-connected OKI device in the Windows Scan app does not always indicate a driver problem.
For scanning over TCP/IP, use TWAIN and ActKey. If you specifically need Windows Scan, enable WSD:
- On the control panel, press SETTING.
- Open Admin Setup > Scanner Setup > WSD Scan Setup > WSD Scan.
- Set it to ON.
- In Windows, open Settings > Printers & scanners and click Add device.
- After adding the device, check it in the Windows Scan app.
If WSD works inconsistently, use a static IP address or configure address reservation in the router’s DHCP settings, then configure TWAIN through Network Configuration.
Check the Firewall
If the program detects the MFP but cannot establish a connection, allow ActKey and Network Configuration through Windows Firewall for the private network. Do not permanently disable the firewall. Also check that the current Windows network has the Private profile if it is a trusted home or office network.
Method 3. Scanning from the MFP Control Panel Does Not Start ActKey
If scanning from a program on the computer works, but nothing happens after pressing the SCAN button on the MFP, the driver is usually working correctly. You need to associate the scanner events with ActKey.
Windows event associations are used for local USB “push” scanning. To send a scan to the computer over the network, first register the computer through Network Configuration > Scanner > Properties > Register.
- Install and start ActKey.
- Open the classic Windows Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel search box, enter View scanners and cameras.
- Select OKI MC5(3)x2_ES5(3)4×2 USB and open Properties.
- Open the Events tab.
- Select each scanner event one at a time.
- Select Start this program and choose ActKey.
- Repeat the configuration for all events and click OK.
For local “push” scanning, press SCAN > Computer on the MFP control panel, select the USB connection and the required application, then press MONO or COLOR. For a network connection, after selecting Computer, select the registered computer.
Remote Scan works in the opposite direction: the job is started from ActKey or a TWAIN program on the computer. If manual or secure PC Scan mode is selected on the MFP, you will need to open SCAN > Remote Scan > TWAIN on the control panel and confirm the connection.
If ActKey disappears after Windows restarts, check whether it is allowed to start automatically: Settings > Apps > Startup. The ActKey or Network Configuration icon may be located in the notification area next to the clock.
What Does Not Help or May Make the Situation Worse
- Reinstalling the PCL, PS or XPS driver. These packages are for printing and do not install the scanner.
- Installing a random universal driver. The OKI universal driver is intended primarily for printing.
- Expecting the network scanner to appear in every WIA application. For these models, WIA is not used over a normal TCP/IP network.
- Permanently disabling the firewall and antivirus software. This creates a security risk and does not correct an incorrect IP address.
- Downloading drivers from unofficial websites and driver collections. Use the OKI website and check the model, system architecture and file name.
- Changing the port number without a reason. Correct the IP address first and register the computer again.
Final Check After Configuration
- Perform a test scan from the platen glass over USB or WSD.
- For a network connection, perform a scan using TWAIN or ActKey.
- Check scanning from the automatic document feeder.
- Check that a job can be started from the MFP control panel.
- Restart the computer and the MFP, then repeat the test.
- If the IP address is assigned automatically, configure a DHCP reservation to prevent the problem from recurring.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I Need to Remove the Working Printer Driver?
No. If printing works, do not remove the working print driver. Install or reinstall only Scanner Driver.
Which Driver Is Required for Scanning: PCL, PS or XPS?
None of them. Scanning requires the separate Scanner Driver package.
Is ActKey Required for Normal Scanning from the Computer?
Not always. For scanning from a WIA or TWAIN program, a working driver and connection are sufficient. ActKey is required for its own buttons, Network Configuration and starting jobs from the MFP control panel.
Why Does Printing Work After Replacing the Router, but Scanning Does Not?
The MFP may have received a new IP address. Correct the address through Scanner > Edit Scanner in Network Configuration and register the computer again.
Can I Use This Guide for Windows 11?
Yes, for diagnostics, WSD Scan and ActKey. However, Scanner Driver 1.0.2 officially lists Windows 10 x64, not Windows 11. If the older TWAIN/WIA driver does not install or works inconsistently, use WSD Scan or the MFP’s built-in functions: scanning to a network folder, email or a USB drive.
