OKI MB472, MB492 and MB562: Printing Works, but Windows Cannot Find the Scanner

Last Updated on 16.08.2026 by DriverNew

If an OKI MB472, MB492 or MB562 prints but an application reports “Scanner not found,” this usually does not mean that the scanning unit is faulty. Printing and scanning use different Windows components. A PCL, PS or XPS driver can provide full printing functionality but does not install the TWAIN and WIA interfaces required for scanning.

First, test copying directly from the MFP control panel. If the device makes a normal copy from the platen glass and through the ADF, the scanning mechanism is working. In that case, check the scanner driver, selected connection type, WIA service, ActKey, IP address and network port instead of replacing the scanning unit.

The main difference

Scanner Driver adds TWAIN and WIA sources. ActKey starts scanning jobs and installs the Network Configuration utility with it. PCL, PS, XPS and Network Extension are related to printing and printer discovery; reinstalling only these packages will not fix a missing scanner.

Models covered by this guide

The installation and troubleshooting procedure applies to the following monochrome MFPs:

  • OKI MB472dn and MB472dnw;
  • OKI MB492dn;
  • OKI MB562dnw;
  • OKI ES4172LP MFP, ES4192 MFP, ES5162 MFP and ES5162LP MFP.

Scanner source names may use the generic designation MB5(4)x2/ES5(4)1×2 instead of the exact model number. For a network source, the last six characters of the device’s MAC address may also appear in the name.

Which files to download

Open the download page for your model: MB472dnw, MB492dn or MB562dnw. Before downloading, check the model, Windows architecture and package description.

Package What it is used for What to choose
Scanner Driver 1.0.0, 64-bit, approximately 14.3 MB TWAIN and WIA; scanning over USB and network For Windows 10 (64-bit). Windows 11 is not listed for this older driver on the download page.
Scanner Driver 1.0.0, 32-bit, approximately 14.1 MB TWAIN and WIA; scanning over USB and network Only for 32-bit Windows 10. Do not install it on a 64-bit system.
ActKey 1.12.0, approximately 17.7 MB Starting scans over USB or network; installs Network Configuration for registering the network MFP and computer Supports Windows 10 and Windows 11. ActKey does not replace a missing TWAIN/WIA driver.

Scanner Driver includes interfaces in Japanese, English, French, German, Italian, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese. ActKey lists Japanese, English, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Korean, Spanish and Traditional Chinese.

Why Scanner Driver may be missing from the Windows 11 results

The model page filters downloads by the selected operating system. The older Windows Scanner Driver 1.0.0 officially lists Windows 10 but not Windows 11, so it may not appear when the Windows 11 filter is selected. Switching the filter to Windows 10 (64-bit) will show the package, but installing it on Windows 11 is a compatibility option rather than officially stated support.

Step 1. Make sure the problem is in Windows

  1. Place a document on the large platen glass.
  2. Make a normal copy from the MFP control panel.
  3. If the ADF is used, make a second copy through the automatic document feeder.
  4. If both copies are produced, proceed to Windows configuration.
  5. If the MFP cannot copy even without a computer, follow the instructions on the display, check the ADF cover and any errors. Reinstalling the Windows driver will not fix this type of problem.

Then determine how scanning is supposed to work:

  • USB: one computer is connected to the MFP with a USB cable;
  • network: the computer accesses the MFP by its IP address;
  • scanning from the computer: the job is started in Windows Scan, Windows Fax and Scan, ActKey or a TWAIN application;
  • Scan to PC from the control panel: the job is started on the MFP and the file is sent to a registered computer with ActKey running.

Do not configure USB and network at the same time. First restore one connection method and use that specific method when selecting the scanning source.

Step 2. Check the system architecture

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to System > About.
  3. Find System type.
  4. For 64-bit Windows, download Scanner Driver 64-bit. The 32-bit package is only for 32-bit Windows.

Step 3. Remove an incomplete or incorrect installation

If Scanner Driver has not yet been installed, proceed directly to the next section. If installation previously ended with an error or several non-working sources have appeared in applications, first remove only the scanner components.

  1. Disconnect the USB cable from the computer.
  2. Open Settings > Apps > Apps & features.
  3. Remove OKI MB5(4)x2/ES5(4)1×2 Scanner or OKI Universal Scanner if such a component is present.
  4. Do not remove the working print queue or PCL driver if the problem affects only scanning.
  5. Restart the computer.

Step 4. Install Scanner Driver and ActKey

  1. Leave the USB cable disconnected.
  2. Right-click the downloaded Scanner Driver and select Run as administrator.
  3. Confirm the User Account Control prompt.
  4. If the installer asks for the connection type, select USB.
  5. Connect the MFP only when the installer prompts you to do so. Use a USB port on the computer, not a hub, docking station or monitor port.
  6. Wait for installation to finish and restart Windows.
  7. Install ActKey. If installing it separately, select your model and the USB connection.
  8. Start ActKey. In the scanner selection window, choose a source named OKI MB5(4)x2/ES5(4)1×2 USB or OKI Universal Twain USB.

