They are intended for different tasks. Choosing the wrong one may result in missing settings, printing errors in certain programs, or a situation where an older installer does not detect the MFP.<\/p>\n<p>This guide explains which driver is suitable for normal office printing, graphics programs and XPS documents. It also provides two installation methods: the standard OKI installer and manual installation from an INF file. The manual method is useful if automatic detection cannot find the device over USB or the network.<\/p>\n<div style=\"background-color: #eef6ff; border-left: 5px solid #2271b1; margin: 20px 0; padding: 14px 18px;\">\n<p style=\"margin: 0 0 8px;\"><strong>Quick answer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0;\">For normal printing in <strong>Windows 11<\/strong>, first use the model-specific <strong>PCL5 Printer Driver 1.0.7<\/strong>: OKI officially lists Windows 11 for this driver. In <strong>Windows 10 x64<\/strong>, you can choose <strong>PCL XL 1.0.4<\/strong> or PCL5 for normal documents. The <strong>PS<\/strong> driver is mainly needed for PostScript, EPS and professional graphics programs. PCL XL may install in Windows 11, but for this version of Windows it cannot be considered an officially supported choice.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>PCL is recommended for normal office documents, PS for PostScript fonts and EPS, and PCL XPS for XPS applications. The XPS driver has an additional limitation: it cannot be used for the user access control function. Installing PCL5, PCL XL and PS at the same time is allowed, but several similar print queues will appear in Windows. The user may accidentally select the wrong queue.<\/p>\n<h2>Before Installation: Three Important Checks<\/h2>\n<h3>1. Check the System Type<\/h3>\n<p>Open <strong>Settings &gt; System &gt; About<\/strong> and find <strong>System type<\/strong>. The PCL XL file marked <code>x64<\/code> is intended for 64-bit Windows on Intel or AMD processors. It is not an ARM64 driver.<\/p>\n<div style=\"background-color: #fff0f0; border-left: 5px solid #d63638; margin: 20px 0; padding: 14px 18px;\">\n<p style=\"margin: 0 0 8px;\"><strong>Windows 11 on ARM<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0;\">Older model-specific OKI packages do not contain an ARM64 driver. Microsoft also warns that manufacturer installers may not work on ARM-based computers. First add the printer using Windows. Manually selecting an x64 INF file does not turn the driver into ARM64 and does not solve the architecture incompatibility.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h3>2. Check Windows Protected Print Mode<\/h3>\n<p>If <strong>Windows protected print mode<\/strong> is enabled in Windows 11, the system removes third-party print drivers and prevents the use of such model-specific packages. Open <strong>Settings &gt; Bluetooth &amp; devices &gt; Printers &amp; scanners<\/strong>, scroll down to the printer settings section and check the status of this mode.<\/p>\n<p>If you need the OKI driver settings, you will have to disable protected print mode and then reinstall the printer. If the mode is enabled by an organization policy, contact your administrator. Do not disable protection on a work computer without permission.<\/p>\n<h3>3. Determine the Connection Type<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>USB:<\/strong> for the initial installation, do not use a docking station or USB hub.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Network:<\/strong> determine the device&#8217;s current IPv4 address in advance. On the OKI control panel, open <strong>SETTING &gt; View Information &gt; Network<\/strong>. You can also print the <strong>SETTING &gt; Reports &gt; System &gt; Network Information<\/strong> report.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Method 1. Standard Installation Using the OKI Package<\/h2>\n<h3>Installation with a USB Connection<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Disconnect the USB cable from the computer. You can connect the cable to the USB connector on the rear of the MFP in advance, but do not connect the other end to the computer.<\/li>\n<li>Run the selected EXE file. Confirm the User Account Control prompt.<\/li>\n<li>Select the language, accept the license agreement and start the driver installation.<\/li>\n<li>Select the USB connection if the installer offers a choice.<\/li>\n<li>Connect the USB cable to the computer and turn on the MFP only when the installer asks you to do so.<\/li>\n<li>Wait for the device to be detected and complete the installation.<\/li>\n<li>If you are prompted to replace an older driver version, choose the new driver. If the installer requires a restart before continuing, restart the computer.<\/li>\n<li>If Windows displays the <strong>Program Compatibility Assistant<\/strong> window but the installation completed without an error, select <strong>This program installed correctly<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If the cable was connected beforehand, Windows may have created a queue using a universal driver, and the OKI installer may not associate that queue with its own driver.<\/p>\n<h3>Installing a Network Printer<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Connect the MFP and computer to the same accessible network.<\/li>\n<li>Write down the MFP&#8217;s IPv4 address.<\/li>\n<li>Run the selected OKI package and choose the network connection.<\/li>\n<li>Wait for the device search to complete.<\/li>\n<li>If the MFP is found, compare the IP address shown in the window with the address on the device control panel and continue the installation.<\/li>\n<li>If the device is not found, repeat the search. Then select search by <strong>Printer name\/IP Address<\/strong> and enter the IP address manually.<\/li>\n<li>Complete the installation and print a test page.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Automatic discovery may not work on a guest Wi-Fi network, between different VLANs, or when client isolation is enabled. In this situation, installation using the exact IP address is more reliable than broadcast discovery.