OKI B432, MB472 and MB492 not detected via USB in Windows 11: how to install the PCL6 driver

Last Updated on 11.08.2026 by DriverNew

When an OKI B432, MB472 or MB492 is connected via USB, Windows 11 may fail to create a printer icon, display the status “Driver is unavailable”, or add a queue named OKI LTD xxx using the Microsoft IPP Class Driver. In the latter case, the computer has already detected the device, but it selected the generic IPP method instead of the official OKI PCL6 driver.

This situation has become particularly relevant in newer Windows 11 builds, where Windows Ready Print may be used by default for newly detected printers. For a basic home printer, this may sometimes be sufficient, but higher-end models may lose tray settings, duplex printing, paper sizes and other features. To restore them, you need to assign the correct PCL6 driver for the specific model.

Where to start

If OKI LTD xxx is already listed among the printers, do not delete it immediately: first install the appropriate OKI package and switch the driver in the properties of this queue. If no printer icon appears at all, remove incorrect duplicate queues and perform the installation using the USB mode of the official installer.

Which models this guide applies to

This guide is intended for two groups of devices that use shared PCL6 packages.

This article applies to print installation on a standard x64 computer. For a laptop with an ARM processor or Windows 11 in S mode, the procedure is different and is described separately below.

Determine exactly what happened when the printer was connected

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  3. Check whether a new print queue appeared after connecting the USB cable.
  4. If a queue is present, open it and click Printer properties.
  5. On the Advanced tab, check the value in the Driver field.

If the Printer properties button is not displayed, press Win + R, enter shell:PrintersFolder and press Enter. Right-click the required queue and select Printer properties. Do not confuse this command with the regular Properties item, which displays device information but does not allow you to replace the driver or port.

Step 1. Check the computer type and Windows mode

The standard OKI PCL6 package and modern Windows Ready Print are not interchangeable solutions for every computer. First determine the system architecture.

  1. Open Settings > System > About.
  2. Find System type.
  3. If it shows 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor, continue with the PCL6 installation described in this article.
  4. If it shows an ARM-based processor, do not install the standard x86/x64 package as the primary driver.
  5. To check S mode, open Settings > System > Activation and check the Windows edition name.

If the computer uses ARM or Windows 11 in S mode

For monochrome OKI printers and MFPs in this configuration, use OKI PCL6 Class Driver 2 or an available Windows Ready Print queue. Installation is performed through Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners > Add device.

The Class Driver provides basic printing functions, but the selection of paper sizes and advanced settings may be more limited than with the official driver for a specific model. The standard EXE package described in the following sections is intended primarily for Windows x64.

Step 2. Update Windows 11

  1. Disconnect the printer’s USB cable.
  2. Open Settings > Windows Update.
  3. Click Check for updates.
  4. Install the available cumulative update and required fixes.
  5. Restart the computer.
  6. Check for updates again and make sure there is no message indicating that a restart is required.

Updating is especially important if Windows creates an IPP queue, print jobs disappear, or the printer starts outputting diagnostic text. Reinstalling the driver on a system that has not been updated may not correct Windows behavior itself.

Step 3. Check Windows Ready Print and protected print mode

Windows 11 uses two settings with similar names but different functions.

SettingWhat it doesWhat to select for OKI PCL6
Default install printers using Windows Ready PrintPrefers IPP and a modern driver without a separate manufacturer package when a printer is newly detectedIt can be temporarily turned off before reinstalling if Windows keeps creating OKI LTD with Microsoft IPP
Windows protected print modeAllows only Windows Ready Print and removes third-party drivers from the systemIt must be turned off if the official OKI PCL6 driver is required

How to find these settings

  1. Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  2. Scroll down to the printer settings section.
  3. If the Default install printers using Windows Ready Print switch is present, turn it off temporarily while reinstalling PCL6.
  4. If Windows protected print mode is enabled, click Turn Off and confirm.
  5. Restart the computer before installing the OKI driver.

If these options are not present

The available settings depend on the Windows 11 build and the phased rollout of features. Do not modify the registry or Group Policy just to make the switch appear. Proceed directly to installation using the official USB installer.

On a work computer, protected print mode may be enabled by the organization’s administrator. In this case, the user cannot disable it independently. Assistance from the system administrator or printing through the permitted Windows Ready Print method will be required.

