When printing with a Canon PIXMA MG2500 series device, the bottom line of text, page number, signature, or part of an image may not appear. The document looks correct on the screen, but the bottom part is cut off on the printed page.<\/p>\n

Some programs may also lack a borderless printing option, and photos may print with a white border. This usually does not mean that the multifunction printer or driver is faulty. The reason is related to the area of the sheet where the device physically cannot print.<\/p>\n

This guide applies to the following models:<\/p>\n

Canon PIXMA MG2510, MG2520, MG2522, MG2525, MG2540, MG2540S, MG2541S, MG2550, MG2550S, MG2555, MG2560, MG2570, MG2570S, MG2577S, MG2580, MG2580S, and MG2590.<\/strong><\/p>\n

All the devices listed above belong to the Canon PIXMA MG2500 series family and have the same basic printable-area limitations.<\/p>\n

The bottom margin is a design limitation of the multifunction printer<\/strong><\/p>\n

Canon MG2500 series cannot print within an area approximately 16.7 mm wide along the bottom edge of the sheet<\/strong>. If text, a page number, or an image falls within this area, it will be cut off.<\/p>\n

Reinstalling the driver, cleaning the print head, and replacing the cartridges will not remove this limitation. You need to reduce the document or move its content farther away from the bottom edge.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Which part of the page is available for printing<\/h2>\n

For A4 paper, the printable area measures 203.2 \u00d7 277.3 mm. The minimum top margin is 3 mm, the bottom margin is 16.7 mm, and the left and right margins are 3.4 mm each. For Letter paper, the bottom margin is also 16.7 mm, while the side margins are approximately 6.4 mm. These dimensions are specified in the official Canon manual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

Why the document is cut off<\/h2>\n

The most common causes are:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • printing at 100% scale or Actual size<\/strong> is selected in the program;<\/li>\n
  • the document\u2019s bottom margin is less than 16.7 mm;<\/li>\n
  • the page number is positioned too close to the bottom edge;<\/li>\n
  • the document page size does not match the loaded paper;<\/li>\n
  • Letter is selected in the document, but A4 paper is loaded in the printer;<\/li>\n
  • the wrong paper size is selected in the Canon driver;<\/li>\n
  • the image is stretched to the edges of the sheet;<\/li>\n
  • the user is trying to enable borderless printing, which this series does not support.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Method 1. Fit a PDF file to the printable area<\/h2>\n

    If the bottom part is cut off when printing a PDF, first use automatic page fitting. Adobe Acrobat Reader can reduce the content to fit within the area available to the printer.<\/p>\n

    Printing with Adobe Acrobat Reader<\/h3>\n
      \n
    1. Open the PDF file in Adobe Acrobat Reader.<\/li>\n
    2. Press Ctrl + P<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    3. At the top of the window, select Canon MG2500 series Printer<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    4. Under Page Sizing & Handling<\/strong>, select Size<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    5. Select Fit<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    6. Do not select Actual size<\/strong>. In this mode, parts of the page that extend beyond the printable area may be cut off.<\/li>\n
    7. Make sure that the bottom part of the document is visible in the preview.<\/li>\n
    8. Click Print<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      If \u201cFit\u201d reduces the document too much<\/h3>\n
        \n
      1. Open the print window again by pressing Ctrl + P<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
      2. Select Size<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
      3. Select Custom Scale<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
      4. Enter 97%<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
      5. Check the preview.<\/li>\n
      6. If the bottom part is still too close to the edge, set the scale to 95%<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
      7. Click Print<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Reducing the scale to 95\u201397% is usually enough to move the page number or bottom line into the printable area.<\/p>\n

        \n

        Do not select Legal unless you are using Legal paper<\/strong><\/p>\n

        Changing the paper size from A4 or Letter to Legal does not make the physical sheet larger. If A4 paper is loaded in the tray, A4 must also be selected in the program and the driver.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

        Method 2. Increase the bottom margin in Microsoft Word<\/h2>\n

        If a Word document is cut off, increase the bottom margin. For reliable printing, it is recommended to set it to at least 2 cm<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

        1. Open the document in Microsoft Word.<\/li>\n
        2. Go to the Layout<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n
        3. Click Margins<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
        4. At the bottom of the menu, select Custom Margins<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
        5. Find the Bottom<\/strong> field.<\/li>\n
        6. Enter 2 cm<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
        7. Click OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
        8. Open File<\/strong> \u2192 Print<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
        9. Check the page in the preview area.<\/li>\n
        10. Select Canon MG2500 series Printer<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
        11. Click Print<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          In Microsoft Word, the path for creating custom margins is Layout \u2192 Margins \u2192 Custom Margins<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

          If the page number is cut off<\/h3>\n

          The page number may be positioned in the footer too close to the edge of the sheet.<\/p>\n

