In other cases, text prints correctly, but black areas in photos have an incorrect tint.<\/p>\n<p>This guide applies to the following models:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Canon PIXMA TS9540;<\/li>\n<li>Canon PIXMA TS9540A;<\/li>\n<li>Canon PIXMA TS9541C;<\/li>\n<li>Canon PIXMA TS9550;<\/li>\n<li>Canon PIXMA TS9550A;<\/li>\n<li>Canon PIXMA TS9551C;<\/li>\n<li>Canon PIXMA TS9551CA.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All the models listed above belong to the Canon TS9500 series and use the same procedures for checking the nozzles, cleaning the print head, and replacing ink tanks.<\/p>\n<div style=\"background-color: #fffbf0; border-left: 5px solid #ff9800; padding: 20px; margin: 25px 0; border-radius: 4px; box-shadow: 0 1px 3px rgba(0,0,0,0.05);\">\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0;\"><strong>Do not perform many cleaning cycles in succession<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Standard cleaning and deep cleaning consume ink. First, print a nozzle check pattern. Standard cleaning can be performed twice. If that does not help, perform one deep cleaning.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0;\">Do not rinse the print head with water, alcohol, or cleaning fluid. Do not wipe the ink tank ports.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Why the Printer Has Two Black Ink Tanks<\/h2>\n<p>The printer uses two types of black ink:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>PGBK<\/strong> \u2014 pigment black ink, normally used for printing text on plain paper;<\/li>\n<li><strong>BK<\/strong> \u2014 dye-based black ink, normally used for printing photos and images.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The printer automatically selects the appropriate black ink according to the paper type and driver settings. The user cannot manually substitute BK ink for PGBK ink.<\/p>\n<p>This means that different situations are possible:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>photos print normally, but text is almost completely missing \u2014 check the PGBK ink tank and the corresponding nozzles;<\/li>\n<li>text prints normally, but dark areas are missing from photos \u2014 check the BK ink tank;<\/li>\n<li>both text and photos print incorrectly \u2014 inspect the entire nozzle check pattern.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Method 1: Check the Ink Levels<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Turn on the printer.<\/li>\n<li>Wait for the <strong>HOME<\/strong> screen to appear.<\/li>\n<li>Select the <strong>Setup<\/strong> icon.<\/li>\n<li>Open the ink information section.<\/li>\n<li>Check the status of all ink tanks.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If the printer reports that an ink tank is empty, replace it. Cleaning the print head will not help if the ink tank is empty.<\/p>\n<p>If an ink level is shown as low, you can print a nozzle check pattern first. Do not leave the printer without ink tanks for an extended period.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Method 3: Print a Nozzle Check Pattern<\/h2>\n<p>The pattern shows which nozzles are not working correctly. Print it before cleaning and after each cleaning procedure.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 1: Load Paper<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Take one sheet of A4 or Letter-sized plain white paper.<\/li>\n<li>Pull out the cassette at the bottom of the printer.<\/li>\n<li>Load the paper in the cassette.<\/li>\n<li>Insert the cassette back into the printer.<\/li>\n<li>If the paper settings confirmation screen appears, select A4 or Letter.<\/li>\n<li>For the paper type, select <strong>Plain paper<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Open the operation panel.<\/li>\n<li>Pull out the paper output tray.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>To print the pattern, the paper must be loaded in the cassette. If paper is loaded only in the rear tray, the pattern may not print.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 2: Start the Nozzle Check<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>On the <strong>HOME<\/strong> screen, select <strong>Setup<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>Maintenance<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>Print nozzle check pattern<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>On the confirmation screen, select <strong>Yes<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Wait for the pattern to print.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Do not turn off the printer or open the cover while the pattern is being printed.<\/p>\n<h2>How to Evaluate the Nozzle Check Pattern<\/h2>\n<p>Inspect the printed black and color sections.<\/p>\n<p>Cleaning is not required if:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>there are no missing lines in the black grid;<\/li>\n<li>there are no horizontal white streaks in the color bands;<\/li>\n<li>all colors are printed;<\/li>\n<li>all sections have an even density.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Cleaning is required if:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>individual lines are missing from the black grid;<\/li>\n<li>part of the black grid did not print;<\/li>\n<li>horizontal white streaks are visible in the color sections;<\/li>\n<li>one of the colors is missing;<\/li>\n<li>the black section is printed very faintly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If the pattern prints correctly but a specific document prints poorly, the problem is probably related to the application or driver settings. Go to the <strong>If the Nozzle Check Pattern Is Normal<\/strong> section.