In some cases, Windows detects the printer, but the Canon installer continues to display a window asking you to connect the device.<\/p>\n<p>This guide applies to the following models:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Canon PIXMA TS9540;<\/li>\n<li>Canon PIXMA TS9540A;<\/li>\n<li>Canon PIXMA TS9541C;<\/li>\n<li>Canon PIXMA TS9550;<\/li>\n<li>Canon PIXMA TS9550A;<\/li>\n<li>Canon PIXMA TS9551C;<\/li>\n<li>Canon PIXMA TS9551CA.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All the models listed above belong to the Canon TS9500 series and use the same <strong>MP Drivers Ver. 1.06<\/strong> package.<\/p>\n<div style=\"background-color: #fffbf0; border-left: 5px solid #ff9800; padding: 20px; margin: 25px 0; border-radius: 4px; box-shadow: 0 1px 3px rgba(0,0,0,0.05);\">\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0;\"><strong>The main rule for USB installation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0;\">Do not connect the USB cable before starting the installer. First, start MP Drivers, select a USB connection, and wait for the message asking you to connect the printer to the computer. Only then should you connect the cable and turn on the printer.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Why Windows Does Not Detect the Printer via USB<\/h2>\n<p>The most common causes are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the cable is faulty or designed only for charging;<\/li>\n<li>a USB hub, docking station, or adapter is being used;<\/li>\n<li>the cable is too long;<\/li>\n<li>the computer\u2019s USB port is faulty;<\/li>\n<li>a damaged entry from a previous installation remains in Windows;<\/li>\n<li>the USB controller driver is not working correctly;<\/li>\n<li>the installer was started without administrator privileges;<\/li>\n<li>a previous MP Drivers installation ended with an error;<\/li>\n<li>antivirus software blocked installer components;<\/li>\n<li>the printer\u2019s USB port is faulty.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Method 1: Check the Printer\u2019s Power and Screen<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Disconnect the USB cable from the computer.<\/li>\n<li>Press the printer\u2019s power button.<\/li>\n<li>Wait for the Home screen to appear.<\/li>\n<li>Check whether a support code or error message is displayed.<\/li>\n<li>If an error is displayed, resolve it before installing the driver.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The printer must turn on completely. Do not use a USB hub, a USB port on a monitor or keyboard, a docking station, or an external adapter.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Method 3: Try Another USB Port<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Leave the printer turned on.<\/li>\n<li>Disconnect the USB cable from the computer.<\/li>\n<li>Wait 10\u201315 seconds.<\/li>\n<li>Connect the cable to another USB port.<\/li>\n<li>Wait approximately one minute.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>On a desktop computer, it is best to use a USB port on the back of the system unit. These ports are usually connected directly to the motherboard.<\/p>\n<p>If the printer is detected only through one specific port, another USB port on the computer may be faulty.<\/p>\n<h2>Method 4: Check the USB Cable<\/h2>\n<p>Even if the cable looks undamaged, an internal data wire may be broken.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Use another known working USB Type-B cable.<\/li>\n<li>Use a short cable without extension cables.<\/li>\n<li>Connect it directly to the computer.<\/li>\n<li>Turn on the printer.<\/li>\n<li>Check whether Windows plays the device connection sound.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If the printer is detected with another cable, replace the old cable.<\/p>\n<p>Do not use a cable designed only for charging. Do not disconnect the cable or close the installer.<\/p>\n<h2>If the Installer Does Not Proceed Beyond the Connection Screen<\/h2>\n<p>If the printer is turned on and connected, but the installer continues waiting for the device:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Without closing the installer, disconnect the USB cable from the computer.<\/li>\n<li>Wait 10 seconds.<\/li>\n<li>Connect the cable to another USB port.<\/li>\n<li>Wait approximately one minute.<\/li>\n<li>Check Device Manager.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If the device does not appear:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>replace the USB cable;<\/li>\n<li>restart the computer;<\/li>\n<li>repeat the installation with the cable disconnected;<\/li>\n<li>test the connection on another computer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If the device appears in Device Manager with an error, remove the unknown device, restart Windows, and repeat the installation.<\/p>\n<h2>Method 8: Remove an Incomplete Driver Installation<\/h2>\n<p>If the installation was interrupted several times, old components may prevent a new installation.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Disconnect the USB cable.<\/li>\n<li>Turn off the printer.<\/li>\n<li>Press <strong>Windows + R<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Enter:\n<pre style=\"background: #f4f4f4; border: 1px solid #ddd; padding: 12px; white-space: pre-wrap; overflow-x: auto;\">appwiz.cpl<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Find <strong>Canon TS9500 series MP Drivers<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select the program.