Canon TS9500 Series printers can be used with Windows 11 ARM laptops and tablets, including devices powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite, Snapdragon X Plus, and Microsoft SQ processors.
However, the installation process differs from that on a standard computer with an Intel or AMD processor. The standard Canon MP Drivers package may fail to start or may not install all components. In this case, the printer must be added through the built-in Windows settings.
This guide applies to the following models:
- Canon PIXMA TS9540;
- Canon PIXMA TS9540A;
- Canon PIXMA TS9541C;
- Canon PIXMA TS9550;
- Canon PIXMA TS9550A;
- Canon PIXMA TS9551C;
- Canon PIXMA TS9551CA.
The main difference with Windows 11 ARM
The standard Canon TS9500 Series MP Drivers file is intended for conventional versions of Windows. On an ARM computer, the installer may fail to start, end with an error, or install only some of the applications.
Do not run the installer repeatedly in compatibility mode. First, add the printer using the built-in Windows tools.
What Is Windows 11 ARM?
Windows 11 ARM is installed on computers with ARM architecture processors. These are most commonly modern thin-and-light laptops powered by:
- Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite;
- Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus;
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx;
- Microsoft SQ1;
- Microsoft SQ2;
- Microsoft SQ3.
These devices can run many standard Windows applications through emulation. However, hardware drivers must support ARM or be built directly into Windows.
The ability to emulate standard applications does not mean that Windows can use any x64 or x86 driver.
How to Check the Computer Architecture
- Open the Start menu.
- Click Settings.
- Open System.
- Scroll down the page.
- Select About.
- Find the Device specifications section.
- Check the System type line.
On an ARM computer, it may show:
64-bit operating system, ARM-based processor
or:
ARM-based processor
If x64-based processor is displayed, the computer uses a standard Intel or AMD architecture. Use the standard Canon MP Drivers installation instructions for that computer.
Which Functions May Work on Windows 11 ARM?
After the device is added automatically, the following functions are usually available:
- document printing;
- color and black-and-white printing;
- paper size selection;
- orientation selection;
- number of copies selection;
- printing over Wi-Fi;
- printing over Ethernet;
- printing over USB if the device is detected correctly;
- basic system print queue settings;
- scanning through a system application if Windows detects the scanner.
The actual set of features depends on the driver that Windows installs for the device.
Which Functions May Be Unavailable?
When a system driver is used, the following may be missing:
- Canon IJ Printer Assistant Tool;
- Canon IJ Scan Utility;
- ScanGear;
- IJ Network Scanner Selector EX2;
- Canon IJ Status Monitor;
- the Canon Maintenance tab;
- advanced Canon color correction settings;

- creating a multipage PDF through IJ Scan Utility;
- starting printer maintenance from the computer.
Most maintenance procedures can be started directly from the printer’s touchscreen.
Which Connection Method Should You Choose?
Windows 11 ARM supports three main connection options:
- Wi-Fi;
- Ethernet;
- USB.
Wi-Fi Connection
This is suitable for most home users. The printer and computer must be connected to the same local network.
Ethernet Connection
This is suitable for stable operation in an office. The printer connects to the router with a cable, while the laptop can remain connected over Wi-Fi.
USB Connection
Canon supports automatic installation of a system driver after the USB cable is connected. However, if Windows does not recognize the device or detects only some functions, use a network connection instead.
Recommended procedure
First, connect the Canon TS9500 Series printer to a standard home or office Wi-Fi network. Then add the printer through Windows Settings. Do not begin by running the MP Drivers file.
Method 1: Connect the Printer to Wi-Fi
If the printer already prints over Wi-Fi from a phone or another computer, you do not need to configure the network again. Proceed to adding the printer in Windows.
If the printer is not yet connected to the router:
- Turn on the printer.
- Wait for the HOME screen to appear.
- Tap the Network icon.
- Select Wi-Fi.
- Select Settings.
- Tap Wi-Fi setup.
Different connection methods may be available on the screen.
Connect to the Router Manually
- Select manual setup or wireless router search.
