When a paper jam occurs, Canon PIXMA MG3600 series stops printing, the Alarm lamp flashes, and support code 1300<\/strong>, 1303<\/strong>, or 1304<\/strong> appears on the computer.<\/p>\n

Sometimes the visible part of the sheet can be removed, but the paper jam message does not disappear. Usually, a small piece of paper remains inside, or the sheet is jammed in another part of the paper feed path.<\/p>\n

This guide applies to the following models:<\/p>\n

Canon PIXMA MG3610, MG3620, MG3640, MG3640S, MG3650, MG3650S, MG3660, MG3670, and MG3680.<\/strong><\/p>\n

All the devices listed above belong to Canon PIXMA MG3600 series. Model names vary depending on the country where the device is sold.<\/p>\n

\n

Do not pull the paper out with a sudden movement<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hold the sheet with both hands and remove it slowly. If the paper tears, a small fragment may remain inside and the paper jam message may appear again.<\/p>\n

Do not pull a jammed sheet forcefully through the front tray. This may damage the feeding mechanism.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

What codes 1300, 1303, and 1304 mean<\/h2>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

When these errors occur, the Alarm lamp usually flashes three times.<\/p>\n

Select the method based on the jam location<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  • The sheet is visible in the paper output tray \u2014 start with the method for code 1300.<\/li>\n
  • The sheet is not visible from outside \u2014 check the transport unit using the instructions for code 1303.<\/li>\n
  • The paper tore or part of the sheet remains inside \u2014 open the paper output cover and inspect the inside of the multifunction printer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n

    Before removing the jammed paper<\/h2>\n
      \n
    1. Press the Stop<\/strong> button to stop the current job.<\/li>\n
    2. Do not send new documents to print.<\/li>\n
    3. Remove any foreign objects from the paper output tray.<\/li>\n
    4. Inspect the visible part of the sheet.<\/li>\n
    5. Determine whether the paper can be removed safely through the paper output tray.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      You do not need to turn off the multifunction printer immediately if the sheet is clearly visible in the paper output tray and can be removed easily. To open the transport unit or inspect the inside of the device, turn off the multifunction printer and unplug it from the electrical outlet.<\/p>\n

      Method 1. Remove paper from the paper output tray when code 1300 appears<\/h2>\n

      Use this method when the jammed sheet is visible in the paper output area.<\/p>\n

        \n
      1. Press the Stop<\/strong> button.<\/li>\n
      2. Hold the visible edge of the sheet with both hands.<\/li>\n
      3. Slowly pull the paper in the direction of the output.<\/li>\n
      4. Do not pull the sheet by only one corner.<\/li>\n
      5. Make sure that the paper does not tear.<\/li>\n
      6. Remove the sheet completely.<\/li>\n
      7. Inspect it and make sure that all edges are intact.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
        \n

        Do not pull the sheet through the front tray<\/strong><\/p>\n

        Even if the edge of the paper is visible near the front tray, do not pull it out from there with force. Try to remove the sheet through the paper output area or the transport unit.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

        If the paper does not move<\/h3>\n
          \n
        1. Do not apply additional force.<\/li>\n
        2. Release the sheet.<\/li>\n
        3. Turn off the multifunction printer.<\/li>\n
        4. Wait several seconds.<\/li>\n
        5. Turn the device back on.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          When turned on, the multifunction printer may sometimes eject the jammed sheet automatically.<\/p>\n

          If the paper does not come out, check the transport unit.<\/p>\n

          After removing the sheet<\/h3>\n
            \n
          1. Align a new stack of paper.<\/li>\n
          2. Load it with the print side facing down.<\/li>\n
          3. Push the stack all the way to the back of the front tray.<\/li>\n
          4. Adjust the paper guides to the width of the paper.<\/li>\n
          5. Open the paper output tray.<\/li>\n
          6. Press the Black<\/strong> or Color<\/strong> button.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            If the page was not printed completely, send it to print again.<\/p>\n

