Redragon K552BGC-M: Software installation, Rapid Trigger, magnetic switch, 8000 Hz, and RGB configuration

Last Updated on 18.09.2026 by DriverNew

Redragon K552BGC-M is a wired TKL keyboard with UltraMag Magnetic Switches, Rapid Trigger technology, an adjustable actuation point, RGB backlighting, and a polling rate of up to 8000 Hz. A separate Redragon system driver is not required for normal operation in Windows: the keyboard is detected automatically as a USB/HID device. Separate Redragon Software is used to configure the magnetic switches and additional functions.

Important: K552BGC-M should not be confused with K552-KR, K552-KRS, K552P-KB, K552P-KR EU, or other mechanical K552 versions. K552BGC-M uses magnetic switches and separate Software. Do not install firmware or software from another K552.

Part 1. Installing and connecting Redragon K552BGC-M

How K552BGC-M differs from a regular mechanical keyboard

Redragon K552BGC-M uses UltraMag Magnetic Switch magnetic switches. The key position is detected by a sensor, so Software can change the actuation sensitivity and Rapid Trigger behavior. The manual specifies adjustment accuracy of 0.01 mm and a maximum polling rate of 8000 Hz.

The keyboard also features full Anti-Ghosting, full N-Key Rollover, and RGB backlighting. Windows, macOS, and Linux are supported, although the Software installation described below applies to Windows 11 and Windows 10.

What needs to be installed

Component What it is used for
Windows HID driver Provides normal keyboard input. Windows installs it automatically.
Redragon Software Used for Rapid Trigger, adjustable actuation point, polling rate, and other available settings.
Firmware The keyboard’s internal firmware. Updating it just to install Software is not required.

If K552BGC-M already types text after being connected to the computer, the basic HID driver is working. Redragon Software is required for the advanced features of the magnetic switches.

Verified Redragon Software installer

K552BGC-M uses a separate installer:

Redragon_K552BGC-M_magnetic_switch_keyboard_Installer_V2.06.02.exe

The verified version is specifically intended for K552BGC-M and has package version V2.06.02. Do not replace it with Software from a similar K552 model.

Connecting the keyboard

The package includes a 1.5 m USB-C to USB-A cable. The manual specifies a wired connection mode; after connection to the computer, the device should be automatically detected and configured by the system.

  1. Connect the USB-C connector of the cable to the keyboard.
  2. Connect USB-A to the computer.
  3. Wait for Windows to automatically detect the device.
  4. Open Notepad or another input field and test several keys.
  5. If normal input works, proceed with installing Redragon Software.

If there are problems detecting the device, first connect the keyboard directly to a USB port on the computer without using a USB hub, docking station, or extension cable.

Checking the keyboard in Windows 11

  1. Right-click the Start button.
  2. Open Device Manager.
  3. Check the Keyboards and Human Interface Devices sections.
  4. Make sure an unknown USB device with a warning icon does not appear after connection.

You can also open:

Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Devices

The absence of the word Redragon in the HID device name does not by itself indicate a malfunction.

Checking the keyboard in Windows 10

  1. Right-click Start.
  2. Open Device Manager.
  3. Check the Keyboards and Human Interface Devices sections.

If the keyboard types normally, there is no need to search for or install a separate Redragon system driver.

Installing Redragon Software

  1. Connect K552BGC-M to the computer.
  2. Close Software for other Redragon keyboards if it is running.
  3. Run the K552BGC-M installer.
  4. Confirm the Windows User Account Control prompt after checking the program name.
  5. Complete the installation by following the installer’s instructions.
  6. After installation is complete, start Redragon Software.
  7. Make sure the software detects the connected K552BGC-M specifically.

The manual explicitly states that Software is required to use Rapid Trigger and other adjustable magnetic switch functions.

Calibrate the magnetic switches before configuration

The keyboard must be calibrated before using the adjustable magnetic switch functions. This requirement is specifically stated in the K552BGC-M manual.

After installing Software, find the magnetic switch calibration function and perform the calibration according to the software instructions. During the procedure, do not press keys unnecessarily and do not interrupt the USB connection.

If the exact name of the calibration button differs in your version of Software, look for the function related to key or magnetic switch calibration. Do not use calibration instructions from another Hall-effect keyboard if the interface is different.

