A Canon TS9500 Series printer may appear in Windows with the status Ready but fail to print documents. A print job may remain in the queue, disappear without printing, or stay in the Printing state for a long time.
This guide applies to the following models:
- Canon PIXMA TS9540;
- Canon PIXMA TS9540A;
- Canon PIXMA TS9541C;
- Canon PIXMA TS9550;
- Canon PIXMA TS9550A;
- Canon PIXMA TS9551C;
- Canon PIXMA TS9551CA.
All the models listed above belong to the Canon TS9500 series and use the same MP Drivers Ver. 1.06 package.
First, check what happens to the print job
If the document remains in the queue with the status Error or Printing, check the connection, print queue, and printing service.
If the job quickly disappears from the queue but the printer does not respond, the wrong printer, an old device copy, or an incorrect port is often selected.
Why the Printer Is Ready but Does Not Print
The most common causes are:
- the document was sent to the wrong copy of the printer;
- Use Printer Offline is enabled;
- printing is paused;
- a damaged print job is stuck in the queue;
- the Print Spooler service is not working correctly;
- Windows is using an old network port;
- the port no longer matches the printer after its IP address changed;
- the USB cable is connected through a hub or is faulty;
- Windows installed a standard driver instead of the complete Canon driver;
- several copies of Canon TS9500 series remain on the computer;
- the printer’s touchscreen is waiting for confirmation of the paper size;
- the printer is processing a large image or PDF file;
- the problem occurs only in one application or with one document.
Method 1: Check the Printer Screen and Status
- Make sure the printer is turned on.
- Wait until the power lamp stops flashing.
- Check the touchscreen.
- If a support code or message is displayed, follow the instructions on the screen.
- Make sure paper is loaded.
- Make sure the paper output tray is fully extended.
- Make sure the operation panel is raised.
- Make sure all printer covers are closed.
If the printer’s screen asks you to confirm the paper size or type, the print job will not start until you select the appropriate action.
If you sent a large PDF file, a high-resolution photo, or a document containing many images, printing may take longer to start. The power lamp may flash while the printer is receiving data.
Method 2: Test the Printer Without a Computer
This test helps determine whether the printer itself is working correctly.
- Place a document face down on the scanner glass.
- Close the document cover.
- On the touchscreen, select Copy.
- Tap Black or Color.
If copying works normally, the printing mechanism is working. The cause should be found in Windows, the driver, the print queue, or the connection.
If the printer cannot make a copy either, check the message on the touchscreen, the paper, the ink tanks, and whether there is a mechanical error.
Method 3: Select the Correct Printer
After several installation attempts, Windows may contain multiple entries for the same device:
- Canon TS9500 series;
- Canon TS9500 series Copy 1;
- Canon TS9500 series (Copy 1);
- Canon TS9500 series WS;
- Canon TS9500 series Network;
- Canon TS9500 series marked as Offline.
The document may be sent to an old or disconnected copy.

- Enter:
services.msc
- Click OK.
- Find the Print Spooler service.

services.msc
- Click OK.
- Find the Print Spooler service.
- Right-click it.
- Select Stop.
- Do not close the Services window.

