Suitable for: Pantum M6507, M6507W, M6500, M6500W, M6506NW, M6550W, M6550NW, and other models in the Pantum M6200 / M6500 / M6550 / M6600 series.
This article covers the most common problems that appear after installation and initial use: paper jams, poor print quality, toner messages, scanner errors, duplex printing problems, and other typical issues.
1. The printer does not pick up paper or often crumples sheets
First, check the simplest things:
- there should not be more than 150 sheets in the tray;
- the paper guides should fit the paper size snugly;
- the paper stack should sit evenly;
- it is best to use standard laser printing paper.
What to do:
- Remove the paper from the tray.
- Check for crumpled, damp, or overly thin sheets.
- Reload the paper in a neat, even stack.
- Adjust the guides to match the paper size.
- Try printing 1–2 pages.
If the problem continues, do not fill the tray completely and try a different pack of paper.
2. A paper jam error appears on the screen or control panel
This usually means the paper is stuck at the input, inside the printer, or at the output.
What to do:
- Turn off the printer.
- Carefully open the covers available on your model.
- Gently pull out the jammed sheet without jerking it.
- Make sure no scraps of paper remain inside.
- Close the covers and turn the device back on.
After a jam, always check the paper in the tray. If it is uneven or the guides are set incorrectly, the jam may happen again right away.
3. Printing has become faint
If the printout has become too light, check the toner and the cartridge itself.
What you can do at home:
- Open the cover.
- Remove the laser cartridge.
- Carefully shake it 5–6 times in a vertical direction.
- Reinstall the cartridge.
- Print a test page.
If the print quality does not improve and the device shows a low toner level, it is time to replace or service the cartridge.
4. Prints are smudged, there is a gray background, streaks, or dots
These symptoms are most often caused by one of three factors:
- the cartridge is worn out or has been refilled poorly;
- unsuitable paper is being used;
- dust or toner residue has built up inside the printer.
What to do:
- Make sure you are using standard laser printing paper.
- Do not use damp, wrinkled, or overly smooth paper.
- If the defect appeared right after a refill, check the condition of the cartridge.
- Wipe the scanner glass and exterior surfaces with a soft, dry cloth.
If the defect appears on every page, the problem is most likely with the cartridge or internal components rather than the driver.
5. “Low toner” or “Cartridge life has expired” message
This means the toner is running low or the cartridge is close to the end of its service life.
What to do:
- if you urgently still need to print, you can try shaking the cartridge and printing a few more pages;
- for normal operation, it is better to prepare a new cartridge or service the cartridge according to your model’s requirements;
- if the message does not disappear after replacement, check whether the cartridge is installed correctly.
6. “Laser cartridge not detected” message
The cause is usually simple: the cartridge is installed incorrectly, or the contacts are not seated properly.
What to do:
- Turn off the printer.
- Remove the cartridge.
- Check that it is not misaligned.
- Reinstall the cartridge into the correct position.
- Turn the device on and check the status.
If the message remains and the cartridge has already been reinstalled several times, the cartridge itself may be faulty.
7. The printer does not print on both sides or crumples paper during duplex printing
This series supports manual duplex printing. Thin, curled, or unsuitable paper may crumple during this process.
What to do:
- use standard paper;
- do not enable duplex printing for thick paper or transparencies;
- do not load too many sheets into the tray;
- if the paper is curled, flatten it or replace it.
8. “Scanner busy” error
This message appears when another scanning job is already in progress.
What to do:
- Cancel the current scanning job.
- Wait for the running process to finish.
- Then try scanning again.
9. Scanning error
If the device reports an internal scanner error, reinstalling the driver does not always help.
What to do before contacting service:
- restart the MFP;
- restart the computer;
- try scanning from a different program;
- clean the scanner glass with a soft cloth.
If the error remains, the device needs to be checked by a service center.
10. Red or orange status indicator
On this series, the status indicator helps you quickly understand the type of problem:
- green — normal status;
- orange — warning;
- red — error.
If the red indicator is lit, first turn the MFP off and then on again. If the status does not change, check the message on the screen and do not continue forcing the device to work.
11. Not every type of paper is suitable
For proper printing, it is important to use suitable materials:
- standard paper;
- heavy paper within the supported range;
- labels and envelopes only if suitable for laser printing;
- transparencies only for laser printers.
Unsuitable paper often causes several problems at once: jams, poor pickup, gray background, and smudged printing.
12. When Windows is the problem, not the printer
If:
- copies print from the MFP control panel;
- paper feeds normally;
- there are no errors on the device itself;
then the cause is most likely not the printer’s mechanics, but Windows, the print queue, or the driver. In this case, use a separate guide for reinstalling the driver and setting up printing in Windows 10 and Windows 11.
When to contact service
- jams happen constantly with any paper;
- the cartridge is detected with an error even after reinstalling it;
- an internal device error appears;
- the scanner still shows an error after a restart;
- the red indicator does not go out;
- copying does not work even without a computer.
Quick summary
For Pantum M6200 / M6500 / M6550 / M6600 series devices, the most common problems can usually be solved without complex repair:
- reload the correct paper properly;
- clear jams without jerking the paper;
- check the cartridge and toner;
- do not use unsuitable printing materials;
- separate Windows-related problems from device-related problems.
If the situation does not change after these steps, it is better to stop experimenting and take the device to a service center.
