Applies to models: Canon MF271dn, MF272dw, MF274dn, MF275dw.
If 1 or 2 pages scan normally, but an error appears when you try to scan a large number of pages to PDF, the problem is often related not to the scanner itself, but to the data volume, PDF settings, or the save folder.
How the problem appears
- a few pages scan normally;
- an error appears with a large batch of documents;
- the same documents may save normally in PNG or JPEG;
- the problem appears specifically when creating a multi-page PDF.
Step 1. Reduce [Resolution]
- Open MF Scan Utility.
- Click [Settings].
- Reduce [Resolution] to 300 dpi.
- For normal text documents, you can also try 200 dpi.
Step 2. Check [Color Mode]
- For text documents, try [Grayscale] instead of full color.
- Run the scan again.
Step 3. Check [Data Format]
- In MF Scan Utility, open [Settings].
- Find [Data Format].
- For a single file, select [PDF].
Step 4. Change [PDF Compression]
- If PDF options are available in the profile, find [PDF Compression].
- Try a stronger compression setting.
Step 5. Temporarily disable [Create a PDF file that supports keyword search]
- In the scan settings, find this option.
- Temporarily disable it.
- Check whether the error disappears.
Step 6. Check [Save in]
- For testing, select a simple local folder in Documents.
- For the first test, do not use a cloud folder or a complex network path.
Step 7. Check [Folder for Temporary Files]
- Open the [General Settings] section.
- Check [Folder for Temporary Files].
- Specify a normal local folder and run the scan again.
Step 8. Check the [Read-only] attribute
- Open the properties of the folder where the scans are saved.
- Make sure the [Read-only] check box is not selected.
Step 9. Split the document into parts
- Try scanning not 10 to 20 sheets at once, but 5 to 7 sheets at a time.
- If the error disappears, the problem is related to the size of the PDF being created.
Step 10. Reinstall the Canon driver and MF Scan Utility
- Remove the Canon drivers and MF Scan Utility.
- Restart the computer.
- Install the official Canon package again.
Brief conclusion
If a Canon MF271dn, MF272dw, MF274dn, or MF275dw shows an error when scanning a large batch of pages to PDF, the most common things to check are [Resolution], [Color Mode], [Data Format], PDF settings, and the save folders, rather than looking for a scanner hardware failure.
