Sometimes sheets begin feeding at an angle, two sheets are picked up at once, documents stop inside the feeder, or the printer does not detect them.<\/p>\n<p>This guide applies to the following models:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Canon PIXMA TS9540;<\/li>\n<li>Canon PIXMA TS9540A;<\/li>\n<li>Canon PIXMA TS9541C;<\/li>\n<li>Canon PIXMA TS9550;<\/li>\n<li>Canon PIXMA TS9550A;<\/li>\n<li>Canon PIXMA TS9551C;<\/li>\n<li>Canon PIXMA TS9551CA.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All the models listed above belong to the Canon TS9500 series and use the same ADF design.<\/p>\n<div style=\"background-color: #fffbf0; border-left: 5px solid #ff9800; padding: 20px; margin: 25px 0; border-radius: 4px; box-shadow: 0 1px 3px rgba(0,0,0,0.05);\">\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0;\"><strong>First, check where the document becomes skewed<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Make one copy through the ADF without using the computer. If the copy is also skewed, the problem is related to paper feeding or the ADF mechanism.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0;\">If the copy is straight but the image is distorted only when scanning from the computer, check the IJ Scan Utility settings.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Which Documents Can Be Loaded in the ADF<\/h2>\n<p>The ADF is intended for standard paper documents of the same size, thickness, and weight.<\/p>\n<p>Supported sizes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A4;<\/li>\n<li>Letter;<\/li>\n<li>Legal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Recommended paper weight:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"background: #f4f4f4; border: 1px solid #ddd; padding: 12px; white-space: pre-wrap; overflow-x: auto;\">60 to 95 g\/m\u00b2<\/pre>\n<p>Maximum number of sheets:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A4 or Letter \u2014 up to 20 sheets of 75 g\/m\u00b2 plain paper;<\/li>\n<li>Legal \u2014 up to 5 sheets of 75 g\/m\u00b2 plain paper.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If the sheets are old, curled, or feeding inconsistently, load fewer sheets. For testing, start with one sheet.<\/p>\n<h2>Which Documents Must Not Be Loaded in the ADF<\/h2>\n<p>Do not load:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>wrinkled or heavily folded sheets;<\/li>\n<li>curled documents;<\/li>\n<li>torn sheets;<\/li>\n<li>documents with holes near the feeding edge;<\/li>\n<li>sheets stuck together;<\/li>\n<li>documents with sticky notes attached;<\/li>\n<li>sheets with staples or paper clips;<\/li>\n<li>documents with wet glue, ink, or correction fluid;<\/li>\n<li>photos, postcards, or thick cards;<\/li>\n<li>sheets of different sizes or thicknesses in the same stack.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Scan these originals one at a time on the scanner glass.<\/p>\n<h2>Method 1: Load the Documents Correctly<\/h2>\n<p>Incorrect positioning of the document guides is one of the most common causes of skewed feeding.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Remove all documents from the scanner glass.<\/li>\n<li>Open the document tray at the top of the printer.<\/li>\n<li>Slide the left and right document guides fully apart.<\/li>\n<li>Align the edges of the documents on a flat surface.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure all sheets are the same size.<\/li>\n<li>Load the documents <strong>with the side to be scanned facing up<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The first page of the document must be on top.<\/li>\n<li>Insert the stack until it stops, but do not force it.<\/li>\n<li>Slide the document guides against the edges of the documents.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The guides should lightly touch the sheets on both sides.<\/p>\n<div style=\"background-color: #fffbf0; border-left: 5px solid #ff9800; padding: 20px; margin: 25px 0; border-radius: 4px; box-shadow: 0 1px 3px rgba(0,0,0,0.05);\">\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0;\"><strong>Do not press the document guides too tightly<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0;\">If the guides squeeze the paper, the sheets may bend and feed at an angle. If there is too much space between the guides and the paper, the documents may also shift sideways.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Method 2: Test Feeding with One Sheet<\/h2>\n<p>This test helps determine whether the problem is related to the number of documents.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Remove the entire stack from the ADF.<\/li>\n<li>Take one flat sheet of standard A4 plain paper.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure the sheet has no folds or damage.