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Uninstall<\/strong> or <strong>Uninstall\/Change<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Confirm the uninstallation.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Then remove the printer entry that was created:<\/p>\n<h3>Windows 11<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Open <strong>Settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Go to <strong>Bluetooth &amp; devices \u2192 Printers &amp; scanners<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>Canon TS9500 series<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Remove<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Windows 10<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Open <strong>Settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Go to <strong>Devices \u2192 Printers &amp; scanners<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>Canon TS9500 series<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Remove device<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>After removal:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Restart the computer.<\/li>\n<li>Do not connect the USB cable.<\/li>\n<li>Run the new installation file as an administrator.<\/li>\n<li>Connect the printer only after the installer displays a message.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Method 9: Check the Print Spooler Service<\/h2>\n<p>The installer may not complete printer registration if the Windows printing service is stopped.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Press <strong>Windows + R<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Enter:\n<pre style=\"background: #f4f4f4; border: 1px solid #ddd; padding: 12px; white-space: pre-wrap; overflow-x: auto;\">services.msc<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Find the <strong>Print Spooler<\/strong> service.<\/li>\n<li>Right-click it.<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>Properties<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>For <strong>Startup type<\/strong>, select <strong>Automatic<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>If the service is stopped, click <strong>Start<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Apply<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Then repeat the MP Drivers installation.<\/p>\n<h2>Method 10: Check Bidirectional Communication<\/h2>\n<p>Canon recommends enabling bidirectional communication in the driver properties. Without it, Windows may not receive printer status information.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Press <strong>Windows + R<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Enter:\n<pre style=\"background: #f4f4f4; border: 1px solid #ddd; padding: 12px; white-space: pre-wrap; overflow-x: auto;\">control printers<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Right-click <strong>Canon TS9500 series<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>Printer properties<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Open the <strong>Ports<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>Enable bidirectional support<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Apply<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The setting name may vary slightly between different versions of Windows.<\/p>\n<h2>Method 11: Check the Printer\u2019s USB Port in the Properties<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Open <strong>Printer properties<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Go to the <strong>Ports<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>For a USB connection, one of the following ports is normally selected:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"background: #f4f4f4; border: 1px solid #ddd; padding: 12px; white-space: pre-wrap; overflow-x: auto;\">USB001\r\nUSB002\r\nUSB003<\/pre>\n<p><strong>Canon TS9500 series<\/strong> should be shown next to the selected port.<\/p>\n<p>If a WSD port, TCP\/IP port, or port for another printer is selected:<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>Find the USB port associated with Canon TS9500 series.<\/li>\n<li>Select the checkbox next to it.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Apply<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Print a test page.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Do not select a random USB port if no Canon device is shown next to it.<\/p>\n<h2>Method 12: Update the USB Controller Drivers<\/h2>\n<p>If other USB devices also disconnect periodically, the problem may be related to the computer\u2019s drivers.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open <strong>Settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Go to <strong>Windows Update<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Check for updates<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Install the available updates.<\/li>\n<li>Open <strong>Optional updates<\/strong> if this section is available.<\/li>\n<li>Check for USB, chipset, or motherboard driver updates.<\/li>\n<li>Restart the computer.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>For a laptop, it is also recommended that you check the manufacturer\u2019s website and install the latest motherboard, chipset, and USB controller drivers for the exact computer model.<\/p>\n<h2>Method 13: Disable USB Power Saving<\/h2>\n<p>Use this method if the printer is detected normally after the computer starts but disappears after sleep or a long period of inactivity.