Step 4. If Windows created an OKI LTD xxx queue

You do not necessarily need to delete the OKI LTD xxx queue. Install the PCL6 package and then replace the Microsoft IPP Class Driver assigned to it.

First install the required package

ModelsVersionFile
B412, B432, B512, ES4132, ES5112PCL Printer Driver 1.1.13Download OKW3X0551113_309305.exe
MB472, MB492, MB562, ES4172LP MFP, ES4192 MFP, ES5162 MFP, ES5162LP MFPPCL Printer Driver 1.1.4Download OKW3X055114_254754.exe
  1. Download the file that corresponds to your model.
  2. Run the EXE file and confirm the User Account Control prompt.
  3. Select the installer language and accept the license agreement.
  4. Select your model and the USB connection connection type.
  5. If the installer asks you to connect the printer, connect it directly with a USB cable and turn it on.
  6. If the installer only offers to install the driver without creating a new queue, complete the installation and do not delete the existing OKI LTD queue.

Assign the PCL6 driver to the existing queue

  1. Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  2. Click OKI LTD xxx.
  3. Open Printer properties.
  4. Go to the Advanced tab.
  5. In the Driver field, select the exact model, for example OKI B432(PCL6), OKI MB472(PCL6) or OKI MB492(PCL6).
  6. Click Apply.
  7. Open the Device Options tab.
  8. Click Get Printer Information so the driver can retrieve information about trays and installed options.
  9. Click Apply again.
  10. On the General tab, click Print Test Page.

If the required model is not listed among the drivers, the package has not yet been installed. Close the properties window, run the appropriate EXE file again and complete the installation. Do not select a similar model simply because it is available in the list.

Step 5. Perform a clean installation of the PCL6 driver

Use this method if no icon appears, “Driver is unavailable” is displayed, the queue is corrupted, or switching from Microsoft IPP did not help.

Remove incorrect queues

  1. Turn off the printer and disconnect the USB cable.
  2. Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  3. Remove the OKI LTD xxx queue if it cannot be switched to PCL6.
  4. Remove duplicate queues for your model marked Copy.
  5. Do not remove a working OKI network queue or other printers.
  6. Restart the computer.

Procedure for B412, B432, B512, ES4132 and ES5112

  1. Use a USB 2.0 cable no longer than 5 m; a length of 2 m or less is preferred.
  2. Connect the cable directly to a USB port on the computer.
  3. Turn on the printer and wait until it reaches the ready state.
  4. Run OKW3X0551113_309305.exe.
  5. Confirm the User Account Control prompt.
  6. Select the language, accept the agreement and select USB connection.
  7. Select the exact model of the detected printer.
  8. Install the PCL6 driver and perform the suggested test print.
  9. If the current installer version asks you to disconnect the cable first, follow the message displayed on its screen and connect the device only when prompted.

Procedure for MB472, MB492, MB562 and related ES MFPs

  1. Leave the MFP turned off and do not connect the USB cable.
  2. Run OKW3X055114_254754.exe.
  3. Confirm the User Account Control prompt.
  4. Select the language and accept the license agreement.
  5. Select the exact MFP model.
  6. Select USB connection.
  7. Start the PCL6 driver installation.
  8. When the connection prompt appears on the screen, connect the MFP to the computer’s USB port and turn it on.
  9. Wait for the device to be detected and complete the installation.
  10. Restart the computer and print a test page.

The PCL6 driver installs printing, but not scanning

MB472, MB492, MB562 and ES MFP models require a separate scanner driver. If printing works but the scanning application does not detect the MFP, this is a separate installation issue. Do not remove a working PCL6 queue in an attempt to restore scanning.

Step 6. Check the created queue

  1. Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  2. Select the installed OKI model.
  3. Open Printer properties.
  4. On the Advanced tab, make sure the driver for the exact model with the (PCL6) designation is selected.
  5. On the Ports tab, find the row with the selected check box. With a USB connection, this is usually a virtual USB port such as USB001.
  6. Do not manually change the port number to USB001 if your model is already shown next to another USB port: when several printers are connected, the port may be USB002 or USB003.
  7. On the General tab, click Print Test Page.

If the test page prints but a specific application does not detect the new printer, close that application completely and open it again. Some applications read the printer list only when they start.