            Method 2. Clear error 1303 through the transport unit<\/h2>\n

            Code 1303<\/strong> means that paper is jammed near the transport unit. This unit is located in the lower part of the multifunction printer.<\/p>\n

            Use this method if:<\/p>\n

              \n
            • the sheet is not visible in the paper output tray;<\/li>\n
            • the edge of the paper is visible near the front tray, but the sheet cannot be removed;<\/li>\n
            • code 1303 does not disappear after the visible paper is removed;<\/li>\n
            • the paper stopped in the lower part of the feed path;<\/li>\n
            • the multifunction printer continues reporting a paper jam after restarting.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

              Step 1. Stop printing and disconnect the power<\/h3>\n
                \n
              1. Press the Stop<\/strong> button.<\/li>\n
              2. Turn off the multifunction printer using the power button.<\/li>\n
              3. Wait until all lamps turn off completely.<\/li>\n
              4. Disconnect the power cable from the electrical outlet.<\/li>\n
              5. Disconnect the USB cable if it is connected.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                Step 2. Prepare the work area<\/h3>\n
                  \n
                1. Choose a wide and stable table.<\/li>\n
                2. Remove unnecessary objects from the table.<\/li>\n
                3. Close the scanner cover.<\/li>\n
                4. Make sure that the cover will not open while the multifunction printer is being moved.<\/li>\n
                5. If paper is visible in the front tray, leave the front tray open.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
                  \n

                  Hold the multifunction printer with both hands<\/strong><\/p>\n

                  Do not place the device on the edge of a table, a soft surface, or a narrow shelf. While opening the transport unit, support the body with one hand so that it does not fall.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

                  Step 3. Place the multifunction printer on its right side<\/h3>\n
                    \n
                  1. Hold the body with both hands.<\/li>\n
                  2. Carefully lift the multifunction printer.<\/li>\n
                  3. Place it on its right side.<\/li>\n
                  4. Make sure that the device is stable.<\/li>\n
                  5. Do not strike the body against the table.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                    Step 4. Open the transport unit<\/h3>\n
                      \n
                    1. Inspect the bottom of the multifunction printer.<\/li>\n
                    2. If packing or protective material remains on the transport unit, remove it.<\/li>\n
                    3. Find the transport unit lever.<\/li>\n
                    4. Support the body with one hand.<\/li>\n
                    5. Press the lever.<\/li>\n
                    6. Open the transport unit.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                      Do not release the body while opening the transport unit cover.<\/p>\n

                      Step 5. Remove the jammed paper<\/h3>\n
                        \n
                      1. Find the edge of the jammed sheet.<\/li>\n
                      2. Hold the paper with both hands if possible.<\/li>\n
                      3. Remove the sheet slowly.<\/li>\n
                      4. Support the body with your other hand.<\/li>\n
                      5. Make sure that the paper does not tear.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                        If the sheet is curled inside, carefully pull out its edge first. Then slowly remove the remaining part.<\/p>\n

                        If the sheet cannot be removed<\/h3>\n
                          \n
                        1. Do not use a screwdriver, tweezers, or another sharp tool.<\/li>\n
                        2. Do not pull the sheet with excessive force.<\/li>\n
                        3. Close the transport unit.<\/li>\n
                        4. Return the multifunction printer to its normal position.<\/li>\n
                        5. Inspect the inside of the device through the paper output cover.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                          Step 6. Close the transport unit<\/h3>\n
                            \n
                          1. Make sure that the paper has been removed completely.<\/li>\n
                          2. Close the transport unit.<\/li>\n
                          3. Make sure that it is locked in place.<\/li>\n
                          4. Immediately return the multifunction printer to its normal operating position.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                            Step 7. Turn on the multifunction printer<\/h3>\n
                              \n
                            1. Connect the power cable.<\/li>\n
                            2. Turn on the multifunction printer.<\/li>\n
                            3. Wait until the power lamp stops flashing.<\/li>\n
                            4. Load new, flat paper.<\/li>\n
                            5. Send the document to print again.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                              After the multifunction printer is turned off, jobs in its queue may be canceled. You may need to send the document again.<\/p>\n

