In that case, a manual installation via an INF file (built-in Windows method) usually helps.

Step 1. Extract the EXE contents (the EXE can be unpacked like an archive)

The easiest way is to use the free archiver 7-Zip (or WinRAR):

Install 7-Zip (if you don’t have it).

Right-click Xerox_Phaser_3010_installer.exe.

Select 7-Zip → Extract to “Xerox_Phaser_3010_installer\\” (or “Extract to…”).

After extraction, you’ll get a folder with the driver files.

Step 2. Find the driver INF file

Inside the extracted folder, the typical paths look like this:

For 64-bit (x64):

...\\Xerox_Phaser_3010_installer\\Drivers\\HB\\Win_87VistaXP\\x64\\English\\xrhr1a64.inf

For 32-bit (x86):

...\\Xerox_Phaser_3010_installer\\Drivers\\HB\\Win_87VistaXP\\x32\\English\\xrhr1a.inf

Step 3. Install the driver using “Have Disk…”

Windows 11 / 10 / 8 / 8.1:

Open Start → type Control Panel → open it.

Go to Devices and Printers.

Click Add a printer.

If the printer isn’t found, choose The printer that I want isn’t listed.

Select Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings.

At the driver selection step, click Have Disk….

Click Browse and point to the INF file (
xrhr1a64.inf
for x64 or
xrhr1a.inf
for x86).

Select Xerox Phaser 3010 → click Next and finish the installation.

Windows 7:

Click Start → Devices and Printers.

Click Add a printer.

Select Add a local printer.

At the driver selection step, click Have Disk….

Select the INF file (
xrhr1a64.inf
for x64 or
xrhr1a.inf
for x86).

Finish the installation and print a Test Page.

5) Important for Windows 11: Windows protected print mode

Windows 11 includes Windows protected print mode. If it’s enabled, installing some printers that require third-party drivers may be blocked. In that case, turn the mode off and try again (ideally using the manual INF method).

Microsoft documentation (English):

Windows protected print mode (Microsoft Learn)

6) Quick note on Windows Vista and Windows XP

These systems are rare today. If you use Vista/XP, the same approach usually works: extract the driver from the EXE and install via Have Disk… (INF). If installation still fails, it’s typically due to the limitations of the older OS (missing components, required updates, etc.).

7) If the printer still won’t print after installation: quick checklist

Connect the printer directly to a USB port on the PC (no USB hub) and make sure it’s powered on.

Reinstall the printer: remove it from the device list, restart your PC, and install again (preferably via INF).

Make sure you installed the correct driver for your system type: x64 for 64-bit, x86 for 32-bit.

On Windows 11, check Windows protected print mode (see section 5).

FacebookTwitterLinkedInPinterest

This guide uses the official driver installer Xerox_Phaser_3010_installer.exe, which is available on the Xerox website.