- Wait for the list of networks to appear.

- Return to the Home screen.
An active Wi-Fi icon should appear on the Home screen.
Do Not Use a Guest Network
Do not connect the printer to a network whose name contains:
- Guest;
- Guest Network;
- Public;
- Hotspot.
A guest network often blocks communication between connected devices. The computer may have Internet access but still be unable to detect the printer.
Method 2: Connect the Printer over Ethernet
A standard Ethernet cable is required for a wired network connection.
- Turn on the printer.
- Remove the protective cap from the network port on the rear of the printer.

- Connect the other end to an available port on the router.
- Tap the Network icon on the printer’s screen.
- Select Wired LAN.
- Select Settings.
- Open Enable/disable Wired LAN.
- Select Enable.
- Return to the HOME screen.
A wired network icon should appear after the connection is established.
Wi-Fi and wired LAN are not used simultaneously on the printer. When Ethernet is enabled, the wireless connection may be disabled.
Method 3: Add a Network Printer in Windows 11 ARM
- Make sure the printer is turned on.
- Make sure no error is displayed on its screen.
- Connect the laptop to the same network as the printer.
- Open Start → Settings.

- Follow the Windows instructions.
If Windows offers several methods, first use network printer detection. Add the printer by IP address only if automatic detection does not work.
How to Find the IP Address of a Canon TS9500 Series Printer
You can print the network settings directly from the printer.
- Load A4 plain paper.
- On the HOME screen, tap Setup.
- Open Device settings.
- Select LAN settings.
- Select the option to print network details or settings.
- Confirm printing.
Find the following line on the printed sheet:
IPv4 Address
The address usually looks similar to:
192.168.1.125
Do not use the address from this example. Enter the address printed on your own network information sheet.
Add the Printer by IP Address
- Open the manual printer addition window.
- Select the option to add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname.
- Enter the Canon printer’s IP address.

USB Installation on Windows 11 ARM
Canon states that on Windows on Arm, you can connect the printer using a USB cable, after which the system driver should install automatically.
Step 1: Remove the Failed Installation
If the standard Canon Setup program has already been started and ended with an error:
- Close the installer.
- Disconnect the USB cable.
- Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
- Remove non-working Canon TS9500 Series copies.
- Restart the computer.
Step 2: Connect the Printer Directly
- Turn on the printer.

- Connect the cable to another USB port.
- Do not use a docking station.
- Try another working cable.
- Repeat the device addition process.
If Windows detects an unknown USB device but does not install the printer, switch to a Wi-Fi or Ethernet network connection.
Why the Standard Canon Installer May Not Work
On an ARM computer, the user may encounter messages such as:
- This app can’t run on your PC;
- The operating system is not supported;
- Failed to install the driver;
- Failed to register the printer driver;
- Printer not found;
- The installation was not completed;
- error code 0001 or 0002;
- IJ Scan Utility is installed but cannot detect the device;
- the Maintenance tab is missing.
The reason is that an application and a driver are different components. A standard application may run through emulation, but the hardware driver must be compatible with ARM.
Should You Use Compatibility Mode?
It is not recommended to run MP Drivers in the following compatibility modes:
- Windows 8;
- Windows 7;
- Windows Vista;
- Compatibility troubleshooter.
Compatibility mode changes how the installer behaves, but it does not convert a standard driver into an ARM64 driver.
How to Check the Installed Driver
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter:
control printers
- Click OK.
- Right-click the Canon printer.
- Select Printer properties.
- Open the Advanced tab.
- Check the driver name.
On ARM, a system class driver or a driver obtained automatically through Windows Update may be used.
This is normal if the printer performs the required tasks.
Why There Are Few Settings in the Printer Properties
With a system driver, the window may contain only basic options:
- orientation;
- paper size;
- color or monochrome printing;
- quality;
- number of copies;
- duplex printing if the driver provides this feature.
The following Canon-specific tabs may be missing:
- Quick Setup;
- Main;
- Page Setup;
- Maintenance.
This does not necessarily mean that the printer is faulty. Windows is using a different type of driver.
