Paper is often already loaded in the tray when this happens. The problem does not simply mean that the printer is out of paper: the print job settings do not match the paper size, media type or paper source registered in the printer.<\/p>\n<p>To fix the error, you need to match four things: the page size in the application, the OKI driver settings, the paper actually loaded in the printer and the tray settings on the device control panel. Changing only one setting often provides a temporary solution, after which the message appears again when another document is printed.<\/p>\n<div style=\"background-color: #eef6ff; border-left: 5px solid #2271b1; margin: 20px 0; padding: 14px 18px;\">\n<p style=\"margin: 0 0 8px;\"><strong>Where to start<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0;\">Do not rely only on error code 460\u2013462: on B412\/B432\/B512 printers and MB472\/MB492\/MB562 MFPs, the same code refers to different trays. Write down the <strong>requested paper size<\/strong>, <strong>media type<\/strong> and <strong>tray name<\/strong> shown on the display. For example: <strong>A4 \/ Plain \/ Tray 1<\/strong>. In that case, simply load paper of the required size into the specified tray. Codes <strong>460\u2013462<\/strong> require you to check whether the paper size or media type matches.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Why the error appears even though A4 paper is already loaded<\/h2>\n<p>For normal printing, the following settings must match:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Page size in the document.<\/strong> For example, A4 or Letter.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Print job settings in the driver.<\/strong> Size, Source, Type and Weight.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Paper in the tray.<\/strong> The actual sheet size and the position of the guides.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tray settings on the device.<\/strong> Paper Size, Media Type and Media Weight.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The most common situation is that A4 paper is loaded in the main tray, while the document or application sends the print job as Letter. These sizes are similar, but they are not the same:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>A4:<\/strong> 210 \u00d7 297 mm;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Letter:<\/strong> 216 \u00d7 279 mm.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The problem can also occur when the job requests <strong>Labels<\/strong>, <strong>Envelope<\/strong>, <strong>Letterhead<\/strong> or heavier paper while the tray is registered as <strong>Plain<\/strong> with a <strong>Medium<\/strong> weight. Selecting <strong>Auto<\/strong> as the paper source does not correct this mismatch: automatic tray selection only searches among trays that match the requested settings.<\/p>\n<h2>Step 1. Read the entire message on the display<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Do not cancel the message immediately.<\/li>\n<li>Write down the error code.<\/li>\n<li>Write down the tray name: <strong>TRAY1<\/strong>, <strong>TRAY2<\/strong> or <strong>MP TRAY<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Write down the requested size: for example, <strong>A4<\/strong>, <strong>LETTER<\/strong>, <strong>LEGAL 13<\/strong> or <strong>CUSTOM<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Write down the paper type if it is shown: for example, <strong>PLAIN<\/strong>, <strong>LETTERHEAD<\/strong>, <strong>LABELS<\/strong> or <strong>ENVELOPE<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>On B432 printers, the message may look like this:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"background-color: #f6f7f7; border: 1px solid #dcdcde; overflow: auto; padding: 14px; white-space: pre-wrap;\"><code>LOAD A4\/PLAIN AND PRESS ONLINE SWITCH\r\n461: TRAY1 MEDIA MISMATCH<\/code><\/pre>\n<p>On the MB472 or MB492, the wording is usually shorter:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"background-color: #f6f7f7; border: 1px solid #dcdcde; overflow: auto; padding: 14px; white-space: pre-wrap;\"><code>Tray Media Mismatch\r\nPlease install paper [MEDIA_TYPE] on TRAY1\r\nError code: 460<\/code><\/pre>\n<p>The exact wording is less important than three values: <strong>what is being requested, which tray is involved and which model you have<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Step 2. Check the paper and tray guides<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Pull out the tray specified in the message.<\/li>\n<li>Check the marking on the paper packaging. Do not try to distinguish A4 from Letter by sight alone.<\/li>\n<li>Remove any sheets of a different size that may have been left accidentally underneath or on top of the stack.<\/li>\n<li>Align the paper stack on a flat surface.<\/li>\n<li>Move the side and rear guides exactly against the edges of the paper. They should touch the sheets without bending them.<\/li>\n<li>Do not load paper above the maximum fill mark.<\/li>\n<li>Push the tray fully back into the printer.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If you are using the MP Tray, unfold its supports, load the media and move the guides against the edges. Envelopes, labels and heavy paper should usually be fed through the MP Tray, after which you should specify the corresponding <strong>Paper Size<\/strong>, <strong>Media Type<\/strong> and <strong>Media Weight<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Step 3. Check the page size in the application<\/h2>\n<p>Application settings can override the saved driver settings. This is why the error may occur only with one document, browser or PDF file.<\/p>\n<h3>Microsoft Word<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Open the document.<\/li>\n<li>Go to the <strong>Layout<\/strong> or <strong>Page Layout<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Size<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select the size that is actually loaded in the printer, for example <strong>A4<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Open <strong>File<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Print<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select the correct OKI print queue, not a duplicate.<\/li>\n<li>Open <strong>Printer Properties<\/strong> and check the paper size and source again.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If the document was created for Letter paper, changing it to A4 may alter line breaks and the number of pages. Review the document before printing.<\/p>\n<h3>Adobe Acrobat or Acrobat Reader<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Open the PDF and click <strong>Print<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Check the document page size in the print preview.<\/li>\n<li>To print without scaling, select <strong>Actual size<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Open the OKI printer properties and select the same paper size.<\/li>\n<li>If the PDF contains pages of different sizes, use automatic paper source selection based on PDF page size only when the device actually has multiple suitable trays configured.