Canon MF3010 Not Picking Up Paper: A Simple and Quick Fix

If your Canon MF3010 MFP has stopped picking up paper or only picks it up after several attempts, the cause is usually dirt or wear on the pickup roller.

I solved this problem with a simple and quick roller cleaning without disassembling the device. I only needed ordinary clean water, a cotton swab, and a cloth.

Important: Do not use regular alcohol for cleaning. It dries out the rubber, which can make the roller stiff and reduce its ability to pick up paper even further.

Instructions for Cleaning the Roller:

1. Turn off the MFP, unplug the power cable from the outlet, and remove the cartridge.
2. Underneath it, in the center, you will see a short rubber roller.
3. Lightly dampen the cotton swab and cloth with water. They should be damp, but water should not drip from them.
4. Thoroughly wipe the roller’s rubber surface to remove dirt and paper dust. When the device is turned off, the roller barely rotates, but there is enough space around it to clean the accessible part of its rubber surface.
5. Allow the rubber to dry for about 5 minutes, then reinstall the cartridge and test printing.

Results and Personal Experience

I performed these steps on my old Canon MF3010 MFP, which has served me reliably for more than 12 years. Recently, the device started having trouble picking up paper: it would only pick up paper on the third attempt, and eventually the printer began displaying an error after three unsuccessful pickup cycles.

A simple cleaning with water completely solved the problem. The MFP is now working normally. This article was written two weeks after the procedure. During that time, its performance has not deteriorated, and paper feeds on the first attempt.

Online, people often recommend using special products to restore and clean rubber surfaces (for example, Platenclene). Professional cleaning chemicals may be more effective, but I did not have any available. In my case, ordinary clean water was more than sufficient.