<\/li>\n<li>Load the sheet with the side to be scanned facing up.<\/li>\n<li>Move the document guides against the edges of the sheet.<\/li>\n<li>On the printer\u2019s screen, select <strong>Copy<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Tap <strong>Black<\/strong> or <strong>Color<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If one sheet feeds straight but a stack feeds at an angle:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>reduce the number of documents;<\/li>\n<li>align the edges of the stack again;<\/li>\n<li>do not mix paper of different weights;<\/li>\n<li>check whether any sheets are stuck together;<\/li>\n<li>try loading 5\u201310 pages at a time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If even one new A4 sheet feeds at an angle, check the feeding mechanism and the condition of the rollers.<\/p>\n<h2>Method 3: Check the Paper<\/h2>\n<p>Even slight deformation of a sheet can cause skewed feeding.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Place the document on a flat surface.<\/li>\n<li>Check all four corners.<\/li>\n<li>If an edge is bent, carefully flatten it.<\/li>\n<li>Check whether the sheet curls into a tube shape.<\/li>\n<li>Try scanning a new sheet of standard office paper.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If the new sheet feeds normally, the problem is caused by the condition of the originals rather than the ADF.<\/p>\n<h2>Method 4: Remove Paper Dust and Debris<\/h2>\n<p>Paper dust and small scraps of paper can prevent the rollers from picking up sheets correctly.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Turn off the printer using the power button.<\/li>\n<li>Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet.<\/li>\n<li>Remove all documents from the ADF.<\/li>\n<li>Open the document feeder cover.<\/li>\n<li>Inspect the paper path.<\/li>\n<li>Remove any visible scraps of paper, dust, or other foreign objects.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Do not use sharp metal objects. Do not pull or turn the rollers with force.<\/p>\n<h3>Cleaning the Accessible Rollers<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Prepare a soft, lint-free cloth.<\/li>\n<li>Lightly dampen the cloth with clean water.<\/li>\n<li>Wring the cloth out thoroughly. Water must not drip from it.<\/li>\n<li>Carefully wipe the accessible roller surfaces.<\/li>\n<li>Wipe the internal plastic guides.<\/li>\n<li>Leave the cover open until the surfaces are completely dry.<\/li>\n<li>Close the document feeder cover.<\/li>\n<li>Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Do not spray liquid inside the ADF. Do not use alcohol, acetone, paint thinner, or household cleaning products.<\/p>\n<h2>Method 5: Check the Document Feeder Cover<\/h2>\n<p>If the cover is not closed securely, the rollers may press against the paper unevenly.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Turn off the printer.<\/li>\n<li>Open the document feeder cover.<\/li>\n<li>Check for paper or foreign objects inside.<\/li>\n<li>Slowly close the cover.<\/li>\n<li>Press it gently to make sure it locks completely.<\/li>\n<li>Turn on the printer.<\/li>\n<li>Test feeding with one sheet.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Method 6: Check the IJ Scan Utility Settings<\/h2>\n<p>Follow this section if the documents physically feed straight but the scanned image is tilted.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open the <strong>Start<\/strong> menu.<\/li>\n<li>Find and start <strong>IJ Scan Utility<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>On the left side of the window, select <strong>Document Scan<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>For <strong>Select Source<\/strong>, select:\n<pre style=\"background: #f4f4f4; border: 1px solid #ddd; padding: 12px; white-space: pre-wrap; overflow-x: auto;\">Document (ADF Simplex)<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Check the document orientation setting.<\/li>\n<li>If necessary, enable correction for tilted text or documents.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Load one sheet in the ADF.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Document<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Skew correction can straighten a slightly tilted image. It cannot correct mechanical skewing while the paper is being fed.<\/p>\n<h2>How to Determine Whether the Problem Is Mechanical<\/h2>\n<p>Perform two tests.<\/p>\n<h3>Test 1: Copying Through the ADF<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Load one sheet with straight horizontal lines.<\/li>\n<li>On the printer\u2019s screen, select <strong>Copy<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Make a copy.