<\/p>\n<h2>Method 4: Perform Standard Print Head Cleaning<\/h2>\n<p>Perform cleaning only if the nozzle check pattern contains missing sections or white streaks.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Make sure the printer is turned on.<\/li>\n<li>Load one sheet of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper in the cassette.<\/li>\n<li>Open the operation panel.<\/li>\n<li>Pull out the paper output tray.<\/li>\n<li>On the <strong>HOME<\/strong> screen, select <strong>Setup<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>Maintenance<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>Cleaning<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>On the confirmation screen, select <strong>Yes<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Wait for cleaning to finish.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Standard cleaning takes approximately one minute. Do not perform any other operations on the printer.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"11\">\n<li>When prompted to print a nozzle check pattern, select <strong>Yes<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Wait for the pattern to print.<\/li>\n<li>When the completion message appears, select <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Evaluate the result.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>If Deep Cleaning Did Not Help<\/h2>\n<p>Do not perform several deep cleaning cycles in succession.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Turn off the printer using the power button.<\/li>\n<li>Do not remove the ink tanks.<\/li>\n<li>Wait 24 hours.<\/li>\n<li>Turn on the printer.<\/li>\n<li>Print a nozzle check pattern.<\/li>\n<li>If gaps remain, perform deep cleaning one more time.<\/li>\n<li>Print another pattern.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If there is no improvement after the second deep cleaning performed 24 hours later, check the ink tank and contact a service center.<\/p>\n<h2>Method 6: Replace the Black Ink Tank<\/h2>\n<p>It is recommended that you replace the ink tank if:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the printer reports that the ink has run out;<\/li>\n<li>the ink tank was left outside the printer for a long time;<\/li>\n<li>black ink did not appear after cleaning;<\/li>\n<li>the ink tank is installed correctly, but its lamp is not lit;<\/li>\n<li>an old or damaged ink tank is being used;<\/li>\n<li>protective tape was left over the air hole;<\/li>\n<li>the problem appeared immediately after a compatible ink tank was installed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>How to Replace an Ink Tank<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Turn on the printer.<\/li>\n<li>Open the scanning unit \/ cover.<\/li>\n<li>Wait until the print head holder stops completely.<\/li>\n<li>Press the tab on the empty or faulty ink tank.<\/li>\n<li>Lift the ink tank and remove it.<\/li>\n<li>Unpack the new ink tank.<\/li>\n<li>Remove the orange tape and protective film completely.<\/li>\n<li>Remove the protective cap.<\/li>\n<li>Do not touch the contacts or ink outlet.<\/li>\n<li>Install the ink tank in the slot with the matching label.<\/li>\n<li>Press down on it until it clicks into place.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure the ink lamp lights up.<\/li>\n<li>Close the scanning unit \/ cover.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>After replacement, print a nozzle check pattern. If gaps remain, perform one standard cleaning cycle.<\/p>\n<h2>If the Nozzle Check Pattern Is Normal but Text Prints Faintly<\/h2>\n<p>If the nozzle check pattern looks correct, the print head and ink supply are probably working properly. If lines are missing from the pattern, perform cleaning first.<\/p>\n<h2>What You Should Not Do<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>do not perform standard cleaning many times in succession;<\/li>\n<li>do not perform several deep cleaning cycles in succession;<\/li>\n<li>do not rinse the print head under running water;<\/li>\n<li>do not use alcohol, paint thinner, or household cleaning fluid;<\/li>\n<li>do not wipe the ink tank ports with a tissue;<\/li>\n<li>do not puncture the ink tank with a needle;<\/li>\n<li>do not move the print head holder by hand;<\/li>\n<li>do not remove all the ink tanks at the same time;<\/li>\n<li>do not continue cleaning when the ink tanks are almost empty.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>When to Contact a Service Center<\/h2>\n<p>Contact a service center if:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>black ink is still missing after the ink tank has been replaced;<\/li>\n<li>two standard cleaning cycles did not help;<\/li>\n<li>deep cleaning did not help;<\/li>\n<li>a second deep cleaning after 24 hours did not help;<\/li>\n<li>the same section is always missing from the nozzle check pattern;<\/li>\n<li>the printer was not used for a long time and the nozzles have dried severely;<\/li>\n<li>ink is leaking inside the printer;<\/li>\n<li>the ink tank does not lock into place or its lamp does not light up;<\/li>\n<li>the printer makes unusual noises.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If the nozzle check pattern remains incorrect after all the official procedures have been completed, the print head is probably severely clogged, worn, or damaged.