                              Method 3. Clear error 1304 during duplex printing<\/h2>\n

                              Code 1304<\/strong> appears when paper is jammed during automatic printing on both sides.<\/p>\n

                              First, check the paper output area<\/h3>\n
                                \n
                              1. Press the Stop<\/strong> button.<\/li>\n
                              2. Inspect the paper output tray.<\/li>\n
                              3. If the sheet is visible, hold it with both hands.<\/li>\n
                              4. Slowly pull the paper in the direction of the output.<\/li>\n
                              5. Do not pull it through the front tray.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                                If the sheet was removed completely<\/h3>\n
                                  \n
                                1. Load suitable paper.<\/li>\n
                                2. Adjust the paper guides.<\/li>\n
                                3. Press the Black<\/strong> or Color<\/strong> button.<\/li>\n
                                4. Print the damaged or missing page again.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                                  If the paper cannot be removed through the paper output tray<\/h3>\n

                                  Turn off the multifunction printer, disconnect the power, and follow the transport unit opening procedure described for code 1303.<\/p>\n

                                  \n

                                  Automatic duplex printing requires suitable paper<\/strong><\/p>\n

                                  For automatic printing on both sides, use A4 or Letter plain paper. An unsupported size, thick media, or a curled sheet may cause another paper jam.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

                                  Method 4. Remove a torn piece of paper from inside the multifunction printer<\/h2>\n

                                  Use this method if:<\/p>\n

                                    \n
                                  • the sheet tore during removal;<\/li>\n
                                  • part of the paper remains inside;<\/li>\n
                                  • the paper cannot be removed through the transport unit;<\/li>\n
                                  • the paper jam code appears after the visible sheet is removed;<\/li>\n
                                  • the sound of paper can be heard inside the body;<\/li>\n
                                  • the carriage cannot move freely.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                                    Step 1. Disconnect the power<\/h3>\n
                                      \n
                                    1. Press the Stop<\/strong> button.<\/li>\n
                                    2. Turn off the multifunction printer.<\/li>\n
                                    3. Disconnect the power cable.<\/li>\n
                                    4. Remove the paper from the front tray.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                                      Step 2. Open the paper output cover<\/h3>\n
                                        \n
                                      1. Open the paper output cover.<\/li>\n
                                      2. Wait until the internal parts have stopped completely.<\/li>\n
                                      3. Inspect the space inside the multifunction printer.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
                                        \n

                                        Do not touch the clear film inside the multifunction printer<\/strong><\/p>\n

                                        The clear film runs along the inside of the device near the cartridge holder.<\/p>\n

                                        Do not touch it with your hands or paper, wipe it, or pull it. Contamination or damage to this part may cause printing and carriage movement errors.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

                                        Step 3. Check the area under the cartridge holder<\/h3>\n
                                          \n
                                        1. Check whether paper is located under the cartridge holder.<\/li>\n
                                        2. If the holder is covering the sheet, hold the top of the holder.<\/li>\n
                                        3. Slowly move the holder to the right or left.<\/li>\n
                                        4. Choose the side from which it is easier to remove the paper.<\/li>\n
                                        5. Do not push the holder suddenly.<\/li>\n
                                        6. Do not touch the clear film.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                                          Step 4. Remove the paper<\/h3>\n
                                            \n
                                          1. Hold the jammed sheet with both hands.<\/li>\n
                                          2. If it is curled, carefully straighten or pull out the edge first.<\/li>\n
                                          3. Remove the sheet slowly.<\/li>\n
                                          4. Do not pull it at an angle.<\/li>\n
                                          5. Make sure that the paper does not tear again.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                                            Step 5. Check all areas inside<\/h3>\n

                                            After removing the main sheet, carefully inspect:<\/p>\n