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The <strong>Fit<\/strong> option scales the content, but it does not by itself correct an incorrect paper size sent to the driver.<\/p>\n<h3>Browser<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Press <strong>Ctrl + P<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Open <strong>More settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Find <strong>Paper size<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select A4, Letter or another size that is actually loaded.<\/li>\n<li>Open the system print dialog if the browser does not display the OKI driver properties.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If the browser constantly selects Letter on a computer where A4 is used, save A4 as the default paper size in the driver settings as described below.<\/p>\n<h2>Step 4. A <strong>Microsoft IPP Class Driver<\/strong> queue may not display proprietary OKI features. Install the PCL6 driver for your series and select the print queue created by that driver.<\/p>\n<h2>Step 5. Configure the tray on B412, B432, B512, ES4132 or ES5112<\/h2>\n<p>The printer control panel uses English abbreviations. Configure only the tray specified in the message.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Use the arrow buttons to open <strong>MENUS<\/strong> and press <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>TRAY CONFIG<\/strong> and press <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Open <strong>TRAY1 CONFIG<\/strong>, <strong>TRAY2 CONFIG<\/strong> or <strong>MP TRAY CONFIG<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Open <strong>PAPERSIZE<\/strong> and select the size actually loaded.<\/li>\n<li>Open <strong>MEDIATYPE<\/strong> and select the media type. For standard paper, select <strong>PLAIN<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Open <strong>MEDIAWEIGHT<\/strong>. For standard office paper, start with <strong>MEDIUM<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Press <strong>BACK<\/strong> until you exit the menu.<\/li>\n<li>Press <strong>ONLINE<\/strong> to return the printer to the ready state.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The same section also contains <strong>PAPER FEED<\/strong>, <strong>AUTO TRAY SWITCH<\/strong> and <strong>TRAY SEQUENCE<\/strong>. These settings determine the primary tray and the automatic tray-switching order. Do not change them if the problem is caused only by an A4\/Letter mismatch or an incorrect Media Type.<\/p>\n<div style=\"background-color: #fffbf0; border-left: 5px solid #ff9800; margin: 20px 0; padding: 14px 18px;\">\n<p style=\"margin: 0 0 8px;\"><strong>Why the B432 may request the MP Tray<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0;\"><strong>WHEN MISMATCHING<\/strong> may be selected for <strong>MP TRAY CONFIG &gt; TRAY USAGE<\/strong>. In this case, the multipurpose tray is used when the print job does not match the main tray. If you need to print from Tray 1, first set <strong>Source: Tray 1<\/strong> in the driver and correct the paper size or media type instead of loading random sheets into the MP Tray.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Step 6. Configure the tray on MB472, MB492, MB562 or a related ES MFP<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Press the physical <strong>SETTING<\/strong> button.<\/li>\n<li>Use the arrow buttons to select <strong>Paper Setup<\/strong> and press <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>Tray 1<\/strong>, <strong>Tray 2<\/strong> or <strong>MP Tray<\/strong> according to the message.<\/li>\n<li>Open <strong>Paper Size<\/strong> and select the size actually loaded.<\/li>\n<li>For custom-size paper, open <strong>Custom<\/strong> and specify its width and length.<\/li>\n<li>Open <strong>Media Type<\/strong>. For standard paper, select <strong>Plain<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Open <strong>Media Weight<\/strong>. For standard office paper, start with <strong>Medium<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Press <strong>BACK<\/strong> to return to the main screen.<\/li>\n<li>Send the test page again.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The <strong>Paper Setup<\/strong> section also contains <strong>Select Tray<\/strong>, <strong>Paper Feed<\/strong>, <strong>Auto Tray Switch<\/strong> and <strong>Tray Sequence<\/strong>. These settings do not replace the correct registration of the paper size and media type.<\/p>\n<p>For <strong>MP Tray Usage<\/strong>, the default setting on this group of devices may be <strong>Do Not Use<\/strong>. If printing should use the MP Tray, select this source in the driver and enable its use in the device settings. If you do not need the MP Tray, do not enable it just to make the current message disappear.<\/p>\n<h2>Step 7. How to continue the current print job or cancel it correctly<\/h2>\n<h3>If the display requests the correct paper<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Load the specified size and media type into the specified tray.<\/li>\n<li>On the B432, press <strong>ONLINE<\/strong>. The MB472 or MB492 usually resumes printing after detecting the tray; if a <strong>Start<\/strong> or <strong>OK<\/strong> command appears on the screen, confirm it.<\/li>\n<li>Check the first printed sheet.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>If the display requests the wrong paper<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Select <strong>Cancel<\/strong> on the device or cancel the job from the Windows print queue.<\/li>\n<li>Correct the page size in the application.<\/li>\n<li>Correct Size, Source, Type and Weight in the printing properties.<\/li>\n<li>Send the document again.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The ONLINE or Start button may allow the current job to print, but it does not correct the cause. The document may be printed at the wrong scale, on unsuitable media or from a different tray. Continue printing only after checking the request shown on the display.<\/p>\n<h2>Step 8. What to do if the printer constantly asks you to load paper into the MP Tray<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Open the printing properties for the current job.<\/li>\n<li>On the <strong>Setup<\/strong> tab, find <strong>Source<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>If <strong>MP Tray<\/strong> or <strong>Manual Feed<\/strong> is selected but you are using the main tray, select <strong>Tray 1<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Check whether <strong>Labels<\/strong>, <strong>Envelope<\/strong> or a special paper weight has been selected.<\/li>\n<li>If the source is set to <strong>Auto<\/strong>, temporarily select Tray 1 and print again.<\/li>\n<li>Reopen the print dialog in the application: some applications save their own paper source for a specific document.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>A message with code <strong>490<\/strong> means that the MP Tray is empty. A message with code <strong>460<\/strong> on the B series or <strong>462<\/strong> on the MB series means that the paper in the MP Tray does not match the print job. These are different problems.<\/p>\n<h2>Step 9.