How to Perform Maintenance Without IJ Printer Assistant Tool
The main maintenance operations are available from the touchscreen.
- On the HOME screen, select Setup.
- Open Maintenance.
In this section, you can:
- print a nozzle check pattern;
- perform standard cleaning;
- perform deep cleaning;
- align the print head;
- clean the paper feed rollers;
- perform Bottom Plate Cleaning.
A computer connection is not required for printer maintenance.
How to Check Whether Scanning Is Detected
- Open Start → Settings.
- Go to Bluetooth & devices.
- Open Printers & scanners.
- Select Canon TS9500 Series.
If Windows has detected the scanning component, a scanner-related section or command may appear in the device settings.
If only printing settings are displayed, the scanning component is not installed.
Scanning with the Windows Scan App
The application can be installed free of charge from Microsoft Store:
Step 1: Install the Application
- Open the Microsoft Store link.
- Click Install or Get.
- Wait for the installation to finish.
- Start the Windows Scan app.
Step 2: Select the Canon Scanner
- In the Scanner field, select Canon TS9500 Series.
- In the Source field, select:
- Flatbed — for the scanner glass;
- Feeder — for the ADF;
- Auto-configured — for automatic source detection.
- Select the file type.
- Specify the save folder.
- Click Scan.
If Canon is not displayed in the application list, Windows has not installed a compatible scanning component.
Limitations of the Windows Scan App
The system application usually supports the following image formats:
- JPEG;
- PNG;
- TIFF;
- Bitmap.
The application may not create a multipage PDF in the same way as IJ Scan Utility.
The following features may also be unavailable:
- advanced Canon image correction;
- ScanGear;
- automatic multipage PDF creation;
- Canon OCR;
- IJ PDF Editor;
- network scanner selection through IJ Network Scanner Selector EX2.
Windows Fax and Scan
On Windows 11 ARM computers, Windows Fax and Scan is unavailable.
Do not spend time searching for the following file:
WFS.exe
For scanning, use the Windows Scan app, Canon PRINT on a smartphone, or another compatible computer.
How to Create a Multipage PDF Without IJ Scan Utility
You can use one of the following methods:
Option 1: Scan the Pages as Images
- Scan the pages in JPEG or PNG format.
- Check their order.
- Select the images in File Explorer.
- Use an application that can combine images into a PDF.
Do not upload confidential documents to unknown online services.
Option 2: Use a Smartphone
The Canon PRINT app allows you to receive scanned data in PDF or JPEG format directly on a smartphone or tablet.
- Install Canon PRINT on the smartphone.
- Connect the smartphone to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Add Canon TS9500 Series in the app.
- Select the scanning function.
- Select PDF as the file format.
- Save the document on the smartphone.
- Transfer the file to the computer.
Option 3: Use an x64 Computer
For regular scanning of a large number of pages, install the complete Canon package on a standard Intel or AMD computer, and then transfer the completed PDF files to the ARM laptop.
If Printing Works but Scanning Does Not
This is possible because the printing and scanning components use different system drivers.
Perform the following steps:
- Check Windows updates.
- Restart the computer.
- Remove Canon from Printers & scanners.
- Restart the printer.
- Add it again.
- Check the Windows Scan app.
- If the scanner is not detected, test the USB connection.
- If USB does not help, use Canon PRINT on a smartphone.
If Scanning Works over USB but Not over Wi-Fi
Check:
- whether both devices are connected to the same network;
- whether the Private network profile is selected;
- whether the VPN is disabled;
- whether a guest network is being used;
- whether network discovery is enabled;
- whether the router blocks communication between clients.
After changing the settings, remove the printer from Windows and add it again.
If Only A4 Printing Is Available
Open the printing properties and check the paper size list.
If A3 is missing:
- Check whether the correct Canon TS9500 Series printer is added.
- Remove duplicate entries.
- Run Windows Update.
- Remove and add the printer again.
- Try adding it over the network instead of USB.
When a system driver is used, some Canon paper sizes and features may be unavailable.