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Test 2: Scanning from the Scanner Glass<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Place the same document face down on the scanner glass.<\/li>\n<li>Align it with the alignment mark.<\/li>\n<li>In IJ Scan Utility, click <strong>Document<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Compare the results:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the image is skewed through the ADF but straight from the glass \u2014 the problem is in the ADF mechanism;<\/li>\n<li>the ADF copy is straight, but the computer saves a tilted image \u2014 check the application settings;<\/li>\n<li>the image is tilted both through the ADF and from the glass \u2014 check the original\u2019s position and the image-processing settings;<\/li>\n<li>the sheet visibly moves sideways while feeding \u2014 a roller may be worn or damaged.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Support Code 2801: Document Is Jammed in the ADF<\/h2>\n<p>Support code <strong>2801<\/strong> means that a document is jammed in the automatic document feeder.<\/p>\n<div style=\"background-color: #fffbf0; border-left: 5px solid #ff9800; padding: 20px; margin: 25px 0; border-radius: 4px; box-shadow: 0 1px 3px rgba(0,0,0,0.05);\">\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0;\"><strong>Do not open the document cover<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0;\">When a document is jammed, open the document feeder cover at the top of the ADF. If you open the entire document cover, the jammed sheet may tear.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h3>If the Document Is Jammed Inside the ADF<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Tap <strong>Stop<\/strong> on the touchscreen.<\/li>\n<li>Turn off the printer using the power button.<\/li>\n<li>If several sheets are loaded, remove all loose pages.<\/li>\n<li>Leave only the jammed document in place.<\/li>\n<li>Open the document feeder cover.<\/li>\n<li>Hold the visible edge of the document with both hands.<\/li>\n<li>Slowly remove the sheet without tearing it.<\/li>\n<li>Check that no scraps of paper remain inside.<\/li>\n<li>Close the document feeder cover.<\/li>\n<li>Turn on the printer.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>After clearing the error, start scanning the document again from the first page.<\/p>\n<h3>If the Document Is Jammed Near the Output Slot<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Tap <strong>Stop<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Turn off the printer.<\/li>\n<li>Close the document tray.<\/li>\n<li>Slowly open the document feeder cover.<\/li>\n<li>Carefully remove the document from the output side.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure no scraps of paper remain inside.<\/li>\n<li>Close the document feeder cover.<\/li>\n<li>Turn on the printer.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If the sheet does not move, do not pull it forcefully. Contact a Canon service center.<\/p>\n<h2>What to Do If the Sheet Remains in the ADF After Tapping Stop<\/h2>\n<p>If you tapped <strong>Stop<\/strong> during scanning, a message may appear stating that documents remain in the ADF.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Select <strong>OK<\/strong> on the touchscreen.<\/li>\n<li>Wait while the printer automatically ejects the remaining sheets.<\/li>\n<li>Do not pull the documents while they are being ejected automatically.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Support Code 2802: Document Is Not Loaded<\/h2>\n<p>Support code <strong>2802<\/strong> means that the printer is waiting for a document in the ADF but cannot detect one.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Select <strong>OK<\/strong> on the touchscreen.<\/li>\n<li>Remove the document.<\/li>\n<li>Open the ADF document tray.<\/li>\n<li>Slide the document guides apart.<\/li>\n<li>Load the document with the side to be scanned facing up.<\/li>\n<li>Insert the sheet until it stops.<\/li>\n<li>Move the document guides against the edges of the document.<\/li>\n<li>Start scanning or copying again.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If support code 2802 appears when the sheet is loaded correctly:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>make sure the document is inserted far enough;<\/li>\n<li>try a new sheet of standard A4 plain paper;<\/li>\n<li>check that the document feeder cover is fully closed;<\/li>\n<li>remove paper dust from the accessible rollers and sensors;<\/li>\n<li>restart the printer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Support Code 2803: Document Is Too Long or Jammed<\/h2>\n<p>Support code <strong>2803<\/strong> appears if the document is too long or stops while feeding.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Select <strong>OK<\/strong> on the touchscreen.