In most cases, the cause is that the wrong original size is set for feeder scanning, or the document orientation is selected incorrectly.<\/p>\n<h2>How the problem appears<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>when scanning through the feeder, the image looks enlarged;<\/li>\n<li>the left, right, top, or bottom edge of the document is cropped;<\/li>\n<li>if you scan the same sheet from the platen glass, the result is normal;<\/li>\n<li>changing the resolution, color mode, or file format does not help.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Why this happens<\/h2>\n<p>For feeder scanning, it is important that the software or the multifunction printer correctly recognizes the original size. The main idea is simple: for A4, it is safer to set A4 explicitly instead of assuming the software will always detect the size correctly.<\/p>\n<h2>If you start scanning from the multifunction printer control panel<\/h2>\n<p>If the document is scanned to a computer from the machine control panel, it is important to understand that the save settings and some scan settings are still taken from <strong>MF Scan Utility<\/strong>. So if feeder scanning crops the edges, the settings must usually be corrected in the <strong>MF Scan Utility<\/strong> profile, not only on the multifunction printer screen.<\/p>\n<p>On the control panel itself, make sure that a normal document scan is selected and that the sheet is loaded straight. But if the scan is being saved to a computer, the main check still needs to be done in the PC software.<\/p>\n<h2>How to check the settings in ScanGear MF<\/h2>\n<p>If you scan through <strong>ScanGear MF<\/strong> or want to review the advanced settings, do the following:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open <strong>MF Scan Utility<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select the machine in <strong>[Scanner]<\/strong> or <strong>[Product Name]<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>[ScanGear]<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>In the <strong>ScanGear MF<\/strong> window, open the <strong>[Advanced Mode]<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n<li>In <strong>[Input Settings]<\/strong>, check:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>[Input Size]<\/strong> \u2014 it must match the real original size, usually A4;<\/li>\n<li><strong>[Orientation]<\/strong> \u2014 it must match the position of the document.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>If you use a non-standard sheet, enter the correct size manually.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>[Scan]<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>In ScanGear MF, it is especially important not to leave the wrong original size selected. If the wrong format is selected there, the result will also be wrong.<\/p>\n<h2>What to check in the feeder itself<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Load documents of <strong>one size only<\/strong> in the feeder. Do not mix A4 with sheets of other sizes in one stack.<\/li>\n<li>The sheet should not have heavy bends, folds, or waves.<\/li>\n<li>The guides must be adjusted exactly to the width of the sheet.<\/li>\n<li>Do not load too large a stack of documents.<\/li>\n<li>If the machine is new, but documents still feed crookedly from the first day, test the feeder again with one clean A4 sheet.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>When the problem is probably no longer in the settings<\/h2>\n<p>If all the conditions below are true, but feeder scans are still enlarged and cropped, the problem may no longer be software-related:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>you are scanning one normal A4 sheet;<\/li>\n<li>the guides are adjusted correctly;<\/li>\n<li><strong>A4<\/strong> is set in <strong>MF Scan Utility<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li>the correct original size is also set in <strong>ScanGear MF<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li>the same document scans normally from the platen glass.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In that situation, it makes sense to contact warranty support or service. If everything is normal from the platen glass, but the problem appears only in the feeder, the ADF assembly itself should be checked.<\/p>\n<h2>Brief conclusion<\/h2>\n<p>For the Canon MF461dw, MF463dw, and MF465dw, this problem is usually caused by the original size being set incorrectly for feeder scanning or by the wrong document orientation being selected.
