Open the MFP

Leave the device turned on.

Carefully lift the scanner unit.

Press the top cover release lever.

Fully open the top cover.

The fuser unit may be very hot. Do not touch the area with the warning label and do not put your hands inside the device beyond the consumable handles.

Step 2. Remove the Old Unit Together with the Toner Cartridges

Locate the two handles on the combined image drum unit.

Hold both handles and lift the unit vertically without tilting it.

Remove the assembly together with the four installed toner cartridges.

Place it on a level surface protected with clean paper.

Cover the unit to protect it from light. Do not discard it: the toner cartridges installed on it will still be needed.

Do not hold the assembly by the toner cartridges and do not place it on the green cylinders.

Step 3. Prepare the New Drum

Open the packaging of the new Image Drum immediately before installation.

Remove all external packaging, shipping locks and protective materials specified in the included instructions.

Do not remove the temporary initial charging cartridges.

Check that all four temporary cartridges are installed evenly.

Move their colored lock levers fully to the left. This secures the cartridges and opens the supply of material for initial charging.

If the kit is incomplete, the packaging is damaged or the temporary cartridges are missing, stop and confirm the contents with the seller. Do not use the old toner cartridges for initial charging instead of the supplied kit.

Step 4. Install the New Unit

Hold the new unit only by the handles.

Align the side pins of the unit with the guide slots inside the device.

Slowly lower the unit vertically.

Make sure both sides are at the same height and the assembly does not protrude upward.

Do not press down on the toner cartridges and do not use force.

If the unit does not lower fully into place, lift it and align the pins with the slots again. Do not use the cover to force a misaligned assembly into place.

Step 5. Perform Automatic Initial Charging

Close the top cover securely until it latches.

Carefully lower the scanner unit.

Do not press any buttons or send print jobs.

Wait approximately four minutes.

The MFP will automatically start initial charging. During this process, the mechanism can be heard operating, the Attention/Status indicator flashes and the display is illuminated. Do not open the cover or disconnect the power. Intermediate messages on the display during this process do not require any action.

Charging is complete when the mechanism stops and the display backlight turns off. The Attention/Status indicator may continue flashing. On models with a Power Save button, it may light up.

Step 6. Remove the Temporary Cartridges

After the mechanism has stopped completely, lift the scanner again and open the top cover.

Move the colored lock lever of the first temporary cartridge fully to the right.

Lift its right end.

Move the cartridge to the right, release the left end and remove it.

Remove the other three temporary cartridges in the same way.

Place them in the recycling bags provided for this purpose.

Do not leave the temporary cartridges in the device for normal printing.

Step 7. Transfer the Toner Cartridges from the Old Drum

Work with one color at a time to avoid mixing up the positions. The cartridge order from the rear of the device toward the front panel is: Yellow, Magenta, Cyan, Black.

Uncover the old unit only long enough to remove the first cartridge.

Move its colored lock lever fully to the right.

Lift the right end and move the cartridge to the right, releasing the left end.

Hold the cartridge by the upper center section.

On the new drum, insert the left end of the cartridge into the position for the same color.

Press the left end against the spring and lower the right end.

Gently press down from above and move the lock lever fully to the left.

Repeat these steps for the remaining colors.

Do not swap cartridges of different colors. After installation, all four cartridges must sit evenly and their lock levers must be in the fully left position.

Step 8. Close the Device and Check the Result

Close the top cover and press it down until it latches.

Lower the scanner unit.

Wait until the consumables check is complete.

Make sure the Image Drum message has disappeared and the device reaches the ready state.

Print one color page.

Pack the old drum in the protective materials from the new kit and recycle it according to local regulations. Do not throw the drum or toner cartridge into a fire.

If Error 340, 341, 342 or 343 Remains

This group means that the unit is seated incorrectly, not that its life has ended. Reinstall it:

Turn off the MFP normally: hold the power button for approximately one second, but no longer than five seconds.

Wait for the message Shutdown in progress. Please wait. and for the indicator to turn off completely.

Wait about ten minutes for the fuser unit to cool down.

Lift the scanner and fully open the top cover.

Remove the image drum unit using the two handles and immediately cover it from light.

