The file name can vary by language (for example, \u201cen\u201d), but the installation steps are the same.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Important tip about HP Smart:<\/strong> on older HP LaserJet models (including P1005), the <strong>HP Smart<\/strong> app may <strong>not detect<\/strong> the printer. This is normal. Do not mix the steps.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>If you install using the EXE (Method 1):<\/strong> do <u>not<\/u> connect the printer to USB in advance. Connect it <strong>only when the installer asks<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>If you install using the INF (Method 2):<\/strong> you can connect the printer earlier. If Windows shows \u201cFound new hardware\u201d, click \u201cCancel\u201d and continue with the steps below.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>General tips (for both methods):<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>When it is time to connect USB, connect the printer <strong>directly<\/strong> to a USB port on the computer (no USB hub and no long USB extension cable).<\/li>\n<li>If the printer is not detected, try a different USB port and a different USB cable.<\/li>\n<li>If you already tried to install the driver and it did not work, remove old entries first (see below).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How to remove old entries:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Windows 11:<\/strong> Settings \u2192 Bluetooth &amp; devices \u2192 Printers &amp; scanners \u2192 remove <strong>HP LaserJet P1005<\/strong> (and similar P100x\/P150x entries if they appear) \u2192 restart the PC.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Windows 10:<\/strong> Settings \u2192 Devices \u2192 Printers &amp; scanners \u2192 remove <strong>HP LaserJet P1005<\/strong> (and similar P100x\/P150x entries if they appear) \u2192 restart the PC.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>If you see duplicate printers<\/strong> (for example <strong>HP LaserJet P1005_1<\/strong>, <strong>P1005_2<\/strong>), remove them too before reinstalling.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"method1\">Method 1 (recommended). Install using the EXE<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Disconnect<\/strong> the printer from USB (if it is connected).<\/li>\n<li>Run the driver <strong>EXE<\/strong> (best: right-click \u2192 <strong>Run as administrator<\/strong>).<\/li>\n<li>Accept the license agreement and continue.<\/li>\n<li>When the installer asks, connect the printer to a USB port on the computer (no USB hub) and turn the printer on.<\/li>\n<li>Wait until the installation finishes.<\/li>\n<li>Open <strong>Settings \u2192 Printers &amp; scanners<\/strong> and print a <strong>test page<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If everything installed and printing works, you are done.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"method2\">Method 2 (universal). Install using the INF (\u201cHave Disk\u201d)<\/h2>\n<p>Use this method if the EXE installation fails, the installer closes by itself, or the printer is installed but does not print.<\/p>\n<p>Inside the driver folder there is an <strong>INF<\/strong> file (example: <strong>HPLJP1005.INF<\/strong>). You need it if the EXE installer does not work.<\/p>\n<h3>2.1. It is the same file (Windows may hide \u201c.INF\u201d).<\/p>\n<h3>2.2. Install the driver using the INF<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Connect the printer via USB. If you see a port like <strong>COM<\/strong> or <strong>Serial Port<\/strong>, it is usually the wrong choice for a USB printer.<\/p>\n<h3>Problem 4. The printer appears under \u201cOther devices\u201d in Device Manager<\/h3>\n<p>If the printer shows up in Device Manager under \u201cOther devices\u201d (or as \u201cUnknown device\u201d), the driver is not properly assigned.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fix:<\/strong> install the driver using <strong>Method 2 (INF)<\/strong> and make sure the port is <strong>USB001<\/strong> (or USB00x).<\/p>\n<h3>Problem 5. Windows says \u201cA driver can\u2019t load on this device\u201d (more common on Windows 11)<\/h3>\n<p>Sometimes Windows blocks the driver because of security settings. Do this temporarily and only if you cannot install the driver otherwise.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open: <strong>Windows Security \u2192 Device security \u2192 Core isolation<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Temporarily turn off <strong>Memory integrity<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Restart the PC.<\/li>\n<li>Install the driver again (best via INF).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Problem 6.