- Delete these files. Do not delete the PRINTERS folder itself.
- Return to the Services window.
- Right-click the Print Spooler service.
- Select Start.
- Close the window.
- Restart the computer.
Method 9: Check the USB Connection
Follow this section if the printer is connected to the computer with a USB cable.
- Turn off the printer.
- Disconnect the USB cable from both the computer and printer.
- Wait approximately 15 seconds.
- Connect the square USB Type-B plug to the printer.
- Connect the other end directly to a USB port on the computer.
- Do not use a USB hub, docking station, or a USB port on a keyboard.
- Turn on the printer.
- Wait for Windows to detect the device.
- Try printing again.
If the problem persists:
- connect the cable to another USB port;
- try another working USB Type-B cable;
- do not use an excessively long cable;
- temporarily disconnect other unnecessary USB devices.
Method 10: Check the Port for a USB Connection
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter:
control printers
- Click OK.
- Right-click Canon TS9500 series.
- Select Printer properties.
- Open the Ports tab.
For a USB connection, a port with a name similar to one of the following should normally be selected:
USB001 USB002 USB003
In the Printer column next to the selected port, Canon TS9500 series should be displayed.
If a network port, WSD port, or port for another printer is selected:
- Find the USB port associated with Canon TS9500 series.
- Select the checkbox next to it.
- Click Apply.
- Click OK.
- Print a test page.
Do not select a random USB port if no Canon device is shown next to it.
Method 11: Check the Network Connection and Port
Follow this section for a Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection.
- Check whether the printer is connected to the network.
- Make sure the computer is connected to the same local network.
- Disable the VPN.
- Open Printer properties.
- Go to the Ports tab.
A network installation may use:
- a Canon network port;
- a standard TCP/IP port;
- a WSD port.
If the printer’s IP address has changed, the old port may no longer work. In this case, start Wi-Fi Connection Assistant.
Repairing the Connection with Wi-Fi Connection Assistant
- Turn on the printer.
- Open the Start menu.
- Find the Canon Utilities folder.
- Start Wi-Fi Connection Assistant.
- If a User Account Control prompt appears, click Yes.
- Select Diagnose and Repair.
- Follow the instructions displayed by the application.
- Confirm the network port repair if the application offers to perform it.
- Close the application.
- Try printing again.
Method 12: Add the Printer by IP Address
This method is useful if the printer is connected to the network but print jobs are being sent to a WSD port that does not work.
Step 1: Find the IP Address
You can view the IP address in Wi-Fi Connection Assistant or in the network information on the printer’s screen.
The address usually looks like this:
192.168.1.25
Step 2: Create a Standard TCP/IP Port
- Open Printer properties for Canon TS9500 series.
- Go to the Ports tab.
- Click Add Port….
- Select Standard TCP/IP Port.
- Click New Port….
- Click Next.
- Enter the printer’s IP address.
- Click Next.
- Wait for the device to be detected.
- Complete the port creation process.
- Make sure the new port is selected.
- Click Apply.
- Print a test page.
Do not change the port if printing already works through a Canon network port.
Method 13: Remove Old Printer Copies
After testing, identify the entry through which the test page prints successfully.
- Open Settings → Printers & scanners.
- Keep the working Canon TS9500 series entry.
- Select an old copy that appears inactive or does not print.
- Click Remove or Remove device.
- Confirm the removal.
Do not remove all entries at the same time until you have identified the working printer.
Method 14: Check the Installed Driver
Windows may automatically add the printer using a generic driver. Printing may then be unreliable, and Canon-specific settings will be unavailable.
- Open Printer properties.
- Go to the Advanced tab.
- Check the name in the Driver field.
For a complete installation, the Canon TS9500 series driver should be used.
If another name is shown, such as a generic IPP driver or a standard Microsoft driver, install the complete Canon package.
Method 15: Reinstall MP Drivers Ver. 1.06
Reinstall the driver if:
- the test page does not print;
- the correct port cannot be selected;
- Canon tabs are missing from the properties;
- print jobs constantly disappear without printing;
- the printing service regularly stops responding;
- the previous methods did not help.
Step 1: Uninstall the Old Package
- If you are using USB, disconnect the USB cable from the computer.
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter:
appwiz.cpl
- Click OK.
- Find Canon TS9500 series MP Drivers.
- Select the program.
- Click Uninstall or Uninstall/Change.
- Confirm the uninstallation.
- Restart the computer.
Step 2: Download the Driver

File name:
md__-win-ts9500-1_06-ea34_2.exe
Step 3: Install the Driver
- Open the Downloads folder.
- Right-click the md__-win-ts9500-1_06-ea34_2.exe file.
- Select Run as administrator.
- If a User Account Control window appears, click Yes.
- Accept the license agreement.
- Select the connection method you use.
For a USB connection:
- Do not connect the cable in advance.
- Wait for the installer message.
- Connect the USB cable directly to the computer.
- Turn on the printer.
- Wait for the device to be detected.
For a Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection:
- Turn on the printer before the search begins.
- Connect the computer to the same network.
- Select the detected Canon TS9500 series printer.
- Allow Canon applications through the firewall.
After installation, restart the computer and print a test page.
If the Test Page Prints but the Document Does Not
In this case, the printer, connection, and driver are working. The problem is related to the application or the specific file.
- Open Notepad.
- Enter several lines of text.
- Click File → Print.
- Select the working Canon TS9500 series entry.
- Click Print.
If the text from Notepad prints:
- close and reopen the original application;
- save the document under a new name;
- create a new document and copy the content into it;
- for a PDF, select printing as an image if this option is available;
- make sure a different printer is not selected in the application;
- reduce the resolution of a very large image;
- update the PDF viewer.
If the Print Job Disappears but the Printer Does Not Respond
Perform the following steps:
- Check which printer entry received the document.
- Print a test page from the printer properties.
- Check the selected port.
- Remove old Canon TS9500 series copies.
- For a network connection, start Wi-Fi Connection Assistant.
- If necessary, add a standard TCP/IP port.
- Reinstall MP Drivers.
If the Print Job Remains in the “Printing” State
Check:
- whether a message is displayed on the touchscreen;
- whether the USB cable is connected correctly;
- whether the printer is available on the network;
- whether the IP address has changed;
- whether the Print Spooler is running;
- whether a damaged print job is stuck in the queue;
- whether the correct port is selected.
If the Problem Appears After the Computer Wakes from Sleep
- Turn off the printer.
- Restart the computer.
- Turn on the printer after Windows starts.
- For a USB connection, reconnect the cable.
- For a network connection, wait for Wi-Fi to reconnect.
- Restart the Print Spooler.
- Try printing again.
If the problem occurs only after sleep, try another USB port or use a network connection.
When the Problem Is Not Related to Windows
Reinstalling the driver will not help if:
- the printer cannot make copies;
- a support code is displayed on the touchscreen;
- paper is not being picked up;
- the ink has run out;
- paper is jammed inside the printer;
- the operation panel or paper output tray is closed;
- the printer makes unusual mechanical noises.
First, resolve the message displayed on the printer’s screen.