Check the side pins and guide slots. Remove only loose paper or packaging material.

Return the unit vertically, aligning both sides with the slots.

Close the cover until it latches, lower the scanner and turn on the device.

If the same error returns, the unit may be lifted by an incorrectly installed transfer belt located underneath it.

How to Reinstall the Transfer Belt

Perform this check only when the MFP is turned off and has cooled down. Do not touch the black working surface of the belt.

Remove the image drum unit again and cover it from light.

Locate one locking lever on the left and one on the right side of the belt.

Lift both levers and rotate them toward the front of the device to the unlocked position.

Hold the levers, lift the belt vertically and remove it.

Check underneath the belt for a sheet of paper, shipping component or other loose object.

Install the belt evenly; the drive gear must be at the rear.

Lower it until it is fully seated.

Rotate both locking levers toward the rear of the device to lock the belt.

Install the image drum unit, latch the cover and lower the scanner.

Turn on the MFP and check the message.

If the belt does not lower freely, a lever is broken, or error 340–343 remains, stop disassembly and contact service support.

If Image Drum Life Remains After Installing a New Drum

Check the part number of the new unit and the full MFP model.

Make sure the drum is genuinely new and has not previously been installed in another printer.

Confirm whether the approximately four-minute initial charging procedure was completed using the temporary cartridges supplied with the kit.

Check that the temporary cartridges were removed only after charging was complete.

Reinstall the unit along the side guides.

Check the seating of the transfer belt if the unit is raised or an installation error returns.

Close the top cover until it latches and wait for the consumables to be detected again.

If a new, correct drum does not reset the message, do not perform manual counter initialization. Possible causes include a defective new unit, an incomplete kit, an interrupted initial charging procedure or a fault in the automatic detection mechanism. Keep the packaging and contact the seller to have the consumable checked or replaced.

A Toner Error Appeared After Replacement

When the drum is replaced, the old toner cartridges are transferred onto it. Therefore, after the Image Drum is successfully detected, a separate toner message may appear.

544–547: check whether the protective tape has been removed and whether the lock lever of the corresponding cartridge has been moved fully to the left.

610–613: the cartridge is not installed or not detected; reinsert the left end, lower the right end and lock the lever.

540–543: on this family, the toner cartridge is not recognized or there is a toner sensor error; first reinstall the combined unit, then the corresponding toner cartridge.

TONER LOW: prepare a new cartridge, but continue printing while quality remains acceptable.

TONER EMPTY: replace the cartridge of the indicated color.

A toner error after drum replacement does not mean that the new Image Drum must be replaced again. First resolve the message related to the toner cartridge.

If Print Quality Became Worse After Replacement

Check whether the four-minute initial charging procedure completed.

Make sure all four toner cartridges are in the correct color positions and locked.

Carefully wipe the LED heads with a dry, clean, lint-free cloth.

Inspect the accessible area for any remaining packaging material.

Do not wipe the green cylinders and do not try to clean them with solvent.

A vertical streak, repeating spots or a defect at a constant interval after replacement may indicate damage to the green surface, light exposure, contamination of the LED head or a defect in the new unit. If careful installation checks and cleaning the LED heads do not help, the drum should be checked by the seller or a service center.

When Service Is Required

Contact service support or the consumable seller if:

a new unit for the correct model does not clear Image Drum Life after the initial charging procedure has been completed;

error 340–343 remains after reinstalling the drum and transfer belt;

the unit does not fit into the guides or is visibly raised on one side;

a side pin, toner lock lever or belt lever is broken;

the temporary cartridges were missing or the charging process was interrupted by loss of power;

the device makes cracking, grinding or another new mechanical noise;

scratches, cracks, spilled toner or damage to the green surface are visible on the new drum;

the message returns with another new, known-good unit.

When contacting support, provide the exact model and serial number of the device, the full error code, the Image Drum part number, whether the unit was new, whether the four-minute initial charging procedure was performed, and which messages appeared after the toner cartridges were transferred.

If the OKI MC332, MC362 or MC562 displays Image Drum Near Life, Image Drum Life, Install New Image Drum, or error 340–343 or 350–353, first check the exact message text.
