A Canon PIXMA MG2500 series multifunction printer may successfully print a test page from the printer properties but fail to print Word documents, PDF files, web pages, or images. The print job may remain in the queue, be sent to another printer, or disappear immediately without printing.
If the test page prints, the USB connection, main driver, and multifunction printer itself are usually working. In this situation, the problem is most often related to the selected printer, the print queue, Windows settings, or the program from which the document is being printed.
This guide applies to the following models:
Canon PIXMA MG2510, MG2520, MG2522, MG2525, MG2540, MG2540S, MG2541S, MG2550, MG2550S, MG2555, MG2560, MG2570, MG2570S, MG2577S, MG2580, MG2580S, and MG2590.
All the devices listed above belong to the Canon PIXMA MG2500 series family and use the same driver package for Windows.
First, check which printer is selected
Before printing, make sure that Canon MG2500 series Printer is selected in the program’s print window. Windows may automatically select Microsoft Print to PDF, OneNote, an old HP or Epson printer, or another copy of the Canon printer.
Why the test page prints but documents do not
The problem may occur for the following reasons:
- another printer is selected in the program;
- Canon MG2500 series is not set as the default printer;
- Windows automatically switches the default printer;
- a corrupted or stuck job remains in the print queue;
- Pause Printing is enabled;
- Use Printer Offline is enabled;
- the Windows Print Spooler service has stopped;
- several copies of Canon MG2500 series are present in the system;
- the wrong port is assigned to the printer;
- the problem occurs only with one document or PDF file;
- the driver was corrupted after a Windows update.
Method 1. Select Canon MG2500 series in the print window
Even if Canon is set as the default printer, an individual program may remember another device. Therefore, first check the printer directly in the print window.
Printing from Microsoft Word
- Open the Word document.
- Click File.
- Select Print.
- Under Printer, click the name of the selected device.
- Select Canon MG2500 series Printer.
- Specify the number of copies.
- Click Print.
Do not select the following devices:
- Microsoft Print to PDF;
- Microsoft XPS Document Writer;
- OneNote;
- Fax;
- an old printer that you no longer use;
- Canon MG2500 series if an error status or “Offline” is shown next to it.
Printing a PDF file
- Open the PDF file.
- Press Ctrl + P.
- In the printer selection field, select Canon MG2500 series Printer.
- Check the print preview.
- Click Print.
Printing a web page or image
- Open the page or image.
- Press Ctrl + P.
- Click the selected printer.
- Select Canon MG2500 series Printer.
- Click Print.
If the document prints after you select the correct device, the problem was caused by the program sending the job to another printer.
Method 2. Set Canon MG2500 series as the default printer
To make programs select Canon MG2500 series automatically, set it as the default Windows printer.
Windows 11
- Turn on the multifunction printer and connect it to the computer.
- Click the Start button.
- Open Settings.
- Go to Bluetooth & devices.
- Open Printers & scanners.
- Scroll down the page.
- Turn off Let Windows manage my default printer.
- Return to the device list.
- Select Canon MG2500 series Printer.
- Click Set as default.
A mark indicating that the device is used by default should then appear next to its name.

- Open Settings.
- Go to Devices.
- Open Printers & scanners.
- Clear the checkbox or turn off Let Windows manage my default printer.
- Select Canon MG2500 series Printer.

Method 3. Test printing simple text
Before changing system settings, check whether the printer can print a simple document from a standard Windows program.
- Click the Start button.
- Enter Notepad in the search box.
- Open the program found in the search results.
- Type a few words, for example:
Canon MG2500 series print test
- Press Ctrl + P.
- Select Canon MG2500 series Printer.
- Click Print.
How to interpret the result
| Result | What it means |
| The text from Notepad printed | The printer and print queue are working. The problem is related to a specific program or document. |
| The job appeared in the queue and remained there | You need to clear the queue and check the Print Spooler. |
| The job does not appear in the queue | Another printer may be selected in the program, or the Windows printing system may be corrupted. |
| The printer shows an “Offline” status | Check the USB connection and disable offline mode. |
Method 4. Clear the print queue
One corrupted document can block all subsequent jobs. In this case, the test page may sometimes print after the queue is cleared, while regular documents continue waiting.
Step 1. Open the queue
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter the following command:
control printers
- Click OK.
- Find Canon MG2500 series Printer.