If printing works through the same cable but the USB scanner does not appear, still test another short, known-good cable and another computer port. The MFP is a composite USB device: the printer interface may be detected while the scanner interface is not.

Step 5. Check the device and the WIA service

  1. Right-click the Start button and open Device Manager.
  2. Expand Cameras, Imaging devices and Other devices.
  3. Look for OKI Scanner or an unknown device that appears after the MFP is connected.
  4. If a yellow icon appears next to it, disconnect USB, remove only that device, reinstall Scanner Driver, and reconnect the cable when prompted.
  5. Press Win + R, enter services.msc and press Enter.
  6. Open Windows Image Acquisition (WIA).
  7. If the service is stopped, click Start. Its startup type must not be Disabled.

Step 6. Perform a test scan

  1. Place a document on the platen glass.
  2. Open Windows Fax and Scan or the Windows Scan app.
  3. Select OKI MB5(4)x2/ES5(4)1×2 or OKI Universal WIA.
  4. For the first test, select A4, color or grayscale, and a resolution of 300 dpi.
  5. Perform a preview, then scan.

If Windows Scan can see the device but a specific application cannot, you do not need to reinstall the printer. The application may support only TWAIN, only WIA, or sources of a particular bitness. Select a different source in the application itself or test scanning in an application with the same bitness. Do not install a 32-bit Windows driver on a 64-bit system just for an old 32-bit application.

Windows 10: restoring scanning over the network

Step 2. Check the IP address and MFP availability

  1. On the MFP, press SETTING.
  2. Open Reports > Configuration and print the configuration.
  3. Find the current IPv4 address, for example 192.168.1.50.
  4. On the computer, open a browser and enter this address: http://192.168.1.50.
  5. If the device web page does not open, fix the network connection first. The computer and MFP must be on the same local network, without guest Wi-Fi, client isolation or an active VPN that redirects local traffic.

If the MFP address changes after the router restarts, create a DHCP reservation for it. Otherwise, printing may continue to work through an automatically updated WSD port while the network scanner remains linked to the old IP address.

Step 3. Enable Network TWAIN on the MFP

  1. Press SETTING.
  2. Select Admin Setup and press OK.
  3. Enter the administrator password.
  4. Open Scanner Setup.
  5. Open TWAIN Setup.
  6. Select Network TWAIN.
  7. Set it to ON.
  8. Return to the Home screen.

The standard Network TWAIN port number for this group is 9967. Do not change it unless necessary. If the port has already been changed on the MFP, the same value must be specified for the network source on the computer.

Step 4. Install and register the network scanner

  1. Install Scanner Driver with the correct system architecture and select a network connection.
  2. Install ActKey. Network Configuration is installed with it.
  3. Open Start > Okidata > ActKey > Tools > Network Configuration.
  4. If the window does not open, find the ActKey icon in the notification area, right-click it and select Show Network Configuration.
  5. Open Scanner > Add Scanner.
  6. Select the driver for the installed model.
  7. If an old address is specified, open Scanner > Edit Scanner.
  8. Enter the current MFP IP address and port 9967, then save the settings.
  9. Start ActKey and select a network source such as OKI MB ****** or OKI Universal Twain ******. The six characters at the end usually correspond to the last six characters of the MAC address.

Do not select the USB source for a network MFP

If the list contains both … USB and a source with six characters from the MAC address, use the second option for a network connection. Selecting the USB source results in a message that the data source cannot be opened, even when the network MFP is accessible and prints normally.

Step 5. Allow network scanning through the firewall

  1. Open Windows Security > Firewall & network protection.
  2. Make sure the home or office network uses the Private profile.
  3. Open Allow an app through firewall.
  4. Click Change settings.
  5. Allow Network Configuration and ActKey on the private network.
  6. On a corporate network, give the administrator TCP port number 9967 and the MFP IP address. For Scan to PC from the control panel, incoming connections to the computer must also not be blocked.

Do not leave the firewall or antivirus disabled. If scanning starts working only during a brief test with protection disabled on a trusted network, turn protection back on and create a specific rule for ActKey, Network Configuration and the required port.

To test the port, open PowerShell and run the following command, replacing the address with your MFP’s IP address:

Test-NetConnection 192.168.1.50 -Port 9967

The value TcpTestSucceeded : True means that the computer can reach the Network TWAIN service on the MFP. If False is displayed, check the IP address, Network TWAIN setting, port, VPN and network-security rules again.

Windows 11: use a separate procedure

For Windows 11, do not automatically repeat the Windows 10 instructions. The current ActKey 1.12.0 supports Windows 11, but on the support pages for these older models, Windows Scanner Driver 1.0.0 is listed for Windows 10 and Windows 11 is not included.