<\/p>\n<h2>Method 2. Manual Installation from an INF File<\/h2>\n<p>Use this method if the EXE file extracts successfully but the installer cannot find the device or closes before creating a print queue.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 1. Extract the Package<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Create a separate folder for the downloaded EXE file.<\/li>\n<li>Run the EXE file. The self-extracting package will create a folder containing the driver files.<\/li>\n<li>If the installer opens automatically after extraction, close only the installer. Do not delete the extracted folder.<\/li>\n<li>Check that the required INF file from the table above is present.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>For manual installation, you do not need to convert the EXE file to ZIP. What matters is the extracted folder, the INF file and all accompanying driver files. Do not copy only the INF file: during installation, Windows will require catalogs, DLL files and other files from the same package.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 2. Open the Add Printer Wizard<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>In Windows 11, open <strong>Settings &gt; Bluetooth &amp; devices &gt; Printers &amp; scanners<\/strong>. In Windows 10, open <strong>Settings &gt; Devices &gt; Printers &amp; scanners<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Add device<\/strong> or <strong>Add a printer or scanner<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Wait for the search to finish.<\/li>\n<li>Next to the message indicating that the printer you want is not listed, select <strong>Add a new device manually<\/strong>. In Windows 10, click <strong>The printer that I want isn&#8217;t listed<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Step 3A. Select a Port for USB<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Connect the powered-on MFP directly to the computer.<\/li>\n<li>In the wizard, select <strong>Use an existing port<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>USB001 (Virtual printer port for USB)<\/strong>. If several USB printers have previously been connected, the port may be named USB002 or have another number.<\/li>\n<li>Continue to the driver selection step.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If no USB port is listed, Windows has not yet detected the printer&#8217;s USB interface. Do not create a random COM or FILE port. Check the cable, try another USB connector on the computer and check for an unknown device in Device Manager. After the device is detected again, return to the wizard.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 3B. Create a Port for a Network Connection<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>In the wizard, select <strong>Create a new port<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>In the port type field, select <strong>Standard TCP\/IP Port<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Enter the MFP&#8217;s current IPv4 address. Use a static address or DHCP reservation so that the address does not change after the router restarts.<\/li>\n<li>If the option to automatically detect the driver is available, clear it. The driver will be selected manually in the next step.<\/li>\n<li>If the wizard does not detect the device type, select a standard network card and continue.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>After installation, open <strong>Printer properties &gt; Ports<\/strong>, select the created port and click <strong>Configure Port<\/strong>. Normal direct printing uses the <strong>RAW<\/strong> protocol and port number <strong>9100<\/strong>. This is the standard value for the Windows TCP\/IP port monitor.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 4. Specify the INF File<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>In the manufacturer and printer selection window, click <strong>Have Disk<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Browse<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Open the extracted folder and select the INF file for the required driver type.<\/li>\n<li>Select the exact name of your OKI model from the list.<\/li>\n<li>Confirm the installation. If Windows asks which version to use when reinstalling the same driver, choose to replace the current driver.<\/li>\n<li>Enter a clear queue name, for example <strong>OKI MC562 PCL5 TCP-IP<\/strong> or <strong>OKI MC332 PS USB<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Do not enable printer sharing unless the printer needs to be shared with other computers through this PC.<\/li>\n<li>Print a test page.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>How to Check Which Driver Is Installed<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Open <strong>Settings &gt; Printers &amp; scanners<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select the required OKI queue.<\/li>\n<li>Open <strong>Printer properties<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>On the <strong>Advanced<\/strong> tab, check the <strong>Driver<\/strong> field.<\/li>\n<li>On the <strong>Ports<\/strong> tab, check the selected port: USB001 for USB or the IP address for a direct network connection.<\/li>\n<li>On the <strong>General<\/strong> tab, click <strong>Print Test Page<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If <strong>Microsoft IPP Class Driver<\/strong> is listed instead of a model-specific driver, Windows has installed a modern built-in driver. It may print without errors, but some OKI settings may be unavailable. If you need the features of the model-specific PCL5 or PS driver, install the OKI package manually and check the <strong>Driver<\/strong> field again.<\/p>\n<div style=\"background-color: #f4f4f4; border-left: 5px solid #646970; margin: 20px 0; padding: 14px 18px;\">\n<p style=\"margin: 0 0 8px;\"><strong>Why Windows is increasingly choosing IPP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0;\">Since July 1, 2026, Microsoft has changed the selection priority: the built-in Windows IPP driver is given priority over third-party drivers in Windows Update. This does not prevent you from installing the OKI package downloaded from the manufacturer&#8217;s website.