Part 2. Configuring magnetic switches, Rapid Trigger, 8000 Hz, RGB, and troubleshooting

Configuring the actuation point

One of the main features of K552BGC-M is the ability to change the actuation point of the magnetic keys.

The shorter the configured distance, the earlier the key registers a press. This can be useful in games where fast response is important, but an overly sensitive setting may cause accidental inputs from a light touch.

For the initial configuration, it is recommended to:

  1. Calibrate the keyboard.
  2. Open the magnetic switch adjustment section in Software.
  3. Do not immediately set the minimum possible actuation distance for all keys.
  4. Change the settings for only a few gaming keys first.
  5. Test them in a game and during normal typing.
  6. Only after testing, apply similar settings to other keys.

What is Rapid Trigger?

Rapid Trigger changes how a key is repeatedly activated. Instead of using one fixed activation and reset point, the system tracks the movement of the magnetic switch.

This allows a key release and subsequent press to be registered more quickly, especially with short key movements.

Rapid Trigger is primarily useful for gaming keys where you need to change direction quickly or repeat an action multiple times.

Rapid Trigger and a very short actuation point are not the same thing. The actuation point determines the depth of the initial activation, while Rapid Trigger changes the key’s behavior during subsequent upward and downward movement.

If the keys become too sensitive after configuration

If characters or in-game actions start registering from a very light touch, this does not necessarily indicate a faulty magnetic switch.

  1. Open the magnetic switch settings in Software.
  2. Increase the actuation point distance.
  3. If Rapid Trigger is enabled, temporarily disable it for the problematic key or make the setting less sensitive.
  4. Apply the changes.
  5. Test the key in Notepad and then in the game.

If the problem appeared after a significant sensitivity change, first restore more moderate settings rather than reinstalling the Windows HID driver.

1000–8000 Hz polling rate

The manual confirms a maximum polling rate of 8000 Hz. The default value is 1000 Hz, and the polling rate is changed through Software.

8000 Hz means that the keyboard can send data to the computer much more frequently than at the standard 1000 Hz. However, the maximum value is not required for every user.

If you need to change the polling rate:

  1. Start K552BGC-M Software.
  2. Find the polling rate setting.
  3. Select the required value.
  4. Apply the change.
  5. Check keyboard stability.

If unusual compatibility problems with a particular computer or application occur at the maximum polling rate, temporarily return to 1000 Hz and test again.

Switching RGB effects without Software

The K552BGC-M manual confirms the following backlight control combinations.

Key combination Function
Fn + Ins Cycle through 14 built-in lighting effects
Fn + PrtSc Turn the backlight on or off
Fn + Enter Change the color in effects that support this function
Fn + ↑ / ↓ Adjust brightness, 5 levels
Fn + ← / → Adjust effect speed, 5 levels

Creating custom RGB backlighting without the software

K552BGC-M supports a hardware DIY mode for creating a custom backlight pattern. The sequence is confirmed by the manual.

  1. Press Fn + Backspace. The key backlighting will turn off.
  2. Press Fn + Backspace again to start recording.
  3. The indicators will start flashing to indicate programming mode.
  4. Press the required key several times to select its color. The Fn key is not used in this configuration.
  5. Configure the remaining required keys.
  6. Press Fn + Backspace to save the custom pattern.
  7. The same combination can be used to recall the saved custom backlighting.

Windows key lock

To lock the system key while gaming, use:

Fn + Win Locks the Windows key and the Menu/List key. Press again to unlock them.

This combination is explicitly specified in the K552BGC-M manual.

WASD work as arrow keys

If the W, A, S, and D keys suddenly start functioning as arrow keys, the key-swap mode was most likely enabled.

Fn + W Swaps the functions of W/A/S/D and the arrow keys. Press again to restore the normal assignments.

This combination is confirmed specifically for K552BGC-M.

Multimedia Fn combinations

Key combination Function
Fn + F1 This PC
Fn + F2 Browser home page
Fn + F3 Calculator
Fn + F4 Media player
Fn + F5 Previous track
Fn + F6 Next track
Fn + F7 Play / Pause
Fn + F8 Stop playback
Fn + F9 Mute
Fn + F10 Decrease volume
Fn + F11 Increase volume
Fn + F12 Email

These functions are listed in the model’s manual.