Option 1. First test WSD/WIA without the old TWAIN driver

  1. Connect the computer and MFP to the same private local network.
  2. Check that the MFP web page opens using its IP address.
  3. Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  4. Click Add device and wait for Windows to detect the OKI.
  5. Add the device. Do not remove the existing working print queue until you have tested the result.
  6. Open the Windows Scan app. If it is not installed, install Windows Scan from Microsoft Store.
  7. Check whether the OKI network scanner appears and perform a test scan.

WSD is suitable for basic scanning through Windows. If an application specifically requires a TWAIN source or you need ActKey, proceed to the next option.

Option 2. Test the older Windows 10 (64-bit) driver

  1. On the model page, temporarily select the Windows 10 (64-bit) filter.
  2. Download Scanner Driver 1.0.0 64-bit.
  3. Disconnect the USB cable if you are configuring a USB connection.
  4. Run the installer as administrator without compatibility mode.
  5. Connect USB only when the installer prompts you, or select a network connection and enter the current IP address.
  6. Restart the computer.
  7. Install ActKey 1.12.0, for which Windows 11 is listed as a supported operating system.
  8. Check the WIA service, then test scanning in Windows Scan and ActKey.

Limitation of this option

Installing the Windows 10 driver on Windows 11 may work, but this compatibility is not stated on the model page for Scanner Driver 1.0.0. If the installer reports an unsupported system or is blocked by driver signature verification, do not disable driver signature protection. Use WSD/WIA or a computer with a supported operating system.

On Windows 11 ARM and in S mode, the old x64 driver should not be considered suitable. ActKey and working printing through a built-in driver do not guarantee that a traditional TWAIN source will be available.

If ActKey cannot find the scanner or selects the wrong source

  1. Close ActKey completely, including any open button-settings window or error message.
  2. Start Network Configuration.
  3. For USB, select the source ending in USB.
  4. For a network connection, select the source with the model name and six characters from the MAC address.
  5. If there is no network source, add it through Scanner > Add Scanner.
  6. If the MFP received a new IP address, correct it through Scanner > Edit Scanner.
  7. Check port 9967 and restart ActKey.

Having two sources after a network installation can be normal. One is for USB and the other is for the network. You do not need to remove both drivers just because two names are shown.

If scanning from the computer works but Scan to PC from the control panel does not

In this case, Scanner Driver is already working. You need to register the computer with the MFP and make sure ActKey is running.

  1. Open Network Configuration.
  2. Select the required network scanner.
  3. Open Scanner > Properties > Register.
  4. Check the computer name, its current IP address and the port.
  5. If the computer has Ethernet, Wi-Fi, VPN and virtual adapters, select the address of the local network adapter that is actually being used.
  6. Click Register. The MFP must be turned on and accessible over the network.
  7. If the computer’s IP address has changed, register it again.
  8. Allow Network Configuration and ActKey through the private-network firewall.
  9. Leave ActKey running in the notification area and close all of its dialog boxes.
  10. On the MFP control panel, select SCAN > Scan to PC, then the registered computer and the Application or Folder action.

Computer registration is not required for normal scanning started from an application on the computer. It is required specifically for sending a job from the MFP control panel to the selected computer.

If TWAIN reports that the device is busy or the source cannot be opened

Check the PC Scan mode on the MFP:

  1. Press SETTING.
  2. Open Admin Setup > Scanner Setup > PC Scan Mode.
  3. For a simple test, select Simple Scan Mode. In this mode, scanning can be started from the computer while the MFP is in the ready state.
  4. If Manual Scan Mode is selected, before starting the application press SCAN > Remote Scan > TWAIN on the MFP.
  5. In Secure Scan Mode, access is allowed only to a registered computer, and only one computer can connect at a time.
  6. Close other scanning applications and try again.

If the error appears only in one application, open its source selection and select OKI WIA or the correct TWAIN source again. The message may refer not to the MFP itself, but to a previously selected USB driver when the network connection is actually being used.

When reinstalling software will not help

  • the MFP cannot make a copy directly from the control panel;
  • the USB device repeatedly shows a descriptor error with several known-good cables and on different computers;
  • the scanning unit makes unusual mechanical noise or does not return to its home position;
  • a scanner hardware error remains on the display after the device is completely turned off and turned back on;
  • Network TWAIN is enabled and the IP address is correct, but port 9967 is unreachable from several computers on the same network;
  • the same problem occurs in WIA, TWAIN and ActKey after a clean installation.

In these cases, turn off the MFP using its normal power button, disconnect the power for several minutes, and test copying again. If the hardware error remains, record its exact message or code and provide this information to a service center. Working printing alone does not rule out a fault in a separate interface or the scanning unit.