If the jobs cannot be removed, proceed to restarting the Print Spooler.

- Press Windows + R.
- Enter
control printers. - Click OK.
- Right-click Canon MG2500 series Printer.
- Select See what’s printing.
- At the top of the window, open the Printer menu.

- Check Use Printer Offline. If there is a checkmark next to it, click the option.
- Close the print queue window.
- Try printing the document again.
If the printer returns to the “Offline” state
Connect the USB cable directly to the computer, try another USB port, and do not use a hub or docking station. Also make sure that the multifunction printer is turned on.
Method 6. Restart the multifunction printer and the Windows Print Spooler
The Print Spooler service receives jobs from programs and sends them to the printer driver. If the service is not working correctly, documents may remain in the queue.
Step 1. Restart the multifunction printer
- Close all programs from which printing was performed.
- Turn off the multifunction printer using the power button.
- Disconnect the USB cable from the computer.
- Wait approximately 20 seconds.
- Reconnect the cable.

- Press Windows + R.
- Enter the following command:
services.msc
- Click OK.

Delete only the files inside the PRINTERS folder
Do not delete the PRINTERS folder itself or modify other files in the Windows system folder.
Step 1. Stop the Print Spooler
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter
services.msc. - Click OK.
- Find Print Spooler.
- Right-click the service.

- Canon MG2500 series Printer;
- Canon MG2500 series Copy 1;
- Canon MG2500 series Copy 2;
- USB Printer;
- an old HP, Epson, Brother, or Samsung printer.
Programs may continue sending documents to an old, non-working entry.

If jobs appear in the queue but are not sent to the multifunction printer, the wrong port may be assigned to the driver.
- Turn on the multifunction printer.
- Connect the USB cable directly to the computer.
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter
control printers. - Click OK.
- Right-click Canon MG2500 series Printer.
- Select Printer properties.
- Open the Ports tab.
A port with a name similar to the following is usually used for a USB connection:
USB001
USB002 or another virtual USB port may also be used. The selected port’s row should preferably show Canon MG2500 series.
- If you find the appropriate port, select the checkbox next to it.
- Click Apply.
- Click OK.
- Try printing again.
Do not select a random port
Do not select FILE, LPT, COM, Microsoft Print to PDF, or a network WSD port. If there is no suitable USB port, it is better to reinstall the official Canon driver.
Method 10. Check the problematic document
If Notepad and other files print but one specific document does not, you do not need to reinstall the driver. The problem is in the file itself or the program.
If a Word document does not print
- Open the document.
- Click File.
- Select Save As.
- Save a copy under a different name.
- Open the new copy.
- Select Canon MG2500 series Printer.
- Try printing again.
If this does not help:
- Create a new blank Word document.
- Copy the text from the problematic document into it.
- Do not copy the final blank paragraph mark if the document is corrupted.
- Save the new file.
- Try printing it.
If a PDF file does not print
In Adobe Acrobat Reader, you can try printing the file as an image:
- Open the PDF file.
- Click File → Print.
- Select Canon MG2500 series Printer.
- Click Advanced.
- Select the Print as Image checkbox.
- Click OK.
- Click Print.
This method may help if the PDF contains complex fonts, transparency, corrupted elements, or unusual graphic objects.
If a document from a browser does not print
- Save the document or page as a PDF file.
- Open the saved file in a PDF viewer.
- Select Canon MG2500 series Printer.
- Try printing again.
Method 11. Completely reinstall Canon MG2500 series MP Drivers

Why the MG2570S model is shown on the Canon page
MG2570S is one of the regional models in the MG2500 series family. The page provides the common driver package for this series.

- Turn on the multifunction printer.
- Wait for the installer to detect the device.
- Wait until the installation is complete.
After installation, set Canon MG2500 series Printer as the default device and try printing simple text from Notepad again.
How to check the result
After completing the methods, check operation in the following order:
- Make sure that the Canon MG2500 series queue is empty.
- Make sure that Pause Printing and Use Printer Offline are disabled.
- Set Canon MG2500 series as the default printer.
- Print simple text from Notepad.
- Print a Word document.
- Print a PDF file.
If simple text prints but a specific document does not, the problem is related to the file or program rather than the multifunction printer.