            \n
          1. Double-click the bottom part of the page with the left mouse button.<\/li>\n
          2. The footer area will open.<\/li>\n
          3. Select the page number.<\/li>\n
          4. Move it higher by adding a blank line before the number or by changing the footer position.<\/li>\n
          5. Close the footer area by clicking Close Header and Footer<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
          6. Open File<\/strong> \u2192 Print<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
          7. Check the position of the number in the preview.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            If the page number is below the printable-area boundary, the printer will not be able to print it completely, even if the rest of the text prints correctly.<\/p>\n

            Method 3. Check the paper size in Word<\/h2>\n

            Clipping may occur if the document was created in Letter size while A4 paper is being used, or vice versa.<\/p>\n

              \n
            1. Open the document in Word.<\/li>\n
            2. Go to the Layout<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n
            3. Click Size<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
            4. If A4 paper is loaded in the printer, select A4 210 \u00d7 297 mm<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
            5. If Letter paper is being used, select Letter 21.59 \u00d7 27.94 cm<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
            6. Click File<\/strong> \u2192 Print<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
            7. Make sure that the same size is specified in the print settings.<\/li>\n
            8. Click Print<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

              Do not change the size only in the printer driver. The page size in the document and the actual paper size must match.<\/p>\n

              Method 4. Enable Fit-to-Page Printing in the Canon driver<\/h2>\n

              The Canon driver can automatically reduce or enlarge the document according to the selected paper size. Canon calls this feature Fit-to-Page Printing.<\/p>\n

              1. Open the document that you want to print.<\/li>\n
              2. Press Ctrl + P<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
              3. Select Canon MG2500 series Printer<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
              4. Click Printer Properties<\/strong>, Preferences<\/strong>, or Properties<\/strong>. The button name depends on the program.<\/li>\n
              5. Open the Page Setup<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n
              6. In the Page Layout<\/strong> field, select the fit-to-page option.<\/li>\n
              7. In the Page Size<\/strong> field, select the size of the original document.<\/li>\n
              8. In the Printer Paper Size<\/strong> field, select the size of the paper actually loaded, such as A4<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
              9. Click OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
              10. Check the preview.<\/li>\n
              11. Click Print<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                If the printer paper size is smaller than the document size, the driver will automatically reduce the page.<\/p>\n

                Method 5. Reduce the image or photo<\/h2>\n

                If the bottom part of an image is cut off, do not stretch the photo to all edges of the sheet.<\/p>\n

                Printing an image through a Windows app<\/h3>\n

                1. Right-click the image file.<\/li>\n
                2. Select Open with<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
                3. Open the image in the Photos<\/strong> app.<\/li>\n
                4. Press Ctrl + P<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
                5. Select Canon MG2500 series Printer<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
                6. Specify the actual paper size.<\/li>\n
                7. Find the photo placement setting.<\/li>\n
                8. Select an option that fits the entire image on the page.<\/li>\n
                9. Do not select an option that fills the entire sheet if the image edges disappear in the preview.<\/li>\n
                10. Click Print<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                  If the program does not provide a suitable option, reduce the image beforehand in an image editor or add white margins around it.<\/p>\n

                  Method 6. Reduce the scale when printing from a browser<\/h2>\n

                  Web pages, electronic tickets, receipts, and documents from online accounts may be designed to print all the way to the edge of the sheet.<\/p>\n

                  Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge<\/h3>\n
                    \n
                  1. Open the page that you want to print.<\/li>\n
                  2. Press Ctrl + P<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
                  3. Select Canon MG2500 series Printer<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
                  4. Open More settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
                  5. Find the Scale<\/strong> setting.<\/li>\n
                  6. Select Custom<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
                  7. Enter 95<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
                  8. Check the preview.<\/li>\n
                  9. If the bottom part still does not fit, set the value to 90<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
                  10. Click Print<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                    If the page contains unnecessary advertising blocks or sidebars, you can first save it as a PDF and then print the PDF with Fit<\/strong> selected.<\/p>\n

                    Method 7. Fix clipping when copying<\/h2>\n

                    If the original completely fills the platen glass, the bottom part may also fail to print during normal copying. The official Canon manual states that the area near the edge of the original cannot be reproduced completely on paper.<\/p>\n

                    The Canon MG2500 series operation panel does not allow you to reduce a copy by a specified percentage. Therefore, use a computer to preserve the entire page:<\/p>\n

                    1. Place the original on the platen glass.<\/li>\n
                    2. Open IJ Scan Utility<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
                    3. Click Document<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
                    4. Save the scanned page in PDF or JPEG format.<\/li>\n
                    5. Open the saved file.<\/li>\n
                    6. Press Ctrl + P<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
                    7. Select Canon MG2500 series Printer<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
                    8. Select Fit<\/strong> or set the scale to 95%.<\/li>\n
                    9. Print the document.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                      Why borderless printing cannot be enabled<\/h2>\n

                      Canon PIXMA MG2500 series does not support full borderless printing. Therefore, the corresponding option may be missing from the driver properties, and photos will print with a white border. This limitation for the MG2522 model has also been confirmed by a Canon specialist.<\/p>\n