Step 7. If the installer does not find the printer

Check the cable and connection sequence

  1. Disconnect the USB cable.
  2. Wait at least five seconds before reconnecting it.
  3. Connect the printer directly to the computer without using a docking station, monitor, switch or external USB hub.
  4. Try another USB port on the computer.
  5. If possible, use another known-good USB 2.0 cable that is 2 m or shorter.
  6. Make sure the printer has fully started and that there are no paper, cover or consumable errors on the control panel.

Check whether Windows responds when the printer is connected

  1. Right-click the Start button.
  2. Select Device Manager.
  3. Expand Print queues, Printers, Other devices and Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  4. Leave the window open, disconnect the cable, wait five seconds and reconnect it.
  5. Check whether any device disappears and then reappears in the list.
What appears in Device ManagerWhat to check next
The list does not change at allPrinter power, USB cable and the physical USB port on the computer
Unknown USB Device or another unknown device appearsTry another cable, another port and restart the computer; then run the installer again
OKI, USBIPP or the model name appearsThe physical USB connection is working; the problem is with driver assignment or queue creation
A yellow exclamation mark appears next to OKIComplete the installation of the official package and restart Windows; do not manually remove individual INF files

Restart the print service

  1. Press Win + R.
  2. Enter services.msc and press Enter.
  3. Find Print Spooler.
  4. Right-click the service and select Restart.
  5. Close the Services window and run the OKI installer again.

Do not disable Print Spooler permanently. Without this service, Windows cannot create a standard print queue or send a test page.

Step 8. If Windows blocks the installer from running

Do not disable system protection immediately after the first warning. First make sure the file was downloaded from the OKI website and that its name matches the model.

  1. Right-click the EXE file and select Properties.
  2. If the Unblock check box is available on the General tab, select it and click Apply.
  3. Open the Digital Signatures tab and make sure the signature belongs to OKI or a regional OKI company.
  4. If there is no signature or verification reports that the file is corrupted, delete the file and download it again using the link in this article.
  5. If the computer belongs to an organization, do not bypass the restriction: provide the file name to the administrator.

Smart App Control may prevent some traditional drivers and utilities from being installed. Its status can be checked through Settings > Privacy & security > Windows Security > App & browser control > Smart App Control settings.

Do not turn off Smart App Control without considering the consequences

After it is turned off, this protection cannot simply be enabled again using a normal switch. If the required basic functions are available through Windows Ready Print, it is safer to leave the protection enabled. Disabling it makes sense only after an informed decision when the features of the official PCL6 driver are required and the file was obtained from a trusted source.

Step 9. Install the printer over the network if USB remains unstable

B432, MB472 and related models can be connected to the router with an Ethernet cable and a Standard TCP/IP Port queue can be created. In this case, Windows sends data to the device’s IP address, while repeated USB detection and Windows Ready Print are not involved.

  1. Connect the OKI device to the router with an Ethernet cable.
  2. On the B432, open PRINT INFO > NETWORK and print the network information page.
  3. On the MB472 or MB492, press SETTING, then select Reports > System > Network Information.
  4. Find the IPv4 Address value on the page.
  5. Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  6. Click Add device, then Add manually.
  7. Select the option to add a printer using an IP address or hostname.
  8. Enter the IPv4 address and select the PCL6 driver for the exact OKI model.
  9. If port settings are requested, select RAW and port number 9100.
  10. Print a test page and only then remove the non-working USB queue.

Actions that can make the situation worse

ActionWhy you should not do it
Connect and disconnect the cable repeatedly in quick successionWindows creates duplicate queues; wait at least five seconds between connections
Select a driver for a similar modelPaper sizes, trays and duplex printing may work incorrectly
Remove Microsoft IPP Class Driver from the system driver storeThis may disrupt other modern printers; it is sufficient to replace the driver only for the OKI queue
Remove USBIPP INF manuallyUSBIPP is an expected device detection component, and removing it manually does not correct queue assignment
Disable all security features just to run one EXE fileThis changes protection for the entire system; first verify the source and digital signature of the file
Remove a working PCL6 queue because the scanner is unavailablePrinting and scanning use different drivers, so reinstalling the printer does not replace the scanner driver

If Windows 11 has already created OKI LTD xxx, first install the exact OKI package and assign PCL6 on the Advanced tab. If no icon appears at all, use the USB mode of the official installer and follow the connection sequence for your model group. Check the cable and Device Manager only after ruling out an incorrect Windows architecture, Windows protected print mode and an unsuitable driver.