<\/li>\n<li>If the document is jammed, tap <strong>Stop<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Turn off the printer.<\/li>\n<li>Open the document feeder cover.<\/li>\n<li>Carefully remove the sheet.<\/li>\n<li>Close the cover.<\/li>\n<li>Turn on the printer.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Before scanning again, check the document size. The ADF is designed for A4, Letter, and Legal sheets.<\/p>\n<h2>If the ADF Picks Up Two or More Sheets<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Remove the documents.<\/li>\n<li>Separate any sheets that are stuck together.<\/li>\n<li>Align the edges of the stack.<\/li>\n<li>Reduce the number of pages.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure all paper has the same weight.<\/li>\n<li>Load the documents again.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>High or low humidity can cause sheets to stick together or feed poorly. In this case, load approximately half the maximum number of sheets.<\/p>\n<h2>If the Document Stops After Feeding a Few Centimeters<\/h2>\n<p>Possible causes include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the document feeder cover is not closed securely;<\/li>\n<li>paper dust is present on a roller;<\/li>\n<li>the sheet is too thick or curled;<\/li>\n<li>a small scrap of paper is inside the feeder;<\/li>\n<li>one of the rollers is not turning correctly;<\/li>\n<li>the document sensor is damaged.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Test the feeder with one new A4 sheet. If the new sheet also stops in the same place, a mechanical fault is likely.<\/p>\n<h2>If Scans from the ADF Have a Line<\/h2>\n<p>A vertical line on every page is usually caused by dirt on the narrow strip of glass used to scan documents moving through the ADF.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Turn off the printer.<\/li>\n<li>Unplug the power cord.<\/li>\n<li>Open the document cover.<\/li>\n<li>Find the narrow glass strip next to the main scanner glass.<\/li>\n<li>Wipe it with a soft, lint-free cloth.<\/li>\n<li>If the dirt cannot be removed, lightly dampen the cloth with water and wring it out thoroughly.<\/li>\n<li>Wipe the glass dry.<\/li>\n<li>Close the cover.<\/li>\n<li>Reconnect the power and test scanning.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Even a small speck on the narrow glass strip can appear as a long line on every scanned page.<\/p>\n<h2>When to Contact a Service Center<\/h2>\n<p>Contact a service center if:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>one edge of the sheet consistently moves faster than the other;<\/li>\n<li>a new A4 sheet always feeds with severe skewing;<\/li>\n<li>a roller does not turn or makes an unusual noise;<\/li>\n<li>documents repeatedly jam in the same place;<\/li>\n<li>support code 2801 or 2803 appears after the jam has been cleared;<\/li>\n<li>the printer does not detect a correctly loaded sheet;<\/li>\n<li>the document feeder cover does not close or lock;<\/li>\n<li>a scrap of paper remains inside and cannot be removed safely.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If copying through the ADF is also skewed, reinstalling the driver will not help. In this case, the problem is not related to Windows or IJ Scan Utility.<\/p>\n<h2>Temporary Solution<\/h2>\n<p>Until the printer is repaired, scan documents one at a time on the scanner glass.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open the document cover.<\/li>\n<li>Place the document with the side to be scanned facing down.<\/li>\n<li>Align the upper corner with the alignment mark.<\/li>\n<li>Close the cover.<\/li>\n<li>Start IJ Scan Utility.<\/li>\n<li>For the source, select <strong>Platen<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Document<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Scanning from the glass takes longer but avoids paper jams and skewed feeding.<\/p>\n<h2>Quick Check Before Using the ADF<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>There are no other originals on the scanner glass.<\/li>\n<li>All documents are the same size.<\/li>\n<li>There are no paper clips, staples, or sticky notes on the sheets.<\/li>\n<li>Ink, glue, and correction fluid are completely dry.<\/li>\n<li>The sheets are not wrinkled or curled.<\/li>\n<li>The documents are loaded with the side to be scanned facing up.<\/li>\n<li>The first page is on top.<\/li>\n<li>The document guides lightly touch the edges of the paper.<\/li>\n<li>The number of sheets does not exceed the supported limit.<\/li>\n<li>The document feeder cover is fully closed.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The automatic document feeder, referred to as the ADF in Canon documentation, allows you to scan or copy several sheets in succession.