Factory Reset

If the keyboard settings have been changed and you need to restore the factory state:

Fn + Esc, hold for 3 seconds Restore factory settings

This combination is confirmed directly by the K552BGC-M manual.

After the reset, check the actuation point, Rapid Trigger, and polling rate settings in Software. Before further configuring the magnetic functions, repeat calibration if necessary.

Software does not detect the keyboard

If normal input works but Redragon Software does not detect the device:

  1. Make sure Software specifically for K552BGC-M is installed.
  2. Close programs for other Redragon keyboards.
  3. Disconnect K552BGC-M.
  4. Connect it directly to another USB port on the computer.
  5. Wait for Windows to detect the device.
  6. Check text input.
  7. Start K552BGC-M Software again.

If Windows detects the keyboard as a HID device, reinstalling the standard HID drivers usually should not be the first step.

Rapid Trigger or the actuation point works incorrectly

If the magnetic functions produce unexpected results:

  1. Check whether calibration has been performed.
  2. Make sure the correct key or group of keys is selected in Software.
  3. Restore a more moderate actuation point.
  4. Temporarily disable Rapid Trigger for testing.
  5. Apply the changes.
  6. Test the keyboard first in a regular text editor.

If the problem disappears after reducing sensitivity, the cause was most likely the magnetic switch settings rather than a Windows HID driver malfunction.

RGB is not saved or does not work as expected

First check the built-in hardware key combinations. If the backlighting switches normally using Fn + Ins but does not respond to Software, the problem is related to software configuration rather than the LEDs themselves.

In this case:

  1. Make sure the software detects K552BGC-M.
  2. Apply a different RGB effect.
  3. Save or apply the changes using Software.
  4. Restart the software.
  5. If necessary, check the built-in DIY mode using Fn + Backspace.

Replacing magnetic switches

K552BGC-M includes four spare switches and a separate tool for removing them.

The hot-swap feature of the magnetic K552BGC-M does not mean compatibility with standard mechanical switches. Use only compatible magnetic switches designed for this system. Standard mechanical Outemu switches used in some other K552 models should not be installed just because the housing shape looks similar.

After replacing a magnetic switch, perform calibration before precisely adjusting the actuation point and Rapid Trigger.

One key responds incorrectly

Symptom What to check
The key activates from a light touch The actuation point and Rapid Trigger
Activation occurs at different depths Magnetic switch calibration
WASD perform the functions of the arrow keys Press Fn + W
Only the RGB of a specific key does not work Check the hardware effects and Software settings
The key does not respond even after reset and calibration Check the switch and, if a compatible spare magnetic switch is available, replace it

Do not place strong magnets nearby

The manual specifically warns to keep objects that create a strong magnetic field away from the keyboard. A strong external magnetic field may interfere with the components of the magnetic switches.

How to reinstall Software in Windows 11

  1. Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
  2. Find the installed Redragon Software.
  3. Uninstall it.
  4. Restart Windows.
  5. Check that the keyboard works as a normal HID device.
  6. Install K552BGC-M Software again.
  7. After installation, perform calibration before configuring the magnetic functions.

How to reinstall Software in Windows 10

  1. Open Settings → Apps → Apps & features.
  2. Uninstall Redragon Software.
  3. Restart the computer.
  4. Check normal keyboard input.
  5. Install Software for K552BGC-M again.
  6. Calibrate the magnetic switches.

The keyboard is not detected by Windows at all

If K552BGC-M does not work even as a regular keyboard, first rule out a USB connection problem.

  1. Disconnect the USB cable.
  2. Connect the keyboard to another USB port.
  3. Do not use a USB hub.
  4. Try another compatible USB cable, if possible.
  5. Test the keyboard on another computer.
  6. Open Device Manager and check whether a new device appears after connection.

The manual also recommends checking the USB connection and trying another USB port on the computer if there is no response.

Do not install firmware from other K552 models

Do not use firmware or Software from K552-KR, K552-KRS, K552P-KB, K552P-KR EU, or other mechanical K552 models. The magnetic K552BGC-M uses a different technology for detecting key position, so a partially matching model name does not confirm software or hardware compatibility.
