In macOS, these devices are detected as the <strong>Canon TS9500 series<\/strong> family.<\/p>\n<p>A separate Canon driver is usually not required for standard printing. macOS uses the built-in <strong>AirPrint<\/strong> technology. The Mac may remain connected to another band of the same router, provided that both bands are part of the same local network and the router does not isolate the devices.<\/p>\n<h3>Do Not Connect to a Guest Network<\/h3>\n<p>It is not recommended to select a network whose name contains:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Guest;<\/li>\n<li>Guest Network;<\/li>\n<li>Visitor;<\/li>\n<li>Public.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Guest mode often blocks communication between devices. As a result, the Mac may have Internet access but still be unable to detect the printer.<\/p>\n<h2>Add a Network Printer in macOS<\/h2>\n<h3>Step 1: Open the Printer List<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>On the Mac, open the <strong>Apple<\/strong> menu.<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>System Settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>In the sidebar, open <strong>Printers &amp; Scanners<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The device search window will open. It may take several minutes for the list to appear.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 2: Select the Correct Canon Entry<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Make sure the <strong>Default<\/strong> tab is selected at the top of the window.<\/li>\n<li>Wait for Canon TS9500 Series to appear.<\/li>\n<li>Select the device whose type is shown as:\n<pre style=\"background: #f4f4f4; border: 1px solid #ddd; padding: 12px; white-space: pre-wrap; overflow-x: auto;\">Bonjour Multifunction<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The device name may appear in different forms:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Canon TS9500 series;<\/li>\n<li>Canon TS9540 series;<\/li>\n<li>Canon TS9550 series;<\/li>\n<li>TS9500 series;<\/li>\n<li>a custom Bonjour name assigned by the printer owner.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If several identical devices are displayed, compare their network names or MAC addresses.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 3: Select AirPrint<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>After selecting the printer, find the <strong>Use<\/strong> field.<\/li>\n<li>Select:\n<pre style=\"background: #f4f4f4; border: 1px solid #ddd; padding: 12px; white-space: pre-wrap; overflow-x: auto;\">Secure AirPrint<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>If Secure AirPrint is unavailable but <strong>AirPrint<\/strong> is listed, select AirPrint.<\/li>\n<li>Do not select software intended for another model.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Add<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Wait while macOS creates the print queue and adds the scanning component of the device.<\/p>\n<div style=\"background-color: #fffbf0; border-left: 5px solid #ff9800; padding: 20px; margin: 25px 0; border-radius: 4px; box-shadow: 0 1px 3px rgba(0,0,0,0.05);\">\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0;\"><strong>Select Bonjour Multifunction<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The list may contain a separate printer or scanner entry. For a Canon multifunction printer, it is preferable to select the device whose type is <strong>Bonjour Multifunction<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0;\">This entry is intended to support both printing and scanning.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Test Printing over Wi-Fi<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Open the <strong>TextEdit<\/strong> application.<\/li>\n<li>Create a new document.<\/li>\n<li>Enter several lines of text.<\/li>\n<li>Open the <strong>File<\/strong> menu.<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>Print<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>In the <strong>Printer<\/strong> field, select Canon TS9500 Series.<\/li>\n<li>Select A4 as the paper size.<\/li>\n<li>Select one copy.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Print<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If the page prints, the connection and AirPrint are configured correctly.<\/p>\n<h2>Check the Built-In Scanner<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Open <strong>Apple \u2192 System Settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Go to <strong>Printers &amp; Scanners<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select Canon TS9500 Series.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Open Scanner<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If the button is available, macOS has detected the scanning component of the multifunction printer.<\/p>\n<h3>Test Scanning from the Platen<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Place the document face down on the scanner glass.<\/li>\n<li>Align it with the mark in the corner of the glass.<\/li>\n<li>Close the cover.<\/li>\n<li>In the scanning window, select the flatbed scanner mode.<\/li>\n<li>Select color or black-and-white mode.<\/li>\n<li>Set the resolution to 300 dpi.<\/li>\n<li>Select the save folder.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Scan<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Test Scanning Through the ADF<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Remove the original from the scanner glass.<\/li>\n<li>Open the automatic document feeder tray.<\/li>\n<li>Load the document with the side to be scanned facing up.<\/li>\n<li>Move the document guides against the edges of the paper.<\/li>\n<li>In the scanner window, enable <strong>Use Document Feeder<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select the format and resolution.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Scan<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Advanced scanning and creating multipage PDF files will be covered in a separate article.