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open <strong>Device Manager<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Expand <strong>Universal Serial Bus controllers<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Open the properties of <strong>USB Root Hub<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Go to the <strong>Power Management<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n<li>Clear the <strong>Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power<\/strong> checkbox.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Change this setting only for the USB hub through which the printer is connected. On some computers, the Power Management tab is unavailable.<\/p>\n<h2>Method 14: Test the Printer on Another Computer<\/h2>\n<p>This is one of the most useful tests when the message <strong>\u201cUSB device not recognized\u201d<\/strong> appears.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Use a known working USB cable.<\/li>\n<li>Connect the printer to another computer.<\/li>\n<li>Turn on the printer.<\/li>\n<li>Check whether the operating system responds to the connection.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Possible results:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the printer is detected on another computer \u2014 the problem is related to Windows, the USB port, or the drivers on the first computer;<\/li>\n<li>the printer is not detected on another computer either \u2014 check the cable and the printer\u2019s USB port;<\/li>\n<li>everything works with another cable \u2014 replace the old cable;<\/li>\n<li>the printer is detected, but MP Drivers cannot be installed \u2014 completely remove the old driver.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>If Printing Works but the Scanner Is Not Detected<\/h2>\n<p>If Windows detects the printer and documents print successfully, the USB connection is already working. In this case, the problem is usually related to the ScanGear scanner driver or IJ Scan Utility rather than the cable.<\/p>\n<p>Perform the following steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Check whether IJ Scan Utility is available in the <strong>Start<\/strong> menu.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure <strong>Canon TS9500 series<\/strong> is selected.<\/li>\n<li>Restart the <strong>Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)<\/strong> service.<\/li>\n<li>If necessary, reinstall the complete MP Drivers package.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>There is no need to replace the USB cable if printing through it works reliably.<\/p>\n<h2>If Windows Automatically Added the Printer Before the Driver Was Installed<\/h2>\n<p>Windows may automatically create the device immediately after the cable is connected. After this happens, the Canon installer may sometimes be unable to complete the setup correctly.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Disconnect the USB cable.<\/li>\n<li>Remove Canon TS9500 series from <strong>Printers &amp; scanners<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Uninstall Canon TS9500 series MP Drivers through <strong>Programs and Features<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Restart the computer.<\/li>\n<li>Do not connect the USB cable after Windows starts.<\/li>\n<li>Run the Canon installer as an administrator.<\/li>\n<li>Select a USB connection.<\/li>\n<li>Connect the cable only after the installer displays a message.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>If \u201cDevice Descriptor Request Failed\u201d Appears<\/h2>\n<p>This error means that Windows could not retrieve basic information from the connected USB device.<\/p>\n<p>Perform the following steps in order:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Turn off the printer.<\/li>\n<li>Disconnect the USB cable.<\/li>\n<li>Remove the unknown device in Device Manager.<\/li>\n<li>Restart the computer.<\/li>\n<li>Try another USB port.<\/li>\n<li>Try another cable.<\/li>\n<li>Connect the printer directly to the computer.<\/li>\n<li>Test the device on another computer.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If the error appears on several computers with several known working cables, the printer\u2019s USB port or electronic board may be faulty.<\/p>\n<h2>If the Printer Disconnects Periodically<\/h2>\n<p>Check the following possible causes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the USB plug is not inserted securely;<\/li>\n<li>the cable is damaged;<\/li>\n<li>a long cable or extension cable is being used;<\/li>\n<li>the printer is connected through a USB hub;<\/li>\n<li>Windows turns off the USB port to save power;<\/li>\n<li>the computer\u2019s USB port is faulty;<\/li>\n<li>other high-power USB devices are overloading the hub.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For testing, leave only the keyboard, mouse, and printer connected.<\/p>\n<h2>Windows 11 ARM Laptops<\/h2>\n<div style=\"background-color: #fffbf0; border-left: 5px solid #ff9800; padding: 20px; margin: 25px 0; border-radius: 4px; box-shadow: 0 1px 3px rgba(0,0,0,0.05);\">\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0;\"><strong>Important information for computers with Snapdragon processors<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The MP Drivers Ver. 1.06 package does not contain a separate ARM64 driver. Windows may detect the connected USB device, but the Canon installer may be unable to complete the driver installation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0;\">If the USB device appears in Device Manager without a hardware error, but MP Drivers cannot be installed on Windows 11 ARM, repeatedly replacing the cable will usually not help.