If Duplex Printing Is Unavailable
First, check whether a supported paper size is selected:
- A4;
- A5;
- B5;
- Letter.
Automatic duplex printing is unavailable for A3 and photo paper.
If the feature is also missing for A4 plain paper, the system driver may not provide it. Use manual duplex printing:
- Print the odd-numbered pages.
- Wait for the ink to dry.
- Turn the stack over correctly.
- Print the even-numbered pages.
If Borderless Printing Is Unavailable
The Windows system driver may not display all borderless printing modes.
Check:
- whether supported photo paper is being used;
- whether the document size matches the paper size;
- whether the paper is loaded in the rear tray;
- whether a separate paper size marked as borderless is available;
- whether the printing application provides this mode.
If the option is missing, this may be a limitation of the ARM system driver.
If the Ink Level Is Not Displayed
The standard Windows driver may not install Canon IJ Status Monitor.
You can check the ink level:
- on the printer’s touchscreen;
- through Canon PRINT on a smartphone;
- through the printer’s web interface if it is available over the network.
Updating the Firmware on an ARM Computer
Do not run the standard Windows Firmware Updater if it is not intended for ARM.
It is safer to update the firmware through the printer’s touchscreen:
- Connect the printer to a network with Internet access.
- On the HOME screen, select Setup.
- Open Device settings.
- Select Firmware update.
- Start checking for an update.
- Follow the messages displayed on the screen.
Do not turn off the printer or router during the update.
What to Do with MP Drivers Ver. 1.06
The standard package has the following file name:
md__-win-ts9500-1_06-ea34_2.exe
Do not use it as the primary installation method on an ARM computer.
This package is primarily required for standard Windows computers with Intel or AMD processors when the complete set of components is needed:
- MP Driver;
- scanner driver;
- IJ Scan Utility;
- IJ Printer Assistant Tool;
- Canon-specific settings.
Can You Install Only the Canon Applications?
Some standard applications may run through emulation, but this does not guarantee that they will communicate with the printer.
For example, IJ Scan Utility depends on a compatible scanner driver. Even if the application window opens, it may display:
- Scanner not found;
- Cannot communicate with scanner;
- Scanner driver is not installed;
- ScanGear not found.
Without a compatible driver, reinstalling only the application will not resolve the problem.
If the Printer Disappears After a Windows Update
- Restart the printer.
- Restart the computer.
- Check the network connection.
- Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
- Remove the non-working Canon entry.
- Click Add device.
- Add the printer again.
- Check Windows Update.
If the Printer Is Continuously Offline
Check:
- the network icon on the printer’s screen;
- the network to which the computer is connected;
- whether the router is working;
- whether the printer’s IP address has changed;
- whether several copies of the device are installed;
- the VPN and guest network.
Remove old copies marked:
- Copy 1;
- Copy 1;
- WS;
- WSD;
- Offline.
Keep only the entry that successfully prints a test page.
Test the Printer with Another Computer
If you are unsure whether the printer is working correctly:
- Make a copy directly from the printer’s operation panel.
- Print the network information.
- Try printing from a smartphone through Canon PRINT.
- If possible, add the printer on a standard Intel or AMD computer.
If copying and mobile printing work, the printer is functioning correctly. The problem is related to Windows ARM configuration or limitations.
When the Problem Is Not Related to ARM
The computer architecture is not the cause if:
- a support code is displayed on the printer’s screen;
- paper does not feed;
- a paper jam occurs;
- the carriage does not move;
- support code 5100 appears;
- the printer cannot make a copy without a computer;
- one color does not print;
- the ink has run out;
- the printer does not physically turn on.
These faults must be resolved directly on the printer.
What You Should Not Do
- do not install drivers from third-party websites;
- do not disable driver signature enforcement;
- do not manually copy driver files from another computer;
- do not use unknown driver update applications;
- do not run the installer dozens of times;
- do not use compatibility mode as the main installation method;
- do not install a driver for another Canon model;
- do not modify the system registry using unverified instructions;
- do not remove Windows system drivers;
- do not update the firmware with an incompatible file.