<\/p>\n<h2>Method 2: Connect via Ethernet<\/h2>\n<p>With a wired connection, the printer is connected to the router using an Ethernet cable. Connecting an Ethernet cable directly between the printer and Mac is usually unnecessary.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 1: Connect the Network Cable<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Place the printer near the router or a network wall outlet.<\/li>\n<li>Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the network port on the rear of the printer.<\/li>\n<li>Connect the other end to an available LAN port on the router.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure the connectors click into place.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Step 2: Enable the Wired Network<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>On the printer\u2019s Home screen, tap the network icon.<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>Wired LAN<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Open <strong>Settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select the option to enable or disable the wired LAN.<\/li>\n<li>Set it to <strong>Enable<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Return to the Home screen.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>After the connection is established, a wired network icon should appear on the screen.<\/p>\n<div style=\"background-color: #fffbf0; border-left: 5px solid #ff9800; padding: 20px; margin: 25px 0; border-radius: 4px; box-shadow: 0 1px 3px rgba(0,0,0,0.05);\">\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0;\"><strong>Wi-Fi and Ethernet cannot be used on the printer at the same time<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0;\">After the wired LAN is enabled, the printer\u2019s wireless connection may be disabled. The Mac can remain connected to the same router over Wi-Fi.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Step 3: Add the Printer on the Mac<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Open <strong>System Settings \u2192 Printers &amp; Scanners<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Wait for the Canon device to appear.<\/li>\n<li>Select the entry whose type is <strong>Bonjour Multifunction<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>In the <strong>Use<\/strong> field, select <strong>Secure AirPrint<\/strong> or <strong>AirPrint<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Add<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The Mac does not have to be connected to the router by cable. It can use Wi-Fi as long as it is on the same local network.<\/p>\n<h2>Method 3: Connect via USB<\/h2>\n<p>With a USB connection, the printer works only with the computer to which the cable is connected, unless printer sharing is also configured on the Mac.<\/p>\n<h3>Which Cable Is Required?<\/h3>\n<p>The printer uses a USB Type-B port. It has an almost square shape.<\/p>\n<p>Depending on the Mac model, you will need:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a USB-A to USB-B cable;<\/li>\n<li>a USB-C to USB-B cable;<\/li>\n<li>a USB-A to USB-B cable and a USB-C adapter.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The cable and adapter must support data transfer. A charge-only cable will not work.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 1: Connect the Printer<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Turn on the Canon TS9500 Series printer.<\/li>\n<li>Wait for the Home screen to appear.<\/li>\n<li>Connect the USB-B plug to the port on the rear of the printer.<\/li>\n<li>Connect the other end of the cable directly to the Mac.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>For the initial test, do not use:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a low-quality USB hub;<\/li>\n<li>an old docking station;<\/li>\n<li>a long USB extension cable;<\/li>\n<li>a USB port on a monitor;<\/li>\n<li>a damaged adapter.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Step 2: Wait for Automatic Addition<\/h3>\n<p>After the printer is connected via USB, macOS usually adds it automatically.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Wait several minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Open <strong>System Settings \u2192 Printers &amp; Scanners<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Check whether Canon TS9500 Series appears.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If the printer appears, open TextEdit and perform a test print.<\/p>\n<h3>If the USB Printer Is Not Added Automatically<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Open <strong>System Settings \u2192 Printers &amp; Scanners<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select the Canon printer connected via USB.<\/li>\n<li>In the <strong>Use<\/strong> field, select <strong>AirPrint<\/strong> if this option is available.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Add<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>If the Mac Does Not Respond to the USB Connection<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Disconnect the USB cable.<\/li>\n<li>Turn off the printer.<\/li>\n<li>Restart the Mac.<\/li>\n<li>Turn on the printer.<\/li>\n<li>Connect the cable to another port.<\/li>\n<li>Try another working cable.<\/li>\n<li>If an adapter is being used, try another adapter that supports data transfer.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>To check whether the device is detected:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Hold down the <strong>Option<\/strong> key.<\/li>\n<li>Open the <strong>Apple<\/strong> menu.<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>System Information<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Open the <strong>USB<\/strong> section.<\/li>\n<li>Check whether Canon TS9500 Series is listed.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If the printer does not appear even in the USB section, the problem is related to the cable, adapter, port, or the printer\u2019s USB connector.