In most cases, the problem is related to the shared folder setup, destination settings, the user name, the password, or folder access permissions in Windows.<\/p>\n<h2>How the problem usually appears<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>the multifunction printer starts scanning, but the file does not appear in the shared folder;<\/li>\n<li>error <strong>#801<\/strong> or <strong>#806<\/strong> appears on the control panel;<\/li>\n<li>scanning to a computer through <strong>MF Scan Utility<\/strong> works, but scanning to a shared folder does not;<\/li>\n<li>the problem appeared immediately after the first setup or after the Windows password was changed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Why this happens<\/h2>\n<p>For this Canon product line, scanning to a shared folder works through <strong>SMB<\/strong>. Open [Store to Shared Folder Settings] and fill in the fields carefully<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>After entering the tool, click <strong>[Start]<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Open <strong>[Store to Shared Folder Settings]<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>If necessary, enter the Address Book PIN.<\/li>\n<li>Fill in the fields:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>[Favorites Number]<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>[Name for Favorites Number]<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>[Computer Name of Store Destination]<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>[Shared Folder Name on Store Destination Computer]<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Pay especially close attention to the last two fields. This is where the cause of the error is most often hidden.<\/p>\n<h2>Step 6. If the folder has access restrictions, set [Access Restriction to Shared Folder] correctly<\/h2>\n<p>This is one of the most important steps. If error #806 appears, almost always check the user name and password first<\/h2>\n<p>For error <strong>#806<\/strong>, Canon explicitly states that the user name or password used for saving to the shared folder or FTP server is incorrect.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open the shared-folder destination again through <strong>Send Function Setting Tool<\/strong> or <strong>Remote UI<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Check <strong>[Registered User Name]<\/strong> and <strong>[Password to Access]<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Enter them again carefully, without guessing or shortening anything.<\/li>\n<li>Save the changes and try sending the scan again.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If the Windows password was changed recently, the old password stored in the multifunction printer destination will no longer work.<\/p>\n<h2>Step 10. If your Windows network uses a workgroup, check the SMB settings on the machine<\/h2>\n<p>Canon also states that in some SMB environments, you may need to configure the computer name, the workgroup name, and related SMB client settings.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open <strong>Remote UI<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Go to <strong>[Settings\/Registration]<\/strong> \u2192 <strong>[Network Settings]<\/strong> \u2192 <strong>[Computer Name\/Workgroup Name Settings]<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Check:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>[Computer Name]<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>[Workgroup Name]<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li>if needed, <strong>[Use NetBIOS]<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>If your network really uses Windows workgroups, these settings must be correct.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This step is more often needed in a more complex local network than in a simple home setup.<\/p>\n<h2>Step 12. Remember that shared-folder destinations are registered from a computer, not from the device panel<\/h2>\n<p>This is a common source of confusion. Canon explicitly states that shared folders and FTP servers used as destinations for scanned documents are registered from a computer. So if you are looking for the full destination setup only on the device panel, the required options may simply not be there.<\/p>\n<h2>How to quickly tell where the problem is<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>If error #801 appears<\/strong> \u2014 first check the folder path, the folder name, whether the computer is available, and the password.<\/li>\n<li><strong>If error #806 appears<\/strong> \u2014 almost always check the access user name and password first.<\/li>\n<li><strong>If this is the first setup<\/strong> \u2014 the problem is most often caused by incorrectly filled destination fields.<\/li>\n<li><strong>If everything worked before and then stopped<\/strong> \u2014 first check whether the Windows password or shared folder settings were changed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>When to contact support<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>you already prepared the shared folder according to Canon guidance;<\/li>\n<li>you checked <strong>[Computer Name of Store Destination]<\/strong> and <strong>[Shared Folder Name on Store Destination Computer]<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li>you rechecked <strong>[Registered User Name]<\/strong> and <strong>[Password to Access]<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li>you checked the folder permissions in Windows;<\/li>\n<li>the error still repeats after that.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If scanning to a shared folder still does not work after these checks, it is reasonable to contact Canon support or your network administrator.<\/p>\n<h2>Brief conclusion<\/h2>\n<p>For the Canon MF657Cdw, MF655Cdw, and MF651Cw, problems with scanning to a shared folder are most often caused not by device failure, but by destination setup and access permissions.