<\/p>\n<h2>Direct Wireless Connection Without a Router<\/h2>\n<p>Canon TS9500 Series supports Wireless Direct. In this mode, the printer creates its own wireless network.<\/p>\n<p>The network name looks similar to:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"background: #f4f4f4; border: 1px solid #ddd; padding: 12px; white-space: pre-wrap; overflow-x: auto;\">DIRECT-XX-TS9500series<\/pre>\n<p>This method is useful when no router is available nearby. However, when the Mac connects to the printer\u2019s network, Internet access may be temporarily unavailable.<\/p>\n<h3>Enable Wireless Direct<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>On the Home screen, tap the network icon.<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>Wireless Direct<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Enable the mode.<\/li>\n<li>Open the settings list.<\/li>\n<li>Write down the network name and password.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Connect the Mac<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>On the Mac, click the Wi-Fi icon.<\/li>\n<li>Select the network whose name begins with DIRECT.<\/li>\n<li>Enter the password shown on the printer\u2019s screen.<\/li>\n<li>Add the Canon printer through <strong>Printers &amp; Scanners<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select AirPrint.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>For regular use, it is more convenient to connect the printer and Mac to a standard router.<\/p>\n<h2>If Canon Does Not Appear in the macOS List<\/h2>\n<p>Check the following conditions:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The printer is turned on.<\/li>\n<li>No error is displayed on the touchscreen.<\/li>\n<li>The Mac and printer are connected to the same network.<\/li>\n<li>The printer is not connected to a guest network.<\/li>\n<li>The VPN is disabled on the Mac.<\/li>\n<li>The router is not using wireless client isolation.<\/li>\n<li>Bonjour is enabled on the printer.<\/li>\n<li>At least one minute has passed since the printer was turned on.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Restart the Network Devices<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Turn off the printer.<\/li>\n<li>Restart the router.<\/li>\n<li>Wait until Internet access is fully restored.<\/li>\n<li>Turn on the printer.<\/li>\n<li>Wait one or two minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Restart the Mac.<\/li>\n<li>Search again.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Check Bonjour on the Printer<\/h2>\n<p>AirPrint uses Bonjour to discover the network device.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>On the printer, open <strong>Setup<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>Device settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Open <strong>LAN settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select the connection being used: Wi-Fi or wired LAN.<\/li>\n<li>Open the advanced settings.<\/li>\n<li>Find <strong>Bonjour settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Set it to <strong>Enable<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>After changing the setting, turn the printer off and on again, and then try adding it on the Mac again.<\/p>\n<h2>Local Network Permission in macOS 15 and Later<\/h2>\n<p>In macOS Sequoia 15, macOS Tahoe 26, and later versions, applications must obtain separate permission to discover devices on the local network.<\/p>\n<p>This is particularly important when using:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Canon Setup;<\/li>\n<li>IJ Scan Utility Lite;<\/li>\n<li>other Canon network utilities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li>Open <strong>System Settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>Privacy &amp; Security<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Open <strong>Local Network<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Find the Canon application.<\/li>\n<li>Turn on the switch next to it.<\/li>\n<li>Quit the application completely.<\/li>\n<li>Open it again.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If the application is not listed, start it and search for the printer again. macOS may display a new request for local network access.<\/p>\n<h2>Add Canon by IP Address<\/h2>\n<p>Use this method if the printer is connected to the network but does not appear in the Bonjour list.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 1: Find the IP Address<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>On the printer, open <strong>Setup<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>Device settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Open <strong>LAN settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select the connection being used.<\/li>\n<li>Open the current settings list.<\/li>\n<li>Find the <strong>IPv4 address<\/strong> line.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The address looks similar to:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"background: #f4f4f4; border: 1px solid #ddd; padding: 12px; white-space: pre-wrap; overflow-x: auto;\">192.168.1.125<\/pre>\n<p>Use the actual address of your printer, not the value from this example.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 2: Add the Device<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>On the Mac, open <strong>System Settings \u2192 Printers &amp; Scanners<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Open the <strong>IP<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n<li>Enter the printer\u2019s address.<\/li>\n<li>For the protocol, first select AirPrint or IPP if that option is available.<\/li>\n<li>Leave the queue field blank unless the network requires another value.<\/li>\n<li>In the <strong>Use<\/strong> field, select AirPrint.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Add<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>When the printer is added through a general network protocol, some multifunction features may be limited.
